It's no use explaining myself and I don't bother because I'm pretty sure he saw the whole thing. The Headmaster demands I follow him to his office and ask the rest of the students to carry on with their day after Alyssa and the third girl took Penelope to the infirmary.

The twin sends me a sympathetic look as I follow behind the Headmaster. I don't know much about him and no one has told me anything, but I know I'm not getting out of this situation without a warning or worse, detention.

The Headmaster enters his office and step back for me to enter while holding the door for me, I go in and stand. He closes the door and goes to sit behind his desk.

"Take a seat, Camille." He orders, his voice not welcoming and friendly as it was the first day I met him.

I do as he says and pull a chair for myself to seat, all ready to face my judgement.

"We don't tolerate any kind of violence here at The Vale Academy..." I tune him out after that because I've heard this lecture my whole life from my teachers, principals, parents. I'm used to it and probably have a good idea of what he's saying.

I tune him in moment later because I realize Headmaster Wallace doesn't know me, he might have some more things to add to the growing pile of criticism.

Frowning as I listen to him lecture me, he hasn't stopped talking for almost ten minutes, and I'm starting to get annoyed.

Yeah, yeah, yeah I know I messed up. I shouldn't have punched her in the face on my third day or any other day, but I'm supposed to ignore what she did. I needed her to know who she was dealing with, and I'm sure she gets the point now, it's sad that it took a punch to jaw to make her realize it.

"...detention–" I interrupt him immediately my brain picks the word.

"Did you just say detention? You can't do that." I tighten my grip on the arm of the chair and lean towards him.

"I can and I just did." His voice is firm and full of confidence, this is why I hate authorities, they think because they have the power to order people around that they are more than they are.

"What about Penelope?" I ask. It can't be only me that's getting punished, she should get the bigger punishment because she pushed until I couldn't take it anymore.

He raises his eyebrows in question and close the book he was skimming. "What about her?" He drops the book on the desk and leans closer. "I find it odd that you want to know about the girl you injured."

As if.

"Actually I was asking if she's also getting a detention."

He scoffs, obviously not expecting that. He thinks I care. "Yes but you and Roman will be cleaning your new room." He declares.

I furrow my brows in confusion. "My new room?"

He nods and adjust his tie. "Yes, your new room. Your father called and told me you don't like sharing your space, you should have told me."

"He did?" I try not to sound surprise even though I am. I haven't spoken to my parents since I got here even though dad calls and messages me all the time. I'm still processing how mom was able to convince him that this place is the best place to send me. Anyway, "He is right, I hate sharing my space, and Alyssa isn't the most friendly person I can tolerate." I tell him. "I'm confused though, I thought I can't have everything I want, somehow it the exact opposite that is happening."

"We love to make our students comfortable, and Alyssa's sister will be joining us tomorrow," He announces. "I think it's best her sister stays with her."

Better late than ever. So that's the real reason.

"Why Roman? I can clean a room by myself."

I have some questions I want to ask him but he is avoiding me for some reason. He already thinks I'm trouble and an attention seeker, so us cleaning a room together might just start a conflict.

"You can't do this by yourself." He murmurs to himself before clearing his throat. "Let me give you a brief introduction to covens, as you know I will be taking your Witchcraft 101 class." He chooses this time to inform me.

First of all, I haven't agreed to take witchcraft classes and now I'm supposed to be listening to the headmaster rant about witches and covens.

"All the witches in this school belongs to a coven, you know what a coven is right?" He asks.

I am not that dumb, of course I know what a coven is.

He passes the book he was reading to me, Hexcraft is boldly printed on it. Isn't Hexcraft the practice, art or skill of casting hexes and spells? I carry the heavy book and open the first page, a pentagram is the first thing that I see. I know pentagram are often referred to as witch sign but this just brought a whole new meaning to shapes and symbols.

"I know what a coven is, are you in one?" I ask curiously before closing the book. Leave me to study when I'm in the library.

"No."

I raise my brows. I thought all witches or wizards belongs in a coven. "Why?"
I know it's none of my business but I want to know.

"Because I'm not a wizard." He admits.

"Oh," I sound surprised. "Okay, so... if you are not a witch, what are you?"

He shakes his head and chuckles. "Can we get back to this please?"

I growl lowly. "By all means, hit me," I roll my eyes, crossing my legs before reclining on the chair.

He frowns as if what I said was offensive. "I would never hit you, Camil-" I cut him off with scoff.

"I know, it's just a slang." I assure him.

How old is this man? He doesn't even know when I'm joking. I bet he has never smoked pot or gotten drunk in his life, honestly when I first met him, I thought he was a shit behind the suit.

He sighs in relief. "Okay," He says as he adjust himself on his chair. "Thirteen students represents each coven."

Nice, good to know. "Okay, so does that mean that there are thirteen covens?"

He shakes his head. "No, there are twelve covens, and each covens are unique in there own ways," He explains and I nod, indirectly giving him a go ahead.

"Brianna and Ariana represent the Gemini Coven and are the coven leader because they are from–"

"Hey! Gemini, because they are twins. Is that their zodiac sign?"

He chuckles. "Yes and yes." He answers.

I smile. "See, I know stuff." I reply playfully as I raise my right leg and place it on his desk.

He chuckles before his gaze drops on the foot resting on his table. He shakes his head and push my leg away from his desk, and frowns.

"This behavior is not acceptable. You can't just place your leg on my desk, I'm the–" I cut him off before this turns into something more.

"I'm sorry. I don't know why I did it. It was stupid and I apologise." The apology is sincere but I want to know how he'd react to it.

"It's okay. Don't do it again."

I grin because I know I'm getting to him.

He continues with his explanation. "The covens are arrange in hierarchy, the power flows in the chart-"

"I don't understand what you are trying say, can't you just use examples," I shrug. Examples are always the best.

He sighs and nods. "Okay, the witches from the Scorpio Coven are the most powerful while the witches of the Gemini Coven are the least powerful because they cannot cast a spell or use magic without each other." He explains.

I nod in understanding. "Explains why Ari and Brie are always together, are the witches from the Gemini Coven always creepy, you know, like the creepy twins?"

He chuckles. He sure do keep a happy mood. "They are not creepy, and not all Gemini witches behave like that, Brianna and Ariana are just..." He struggles for the right word. "Special in their own way."

"So the Covens are named after their birthday and zodiac sign?" I ask curiously. It is one of the stupidest thing I've ever heard in my entire life. It's like the whole magical system is nothing but a big fat joke.

He nods. "Yeah, and I don't know how they got it. Like how Ariana and Brianna represent the Gemini Coven, Penelope represent the Cancer Coven, Alyssa the Virgo Coven, you don't know the remaining students but I'll tell you the names of the Covens-"

"I know the zodiac signs, thank you, you don't have to.. What about me, I'm born on the sixteenth of November. Does that make me a witch from the Scorpio Coven?" I ask curiously.

He laughs and shakes his head. Well I don't see the humor in this. "You don't belong to any Coven."

Okay now I'm confused. I know I'm not a witch or anything, but he's convinced I'm something, so why the hell am I not in a fucking coven?

I frown. "Why? I thought you said all witches-"

"Yeah all witches but you aren't just a witch." He tells me.

Did I just hear him say I'm not just a witch? Like I'm a witch and something else?

Three days ago I didn't know I had powers or even have powers. I still don't believe that this place is filled with people with powers. Except from Roman's telepathic display and tripping from Penelope's trip spell, I haven't see any display of real magic.

My mouth drops open. "Say what now?"

"You are a part witch, I'm still figuring the other part." He informs me.

That's convenient.

"I thought powers are pass down, does that mean my parents are witches?"

"Trust me Corinne and Richard are very much human, but if you are a witch, you'd be in Roman's Coven, the Scorpio Coven."

Why am I afflicted with Roman?

"Oh, I know Corinne and Richard are human. You know I'm adopted right? They aren't my real parents. Wait, does that mean my real parents are witches and something?"

I never once thought about my real parents because I appreciate what my adopted parents is doing for me even though I'm a fucking headache. The point is they never cross my mind, my real parents. I never wonder about them. Is it weird that I'm just thinking about how someone gave me up?

"Could be." He answers but his eyes seems dead. Gone like his thought are far away.

"Okay, who else is a Scorpio?"

He sighs. "It's just Roman in the school, which is why I've asked him to mentor you."

"Okay." I'm curious about what's inside the Hexcraft. "Can I keep this?" I touch the Hexcraft.

He reaches for it. "Come get it after detention." He reminds me.

Detention, I almost forget about that.
"You need to work on your control. I don't know why you haven't sensed your powers yet but trust me, Camille, you have." He tells me, "anyways," He snaps his fingers and stand up. "You should join Roman and I in morning training, you'll learn stuffs."

"You want me to join you two in training, I think it's a very bad idea."

Bad in the sense that I don't like waking up early to do any exercise. I'm lazy to the core.

"Good!" He claps his hand like he didn't just hear me decline his offer. "Now go serve your detention."

I pout. "Do I have to?" I whine.

He nods. "You punched a student, Camille."

I roll my eyes. "Don't remind me. She was being mouthy and a bitch."

"Like I said earlier, Camille, we don't tolerate the use to such languages. And I know what kind of person Penelope is. You can go now."

He whistles and his door opens revealing Roman.

"Headmaster Wallace." He greets.

"Hey Roman, like we talked about. Camille." I look between the two guys and shake my head.
