"I told him to shove it up his ass is what I did." I explained once again to my best friend, Mariana. I looked behind me to see her sitting at the kitchen bar. I gave her a pointed look before turning back around. I was cooking her breakfast but she was always a woman of questions.
"You shouldn't have done that, Luci. We don't know what kind of powers fairies have. You should've ask more questions instead of going off on his boss. But let's be honest, I'd do the same thing." She started laughing and I rolled my eyes with a middle finger pointing up into the air to her.
"Well, now that we've spoken about the freak that I wish I wouldn't have met, how was your day yesterday?" It was in the early morning once again but today I didn't feel like going to work. Seeing that man outside of my second home, looking for me, scared me off for the day.
"It was fine. I miss spending time with you these days. I only get to see you when you take off. I don't understand why you don't want to get a job as a waitress or something, like me." She flashed me her hundred-watt smile and winked.
"I know quite a few women that wouldn't mind seein' you every day." I shook my head.
"For the last time, Mary. I'm. Not. Gay. I repeat, not gay. I will never be gay, so I'm sorry but you don't have a chance." I heard her laugh from the living room. She must've started towards her bedroom once again. I loved sharing an apartment with her, but sometimes her gay vibes could get overwhelming. She was determined to make me gay even though she knew it wouldn't happen.
I heard my phone ring, Thunderstruck by AC/DC came on, full blast. I ran into the living room to see Mary holding my phone with a confused emotion across her face.
"It's Lance. Something must be wrong." She gave me a sympathetic smile and handed me my phone. I answered it.
"Hey, Lucia. We have a slight problem..."
"Alright, Lance. Tell me what it is and I'll see if I can take care of it." My worries went sky high. I hoped and prayed the man wasn't back to find me.
"There's a man..." My hopes dropped and my face became twisted in pain.
"If he's a fairy and he smokes, kick him the fuck out. Please." I closed my eyes imagining all the possible things Lance could say after that.
"Well, he has a gun. We all know that we'll have to call the supernatural police, because the human police can't handle fairies of any kind." Lances voice became urgent and hushed.
"Then call them, damnit. He wants to take me away to his boss, and I'm not going. For hells sake, Lance, help me out here."
"Fine, Lucia, but understand you have a huge debt to pay me for saving you."
"You got it, Lance. Thank you."
"No problem, Luci. I'll talk to you later."
"Alright, bye."
I sighed and sunk down into our couch. Why did it seem like this man wanted more than to just take me to his boss? He seemed too sketchy for me and I didn't appreciate him coming back to find me. I wouldn't be surprised if I opened our front door and find him standing there with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth.
"Lucia?" I heard Mary yell from the front door. In that moment I swore that if that damn man was at the front door, I was going to take my pistol from my bedroom and shoot myself in the head with it.
"It's a him. He's tall, dark and, handsome. Wait... don't come. I'll answer it. I ain't gunna let nobody take my best friend away from me." She yelled and I'm sure he could hear her through the door.
"I'll get it, Mary. I have to set this straight at some point." I walked to the front door and found Mary still looking through the peephole.
"Damn... if that is him, I don't see why you ran from him. Hell, I'd go with him any day, and I'm gay." I rolled my eyes and elbowed her away from the door.
"Hey, I still feel pain ya know." She rolled her eyes and walked off. Another knock came at the door and I finally unlocked it. This was it, either I was about to die or at least hate what's about to happen. I opened the door.
"Sweetheart... we're not trying to hurt you." Sure enough it was him. His eyes were brown, and he had slight stubble. His hair was dark brown as well and he was about half a foot taller than me. He was definitely the man who decided to scare the shit out of me last night.
"And how can I trust you? I just saw you being shady outside my building, I'm not going to trust you anytime soon."
"You must, or else you will be taken away. Which would you rather want, to never see your family again, or go with us and live freely?" I squinted my eyes at this man.
"I won't trust you, but I'll go. You better bet your ass if you do something shady, I will kill you." I walked into the apartment.
"Let me change. You can come in if you want. Are we going to be staying somewhere else?" I heard him walk in and close the door.
"You'll need necessities. Pack a few outfits. Boss will buy you new outfits and other unneeded items." I went into my bedroom and did as he said. I still didn't trust him, but what could go wrong? I'd be able to work, I'd be able to see my family and I didn't have to pay rent. It was a win win.
"Do I have a shower I can use there?" I yelled from the bedroom into where I assumed he would be, in the living room.
"You'll have a full bedroom and bathroom to use, so don't worry about that." I smiled and closed my suitcase and changed into a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. I didn't trust this guy one bit, but I did know quite a few people who would come after me. Plus, if things get shitty, I could always call Lance or Toby to come save me. They are more than capable of doing so. I walked out of the bedroom to find the man on my couch, seeming very comfortable.
"What's your name?" I ask him and he looked up at me.
"Quinton."
"Well... Quinton, I'm ready."
