Chapter Four | A Bratty Carriage Journey Part II
Mortification was written all over her face, and the sight was oddly pleasing to him for reasons unknown as he sat on top of her. She was comfy. He blinked, staring down at her as he tried to find the comfiest perch he could despite her frantic squirms. "You..." she stuttered, a strangely adorable sound, her cheeks flushed a bright rosy red. "You—!" Leviathan grinned, spying the redness creeping up to the tips of her ears as he continued to sit on her. "Get off!"
"You make a rather comfy seat, though... Noisy, but comfy," he mumbled, more to himself than anyone else. It wasn't as if the brat was listening to him. He doubted she'd listened to anyone before. "Though I suppose this is a rather undignified position..." He leant down, watching the outrage creeping across her face. "Outside of the bedroom, at least..."
"Like hell you'll ever get me in there, you shameless bastard!"
He clicked his tongue. "At least try to refrain from calling me that in public," he said, a hint of exasperation lining his expression as he glared down at her, amusement fading away the longer she continued to squirm. Still, he couldn't resist the strange urge to tease her some more. He was beginning to enjoy watching her squirm. "Otherwise I might just have to take you over my knee and treat you like the little brat you are."
She hissed up at him, fangs gleaming in the dimming light. There was no real need for the lamps, aside from for his dear fiancée's sake, since he had excellent night vision. Kaliana's was significantly less so, and somehow he doubted she'd enjoy being stuck in the darkness with him, no matter how many interesting situations they might've ended up in. "Try it and I'll claw your eyeballs out."
Leviathan chuckled. It was adorable she actually thought she'd be able to do that. "With what?" he purred, tilting his head as he stared down at her.
Her eye twitched, evidently remembering about her neatly rounded black claws. He'd trimmed them nicely, like the talented prince he was. Nail care was oddly important, especially when one was trying to give off the impression of a noble prince.
He smiled. "I'll always win," he said, resisting the urge to pinch her cheeks as they puffed up like a chiraz's. The resemblance he found between her and the adorable pets he raised was slightly alarming. Leviathan paused, the thought suddenly occurring to him. Was he treating his new dear fiancée as another one of the adorable fluffy animals he'd picked up here and there on his travels? He'd always loved teasing his little pets, even if they hadn't understood him and his language. Perhaps that was why he had the inclination to torment his new little fiancée.
"Arrogant git," she muttered, looking determinedly towards the other side of the carriage – anywhere that didn't involve seeing him. "Why anyone would willingly want to marry you, I have no idea..."
Sighing quietly, he glanced at the window to their side, all the while keeping her in the corner of his eye. He didn't think she'd try anything rash, like jumping out of the carriage while his back was turned, but it'd be better to be safe than sorry. She was a complete brat, and he was fairly sure she'd do plenty of things in the future just to spite him. Oh but make no mistake, he'd get his revenge. His smile turned dark, mind already plotting away, silently coming up with ideas he'd be sure to get away with.
"In this world, looks more often than not outweigh personality," he explained, staring at the three moons hanging low in the sky. Ulna. Skora. Demorg. He listed them off in his brain, proving the many astronomy lectures he'd been subjected to had paid off in the end. "Then, there's my status to consider, brat," he continued, supressing the shudder as he remembered how he'd somehow developed a fan club. They'd loved following him when he went to the astronomy tower. Sometimes, he still twitched when he heard movement behind him in the corridor, but the age of his fan club was over. Most of them were dead and buried in the ground, thanks to those assassins intent of destroying any sort of legacy he might be able to leave behind. He picked his book back up, standing up, sitting down on the other bench as his fiancée sat up faster than he'd ever seen her move before.
"I hate you."
"Good to know, brat." He nodded, not bothering to lift his eyes from his book. Words like that didn't affect him anymore. "Now do me a favour and be quiet, would you?"
She glared at him. It was like a kitten glaring at a tiger. "How about no?"
"Well, I did bring along some duct tape just in case..."
"You—"
He cut her off before she could get another insulting word out. He really needed to teach her to mind her manners... and he was starting to think it'd be a very hands on lesson. "Hush."
Her lips quivered. "I hate you."
"So you've said, now zip it," he ordered, nearly sighing in contentment at the blissful silence which fell as his future wife finally quietened down. She sat opposite him, careful to keep her legs as far away from his own as possible. He sat back, glancing at the red curtains, eyes narrowed as he caught a flicker of movement outside – and it wasn't one belonging to his guard, nor the others who'd accompanied them. Just when things were starting to look peaceful... "And so the waiting game begins..." he said softly, pulling the curtains to. It wouldn't do to give them a clear view of their target, especially with the lights acting as a beacon to every vampire in a mile radius. His gaze flickered back to his fiancée, silently weighing up all the options in front of him, before deciding on the best route to take with the troublesome brat.
Kaliana's patience lasted a grand total of five minutes. "I'm bored," she whined, hands pulling at the fabric covering the seating.
"Hmm?" One shapely brow rose.
"I'm bored," she repeated.
He clicked his tongue again. "Tch."
"Don't tch at me. You're the one who dragged me in here in the first place!"
"Well it was either that or the royal vampire bloodline went extinct..." He shrugged. Nothing would end well if that happened. "Unfortunately, my family isn't quite ready to pass into legend just yet, so I'm afraid you'll have to put up with this boredom for several more hours."
"You expect me to sit quietly in this carriage for several hours?"
Leviathan nodded. "Yes, as a matter of fact, I do," he said, glancing back at her from over his book. He patted the space next to him. "We can always cuddle, if you'd like. It does get rather cold in the regions we'll be travelling through unfortunately." He smiled, already anticipating her cute reaction. "I could use a hot water bottle."
"You expect me to cuddle you?" A red flush rose, the tips of her ears burning as she stared at him with an expression that had tingles running through him.
He'd certainly be having fun teasing her even more in the future. "Yes?"
"Well, you can take your cuddles and shove them—"
"I don't think you want to finish that statement, wifey." He could see the shivers rolling down her spine as he smiled at her far too sweetly. "Otherwise I might get ideas for our wedding night."
"I'm not your wife," she grumbled, brushing away at the shards of wood still littering the carriage floor.
"But you will be brat, so you might as well start acting like it," he said. "Make it easier on the pair of us, would you?"
She snorted, scoffing derisively moments later. "Pfft."
"Cat got your tongue?"
"Shove off," she grumbled, coughing and spluttering seconds later, no doubt thanks to the dry air and dust due to her table-breaking theatrics.
"Need something to drink?" he asked, readying the flask at his side. It was about time he took control of the situation anyway.
"Water."
"Water..." He lifted an eyebrow, staring at her expectantly. Might as well get started on the lesson in manners. She'd need them if she wanted to survive the palace.
She gritted her teeth, looking pained as the word fell from her lips. "Please."
"Why didn't you just say so?" he asked, holding out the flask he'd prepared just for her. Kaliana stiffened, gingerly taking the heavy bottle as though it were some sort of bomb. He just smiled at her hesitance. Maybe she still had some common sense? "Drink up."
Glaring at him suspiciously, she did, taking a large sip before sealing the flask back up, keeping it at her side like a prize she'd just won. In all actuality, he was the one who'd just won, and ten minutes later it became evident just how so. Kaliana blinked at him, swaying in her seat ever so slightly, her eyes locking on his and widening as they spotted the smirk on his lips.
"Hmm," he mumbled, glancing down at his watch. "That took longer than I expected to kick in..." He trailed off, watching as her eyelids drooped – the sleeping drug added to her water supply having finally taken effect.
Her lips moved, muffled words sounding, but he couldn't make them out for the life of him, and for some reason he highly doubted he wanted to. She was probably cursing his existence or something of that ilk. He tilted his head, looking on as she slumped down, getting as comfy as she could – proving his suspicions she still had some amount of common sense – before her mumbled curses were replaced by little snores. It was an adorable sight, especially with those stormy grey eyes opened just a fraction. It was cute how hard she was trying to fight against one of his many schemes.
Sighing, he sat back, eyebrow raised at the way her dress cushioned the little curve of a belly she had. Perfect. A grin curved at his mouth. "I do love a nice heated footrest," he said, kicking off his shoes, settling his bare feet down on her stomach. He'd enjoy it while it lasted, since he doubted there'd be many such opportunities at the palace. "Nighty night, brat," he murmured. "I'm sure you'll sleep well."
