Chapter 10: A medic's purpose

Within a few minutes, after some kicking and shooting at troopers that came into my way, I entered the huge kitchen of the castle. Panting loudly and grasping my arm which had been crazed by a shot, I made my way towards Eugene who was sitting on one of the tables while being examined by a droid.

There were other patients, mostly troopers, that were being treated by those machines they called med droids. Only they were shielded from my sight by huge white curtains they had set up there.

"Val'kyr?" Eugene's eyes widened at my chaotic appearance. He on the other hand looked rater well, there was a rosy tint to his cheeks and his eyes had their fire back. I didn't know what that droid gave him, but it surely helped.

"Can you walk?" After taking a look at his chest I sighed in relief, they had treated his lung which could now heal properly.

"Yes, I think so." Eugene demonstrated it by setting his two feet on the floor.

"We need to get out of here, now." I said after slashing the droid in half with my sword, earning a shocked gasp from Eugene.

"But why now? What happened?" His eyes widened while looking at me.

Grasping his arm and dragging him towards the door I entered through, I tried my best to ignore the reappearing pain in my leg. "Let's just say the jedi don't like me that much anymore."

I opened the door quickly, my eyes darting through the hall and finding four other sets staring back at me.

"Oh, dear." I was frozen in place after noticing that it was the captain, Cody and Obi-Wan himself. They too were dumbfounded for a while but the jedi collected himself rather quickly.

"Stop right there!" Obi-Wan started to charge at us with his saber ready, followed on his heel by his troopers.

I swiftly closed the door, leaning my back against it while trying to catch my breath. "Not that way." I concluded and shoved a table before the door, hearing a loud banging soon after.

"Where exactly are we going?" Eugene followed me towards the other door on the right that led to the royal quarters of the castle. "'Cause for as far as I know, that only takes us higher."

"I don't know Eugene, I'm improvising!" I groaned while running up the stairs, occasionally aiding Eugene because he couldn't run that fast. When we were on the top of those stairs, I grasped a grenade from my belt.

"What the hell is that?" Eugene asked when he saw the round little thing in my hands. We didn't have grenades on our planet but luckily enough my father taught me some things about the foreign galaxies and planets.

"They call it a grenade." I took off the pin and threw it behind us, hoping to slow Obi-Wan and his crew down.

I knew we wouldn't lose Obi-Wan with running and grenades alone. So I came up with another plan. "Aidan? There's been a complication." I turned my commlink back on while leading Eugene and me further up the stairs.

"Of course there's been a complication." He said, his voice loaded with annoyance. "What is it now?"

"I need you to pick me and Eugene up on my balcony." I said. "Only you, Stefan's leading the others through the sewers."

The grenade went off behind us. I could hear the stone walls falling apart and crashing down, followed by a few surprised shouts from the troopers. Weirdly enough I was hoping that they either got trapped or that the rubble would have blocked their way instead of it falling onto them.

"What, scared of a little stench now?" Aidan chuckled. "You've got it, sis."

"Thanks Aidan." I sighed in relief as we arrived in front of my room. I opened the door, letting Eugene and me through it and then immediately locked it again behind us.

"There's some morphine in the bottom of the closet on the right, take it if you need it." I told Eugene while shoving another desk before the door to try and slow Obi-Wan down. For as far as I knew, he seemed persistent.

"Why do you have all this stuff in your room?" Eugene opened the closet, revealing a lot of flasks and caskets filled with medicine. He took out the morphine and immediately injected himself with one.

"Because I'm a doctor!" After I had collected some supplies from the same closet that I was sure I was going to need, I got both of us on the balcony, pacing in the open air while waiting for my brother.

"C'mon Aidan, now is not the time to be late." I murmured while glancing at the clear sky. The alarm was still going off rather loudly and I could hear several shouts coming from down below.

"Just go on without me, I'll wait for the bird on my own." Eugene offered, clearly feeling guilty about this whole thing, about being a reliability.

"Nonsense, we're not leaving anyone behind." I smiled at him but it didn't really reach my eyes. My heart was thumping wildly as the adrenaline rushed through my body. I didn't want to fight, didn't want to hurt any clone.

The opening of the door with a loud boom didn't make it much better.

"Lyanna!" A voice soon followed the boom. I turned around swiftly, seeing Obi-Wan alone coming through the door. His hair was tussled and his eyes had lost much of his kindness as they glared right at me.

"Anakin, she's on the balcony on the sixth floor." He said to his commlink while his eyes remained on me.

"Get behind me." I stepped before Eugene, grasping my blaster from my belt and immediately holding it up in defense. "You don't look so well, Kenobi." I noted after seeing the dark spots and burns on his clothes.

"The time for games is over, princess." He snarled, letting me know that also his sarcasm was gone. He really was getting serious this time. "Drop your weapon now before anyone gets hurt."

"I can't do that." I shook my head no.

"Then you leave me no choice." He sighed deeply and grasped his lightsaber, storming right at me with the thing raised.

I stepped back slowly and started shooting at him after making sure it was on stun. What I hadn't expected was Obi-Wan deflecting those shots skillfully with his saber, making the shots collide with the walls of my room until he was in the doorpost that lead to the balcony.

He suddenly stretched his arm before himself swiftly. Before I knew it, the blaster was knocked out of my hands and was falling off the balcony.

"Oh no." I sighed, feeling lost without the blaster and watched how Obi-Wan, who had a dangerous scowl on his face, neared us with his saber raised without us having the chance to escape.

"Last chance." He said as he faced me standing sideways with his arm that held the lightsaber bowed on the far side and the other arm stretched out before him.

One of his golden locks was hanging right before his eyes that popped out even more due to the dark dirt on his face. "Hand yourself over, princess, I don't want to hurt you."

"Who says you will get the chance?" I grasped my sword from my belt, watching as the silver colored blades came out of the small cylinder and the decorations unfolded.

"Don't try it." His eyes wandered towards my sword and then back to me. "You will lose."

"Your overconfidence betrays you, jedi." I narrowed my eyes and went into a defensive stance, watching him closely.

"So be it." He suddenly jumped right at me, his sword going right for my legs.

I jumped over it and stepped back slightly, giving myself the room to strike back on mid-height. Obi-Wan dodged by jumping back also but quickly regained balance, launching an attack from above that was directed at my chest.

He was holding back, I noted after I saw that his attack was slow and easy to maneuver. He was expecting me to parry it, I was sure. He probably thought that my sword wasn't able to withstand a lightsaber, resulting in him being able to splice it in two. So Instead of dodging it I held up my sword before myself, parrying his blow as sparks from his lightsaber flew from the spot they connected.

His eyes widened when his saber didn't cut right through my sword, his eyes quickly connecting with mine as our swords were pushing against each other before us. "What? How-" he muttered.

Using his confusement to my advantage, I kicked him back by placing my foot on his belly. He stumbled back and tried to regain balance and his concentration, twirling on his feet till he could stand properly again.

While he was still somewhat dazed he launched another attack, this time by trying to stick me with the point of his saber.

I dodged it by turning sideways and jumping closer to him, making it able for me to grasp his wrist that held the saber with my own free hand. While narrowing my eyes right at his, I heated up my hand till his tunic started to burn to a crisp right under my touch.

He yelled in pain and dropped his lightsaber, falling to his knees after I gave him another kick in the stomach. His right arm glasped around his stomach while his other hand grasped his injured arm. He panted loudly, watching the burn marks on his skin like it had been inflicted by a dragon.

It was when I put the tip of my sword on the side of his neck while standing right before him that he looked up, his blue eyes connecting with mine. I was surprised to see that there was no trace of fear in them even though I almost literally held his life in my hands.

"Wha-what are you?" Obi-Wan asked with wide open eyes as he stared at me.

"They call us The Valarjar, the warriors of the gods." I answered and then pushed the tip of my sword harder against his neck, drawing a few drops of blood. I didn't understand why I couldn't do it, why I couldn't kill him right there and then. Something was holding me back, preventing me from drawing my sword through the sensitive skin of his neck.

"Val'kyr?" Eugene's voice popped up from behind us, making me awake from my deep thoughts. "What are you waiting for?"

My eyes went back to Obi-Wan's who looked right back at me. My chest was rising and falling repeatedly, my breath ragged and fast. "I-I..." I stuttered, unable to look away or move.

"Lyanna, there you are!" I heard my brother's voice behind us pared with the sound of two sets of wings. He landed behind us together with a saddled gryphon. "Aaah, I see you've been enjoying yourself."

Gryphons were around the same size as griffins but just a bit smaller. They had the upper half of an eagle and the lower body of a lion. Because they were much easier to tame and easy to use in combat, we used them more often in combat.

I heard Aidan's chuckle and his footsteps drawing near. Neither Obi-Wan nor I turned to look at him, unable to break our eye contact.

"And a jedi at that, you've been busy." Aidan stepped right beside me, examining Obi-Wan while he patted my shoulder. "Finish it, dear sister, father is waiting for us to return."

"You go on with Eugene, I will catch up with you." I mumbled and saw Aidan's confused glance from the corner of my eye. He shrugged and then helped Eugene on the griffin, unwrapping his own wings from behind his back.

"Try not to get captured this time." Aidan chuckled while standing on the edge of the balcony with his golden wings stretched out behind him. "And don't forget what I said; never trust a jedi. You know what they did."

"I won't." I bit on my lip. Aidan hesitated while glancing at me confusingly but then took off together with Eugene.

Obi-Wan broke our eye contact to watch my brother fly away, followed by the gryphon carrying Eugene. "No matter how much I enjoy being at the end of your sword, my darling, I would like to get up now. My knees are starting to ache." He smirked at me.

I snarled and angrily put my free hand on his shoulder while my sword remained on his neck, bowing down till our faces were only a few inches apart so I could narrow my eyes at him threatingly.

"I am not your darling, jedi, nor am I your prisoner anymore." I growled. "The only reason you're still alive is because I know you were holding back. Unlike you, I only want to win with a fair fight."

Obi-Wan raised his eyebrows at me, seemingly not faced by my threatening appearance. "That's your excuse?" He huffed and smiled slightly. "I must say, you are one of few who were able to defeat me."

He chuckled and then remained silent, watching me as I was contemplating on what to do. "We can still work this out together, Lyanna." His eyes turned softer. "Although convincing Anakin would take some effort."

"You ruined that chance after refusing to give up that weapon." I stepped back but let my sword remain on his neck. "No, I'm going to leave. As you said before, we are enemies. We will act as such."

Obi-Wan sighed deeply. "Lyanna-"

"Obi-Wan!" I turned to see Anakin in the doorpost and heard his saber igniting immediately after seeing what was happening. "Get away from him, now!"

"Anakin! Don't!" Obi-Wan tried to warn him but was too late, I knocked him back and jumped on the balustrade of the balcony, unwrapping my wings from my back.

"Next time we see each other, Obi-Wan Kenobi," I turned to look at him standing up before I flew off. "Don't hold back, because I surely won't hesitate like I did."
