Chapter 8: The weapon

For three days we were stuck in that cell. Three days nobody showed up, not even Obi-Wan, except for the usual guards and patrols. Three days we were staring out in front of us, wondering what the hell we were doing there and why they were keeping us captive.

"We need to get out of here." Stefan sighed as he laid his head back against the cold wall of the cell. I was sitting next to him on the ground, staring at the plate of rations the guards had given us. There was never something special, just a few vegetables and some bread for every meal of the day.

"Eugene won't make it for another night, will he?" Stefan looked at me with concern.

I turned my gaze towards my patient who was on the other side of the cell. Even though we got all the shrapnel out, he was doing badly. I needed more professional equipment to heal him further but the guards refused to answer my pleas.

"He won't." I confirmed softly, trying to keep the news from Eugene himself. "But to get out, someone has to unlock the cell from the outside. You know how the mechanism works."

"Yes, but we could attack the guard when he enters to give us our food." Stefan suggested.

"He has a blaster and we do not." I emphasized. "Look, our best bet is to wait for Obi-Wan-"

"Not the bloody jedi." Stefan rolled his eyes and hid his face in his hands.

"I know he's our enemy, Stefan." We had been discussing this for the past three days. He was a good commander, but when it came to deciding between negotiations and violence he always chose the wrong one. "But sooner or later he will come to try and talk to me again. If he does, I can convince him to get Eugene professional medical treatment and maybe he will let us go."

"And if he won't? What of he refuses to help you?" Stefan turned towards me.

"Then we will fight." My eyes darkened as I stared out in front of me. "I will be able to open the cell door from the outside. We will then take the hidden passage on the east corridor to the sewer and get into the forest for cover, if we haven't shown them our abilities yet."

"It won't be that easy. You can't let them capture you again." Stefan frowned at me as concern filled his eyes.

"Well, I guess it will be time then to show them what we really are." I smirked as my hands glided over my sword. "Sooner or later they would find out, why not a bit earlier?"

Stefan nodded. "It's about damn time."

"Besides, I have my commlink. I just wasn't able to turn it back on because they'd notice and they have probably blocked all frequencies around here." My hand went up to the tiny thing in my ear. "If I get in trouble, I can call Aidan."

"Good." Stefan smiled. "I can't wait to get back to Eagle's fall."

"I'm sure you do." I smiled at him knowingly. My eyes then shot to the cell door when it opened, revealing the one I remembered was named Cody. I recognized him by the color of his uniform.

"Princess Lyanna?" The other five troopers held everyone at gunpoint.

"Captain, it's been a long time." I smirked at him.

"General Kenobi wishes to see you in the Throne Room." Cody continued and motioned for me to stand up. "It's an urgent matter."

"He could've just come himself." I groaned lazily as I stood up on my feet, stretching my limbs to get the dull feeling out of them. When I tried to leave, one of the troopers held me back and then showed me the shackles.

"Is this really necessary?" I huffed as they put the cuffs around my wrists.

"We are still at war here, princess." Cody stated. "And you are our prisoner." He waved his hand for his men to follow him out of the cell.

I looked back at Stefan before I left, nodding at him to say that he should get everyone ready. He nodded back with a determined look on his face. "Not for long, I will."

When we entered the throne room my breath was taken away. Not only because it was over occupied with republic forces and machines, but also because the whole floor had been blown up. Instead of the marble pavement I gazed at a large hole that revealed a massive chamber beneath and a grand light blue crystal-like stone that emitted a glowing light.

Around it they had set up all sorts of equipment. It was evident that they were trying to find out what it was. Even I wondered the same thing.

"Feathers!"

His voice woke me from my thoughts and I closed my eyes in annoyance. Opening them again to see the dark haired jedi walking my way with a huge smirk on his face, I shivered slightly.

"I was told I would be talking to Obi-Wan, not you." I glanced at Anakin as he crossed his arms before his chest. Even after the things he'd done, I couldn't get the image of him shielding me from the explosions out of my mind. He seemed dangerous and violent yet his actions showed the complete opposite.

"It's good to see you too." Anakin chuckled as he looked around at the men who were working. "You don't look so well, princess." He eyed me up and down, seeing the blood stains on my clothes and arms. I'm sure my hair was a mess too.

"Your prison isn't exactly a nice hotel." I glared at him.

He chuckled and then motioned towards the crystal-like thing beneath us. "So much for no weapon, huh?"

"Well, it doesn't really look like the weapon of mass destruction you described." I glanced down at the thing. It was almost 20 feet beneath us and we were standing at the very edge of the hole. "Now if you excuse me, I have a patient to attend to since Obi-Wan is clearly not here."

I made an attempt to turn back but the troopers behind me pushed me back towards Anakin. He kept me on my feet by grasping both my shoulders, making me put my hands on his chest involuntarily.

Glancing up at his eyes, I shivered under his hard gaze and immediately took a step back again.

"Oh, I'm here." Obi-Wan neared from a distance. He waved the troopers he was talking to away as he came to a halt next to Anakin. He glanced between us both after seeing how I awkwardly shuffled on my feet and how Anakin had a huge smirk on his face.

"How's our patient?" He spoke up after a while when Anakin stepped back even further.

"He's doing better, but he needs professional medical treatment, as I told your men a million times." I sighed as I fiddled with the handcuffs. "Besides, he's my patient, Kenobi. Just because you made your hands dirty doesn't mean you're suddenly a doctor."

"Oh, I'm sure it takes a lot more." He smiled and then directed his attention towards Cody behind me. "Get a med-droid to look after him, Cody."

"Right away, sir."

Obi-Wan then looked at me expectantly, as if he was expecting me to thank him. Instead, I only lifted my eyebrow at him. After all, he was still my captor and he caused all of this to happen.

"We wanted to show you something." Obi-Wan said as he laid his hand on the small of my back, guiding me towards the lift that would take us down to the chamber with the weapon.

"No, you wanted to show her something." Anakin interrupted as he pushed a button on the elevator. "I'm only here to make sure she doesn't do anything stupid."

"After all this time," I turned towards him with big eyes. "You still don't trust me?"

"Very funny." He commented dryly.

"What exactly do you expect to get out of this?" I glanced at Obi-Wan while the two troopers behind me held both my upper arms. "Taking me down there, to see a thing I had no clue existed."

"You know more about your people's technology than I do." Obi-Wan answered.

"So you expect me to find out what it does and then tell you all about it, with the risk of making it possible for you to use it against my own people?" I lifted one eyebrow at him as the elevator descended slowly. "Great plan, I'm sure it will work." I scoffed.

"You know Obi-Wan, I always thought you were the only one with so much sarcasm." Anakin spoke up. "Seems you have a competitor."

"Any reaction from you can tell me enough." Obi-Wan chuckled at my sarcasm while ignoring Anakin.

"Right." As the elevator went deeper underground the air got colder. Shivers ran through my whole body but not only because of the cold, but also because of the uneasy feeling that crept up my spine.

My eyes fixed on the weapon, examining it carefully. It looked like a huge chunk of ice with something frozen inside it, something that was too blurry to make out. There was a whole panel before it with numerous screens and buttons that flickered and beeped.

"What exactly did you do to it?" The uneasy feeling only got worse. Nerves started to wreck my body and I could feel cold sweat forming on my skin. Whatever that thing was, I was sure it wasn't something good.

"Oh, we turned it on." Anakin looked at me over his shoulder as we neared the surface. "We just don't know what the hell it's been doing."

"So you turned on a machine that you expected to be a weapon of mass destruction without knowing what you were doing?" I took in a deep breath as my head started to pound. "Man, you keep surprising me with your level of stupid."

"Let's just say that I'm a man of action." Anakin smirked.

The glass doors of the elevator opened, revealing a huge hall that stretched out as far as I could see. It had pillars that supported the throne room above every ten meters, towering over us.

The thing that scared me the most were the engravings in them, showing a legend I knew all too well.

"It has been like this for two days now, just emitting this light. The volume of the crystal seems to have depleted though, so I'm guessing that something's inside." Obi-Wan explained as we neared it. "Do you have any idea what it is?"

I couldn't hear his voice through my thoughts. My eyes were wide open and my body was shaking as I stared at the prison that they called a weapon. All this time it had been here, right under our noses. It was like a bomb waiting to explode.

The troopers had a hard time holding me still as I looked around frantically, trying to figure out what to do as fear erupted inside of me. My breath came out in clouds of smoke while the bitter cold bit at my skin.

How could this have happened? Why would anyone betray us, only to let this fall into the jedi's hands? Why hadn't it been destroyed in the first place? I had a hard time breathing as I tried to escape, tried to get as far away from that thing as possible. The troopers wouldn't let me though.

My father, he needs to know about this. He would know what to do, he always does. But this... This is so much more than he ever faced. And he's sick, so sick, maybe he won't even be able to fight. But we have to.

I would have to ask my uncle first, I decided. He would know what's best for father, he would know what to do with this thing. I need to tell him as soon as possible before everything goes wrong.

"Lyanna!" Only then did I notice that Obi-Wan had been calling my name. He had both his hands on my shoulder while the troopers held me in place from behind, trying to make me look at his concerned eyes.

"What's going on, what is it?" Obi-Wan questioned. Diverting my eyes away from him and towards Anakin I saw how he too was looking at me in confusement.

"Turn it off." I looked back at Obi-wan as I shivered violently. "You have to turn it off, now." I said as my eyes filled with desperation.

"What? Why?" Obi-Wan frowned as the grip of his hands on my shoulders tightened.

"There's no time to explain!" I tried to yank my arms free. "Just turn it off!"

"All right, feathers, there's no need to panic." Anakin crossed his arms before his chest while Obi-Wan tried to keep me calm. "Just tell us what it is, it can't be that bad."

"You have no idea what you're dealing with!" I yelled in frustration. "That thing, it killed thousands, if not millions, it-" my breath hitched in my throat. "Just turn it off!"

"You know we can't do that if you don't explain to us-" obi-Wan calmly explained until I interrupted him again.

"You won't understand, not in time." I shook my head multiple times while my eyes widened in fear. "It will break free again before you can stop it."

Obi-Wan sighed deeply and glanced at Anakin who shrugged. I looked at them desperately, if they weren't going to listen then... Well, I would have to do it myself. "Turn. It. Off." I spoke clearly while my heart thumped wildly.
