Chapter 23
The whole team looked up as soon as the door to the bedroom opened itself again, revealing a very stressed looking blonde. Taehyung looked like his mind was completely clouded will all kinds of unwanted thoughts and immediately Jungkook felt sorry for him. He had known that it would be tough for the older male to talk to his former best friend, the guy that had betrayed him in the worst way possible.
Namjoon was the first to stand up as soon Taehyung walked closer to him. "Did he say anything about the whereabouts of the chip?" The grey haired male asked the younger but Taehyung only briefly shook his head before he walked further towards the door that would lead him out of the apartment. The male looked confused and lost to Jungkook and immediately the brunette felt extremely sorry for him. Ohh how that conversation he'd just had must have been hell for him.
"I'm going out for a bit." The blonde announced, the cold tone that would often lace his voice present once more. It had become like a pattern now to Jungkook. The brunette often found that if Taehyung wanted to avoid or hide something he'd clear his voice of any possible emotion. In a way it made Jungkook feel sad for Taehyung seeing as he apparently felt the need to even hide what he was truly feeling around his friends and thus the hacker couldn't help but wonder why the older often seemed so distant and cold?
"Why?" was the only thing Namjoon managed to bring out as het stared at his friend's back with a confused look on his face. The older male had expected that this conversation would be hard for his younger friend but to him it seemed like Taehyung was completely out of it ever since he had left that bedroom and it worried him. This wasn't like the blonde at all and he clearly got way more affected then Namjoon had first anticipated.
"I need to clear my head." Taehyung simply answered while he walked further to the door. A conflicted look began to make it's way onto Namjoon's face. He knew that there was no stopping the younger once he had set his mind on something he was going to do and forbidding him to go would only result in an argument between them which would ultimately still lead to Taehyung leaving, which was something Namjoon didn't want the blonde to do. Not alone at least.
Suddenly however an idea sprung into the grey haired male's mind and he nodded briefly. "Take Jungkook with you." Namjoon spoke and immediately Taehyung turned around, a hint of confusion clearly visible on his face. "Why?" the blonde asked, not understanding why the elder would want him to take the younger brunette with him. Not that he had anything against the younger male, he just didn't understand why Namjoon wanted them to leave the apartment together.
Namjoon smiled briefly before he locked eyes with Taehyung. "You seem to calm down easier whenever you're with him." Taehyung's eyes slightly widened but he didn't say anything as he turned around and continued to walk outside. Jungkook immediately jumped up from the seat he was sitting in before he walked after the blonde, sending only a small nod to Namjoon. The brunette totally got why he was being send with the older male. Who knows what stupid or reckless things Taehyung would do if he was alone? The blonde needed someone to look out for him and that was exactly what Jungkook was planning on doing. He would look out for the older and be there for him if he needed someone.
"Are you okay?" Jungkook asked as he ran down the stairs to catch up with Taehyung who was a little further ahead. It didn't take long for the hacker to catch up and in times like these he was thankful for always working out. He surely would've been out of breath by now if he hadn't done so much exercises every single day. At least now he had no trouble at all with catching up to Taehyung.
Taehyung sighed softly while continuing to make his way down the stairs. "I just don't get it Jungkook. We were best friends since kindergarten. I don't get how you can go from best friends to wanting to blow each other's brains out." The blonde admitted while a slight look of hurt was clearly visible in his eyes. "Why did he have to ruin everything we had together?"
Jungkook sadly smiled at Taehyung before a compassionate look began to form onto his face. of course the blonde felt stupid about blindly trusting his former best friend. Johnny had betrayed Taehyung in the worst way possible and it was hard to come to terms with that fact for the older. Of course Taehyung didn't understand why Johnny had done what he had done, the blonde himself would've never made those choices had it been him in Johnny's shoes. To Taehyung it wasn't logic at all what the older had done.
"And you know what the worst part is? I still care about him." The blonde then scoffed as he shook his head, a look of defeat now clearly lacing his features. "That's how pathetic my stupid brain is. I still care about the guy who wanted nothing than to see me and you both in a body bag so he'd get his sorry excuse of a father out of prison." The blonde spoke to which Jungkook immediately shook his head.
"Of course you still care about him Taehyung. You've been best friends for almost your whole life. You can't just erase all the moments you spend together." The brunette spoke, a reassuring tone lacing his voice. "He's been such a big part of your life, it's only normal to care so much about him even after he has betrayed you. You can't just let go of the past you have together when some of those moments you spend with him belong to the best memories you have. Caring about him doesn't make you pathetic Taehyung, it just tells you that the bond you used to have with Johnny was real and that is why his betrayal affects you so much. You cannot help but to react this way, it's natural."
Taehyung sighs softly while a small smile began to form onto his lips. "How do you do that?" The blonde suddenly asked while looking at Jungkook with a thankful look on his face. Jungkook looked a bit confused back at the older male "Do what?" The brunette asked while walking out of the building and onto the parking lot.
"Somehow you always know just wat to say to make me feel better." Taehyung admitted before he began to fish out the car key from his jeans and unlock his car. "You make me want to open up to you even though I can't just because I know you will make me feel better about everything I will tell you." The blonde honestly admitted, an almost unreadable look covering his features. " You make all the wrong choices I've ever made feel like they are not my fault even when they are with just a few simple words."
Jungkook smiled at this before he slightly shook his head. "I can make them feel like they're not your fault because they are not. I just need a few words to make you realize that they aren't. Don't punish yourself for the wrongdoing of others Tae, that's not a burden you should have to carry. It's theirs." The hacker spoke before sending a genuine smile Taehyung's way. He truly meant every single word he'd just said and he just hoped Taehyung would soon realize as well that not everything bad that happened lead back to him. He wasn't the one who'd made the bad choices.
Even though so much about Taehyung was still a mystery to Jungkook the younger couldn't help but feel great for already coming this far with the older male. They had reached a point in their relationship were the blonde wasn't trying to hide every single emotion he was feeling from Jungkook and he even talked a lot more than what he used to do in the beginning. They surely were going in the right direction together and who knows, maybe one day Taehyung would feel completely comfortable with opening up about his surely troubled past to Jungkook. However until that time was there the hacker would stay around to support the elder whenever he needed it.
Both males get into the car and Taehyung briefly locked eyes with Jungkook while a small smile could be spotted on his lips. "Thank you Kook, for everything. I know you've been pulled into this whole mess and none of us deserve the kindness you've shown us so just know that I'm really thankful for everything you do." The blonde then spoke and Jungkook wasted no time into taking Taehyung's hand in his own and smiling brightly at the elder.
"Don't worry about that okay? Through this journey together I've met a whole lot of awesome people and I like to think that I've grown as a person as well. You guys thought me that not everything revolves around making as much money as possible and that being alone isn't always a good thing." The brunette spoke while playing the older male's long fingers. It was a habit he had picked up from when he was little. The brunette didn't talk often about himself and when he did he always had to have something in his hands so that he could distract himself a bit while talking, otherwise he surely wouldn't say half the things he wanted to say due to becoming nervous.
"I think we all learned from this experience and while I can't wait for it to be over I'm also thankful for every single thing you guys teach me. I've been on my own for far too long to remember how nice it is to work together and have someone that has your back. To me those experiences can't be expressed in money. Jungkook added before he slowly released Taehyung's hand again and looked up. The older was looking back at him with a soft expression on his face and a hint of understanding visible in his eyes.
That was perhaps what Jungkook liked the most about Taehyung. Somehow the elder always understood where Jungkook was coming from. Taehyung was a master at looking at things through his shoes and thus he always felt understood by the blonde. Taehyung would never judge him for being who he is or acting a certain way. He just understood in a way no one else could. Maybe that's why they clicked so well, they just understood each other like no other.
"I guess we should go now, don't you think?" Jungkook then spoke while he locked eyes with Taehyung again. The older male nodded briefly before he turned on the car and drove towards the exit of the parking lot. "Thanks again for coming with me Kook. I really appreciate it." The blonde then finally said before he drove away from the building in which they had spend so much time already. It almost felt like ages ago when they still used that other lair and Jungkook was glad they'd left that place. This one for sure was a lot nicer and while there was less space at least it didn't feel like the place was haunted.
"No worries, you would've done the same for me." The brunette answered to which Taehyung only smiled back. Jungkook didn't mind that he hadn't gotten a real answer out of the elder, he was completely fine with the smile the other had send his way. That was Taehyung's way of answering him and to the brunette that smile meant way more that any words could have because he knew that the blonde would have his back, like he had already had it so many times before.
