Recap: The Vampire Prince went to Rin's house and tried to drink her blood. The next day, he appeared at her school.
-------
I was absolutely mortified.
My body was frozen in the spot. All I could do was stare over Carlos's shoulder. This was a nightmare. Hadn't he been arrested last night? Jailed? Paid a fine? Apparently not because he crossed the street in the most relaxed manner ever. Why was he here? That's when everyone spotted him. Carlos turned around with a frown. I heard him curse but I couldn't hear the words.
The Vampire Prince strutted past us in designer jeans and a leather jacket. The black shirt underneath was skin tight. He had a smirk on his face. He practically ignored me and acted like he hadn't barged into my house and tried to kill me. I felt my body shake with anger. It was all I could do to keep myself from making a scene. I couldn't afford to have the entire female population at school against me. I didn't want to deal with the stupid angry notes or the glares. Sonia wouldn't be against me but she was 0.01% and that wasn't going to be much help.
The Prince glanced back and our eyes met. I glared at him. He smiled at me - looking smug before continuing into the school. It was like time had stopped. We were all frozen to the ground. The drop-off line had completely come to a stop and that was even a miracle.
That's when the screaming started.
It was the high pitch squeal of a hundred girls. It did the trick. Time flowed back into place. Girls started crying and some were even hyperventilating. They squealed a stream of words that could shatter glass and jumped up and down. I rolled my eyes. This was how they encouraged his rebellious behavior.
"Why the fuck is he here?" Carlos had snapped out of it. His face was red and his fists were clenched.
I had only seen him that angry when he had heard some jock had been hitting on Sonia. It was surprising to hear Carlos say that. For a second there, I was actually impressed. A hand grabbed my arm. I jumped and nearly fell until I spotted the culprit.
"Sonia," I said.
The next words got stuck in my throat. Sonia was pale and she shook. I grabbed her and hoped she wasn't going to faint.
"Breathe," I told her. "Breathe."
She nodded and tried taking deep breaths. Carlos came up beside her and we lead her to the nearest bench. We walked by a couple of girls texting madly on their phones. In a couple of minutes, everyone in our area would know that the Vampire Prince was at our school.

Saturday.
There was a reason why we go to school on the second Saturday of every month.
Blood Tests.
Yeah, you heard me. Every citizen was required to take a blood test every month. Even our families had to have such blood tests taken. They called in and asked to go to a certain place. It went toward deduction of taxes so; I guess there wasn't a reason to not go. The purpose was for scientific research no one seemed to know about or why. In truth, I suspected it was for mafia purposes. I bet the Government paid the vampire mafia to keep on its good side.
The crimes against humans had gone down and the police weren't finding massacres every other day. This had been seven years ago. Blood seemed to be the only thing turning the world. I could be wrong. Maybe they were trying to make synthetic blood to feed vampires. Or maybe the Government wanted to know . . . Yeah; I think it was for mafia purposes.
My class, as in, my graduating class was ushered into the gym while other classes were taken somewhere else. The seniors were probably in the cafeteria and the others in classrooms. Booths and equipment were set up and the bleachers were pulled back. Teachers lead us to the stage where we sat and waited for our names to be called.
Carlos and Sonia were the first ones up along with twenty other people. Even though my last name started with a 'B', there was a lot of 'A's in the class. It sucked that I had to wait for everyone else afterward to finish. The entire process of the blood tests was going to take all day. We couldn't leave until we were given the all green sign from the Principal.
I leaned against the back wall using my backpack as a pillow. After a moment, I plugged my earbuds into my ears. People around me were reading or watching something on their laptops and iPads. Some were even doing homework. I had brought some books along but right now, I didn't want to use my eyes for anything. They didn't want to stay open.
A few volunteers in pink scrubs pushed around a trolley and handing out snacks to those in the booths. I wonder if they're going to give us lunch, I thought. It had only been less than an hour and I was already starting to get bored. Maybe there was time for me to take a quick nap.
"Borek!" My last name echoed through the gym.
Luckily, one of my earbuds had fallen out. Missing my time wasn't going to end very well for me. I would get fined or something. I quickly turned off my music and walked off the stage. I shoved the device into my backpack and left it behind as I made my way over. I doubted anyone would be stupid enough to steal my stuff. My history teacher led me to a booth 21 where a nurse waited for me. She had a clipboard in her hand and smiled as I approached.
"Hello," she said. "Please take a seat."
Cautiously, I sat on the recliner type thing feeling my back ache. She watched me settle in before closing the white curtain. I looked up at the ceiling as the nurse prepared everything. Tubes clinked against one another. I gulped.
Her cold hands tied a rubber strap to my arm. I winced as it pinched my skin. My arm started to tingle. She slapped my arm a couple of times. I clenched my teeth. I really wanted to smack her back. Couldn't she just wait for my veins to pop out? She didn't have to hit me. I glared at her but she didn't seem to notice.
She took a seat on her stool and rolled up beside me. She placed a basket on my lap with four tubes. My stomach dropped. I looked away as she started getting the needle ready. I breathed deeply and tried to stop myself from shaking. I hated this part. I looked up at the ceiling and closed my eyes. It's okay, I told myself. It will all be over soon.
"Here I go," the nurse said. "Relax."
There was no way my body listened. Even I could tell that I was tense. My back ached with the strain. I felt the needle pierce my skin. My clenched my jaw.
"Almost there," she said.
The needle moved around. Tears jumped to my eyes. Either it was just me or something but I could feel my blood getting drained. My head swam. A shudder washed through my body. I felt like I was dying or close to it.
"How are you feeling?" she asked.
I forced my eyes opened and gave her a weak glare. For a moment, anger stabbed through me. How did she think I felt? My blood was being drained and I hated needles. Was she dumb? I felt horrible and ready to hit her.
"All done," the nurse said.
I blinked. Wait, I thought. I glanced down at my arm as the nurse removed the needle and the strap. It hadn't hurt at the end. The nurse smiled at me. She grabbed a cotton ball from the basket and placed it on the small dot of blood, forming on my arm.
"It's easier when you don't think about it much," she said. "Next time, try to distract yourself a bit."
She reached into the basket but stopped. The nurse frowned.
"I'm out of band-aids," she said. "Rest here a minute, I'll be back."
"Sure," I whispered.
I kept the pressure on the cotton ball as the nurse walked out. I took a deep breath and relaxed. The ache in my body stopped and I stopped trembling. The ringing in my head was gone and I wasn't as dizzy as before. I had a headache though but that I had to be unavoidable. My eyes closed. I was so tired. The noises ceased.
"It smells so delicious."
The silky voice startled me. My eyes snapped open. I was face-to-face with the Vampire Prince. Again. His lips pulled back into a predatory smile. My stomach hit the ground. Before a single thought could be processed, the Vampire Prince grabbed my arm. I could only stare as my cotton bud was ripped away from between my fingers.
"Let's continue where we started."
He grabbed my right arm and pinned it over my head. He raised my arm and pressed his lips against my wrist. His tongue touched my skin. I stiffened as goosebumps rippled across my body. Horrified, I could only stare as the Vampire Prince's fangs pierced into my skin.
