C13
“Camille!” The Headmaster's voice comes echoing in my ear from behind. "Camille!" He calls my name again with the same firm and deep tone he used the first time.
“What is it?” I ask, trying to gain control of myself.
I see the headmaster move to my front and slaps his hands on either side of my head, forcing me to look into his eyes as he begins the spell. His eyes changes from his usual hazel to hallow like I'm being thrust into another world. His voice becomes distant but I can hear it faintly.
“Ere eketa engji ya va Lurytendra El Ulrik El Noe El, Camille Raven Stark, I beseech you, stop this Now!” I hear him shout the last part and at the same time I see something, not sure what it is but I can make out a figure who says, 'well done blood of mine.'
I inhale sharply as I feel something leave my body. The headmaster let's go of me and I stagger but quick to regain my footing. Blinking as I come back to my senses; I look around to see the damages I have caused. I wasn’t myself, I know that but somehow I loved what I was doing.
Well done blood of mine.
What does that mean? It sounded like a feminine voice but not familiar. What is going on with me?
I see the students all holding hands, casting some spells, I can’t hear what they are saying, but out of nowhere fog suddenly covers the entire school.
“What is going on?” I ask no one in particular. They are all busy doing something with the weather.
“They are making them forget what you did,” the headmaster answers beside me. I look at him but he doesn't make eye contact, he's just staring in to space and I don't have to look into his eyes to know he's disappointed. I have some questions to ask him though because his spell caused this.
The fog clears from the school and everything becomes normal again. Xander and his friends are still laughing like nothing happened, it's like they turn back the time and return them back before the attack. I'm glad no one suffers any injury.
The students walk back to their seats, none of them are looking at my way. As if my display of power hasn't made me a freak enough, and now this. It seems almost like they are afraid of me.
What have I done?
I wish I had an explanation to what's going on but I have no clue. I don't even know where to begin and it sucks. I've been like this my entire life, not having a clue of what's going on but then it was easier to ignore it and take one thing at a time but now I can't ignore it because it's becoming more pronounced and each day is worse than the last. I need to start doing something. I need to start looking for answers, if only I knew where to start. I guess I just need to ask the right question, which is what exactly?
Deep breath, Cami. Deep breath...
“Headmaster-” he interrupts me before I get the chance to say anything.
“Save it for my office, Camille.” He walks away from me towards the students and address them. “I know you are all exhausted from the magic, we can either forfeit the game or continue playing, your pick?”
The player exchange looks, and the quarterback speaks for them. “We’ll continue playing,” Roman stands up, the rest follow behind. They all pass by me without sparing me a glance.
That is how bad my situation is. I am the only one left standing. “Cami.” I turn my head to sound of Jessica's voice. She rushes to stand in front of me and asks, “Hey, you okay?”
I raise my eyebrows in question. “What do you mean?” I ask with a chuckle. Of course I’m not fine but she doesn't need to know that. I'm just surprised she asked if I was okay. I mean, If she saw what I did, I know she’ll also be moving in the opposite direction. But thank God they made them all forget.
“I saw what you just did now, Cami. Are you a witch?”
Whaaaaaat?
My world is spinning, I feel like I'm being swallowed alive.
“Are you all powerful?” she asks again.
I do the next reasonable thing I can think of as I cover her mouth with my hand and pull her away from the crowd, I notice something on the back of my hand, it’s an arrow, it looks like a tattoo, and it’s already fading.
I mean I should get use to it now, even if it's an Illusion, I should know all these strange marks appear on my body whenever I do magic, and I don’t know what they mean. After what happened today, I don’t think I want to do magic again.
I slam her back on our bus, not easy enough to hurt her but hard enough to sting. “Why didn’t the Hocus Pocus work on you?” I ask.
“Hocus what?” She tries to play dumb.
I slam my hand on either side of her head. “Don’t FUCKING play dumb with me, Jessica. They wiped everyone’s memory of the incident.”
She furrows her brow “so that’s what that was about, I thought they wanted to make it rain,” she shrugs like it's everyday she see group of people do magic.
I slam my left hand in frustration, she jumps. “Why didn’t you forget?”
She shrugs. “I don’t know,” She denies, and I can tell she’s lying.
“Jessica, tell me the tru-“
“I swear I don’t know, I just wanted to ask why you didn’t tell me that was the real reason you transferred and please unblock my number.”
“I will, and I didn’t tell you because I don’t know how to tell you. It fucking sounds crazy. You see everything right now for me feel unreal and I need a fucking wake up call.”
She reaches her hand up and pushes my hand away, breaking the cage I made around her. “I don’t blame you, I feel that way sometimes. Can I come with you?”
I raise my eyebrows in question, “To The Vale?” She nods. “Are you fucking crazy? Have you not been listening to a word I just said? Fuck! I wish I could take you with me, Jessica. But that place isn’t for you, I’m still adjusting to life there."
God! I want nothing more than to shake her until she wakes to reality. It took me days to be convinced that magic is actually real and I'm supernatural. She is taking it to casual and that's making me worry about her sanity.
“Just promise to unblock my number and keep in touch.”
I close my eyes and let out a sigh. “Okay, fine, I promise."
She pulls me into a hug; I wrap my hand around her and sigh. “Keep in touch, Cami,” she whispers, her voice pleading. I find it weird.
We pull away and say our goodbyes. I don't bother to return to the game, I just step inside the bus and find the seat at the back. I didn't bring my phone, I really need to speak my dad and try to make sense of myself. The obvious question being: where did they adopt me? Maybe if I know who my parents are, I might find some answers to my questions.
Well done, blood of mine. I still can't get the voice from my head. What did she mean by that?
“Oh hey, Cams." Nate's annoying voice brings me back from my thoughts. "I almost didn't see you there."
I roll my eyes. “Can I help you with something, Nats?”
He shrugs and sits beside me. He smells like sweat. “Your friend is hot,” He says as he pushes his wet curls back.
I frown. “I know,” I answer.
"Are you okay, love?" He asks.
I roll my eyes and respond, "stop being cliche, Nathaniel. I know you Brits love to refer to call people–females 'love' but please don't ever call me that."
"All right sweetheart, I won't," he smirks, which soon disappears when he sees my face. He leans closer to me. “Look, you lost control and it's not the end of the world. Don’t worry about it, Headmaster Wallace won’t even punish you, at least no one died,” I know what he’s doing, he is trying to make me feel better, but I am not feeling it.
“They would have, if he hadn’t stopped me,” I whisper and cover my eyes with my hand.
“At least they won’t remember what happened,” He assures me.
Them not remembering is not the point.
I sigh. “But you guys remember, and now I’m the freak everyone's afraid of.” I can’t even recognize my voice.
“Look on the bright side, you were a total badass, I have never seen that happen with anyone. But are you okay? It seems like you weren’t you, I mean your hair changed color and your eyes, they were glowing, you were glowing.” He tells me.
"What?"
Did he just said that I was glowing?
He doesn't reply as the rest of the students begin to enter the bus. How long did the game last anywhere?
I want to ask Nate more questions about how I was during the moment but I see the look people are shooting him, no doubt for him sitting beside me.
I sit back and enjoy the silence as we ride back to school. I know as soon as we get back to school that I’m in deep shit. I don’t even wait for Dean to call me before going to his office.
