C54
Even though we lost Sebastian and George in the end, we still won because seeing as how we have all of their wild cards, I don't think either of them would be disturbing us any time soon.
We won. I won. I got everything I wanted. I defeated the high lord. My parents are back, alive but not quite well but they're back. So why do I still feel like this is just the beginning?
My mind is my most powerful weapon and it has never wronged me. Now it's telling that something is coming, something big. It's a silly thought, I know since we've dealt with all my problem but I can't shake the feeling.
Everything is over now and it feels boring, no puzzles to solve, no looking over my shoulder, no trouble. I miss being paranoid. My heart doesn't feel as ever heavy anymore and it's a good thing, but it was for almost three months, so how do I deal with it?
Everyone is back in empty school, the headmaster said he'd send words to the parents for the immediate resumption for the students. Nate and Jessica are in the infirmary, getting treatment. They seemed fine at the end of the fight but injury ran deep. Nate fractured his ribs and fingers while Jessica's skull cracked a little from the impact of when the creature threw her against the wall. She should have healed on her own but the magic she used was too much, which blocked her from healing. But it's all good Nurse Grady assured us they'll be fine in no time.
I took the biggest hit but somehow I feel perfectly fine, just tired and relieved. There's just one more mystery to solve. Marco Arihmatheo. He wanted me to remember a spell, I do remember it but I'm not sure what'll happen if I say. Arihmatheo is so many things, a devious, cunning bastard topping the list. What if he knew he was going to die and the spell is the way to bring him back? I'm a very curious person and George mentioned somethings about him that I'd like to confirm. I mean, what's the worst thing that can happen?
Unwrapping my arms around my legs, I sit criss cross and stare at the fire burning in the fireplace, I've been sitting here since I came from visiting Nate and Jessica in the infirmary. Doing the–
"What are you doing?" I yelp at the sound of the familiar yet unwanted voice.
I turn my head to glare at him. "What the hell, Nate? You scared me." He's leaning casually against the doorframe, looking good as new. "What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be at the infirmary?"
He shrugs and dip a hand into his pocket, he leans away from the doorframe and stalk towards me. "I'm too pretty to be locked down," he jokes and I cock my eyebrows, not in the mood for his jokes. "Nurse Grady discharged me."
"What about Jessica?"
"She's fine but Grady wants to observe her overnight. She's never experienced magic block before, she wants to know how long it would take before Jessica can heal herself again. It's a load of shit if you ask me, she should leave my girl alone." He stops in front of me and asks, "what are you doing here? You should be resting after everything."
He's right, I should be on my bed sleeping but I can't. I'm exhausted mentally, physically and emotionally but I know I won't sleep until I know what Arihmatheo's spell mean. And it's a good thing Nate is here.
"Hey, Nate. Are you tired?"
"Why?" He asks, his voice laced with curiosity.
"I need your help with something."
"I smell a mystery," he smiles and squats down in front of me. "What do you need? Tell me it's as to do with magic."
I nod and he yells 'yes' like what happened today hadn't. "When Arihmatheo's had me in chains, he was threatening me but he told me to say a spell if I survived. I don't know what the spell does, he didn't give me a clue either, he just asked me to say and I was thinking about saying it now. What do you think?"
Nate sits on the floor and thinks about it. "Personally I think you shouldn't do it because I've seen the man three times and none was under good circumstances. He tired to kill Jessica and he almost killed you. You should erase that spell from your mind but I know you, so... What do you think?" He throws my question back at me.
"I spent sometimes with him and I know there's more to him than he let on. He was the one that convinced George to spare my life. I need to know what the spell means." I tell him.
He looks like he has something to say but he sees my face and keeps his opinion to himself. "Okay. By all means."
"All right, I'll say the spell. Erk toh." I say the spell.
Nate eyes widens. "Did you just say what I think you said?"
"How should I know what you think I said? I said Erk toh and nothing is happening." I complain.
"That spell is a mem–"
I gasp and my eyes widens as I'm being thrust into an active portal but I know it isn't a portal because I can hear different things from all around. It's like I'm drowning in memories. I can hear hear everything: voices, scream, cries, argument. I raise my hand up and scream for anyone to reach for me. "Make it stop, please." I place my hands on my head and shout. "Please, make it stop. Make it stop!" My body slam down on the ground. I groan and roll on my back. "I didn't not miss this feeling at all," I manage to say and peel my eyes open.
Where am I?
I blink at the inside of what looks like a crystal cave and all around is screens playing different things. I move to stand with my mouth wide open. I'm in a memory box and each screen is labeled.
Why would Arihmatheo send me into his memories? He's dead, should this even be active. Should I even have access to a dead man's memory.
I'll just look around and see if there's an escape route. I'm not interested in his memories or whatever he's gone through.
Just when I'm about to begin my search for the escape route, a particular screen catches my eyes. A familiar face is what makes me move forward and click on the screen. The screen becomes large and turns black. The words MY MEMORY REGARDING SABINE MARIE HOLMES appears before showing anything.
What the hell?
It begins with a boy who doesn't look more than eleven years, he's standing in front of hardware store, staring hard at something or someone I couldn't tell until someone comes out of the hardware and bump into him on their way, he almost fell but he quickly regain his footing and looks forward at a girl of the same age dancing the rain. It's obvious that the girl is Sabine from the words I saw before the video began and the boy is Marco, a very young Arihmatheo.
I frown, wondering why he wants me to see this. I figured he knew her from the time he made me watch she and Eric from his memory.
His first memories of her comes to an end when the high lord comes out of the breakfast shop opposite the hardware. He looks exactly the same. Same cane, suit, hairstyle. It's like the man never aged. Anyway, the girl stops dancing when she sees George and runs to him. He opens his arms wide open as she jumps on him. He spins her around. The both of them laughing.
It's really weird to see George like this. Happy with the daughter he almost killed.
The memory changes to an older Marco, now working at the Holmes' company, watching Sabine brushing her hair. The next set of memories shows the both of them become friends and how close they are. It's obvious from the second memory that Marco is in love with Sabine. It keeps going until a particular memory shows where they both share a kiss. Both twenty one and Marco has been assigned as her personal guard. He's happy and goes home to prepare a speech on how to ask her out. The next memory shows him clutching blue irises, waiting for her in the woods where they mostly hangout but when she arrives, she isn't alone. There's another guy with her, Eric. I almost feel bad for Marco when he drops the flower and leaves the scene.
The next set of memories are a fucking torture for him. He is Sabine's guard, so he follows her all the time. He watch her and Eric fall in love. Even though they still remain friends, it's still weird for him.
It's no surprise that he hates Eric. He eavesdrop on one of their conversation where Eric admits that he isn't from Earth and all the terrible things he's done. Marco expect Sabine to hate him after but she does the exact opposite. So he tells the high lord about it out of jealousy.
He leads the troop that goes to retrieve Sabine after she got pregnant and ran from home. That is the time Sabine tells him she hates him and will never forgive him. Her words hurt him but he doesn't show it. He capture Eric for the high lord to kill but something changes for Marco when he sees how the sisters of the dark forced her to give birth. He knows the plan is to kill the baby but he couldn't, he loves Sabine too much. He defy the high lord and save the baby. With Eric out of the picture, he thinks he might have a chance of getting with Sabine but she becomes worse. Trauma from the birth and losing Eric the same night.
It doesn't take long for the high lord to find her again. Marco takes her back to her father's house for the hell her father has prepared for her. He knows he couldn't stand by and watch him hurt the woman he loves, so he cast a spell on her. Keeping her trapped in the past so she wouldn't feel the pain her father will inflict on her. Even though she seems physically present her mind, heart and memories are in past. She is living in the past.
He begins to look for a way to break whatever the high lord done to her. He goes deep into old black magic but it isn't enough. He learns that only a sage mage can undo the spell and that's why he goes for Jessica. He is going to absorb her power and use it against the high lord but I arrive in time to stop him. He sees another opportunity by taking me to the past and showing me my parents to make me angry so I can get enough reason to end the high lord. He wants me to get stronger and it works.
The last memory shows Marco going to visit Sabine the day of his death. He stands out her room and stares at her. She's laying lifelessly on the bed with her ankles and wrist tied.
"I'm sorry, Sabine. I'm so sorry. Everything is going so wrong. I'm still looking for a way to undo that spell your father casted. I hope you know trapping in the past is the only thing keeping you alive. And for what it worth I'm sorry for everything I did to your beloved and your little girl. You see, Cami isn't like anyone I've seen before. Not like you, although she has your rebellious spirit. Definitely not like that bonehead Eric. She's strong and I have no doubt that she's the one that'll set you free. I love you, Iris. I hope you can forgive."
The screen goes black and the words 'Er ti' is on it.
I sigh and whisper. "Er ti."
I go out the same way I came in. Screaming and shouting.
Opening my eyes in front of Nate. "Fuck! That was one hell of a ride. I saw his memories. I saw all his memories."
That didn't just happen.
Nate nods, giving me a sympathetic smile. "I tried to tell you. Are you having a migraine? Its a common side effect."
"He was never a villain at least not the main one." I mutter and move to stand up.
"What? What did you say?" He asks.
"I'll be back, I need some water." I answer.
"Be careful, you might feel–" I fall back down, my eyes closing. "-dizzy."
I open my eyes and glare at him. "Can you like say these things before I do them."
"Sorry." He raises his hands up in surrender.
"Anything else I should know."
He shake his head. "Nothing."
Good.
It takes me a while before I can get up again. I give Nate a look from the corner of me eye before walking to the dorm kitchen. To my surprise, I see Damian leaning against the fridge, sipping coffee.
"I wasn't expecting to see you here, I thought you were gone." I say as I tuck my hair behind my ear. Taking my time to walk to the counter, I pull a stool and sit on it. Damian watching my every move.
"Gone where?"
I shrug. "I don't know, wherever it is you disappear to," I reply casually. "Can you pass me a bottle of water?"
He leans away from the fridge and turn to open it, he brings out a bottle of water and closes the fridge before passing me my water. I collect it from him and undo the cap and drown my inside with the chilled water.
"He loved her." I break the silence after some minutes.
Damian's hand hangs in air steam coming from the mug. He meets my gaze and say, "I know."
So many thoughts run through my mind. How did he know what I was referring to? I wasn't asking a question, I was just trying to wrap my head around it and the words sort of came out. But he knows?
"Know what?"
He breaks eye contact and takes a sip from the mug, his Adam's apple move as he swallows. "Marco loved Sabine."
My lips parts with no words. What the hell? How the fuck did he know? I didn't even see Damian in his memories, and to think of it, he knows so many things, even things I never expect him to know.
"You knew, this whole time you and your dad knew?" I just need more confirmation.
He nods. "We did. I know everything, Camille. Everything."
I shake my head in disbelief. "You knew and didn't say anything. I needed answers so badly, I was in desperate need of your help and you knew everything. Why didn't you–?"
"You figured everything out in the end, didn't you?" I open my mouth to argue but he continues. "This is bigger than me and my dad. We were asked not to interfere. You think you've defeated your demons, Camille but that was just the beginning of what's coming. Your life, your purpose is just beginning."
What is he talking about?
"What does that mean?" I demand.
He leans away from the fridge and says, "get some rest, you look tired." He heads for the door.
"Fuck you! Fuck you and your dad." I call after him.
"See you tomorrow."
What is this?
