As my lips touch Roman’s I feel his sharp intake of breath. His mouth tastes just like I had imagined. I can taste the faint hint of mint on his tongue as he opens his mouth and kisses me. Really kisses me. His warm tongue runs along mine and I can feel his tongue in the corner of my mouth. My entire body feels like it’s been ignited; I have never felt like this before. He brings his hand to my face, cupping my flushed cheeks, before both of his hands go to my hips. He pulls back a little and plants a small kiss on my lips. “Cami,” he breathes out, then quickly brings his mouth back to mine, his tongue sliding in once more.
Roman pulls me by my hips closer to him as he lies back on the bed, never breaking our kiss. Unsure of what to do with my hands, I put them against his chest, and then climb onto his torso. His skin is hot and his chest is moving up and down with his rapid breaths. He pulls his mouth away from mine and I whimper at the loss of contact, but before I can complain he’s at my neck. I feel every swipe and lick his tongue makes. His breath moves across me. He grabs hold of my hair to keep my head just above his as he continues to kiss my neck. His teeth graze my collarbone and I moan, the feeling shooting down my whole body when he begins gently sucking on my skin.
I push him away slowly and lock gaze with him. We are both out of breath, staring at each other. "We...um..we can't," I whisper.
He smiles and reach to caress my cheek with the back of his hand. "I know," He grins. "And we can't because this isn't real.”
I frown. "What isn't-" that's when everything starts to make sense, things I hadn't noticed before like how I'm in my new room and suddenly missing Roman because he isn't here with me. "Roman? Rom–"
The outburst of fire with no source and origin alarms me.
Where is the fire coming from?
I jump out of bed and run to my door on instinct. Holding the door knob, I pull it hard enough to break the handle but breaking it is the least of my worries.
"Let me out!" I bang the door aggressively. "Dean!" I scream loud, calling the headmaster by his first name. "Let me the fuck! Can anyone hear me? Let me out!”
The door just rattles at my impact but won't open, realizing I'm trapped and don't have enough time to make an escape, I turn around and press my back against the door, watching as the fire spreads around the room with the knowledge of what will happen next.
"Camille!" I feel a hand shaking my shoulder frantically, my eyes snaps open to meet the headmaster's brown eyes.
I pull the blanket away and move to the headboard of the bed, curl in a tight ball. I can feel tears streaming from my eyes, and the fear is still lingering in me even after knowing it was a dream. A nightmare. I can't help but surrender to my fears.
No. No, no, no, no, no! This cannot keep happening. This cannot keep happening to me. Each dream is so similar and yet very different. One might think I've dreamt enough about fires to know when I'm dreaming, but no, I never know. It's always so original.
"You are okay now." The headmaster calms me, giving me assurance that nothing can harm me here. He doesn't know how many times I've heard my dad tell me the same thing and each time I have my nightmare I think about how no one can truly save me from this curse because to me it is a curse.
I'm still a little bit shaken from the terrible dream and show it by shaking my head frantically. "No, no, no-" I shut my eyes and look around the room. "No fire."
It's happens like this when I have nightmares in the night. I find it hard to separate the dream from reality.
The look on the Headmaster's face tells me he knows one or two things about my predicament. He looks at me with a sympathy, which only confirms how pathetic I am.
"Yes, Camille, no fire, it was just a nightmare." He assures me. It's not like I need the assurance, I know it was a nightmare. I can't help but think something isn't right.
I sigh in relief and nod. "Just a nightmare, just a nightmare." I repeat and continue until I'm mentally and physically okay.
My eyes finds the Headmaster's again. I'm curious as to why he's here. His room is at the top floor, he uses the whole floor and from what I heard it's sound proof, even if it wasn't I'm at the first level and he's at the fifth. How did he hear me and the rest of the staff didn't? Because he's the only one here.
"What are you doing here?" I ask.
He scratches the back of his head, which makes me wonder what else I did. I mean I haven't done anything apart from what I've previously done like punching the hell out of Penelope and doing magic with Roman, and the kiss. Shit! The kiss. The fucking kiss that shaped how I spent the rest of my day yesterday. Was that why I had a dream about making out with Roman before my room started burning? It just occurred to me now that I've never been able to identify anything or anyone familiar in my dream but somehow I saw this room and Roman. Should that tell me something? It's probably a coincidence but I don't believe in coincidence.
It's just a nightmare, Camille. I note to myself mentally.
"Your scream woke the whole school, Camille." He informs me.
I raise my eyebrows up. "I woke the whole school as in metaphor?"
"As in you woke the whole school: the students, and you brought down the school magic defense system." He tells me.
What?
"Oh."
"You've been screaming for almost an hour, Camille. At first I thought I was dreaming but then my son– someone came to get me and I heard it. What were you dreaming about, Camille?"
"I can't remember," I lie like I always do when it come to talking about my dreams. "What did you mean when you said I've been screaming for hours? It didn't feel like that in my dream." I mean I could have sworn I was just dreaming for just five minutes, ten max.
"I had to order the students to go back to bed. The entire school was shaking, I was afraid you were going to bring it down. So I ask, what exactly was your dream about?"
I pull my leg to my chest and bury my face in it. "I already told you, I can't remember."
He squints, obviously doesn't believe me. "When did it start?" I thought he was going to let it go.
I groan, raising my head to look at him. "Since forever and it's always about–" He cut me off.
"Fire." He runs his hand through his hair. "Meet me outside in front of the lake tomorrow morning as early as possible." He definitely isn't requesting.
I'm tempted to ask how he knew I always dream about fire but will keep it for another time.
"You guys have a lake? And I thought I have seen everything." I whisper and lick my lips before asking, "the magic defense of school?"
He nods. "Is back online. You need to learn control. That's why your parents brought you here and it's time you start. I will start with the basic tomorrow, get some sleep," He gets up from the bed and stare down at me. "Camille," He calls me and I look up to meet his gaze. "Please be there."
I nod. "Sure." I resist the urge to roll my eyes. It's not like I have a choice.
I watch him walk out and close the door behind him. I close my eyes and sigh, wrapping my arms around myself. Can't help but to think about what he said, about waking the students and almost bringing down the buildings. It's not certain that I'm the one doing it but the headmaster seems to think it's me. Hypothetically speaking, if it was indeed me doing it then I need to get control because my powers are getting stronger. At home it was just little things like light bulbs and windows, and now it's just–
"Cold?" I yelp at the sound of a familiar voice. A chill runs through my spine, and Goosebumps erupt in my arm and neck.
"Do not sneak up on me like that, I just had a freaking nightmare," I whine. "And I'm guessing you didn't leave when others left?"
Roman has a way of sneaking up with people, the guy creeps me out. I'll say I'm surprised to see him here after I all but jumped his bones, I know it was the stupid magic because I can't ever imagine kissing him now or ever again.
"I couldn't stay away," He answers. He is always forward about what he wants.
Which reminds me, I didn't hear my door open after the headmaster left.
"How did you even-" He interrupts my question.
"Invisibility spell," He shrugs and walks towards me.
I nod. "Right..." Dragging out the word before noticing something stupid and decide to ask about it. "Do you ever change your clothes?" I ask curiously. Unless he owns more than a thousand school cardigan and pant.
"When I bath." He replies.
I sniffle my nose in an annoying way. "Might be time," I tease as he stands beside me.
He rolls his eyes. "Scoot over," He demands and I shift for him a little. "Are you okay?"
I shake my head. "Honestly," I sigh and look at him. "I'm not sure. How loud was I?"
"Pretty loud." He answers.
"I don't know what's wrong with me."
He smiles. "Nothing is wrong with you, Camille. You are just a little out of control because you had no one to teach you, and now you are here, you'll learn."
"Right." There we ago with the 'control' and 'power'.
I bring my hand up to rub my face when I notice something, I can't make out what it is because it's already fading but it looks like it's a burning-
I reach for my necklace and compare. "It is exactly the same," I whisper. The symbol on my hand is exact symbol on my pendant.
"What?" Roman who isn't concentrating ask.
I show him my palm. "Look."
He blinks his eyes. "What am I looking at?"
"What do you mean what are you looking at? Can't you see-" I stop talking when I take a look at my palm and realize that the symbol is gone. "I swear it was-" I sigh and cover my face with my hand.
Now I'm seeing things. Great! It's official, I'm going crazy.
"Camille, you had a long day and having a nightmare wasn't really helpful, why don't you lie down and sleep."
He has a point though.
"I don't think I can go back to sleep and it's Cami," I tell him. Not even sure I want to sleep again.
He removes his hand from my shoulder to remove his boot, he guides me down like a baby, and get in bed with me.
"Styl Yan ollonan," He whispers. I'm not sure what type of spell he just casted but I'm sure it's not a sleepy spell.
Spoke too soon.
"Wow," I whisper absent-mindedly when my room changes from a dorm room to outer space. "How did you do it?" I ask as I admire his work.
The stars look so close and they are beautiful.
"It's an Illusion spell." He whispers.
I stay on my side and make sure not to touch him. "You have to teach me how to cast all these spells."
"One step at a time, now, hush and get some sleep." He whispers as his hands finds way to my forehead. Him whispering something is the last thing I hear before sleep consume me.
