Chapter 11: The city of clouds

"We can work this out, together." Obi-Wan's voice echoed through my head as I was making my way towards Eagle's fall. Still doubting wheter or not I made the right choice, I kept on repeating his claim over and over till it would make sense.

It never did. I didn't understand him, didn't know what he aimed to accomplish. He was to one who invaded our land and then claimed that he was led there by one of our own. That on itself was something doubtfull. Yet somehow I believed him, he didn't seem like someone who would lie. But if he wanted to help me figure this out, why didn't he listen to me?

My head was throbbing and my wings were aching but I carried on nonetheless, my eyes focusing on my destination that came into view.

Eagle's fall, as the name suggests, was located right beneath a waterfall. The city was built on the bottom of the cliff, surrounding the river and clouded with the steam.

It was beautifull, the city had many watchtowers guarding the town and there were a lot of bridges crossing the rivers. On the cliffs amidst the river houses were built, the bottom of their stone foundation covered in the green plants that grew near the riverbed. Around the city was a tall wall and behind that was a dense forest.

It was a strategic place for us to inhabit. Besides the wonderous location, Eagle's fall was the centre of our planet when it came to trade routes. The city itself also had a recruitment centre, the place where all our warriors were trained to fly and control the Seidr. I myself had been training there for quite some time.

I landed gracefully near the royal palace of the city. It wasn't much, just a few buildings made to look impressive. It did have its own landing platform and stables though, together with a few servants and one cook.

While re-adjusting my tunic and examining the wound on my leg that was healing pretty well, my thoughts were still focused on a certain blue eyed jedi. Which meant that I didn't notice my father storming out of the palace.

"Lyanna Cirilla Deania Nightwing!" His large, heavy steps suddenly woke me from my day dream. I straightened up
Immediately, turning towards him while thinking of a good story to match my absence for the past four days.

Instead of a furious speech I was met with a bone crushing hug. "Father?" I tried to breathe while he was almost crushing the life out of me. "A little air, please."

He let me go only to put both his hands on my shoulders. His wise eyes locked with mine as he knotted his dark eyebrows together. "Don't ever do that to me again." He ordered, his eyes turning stern.

"In my defense, I followed your orders." I smiled awkwardly. "Besides, I never was in any immediate danger."

"You mean to say that you weren't captured by two jedi who could have impaled you with their glowing sticks at any given moment?" Aidan walked towards us while taking off his gloves.

"They would never have done that." I rolled my eyes at him while taking a step back from my father. "On the contrary, they were very gentle and honorable."

"Of course, because you bewitched them with your impressive charm." He mocked me, earning a scoff from my father and a glare from me.

"Where's Eugene?"

"I brought him to the medbay." Aidan answered as he walked up to us. "He's going to be fine, doc. Now back to the real problem here: what did you learn during your moment of capture?"

"That's something we will discuss later." My father interrupted us. "The council is waiting for us."

"This planet is really something, huh?" Anakin walked up to Obi-Wan and stopped by his side, glancing at his face. The older jedi had been staring at the so called weapon for a few hours now after the princess had escaped.

He had barely talked to anyone apart from barking some orders at the clones to clean up the mess in the royal quarters. His mind, that was normally calm and centered, was now fully stressing about the princess and her words.

Obi-Wan had no idea what they were dealing with. Lyanna was right, they shouldn't have meddled with the weapon without fuly understanding its capabilities. What other choice did they have though? They couldn't possibly trust the people, let alone a single woman who had attacked them the moment they laid eyes on her.

Let alone what she had kept from them. Obi-Wan wasn't sure what they had witnessed when she escaped. He even considered the possibilty of it being some kind of illusion. The burn marks on his arm though were real enough. In addition, he knew that it was real, that she had wings and powers they deemed unnatural.

Yet he knew that it was the force, what he had been using himself, only in a different form. These people, these Valerians, he knew that they were something they had never encountered before. All in all, this trip was getting more and more exciting every passing hour.

No matter how simply he could phrase the situation, Obi-Wan's mind never left the subject. He always was one to overthink everything.

"Especially feathers." Anakin crossed his arms before his chest after Obi-Wan failed to comment. Annie's eyes watched the weapon carefully, trying to figure out what it was doing. Lyanna's attempt to destroy it had failed. The only thing she accomplished was making sure they couldn't turn it off anymore.

"I mean, wings? I didn't see that one coming." Anakin chuckled awkwardly. "Besides, she's obviously crazy. The way she reacted after seeing that thing... Well, I don't believe it is that bad."

"Oh, I'm sure she's not." Obi-Wan finally spoke up. "There must be a reason that this thing is hidden beneath the palace. Besides, she really did act like she had never seen it before."

"You may have a point." Anakin admitted and then glanced at him while frowning. "Why are you defending her?" He asked.

"I just feel like there's more to this than meets the eye." Obi-Wan admitted. "Besides, Lyanna did make some solid points. Plus: she is a skillfull warrior."

"Skillfull enough to defeat you." Anakin chuckled. "Truth be told; I'm starting to like her style. Busting out her whole gang, taking out dozens of our troopers, handing your arse back over to you,-"

"Anakin." Obi-Wan rolled his eyes. "It wasn't like that."

"What was it like then? Did you kneel down before her voluntairly? Did you fall for her remarkable beauty and decided to pledge your life to her? Did you offer your services as a knight to protect her for the rest of your life, promising that your love for her would never falter?" Anakin laughed at him while Obi-Wan only shook his head in annoyance and hid it in his hands.

"If Ahsoka only was here." Anakin sighed deeply with a broad smile. "She would've loved this."

"I'm sure she would have." Obi-Wan traced his beard with his fingers. "But I don't think she would've liked what is coming next."

The whole council was a chaos. It began at the very beginning, when everyone walked inside the chamber. Formerly it was used as a dining room but with no other options we decided that it would do just fine.

"Uncle?" I walked up to him after noticing his dark hair between the masses of faces. My hand touched his shoulder softly to try and get his attention before the council began.

"Cirilla! Oh, how I was worried about you." He smiled broadly at me as he turned towards me. When he noticed my grimm expression though, he turned serious and laid his hand on my shoulder. "Are you all right?" His eyes darkened. "Is there something you wish to tell me?"

"There is, actually." I took in a deep breath, glancing at my father to make sure he wasn't within earshot. "Promise me you won't tell father about this, I don't think he can handle it right now."

"Of course, of course. Whatever you say." My uncle frowned and slightly bowed his back so he was on the same height as me. "You can tell me everything."

"Good." I let out a deep breath while making myself ready. I still got goosebumps just thinking about it. "In my moments in capture, the jedi took me to see something they had found beneath the city."

I tried to see if there was any recognition in His eyes, anything that might tell me that he knew what it was about. "Beneath the Throne Room." I added. Derik still looked confused.

"And? What was it?" He pressed on.

"I'm not sure, I'm not even sure if it is possible. Yet everything seemed so clear. But it shouldn't be possible, I thought it was just a myth but why would it be exactly like that? It just doesn't make-" i ranted while my hands ran through my hair stressfully.

"Calm down, Cirilla." Derik gently squeezed my shoulders to try and soothe me. "Just tell me slowly."

"I-I think that they found Arthas Blackwing's prison." I swallowed loudly as shivers ran up my spine. I tried to warm myself up by wrapping my arms around myself but it didn't help at all.

"Arthas?" His eyes widened. "Are you sure?" He then frowned, his hands squeezing my shoulders till it hurt as he brought me closer to him, his eyes boring into mine. "Lyanna, are you sure?!"

"I-I'm sure." I stuttered, baffled by his reaction.

"What were they doing? Did they start the machine? Was it depleting?" He bombarded me with questions and then started to shake me by my shoulders when I didn't answer immediatelly.

"I guess it was on, but I destroyed the panel." I frowned at him while trying to free myself from his painful grasp.

"You did what?!" His eyes widened and his grip tightened even more.

"It needed to be turned off, right?" I stuttered nervously, glancing around to see if anyone was looking.

My uncle groaned, letting me go as he started to rub his forehead. "After you destroyed the panel, did it stop glowing? Was there any kind of change inside the crystal?" He looked at me again.

"I guess not..." I frowned, trying to recall the memory. I was too focused on Obi-Wan to even think about examining the weapon itself. My frown deepened as I looked back at my uncle. "Derik, I..." My eyes examined his. "I didn't say anything about a glowing crystal, did I?"

I remembered the fact that there was a traitor in our midst as I examined my uncle's face. The only thing he looked like was stressed out though, especially when he pressed his teeth together and his jaw clenched.

"Attention please!" My father's voice boomed through the room. Everyonr around us immediatelly took their seats, walkin right past Derik and I. We didn't move an inch though, just staring at each other as we let my words sink in.

"Let the council begin." My father added. I finally broke eye contact with my uncle and made my way towards my seat which was located beside my father.

As they started the council, my thoughts were racing. Could it really be my uncle who did it? Was it him who told the jedi about a weapon on our planet, a weapon which we were going to use?

What motives does he have? I wondered, glancing at him from accross the table. He was always clear about how he disliked my father's methods, that's for sure. But calling the republic, using their army to gain power? That was very unlike him. If there was anything in this world that Derik hated most, it was the jedi.

I rubbed the bridge of my nose. He does know about the prison though. I told myself. Yet I knew that that didn't have to mean anything, maybe even my father knows about it. Plus, I couldn't make out if he was either stressed or happy about the fact that the machine was still on.

Who else had motives to betray our people? Who had access to communication with the republic, and had the position that would allow them to make the jedi trust him or her? Some farmer boy wouldn't be able to convince the republic, that's for sure. It had to be someone with a high position in our ranks.

I sighed and leaned back in my chair. Finding the traitor is going to be a lot harder than I originally thought.
