Chapter 23: Agressive negotiations

Above an early draft for the renewed version of the cover, hope you enjoy!

"You can go fuck yourself." My defiant eyes glared right back at my uncle. He narrowed his and knelt down before me slowly without breaking his gaze. My eyes however flickered between his and the place I'd seen Anakin hiding before. I needed to stall, for Anakin probably was figuring out a way to stop the machine from freeing Arthas. If I could somehow keep Derik's attention directed to me, together with all his men surrounding him, maybe he'd succeed.

"I don't know if you've ever had negotiations before, but this isn't usually how you do them." Obi-Wan muttered as he slowly opened his eyes and groaned loudly as he woke up. He struggled to get back on his knees, his scorched flesh hurting him with every move he made. He sighed deeply as his eyes adjusted to the darkness around him and found Derik right in front of us and the chains around his hands. "Lyanna, my darling, seems we find ourselfs captured again."

"It's becoming an occupational hazard." I chuckled as I glanced at him. His face was covered with dirt, his hair hanging loosely before his eyes that tried their best to stay open. Even like this he managed to look way more attractive than I ever thought possible, especially when a smirk started to play around his lips when he too noticed Anakin. "How are you feeling?" I asked when he flinched.

"It feels like I've been struck by lightning over ten thousand times." He huffed as he tried to get into a more comfortable position.  "It's just a scratch." He nodded at me, making me chuckle lightly.

"I'm sorry to interrupt your chatter, Lyanna, but we're in a situation here." Derik snapped. Obi-Wan and I both glanced at him. "If you don't surrender now, I'm afraid that when Arthas breaks free, which he WILL, I won't be able to protect you."

"Oh I didn't notice you there, councillor." Obi-Wan commented dryly. "Oh wait, not a councillor anymore, I presume, after you betrayed your king. Should I call you 'my lord' instead?"

"Nah he's not a lord." I huffed as I looked at my uncle, unimpressed by his attempts to scare us. "He doesn't really own any land around here. I'm afraid he doesnt have any title, so 'sir' should be just fine."

Derik sighed deeply, bit his lip and glanced away from us for a moment. He was clearly getting frustrated, especially when Obi-Wan's smirk grew even bigger and his troops around him started to snicker too. "All right then." Obi-Wan said. "Sir Derik, if you'd be so kind as to provide us with some nourishment I'd be happy to negotiate with you."

"I would like some tea please." I added as I sat upright, ignoring the adamentium bounds around my hands. All the while I was forming an escape plan in my head. Obi-Wan's lightsaber was being held by Dylan, who was watching from a few feet away. It'd be able to cut through the cuffs but then we'd have to reach him first. "It's freezing out here, don't you think?" I turned my head towards Obi-Wan while subtelly nodding at the location his lightsaber was.

He noticed it too and nodded at me. I saw his hand opening behind his back, and I felt the surge of the force that suddenly came from it. He wasn't trying to grasp the saber yet, I found out, just seeing if he could do it. I saw the corner of his mouth lift just a little. "The circumstances of these supposed 'negotiations' of yours are less than desirable, I must admit." Obi-Wan said calmly. "Not to mention the conditions of your men, Sir Derik."

As Obi-Wan continued to banter about all that, I glanced back at Anakin. He'd already jumped down the wall and made his way to the cage while taking out some soldiers quietly. Derik's men, those who were left, were all listening closely to our conversation, one a little more amused than the other. Their attention, however, surely wasn't directed at where it should be. I saw Anakin frown as he stood before the panel, his eyes scanning the numerous buttons.

"ENOUGH!" Derik yelled suddenly. His outburst awoke his men instantly, their mouth hanging wide open for a few moments before they composed themselves. "This is not a game, Lyanna!" He spoke angrily as he grasped my chin roughly. "Now I care about you and your little healing skills, but my patience is wearing thin." He growled while strengthening his hold, making me flinch in pain. "Surrender, NOW, or suffer the consequences."

"Stop it, you're hurting me." I glared at him as I tried to wrickle from his grasp.

"Oh I'll be doing so much more if you refuse to cooperate." He growled as his fingers duck deeper into my skin.

"Derik." Obi-Wan said calmy yet his voice made a shiver run up my spine. There was anger hidden underneath it, anger that I had never heard or felt from him before. Both my uncle and I turned to glance at him. "Let her go." Obi-Wan spoke clearly and slowly, his eyes narrowing as his eyes almost literally burned with rage. "Now." He continued as his mouth twitched into a snarl.

All the guards and me included took in a deep breath and waited for one of the two to react. With just those simple words Obi-Wan managed to disrupt Derik in such a way that he seemed at a loss of words, even though he wasn't even the one in chains. His grip on me loosened as he now directed his full attention to the jedi.

"Uhm, Obi-Wan?" I stuttered as I noticed the dark smoke forming around my uncle's hand. "You might want to back down now." The dark smoke soon materialized into a dagger, the dark material reflecting the blue light of the crystal.

As my heart started to race at the obvious danger Obi-Wan was in he seemed utterly calm. He didn't even look at the dark black smoke that started to form around us all but instead stayed focused on Derik.

"You've worn out your purpose." Derik stated as he looked at the dagger he'd created. "I've always hated the jedi, anyway." He smirked, grasping the hilt tighter.

"Uncle! Please, don't." I spoke quickly as I tried to scoot my way over to Obi-Wan. One of Derik's men quickly held me back by my shoulder, but I continued to protest.  Tears sprung up in my eyes when he lifted his arm to strike, unphased by my words. "He's valuable to the republic! If you kill him now they will invade!"

"Let them try." I could hear him smirk through his voice. Just when he was about to strike Obi-Wan down, I yelled even harder.

"I will join you!" I cried as tears flowed down my cheeks. He stopped his movement mid air, his back still facing me.

"Lyanna, don't!" Obi-Wan spoke through his teeth as he glared up at Derik.

"I will join you if you let him go, unharmed." I continued. "I will do everything you ask, just don't hurt him!" I spoke louder as each word passed.

Derik turned around to face me for a moment, noticing the tears staining my cheeks. He sighed deeply, closing his eyes as I uttered another silent 'please'. "I want you with me because you want to, Lyanna." His expression turned grimm. "Not because of your love for a jedi." He spoke with disgust as he turned back towards him. Obi-Wan looked up at him defiantly.

"Don't!" I yelled, yolting towards him as far as I could. "Derik, no!"

He lifted his arm again and tried to strike again. For a moment everything froze. I saw the blow he was about to deliver, but also felt the force shift dramatically. The lightsaber flew from a now shocked Dylan and reached Obi-Wan, who with one swift move removed the chains around his hands and stood back up. With the momentum he gained he swung his saber and parried the blow Derik was about to deliver.

"Anakin, NOW!" Obi-Wan yelled as he held their swords before them.

I turned around and saw Anakin before Arthas, his lightsaber ready in his hand. With one yell he jumped high in the air and then planted the saber right in Arthas's frozen chest.

"NOOO!" Derik yelled loudly, and a gust of energy erupted from Arthas, knocking everyone back on the ground. Both Obi-Wan and my uncle were thrown against the walls of the ruin, together with most of my uncle's men. Anakin too was thrown back but he managed to land perfectly on his one knee, so that he could see his handiwork.

As I looked up from my position on the ground with my hands still tied, I saw the smoke rising from Arthas' chest. Other than that nothing was happening.

"What have you done?!" Derik yelled at Anakin and charged at him, his wings sprouting from his back as he jumped right on top of him.

As he was being distracted, Obi-Wan defeated most of his men and made his way over to me. "Are you all right?" He asked as he cut through the handcuffs using his lightsaber.

"You're the one who was first electrocuted, and then almost stabbed." I spoke out of breath as I watched the battle Anakin was in. It seemed as if he had everything under control, but  he didn't truly know what my uncle was capable off. When he was going to use his power Anakin had no change to anticipate his moves and would surely fall.

"Just a normal day for us jedi." Obi-Wan stated as he helped me up. His eyes locked with mine for a moment, and only then did I truly realize what I would've given up just for him. I shook it from my thoughts and then quickly ran towards the cage.

"You help Anakin, I'll worry about Arthas!" I yelled over my shoulder and soon arrived before the warrior. His eyes were still glowing a deep red, staring down at me. His arms and legs were still trapped in the crystal, but the smoke that was emitting from it didn't really indicate that it was going to stop depleting.

"What in the hell." I muttered under my breath as I watched the wound in his chest healing slowly.

"Lyanna, you might want to hurry!" Obi-Wan yelled as Derik held him against the wall with his sword just a few inches from his delicate neck. Anakin charged at him from behind, giving his master a chance to break free from the deadly position.

Just as I was ready to push some buttons, arms wrapped around my waist and threw me back to the ground. "You can't stop it!" Derik yelled in frustration, blood covering his face. I narrowed my eyes at him as I stood up slowly, rage and frustration giving me the will to muster up all the strength I had left. I collected all the energy around me and in me, feeling the force surround me as I heated up my fists. Derik watched as flames surrounded my fists and snarled at me, but soon turned his attention back towards the jedi who were trying to attack him.

"Princess, the cage!" Anakin yelled, parrying another blow Derik had landed.

I turned, extending my arm towards the cage and screamed out loud, letting out all the frustration and energy I had build up. Flames erupted from my palms and engulfed the cage, making everyone shield themselves from the heat. The flames engulfed the cage as the red and orange colors created dancing shadows all around me.

The power flowed through my body, hightening every sense I had and making me feel indestructible. Snapping from that trance, I closed my fist and watched as the fire died down. I smiled ever so slightly as the flames died down and all I could see was black ashes and smoke rising from the crystal. Just then Anakin had managed to disarm Derik and Obi-Wan had kicked him, throwing him down on his knees in front of them.

From that position Derik glanced up, looking at the pile of ashes before him. He sighed, his breath lifting up a few of the ashes that had fallen before him. His eyes were filled with hatred as he directed them towards me, his jaw clenching as his fists balled at his side.

I turned my back towards Arthas' ashes and confidently made my way towards him. The jedi watched me hesitantly for they did notice what had happened, and they weren't sure what to think about the power I had just managed to control. Especially Obi-Wan watched me with a new found curiosity, but also a tint of weariness.

"Well, that went better than expected." Anakin smirked as he juggled with his lightsaber. "This so called 'weapon of mass destruction' seems to be just another minor threat after all." His eyes then set on me. "You've got some fire in you, princess, literally."

"I don't know Anakin." Obi-Wan spoke as he held Derik at the end of his saber. "Something doesn't quite feel right yet."

"Don't worry Obi-Wan." I spoke, glaring down at my uncle. "Nothing can withstand the heat he'd just been exposed to."

Obi-Wan didn't seem convinced. "I sense a great disturbance in the force, almost like... something just woke up. I've only felt something like this a long time ago."

Anakin frowned but then concentrated, feeling an all to familiar presence in the air around us. he looked at his former master knowingly. "The brother."

"Jedi..." A deep voice suddenly surrounded us. The jedi immediatelly jumped back into defensive positions, their sabers raised before them.

"What was that?" Anakin looked around and noticed how suddenly everything became darker, the light vanishing. It was like a dark cloud came down on us, making us unable to see more than 2 feet before us. The air seemed to freeze almost instantly, our breath forming clouds. The rain had stopped and the noice from the battle died down. Derik smirked as he kept me locked in his gaze, his mouth turning up into a smile.

"Anakin, where are you?!" Obi-Wan looked around, seeing only darkness surround us. His lightsaber lit the area around us, but it was only us three standing there. He forgot about Derik and waved his ligthsaber around, trying to find his former padawan in the darkness.

"Stormrage...." The voice continued, this time laced with even more anger. The air weighed down on us as a growl rumbled through the air. Suddenly the voice was filled with pure rage as it boomed through the ruins. "Fireheart!!!"

"Uncle." My eyes widened when I realized what was happening. "What have you done?"
