Maybe unicorns did exist. Maybe fairies were real. Maybe there were mermaids swimming in the waters around the world. Maybe it was just a mistake I was chosen to be blessed, or cursed, with the powers of a supernatural being, of a vampire. No not like Edward Cullen from Twilight, but a blood sucking demon with absolutely no control of their new powers, with a new feeling in their chests. A feeling of dead. Emptiness. Something that was no longer part of the human world, an outsider.

Have I tried becoming a "vegan" vampire? Yes. Have I tried living as a human once more and try to stay with the people I once loved? Yes, but I ended up slaughtering the whole city of Miami in the process.

The night of Halloween, sounds cliche, right? I guess it kind of was, but I was asking for it, metaphorically of course. If I knew this was to happen, I would have worn a different costume. Me and my friends were going to a party together. It was a typical senior party, the drinks, loud, earsplitting music and the couples, or, in some cases, the one nighters and drama. Except that day, everyone dressed up. While my friends dressed as famous celebrities or the typical witch, I decided to think out of the box. With a dark V-neck shirt against my pale skin, black skinny jeans and boots, and a mask covering my face, I was some sort of homemade ninja. And with my plastic, real looking swords I pulled the whole outfit together, gaining compliments and applause from many.

My friends were all in the house prepared to begin their party routines while I stood outside, savoring the peace of being alone, before being in the crowded rooms of the small place. Without my notice, a boy that looked no older than nineteen came up beside me, he held a red solo cup.

   "Hey," He said, "Wanna drink?"

I had shook my head, I knew better than to accept drinks at parties, especially from strangers. "No thanks, I'm fine."

"I wasn't asking you." He said. With a confused look, I looked around, we were alone. When my gaze turned to him, he wore a devilish smile that seemed to spread across his face as he threw the cup to the ground, walking closer to me. My mind yell at me to move, but I felt no feeling in my legs, so I stayed where I was, staring into his bright green eyes, that soon turned into a deep, dark red.

His canines seemed to grow and sharpen as he reached me. With a swift motion, he grabbed me and dipped me down to reach my neck, another cliche vampire thing, and then bit into the skin of my neck, drinking the blood from my veins.

I didn't know what to do. I had a vampire drinking my blood, killing me on the spot, while I did nothing to stop him. Did I want to die? I wasn't so sure I did, I mean, yes I was quite depressed from my recent break up, but I wasn't sure I wanted to die because of it, did I? So I just stood still and closed my eyes, basically telling death I was ready. I was scared of course, who wouldn't be? But me against a vampire? I'd fail in a second. I didn't even feel any pain, just,  empty with some odd tingling feeling inside my head and stomach.

Suddenly the guy pulled back and I opened my eyes. His mouth was formed in a smirk, stained with my blood.

"Enjoying this, now aren't you?" He laughed, a deep, scary chuckle. "I'm surprised. I thought you would have screamed and cried for help. Maybe try to run. You are different than the others, not as much fun, but your blood tastes so much better."

Growling at him, my foot sprung up with a sudden blast of unexpected energy. I brought my leg over my head so fast, I flipped over and landed into a crouched, fighting position about two steps away from the confused vampire, who was staring at his empty arms as he was still bent over into a dip, like he was preparing to kiss his invisible partner. He looked up and brought his red eyes to my brown ones. He snarled at me and stood up straight, dusting off non existent dust off of his clothing.

"Impressive." He chuckled, "But not good enough if you're planning to get away from me." He smiled, and was in front of me in an instant, his hand under my chin. My left foot slid out and twirled me, still crouched on the ground. He fell on his back I took my chance and stood, but I did not run, I did not fear. He slowly got up, his smile and toying manners gone, he was furious.

"Listen here, girl. I will not be beaten, not by a human nor a female!" The vampire lunged, his arms spread wide in hopes of catching me, but at the last second, when I thought all hopes were lost, I ducked under him and swiveled around to use my leg and kick him down, which I did. Now I was beginning to feel nervous, I had no control of what my body was doing, it was like complete instincts taken over me, though my instincts usually weren't that much help.

Again he got up, and went into a screaming rage. He swung his arms and fists at me, faster than a speeding car, but I dodged each strike with an amazing speed I never knew I had. The vamp tried kicking me but I jumped up and back flipped, surprisingly landing on steady feet. I had never attempted, nor landed a flip in my life. The fight was endless, him attacking and be deflecting, but soon I felt weak, as if I was a boat with a whole, and I was filling with water, slowly sinking into the ocean.

I sunk to the ground, my vision blurring and used my hands to brace me up onto my knees. I fell to the side, my jelly muscles barely able to hold my arms up into a sitting position, so I sat tilted to the side, continuously tipping closer and closer to the ground, like a child falling asleep. No! I cried in my head, Not now! Why did this power flee so fast?

The vampire smiled once more and took a second to baste in his achievement before stepping towards me and scooping me up in his arms. "You humans tire too quickly, though you did give me quite the battle. You had quite a bit of strength in you, I see." He muttered, "Now, maybe I can pass that off to myself."

With that the vampire brought his teeth to my neck once more and continued to feed. The world grew foggier into a point where I could no longer see anything more than dull colors and a faint outline of my attacker. My eyelids began to grow heavy and slowly closed on their own. I had fallen into a pit of sleep, one that I doubted I would ever return from.
