EDDIE

'Holy shit!'

The moment Laura stepped out of the alleyway and rising to an extensive height with her impressive biomass suit, I was left in awe. The symbiote had managed to react just as womanly to suit her, slender and tall with talons that were livelier than mine. She let out an earsplitting shriek while bounding over the feelers of the alien creature, striking a claw at every snap of its spike-like antennae that came her way. There was small talk that ensued between Spiderman and Sin, her womanly yet deep voice that was commanding and focused.

I was already on my way to the nearest car, crouching behind it and eyeing the nearby onlookers who had gathered out their homes and heading for their vehicles to stay out of the Xenophage's attack. I was quick to assist some out of their worry, helping them out of their homes and out of the fight's way.

'Beck!'

'Eddie? What - '

'Get down to twenty-three cross eight asap,' I ordered into the line while tending to an elderly woman into her neighbor's car. 'Laura said she needs you. There's this thing - '

'I'm on my way. Keep in touch.'

The line went silent. A thwack of the Xenophage's feelers went down near the road of the car as it revved out the parking, my feet sprinting on instinct to push the car out of the way. But I couldn't since my powers were on a shutdown. I watched helplessly as the car's hood was smashed through and the vehicle sauntering past the rest with a smashed barrier. At least no one was hurt.

'Miss Sharp, this thing's exterior is like steel! I can't get through!'

'Not to us,' she growled out, her claw-ridden hands flicking on either side while keeping her balance over the length of the long feeler traps. With a swish, she wielded long and amorphous blades that resembled katanas which she pierced through the feelers, just enough to slice through the wooden bones-structure.

'Badass,' I heard Peter hoot as he swung a kick from his web-slings and right into the disfigured face of the organism. It whizzed, hissing out painfully and retreating to face the slinging hero with another one of its claws snapping which Peter missed Peter by an inch. Just when I thought the Xenophage was no match to a single synthetic symbiote and a spangly spider, a loud thud crashed behind me into a nearby wall. A loud groan ensued from the darkness, rolling out of the side with a hand over its side.

'Oh c'mon, Scream!'

'Beck?' I called out, running to help her up on her feet. She had a long cut that ran down her temples, not healing as quick as she should. She was limping lightly as she grappled my hand and let out a sigh. She must've broken herself while landing down on the ground but phased while doing so.

'I can't feel her. My symbiote.'

'I know,' I counseled, sympathizing. 'It's that thing out there. It cuts down from our symbiote to find us.'

'I promised I'd help Sharp,' she mumbled, shoving herself out of my grasp and limping onto the roadway while cradling her broken arm. She looked up to the sky, watching the thing battle the two attackers with shock. Laura had sent her biomass created katanas into the chest part of the Xenophage but it had done nothing but reflect it back. She howled back in irritation, setting course to its head once again.

'I can smell your pheromones from here, Eddie. Are you seriously turned on by her, right now?' She asked, her perfect face holding disgust. I sent her sideways look, a little guilty and a little annoyed. I couldn't help it, maybe I had a weird fetish.

'Piss off, Beck.'

'Okay, focus,' she rolled her eyes. 'They don't have a backup.'

'The taskforce is probably on their way,' I added. 'They're already outnumbered.'

'Is there any way to block that thing out of us?'

'As of yet, no,' I answered, clipped. 'We could - '

She interrupted. 'If you say cover our ears, I will pummel you.'

' - try and hinder the frequency it's emitting by battling it out,' I said, sounding a bit smart when it was exactly what she had said.

'So,' she drawled, realizing my statement. 'Block our ears?'

'I didn't say that.'

She groaned and watched the scene unfold once again. A claw snapped onto her waist, a loud screech of pain rattling our ears. The Xenophage had gotten ahold of her, breaking her spine but she was fighting back. As it lifted her, she used her symbiote-mass sword to pierce it into its eye and blinding it for a second.

But, it wasn't letting her go. I acted on instinct, sprinting as fast as could and sliding in front of it and finding a strewn tire of a car to lift off the ground with a grunt and hurl it at one of its swishing feelers. My heart beat faster with fear, knowing my symbiote was nowhere within reach to help me out.

'Hey! Over here, you crabby asshole!'

The Xenophage whirred and keened when it moved, focusing on me. I gulped hard, my legs backing up slowly. Its geometrical face had zoomed in on me, his claws snapping intently and dropping Laura, a loud thwack resonating with her fall. She yelled animalistically, saying something which I couldn't catch and plopping herself off the ground. What I'd devised had worked, but not in my favor.

'Eddie, run!'

And I did. I hit the ground running, the sound of my heart beating loudly echoing in my ears. I pushed myself to the limit, scrambling past the feelers that trampled my way and ducking past some. The Xenophage whirred with a growl, clamping its claws over the rooves of two houses to corner me and hoisting itself in front of me. I skidded to a stop, undergoing a trainwreck principle; not being able to move but stand and face it.

'Mr. Brock, hold on!'

The spiderchamp cast his web substance over the claws, snapping it shut and making it lose balance. It tumbled to the ground, shrieking with the horror and one of its long tentacles straightening past me and snapping the giant knife-like structures around the tip into my midsection. The pain came after, an agonizing yell pealing through the air which I later realized as mine. Being impaled, the feeler ejected out of me, failing to hold me close and bring me to the Xenophage.

'No, no, no! Eddie!'

I forced my eyes to stay open, reaching for a nearby anything to prop myself up. An opened car door was my balance, the pain from my midsection starting to loop me into an unconsciousness. My hands reached for the long gash that had pressed through the muscle but failed to touch my spine, the crimson leaking out in spurts and spilling to the tarmac.

'Who the hell is that - ' I heard Peter screech to nothing, my ears flopping to pick out anymore sounds. It was starting to get duller, my eyesight trying to focus on anything.

A bright flash of yellow zoomed past the street, a figure amidst the light that seemed to be the driver of the brightness. The figure was casting blasts into the center of the organism, somehow weakening its core structure and relapsing it to the cement. The figure that was ablaze started to dull a few meters ahead of me, I made out golden flames of hair that settled upright over her shoulders and yellow, red and blue suit that encased her strong figure and her hands still shooting more of the fiery blasts at the beast. I watched as the creature retracted into a miniature variant and all of a sudden, disappearing into nothingness.

The woman shook her shoulders irritatedly, my gaze deterring when a felt a light caress move my gaze from her to another pair of molten brown eyes. They swum in tears, as she moved her pale lips slowly to make out words.

'Stay with me,' they said. 'C'mon, Ed.'

The last thing I heard was ear-piercing screams which I could still hear in the somber silence when my eyes lost their will to remain held. I felt a soft embrace over my cheek that was lulling me to sleep, my grip on reality lost.

Laura's outlandish outcry rattled ever windows on the street corner, her hands desperately moving to the unmoving man's neck to hold him close to her stomach. She continued to fall apart, muffling more of her screams into the man's shoulder and clutching the wound which she hoped he could heal. Peter watched on as one of the bravest women she knew broke down into uncontrollable sobs, not knowing how to react to calm the storm that brewed in her.

'Why isn't he,' he started hesitantly, 'why isn't he healing?'

'The thing is still around,' the smartly dressed woman responded. 'It's not allowing him to phase.'

Behind them, the task force had started to file in neatly, with helicopters cutting through the tense air above them. The loud and chill wind blew at them ominously, ceasing Laura's heavy weepings. Peter turned his gaze to the unbelieving woman who flanked him, taller and clad in a leather uniform with her head downcast. How much it killed him to ask who she was, he stayed silent till Mr. Stark showed up.

'Phase,' he heard Laura's muted mumble. She lifted her reddened eyes to the other woman, wiping her eyes. 'He needs Venom.'

'Laura, he has no - '

'Stay out of this, Beck,' she sneered savagely and throwing one last glance at the mysterious warrior who chased away the Xenophage. She was still too, knowing well she wasn't in a position to make demands. Laura's height rose suddenly and her body materializing into a suit of white and going in her symbiote form with a growl. Her eyes narrowed into traceable black, her teeth snapping at the leather-clad woman who came close.

Lifting Eddie's body gently into her slender arms, she secured his arms and legs before she took off into the city where the frequencies were most distorted. She leaped past the ruins of the town, past the armed soldiers who had the guns pointed at her and ready to fire. She only brushed them off with a raucous screech and heading straight for the Stark HQ.

'Uh,' Peter had the strength to say to the woman on his side who only started to take steps through the same path Laura had left. 'Should we follow her, Light Lady?'

'It's Carol Danvers,' she corrected with a raise of her brows. She had a commanding voice to her tone. 'And yes, we should. I need to meet Stark.'

Peter widened his eyes underneath the suit. 'You know, Mr. Stark?'

'I know you too, punk,' she said with a quirk of her lips. 'Spiderman, is it? Kinda' old school.'

'Whatever,' Peter shrugged, trying not to get hurt by her words. He folded her arms, spitefully. 'What's your superhero name?'

She pursed her lips, trying to restrain from letting out a sarcastic comment. 'Carol Danvers.'

'Come on.'

'Oh, you mean my alias,' she mused. She winked at the boy before she went binary, her hair glowing and rising to the air like aborn from the flames. Peter was in awe as she blasted through the air, following the woman who left to save her loved one and her fists raised to gather momentum. He heard her hooting voice echo as she shot off horizontally, only leaving a flash of golden behind her.

'Captain Marvel, kiddo,' she yelled through as she left. 'I'll gladly sign for you, later!'
