Chapter 24

It had been 20 minutes since Taehyung and Jungkook had left the apartment. 20 minutes was all they had needed to exchange the busy roads of Seoul for the quiet and calm roads of the outer skirts of the city. Both males had been sitting in their seats in comfortable silence while Taehyung drove the car to where he originally planned on going to alone.

Jungkook was silently watching his surrounding, the big skyscrapers that had been filling up his entire vision the first fifteen minutes of their ride now far behind them. Fields filled with crops and hills covered with flowers and grass were now filling up the space around the car and the brunette liked it a lot. Not often did he go to the outer skirts of the city back when he had been on his own and looking at all of the beautiful views around him he silently cursed himself for that.

Back when he hadn't been part of this team yet the brunette had done nothing but work. He was always busy with getting his name out there and doing small jobs back when his name wasn't a well known one in the underworld and even when he had finally made it to being the best hacker in the underworld he still only ever thought about work. His whole life revolved around money and in order to gain it he had to work for it.

Looking back now Jungkook of course thought he had been crazy. He had given up so much of his life just for money. He had been alive yet he hadn't lived. Years of his life he had wasted while beautiful views like this one were out there waiting for him to be found. Ohh how stupid he had been all those years. The best things aren't able to be bought with money, he should've realised that sooner. He couldv'e enjoyed things like this view far earlier if he hadn't been so blinded by the money.

"Where are we going?" Jungkook decides to ask once they drove up a hill. Neither of the two of them had spoken a word ever since they left the apartment and while Jungkook had enjoyed the silence he couldn't help but let his curiosity break it and ask Taehyung the question he had been keeping in his mind ever since they had left.

"Some place special to me. We're almost there." Taehyung spoke as he sped the car up a little. Jungkook nodded and a small smile broke out on his face. If they were almost there then the place they were going to must look amazing for sure, after all they were only surrounded by amazing places right now and unless there was some weird thing hidden behind that hill that could ruin it Jungkook was sure wherever Taehyung was taking him, he'd definitely like it.

After a mere five minutes of driving Taehyung suddenly started to stop car before parking it right next a field filled with blue and pink flowers. Jungkook's eyes immediately grew big and his mouth fell open. This place looked like it came straight out of a movie and the brunette hadn't even dared to dream of ever looking at anything as beautiful as the sight in front of him.

Both males got out of the car and the only thing Jungkook managed to bring out was a simple "Wow." As he closed the cardoor behind him, his eyes never leaving the view in front of him. Taehyung began to smile upon hearing that word leaving the other's lips. "It's pretty isn't it?" The blonde spoke before he began to walk towards the field of flowers, ushering Jungkook to follow him. The brunette wasted no time and immediately walked with the elder, his eyes as big as saucers while trying to take in the view as much as possible.

As soon as they neared the field a small path that ran through the whole field of flowers revealed itself and both Jungkook and Taehyung took it while taking in the beautiful view now surrounding them completely. "How did you find this place Tae? Its breathtaking." The hacker spoke as he took in every bit of field they passed. Everything looked amazing in his eyes, from the way the flowers were sticking out of the tall grass to the beautiful stone path that was woven through the field. It felt like a place straight out of some kind of fairytail to Jungkook.

"My mother used to take me here when I was little everytime my father left us to go to work." The blonde answered the other, a distant look now covering his features. By the sight of that look on Taehyung's face Jungkook immediately knew that the other's mother would be a touchy subject for him. However it couldn't be too bad of a subject Jungkook figured due to the fact that this place still held a special place in Taehyung's heart. If he had hated the woman he would've detested this place as well right?

"What happened between you and her?" Jungkook decided to ask, his curiosity once again getting the beter of him. The brunette in a way couldn't help it, he just was too curious about literally anything for his own good and besides, it was Taehyung who had brought up his mother. If he really didn't want to talk about her be would've never brought her up, Jungkook reasoned, justifiying his own actions in order to make him feel a bit better about asking Taehyung about something he'd clearly was still having some kind of trouble dealing with.

Taehyung didn't answer at first, his face covered with a for Jungkook unreadable expression. The hacker couldn't help but wonder if he had made the other mad by asking about his mother and slowly an anxious feeling began to creep up to the younger male's chest. He'd hated if he had just ruined everything he had built with Taehyung these past few weeks by asking such a dumb question. Knowing some things about Taehyung the brunette was desperate to find out certainly wasn't worth ruining the relationship they had built together. Jungkook had worked way too hard for it in order for it to all come crashing down again.

"It's complicated." Taehyung finally answered after a pause, a slightly sad yet angry tone lacing his voice. As the two males walked further soon a bench in the middle of the flower field came in sight and Taehyung sped up a little before walking over to it and sitting down while looking at Jungkook, silently inviting the other to sit down next to him.

A deep sigh left the other's mouth and he briefly closed his eyes. "I made a lot of wrong choices in my life Jungkook and they eventually cost me having my mother in my life." The blonde spoke, pain clearly evident in his tone. "She saw the man I was becoming and decided that cutting all ties with me would be the best option for her." The blonde then spoke, looking away with a distant look in his eyes, pain evident in his voice.

To Jungkook it was as clear as crystal how much not having his mother around affected Taehyung. He hadn't ever shown an emotion like the one he was showing right now to Jungkook and the brunette looked at the elder with a compassionate look on his face before deciding that it would be best to comfort him a little. Jungkook leaned back against the bench before moving his hand and letting it rest again on top of Taehyung's and softly squeazing it in a reassuring manner.

The blonde immediately looked up to lock eyes with Jungkook and relaxed a bit when he saw the sweet smile covering Jungkook's features. "She apparently told my father I was becoming everything she hated about humanity. In her eyes I was becoming a monster she'd want nothing to do with." The blonde then spoke, his voice filled with pain. Taehyung casted his gaze down to his feet, the memory of his father's confession about his mother still felt like a stab in his chest everytime he thought about it. Those words were like a wound that never fully healed for Taehyung. From time to time it kept opening itself up and hurt him all over again.

Those words were probably the words that had hurt him the most in his whole life. Hearing a stranger say they didn't like you was one thing but to have your own mother say that about you was a whole different level of pain. Never before had Taehyung felt so worthless and useless as the day his father had told him about what his mother truly thought of him. Never before had Taehyung felt like he had lost everything that was dear to him, until that day.

"At first I was angry at her for saying those words and just leaving me without a text or note but I guess in time I started to understand why she had said it and what she'd meant with them. I was fighting for the wrong cause and my mind had been poisoned with thinking that it was right what I was doing until I finally understood that it in fact wasn't right what I was doing." Taehyung admitted before shaking his head. "Looking back now I of course understand why she left me, if I had met my past self I would've left too."

"You're fighting for what is right now Tae, to me that's the only thing that matters and I'm sure if your mom would take a single look at you now she couldn't be more proud of the man you've eventually become." The brunette spoke, succesfully managing to let a small smile break out on Taehyung's face. "I hope so."

Jungkook smiled back at seeing the other now being more at ease. He hated for Taehyung to feel bad about things that had happened in the past. What matters is what's happening now, not what has happened. There is no point in dwelling about the past when there's nothing you can do to change it. What has happened has happened and we can only learn from those experiences in order to create a better future.

"It's your mother's apartment we use right?" Jungkook then asked, remembering how Taehyung had mentioned something like that the first time they had gone to that apartment. Taehyung slightly nodded as an aswer to that question. "It used to be."

"Why doesn't she use it now?" The brunette then asked, genuinely not understanding why Taehyung's mother would leave such a beautiful apartment behind. Taehyung briefly closed his eyes as he felt the wind softly brush through his hair. The blonde had known that this question would come eventually. The moment he'd said that that apartment was his mother's to Jungkook he knew the other would one day ask about it. Jungkook was too curious to let it go.

In a way Jungkook's curiosity amused the older male. He liked how the brunette could be determent to find something out to the point where he would remember a single thing that had been said for weeks. Once Jungkook had set his mind to something there was no way he'd ever let it go, not without the answers he was looking for.

"After her divorce from my father she used it for a couple of months to stay close to me, seeing as I lived with him." The blonde then spoke as he opened his eyes again and noticed how Jungkook looked at him with a reassuring look on his face. Even though the brunette was probably quite desperate to get the answers he had been looking for for week now out of Taehyung as soon as possible he somehow also made sure that in any wat the blonde himself felt comfortable telling him these things. To Taehyung telling Jungkook things about himself just felt save because he knew the other would never judge him or made him feel bad about himself. "I guess after she saw me go downhill there was nothing left for to stick around for so she just left without a note or text. The only thing she left was an empty apartment, just like she had never been in it in the first place."

Jungkook softly nodded before he sent a small smile Taehyung's way. "Then we beter make this mission a succes Tae. We'll show the whole country what kind of man you've grown to become. We'll make your mother proud of her son and get that chip back." Jungkook spoke, encouraging Taehyung a bit to which the elder smiled back and nodded. Jungkook had been right after all.

it didn't do any good to keep on reliving the past when there was so much to fight for in the future
