The Beginning
Waking up with a huge headache, I sat up and glanced across the cabin to see Nico was wrapped up in his blanket and still asleep. Shaking my head, I began to recall my incident last night with trying to figure out what happened with my hands and the effects the pups being bound to my body has on me, before being blinded with a violet light and slipping to unconsciousness.'What was that light,' I thought 'did I do that?' "That was my sister's light." I heard what sounded more like a growl then a whisper which startled me. Throwing my blanket to the foot of my bed, I saw all three puppies curled up next to me with two of the girls asleep and Alpha staring at me.
Quickly glancing at my forearm, there were no marks or signs that I ever had a tattoo. "How did you guys get out of my arm?" I whispered. "You forced us out when you use my sister's gift." "Mean that violet light? What was that exactly?" In response, Alpha put his head down...guess that was his response for not knowing. Hoping the book would tell me something, I lifted my pillow to see a thick black book slightly tinged with a violet glow in place of the tattered old journal. 'Where's my book?' I thought. "That smells like Marie. The light must of turned it into this." Alpha softly growled as he glanced over at Nico who shifted in his bed.
"Okay, I'll be right back." I told him as I got out of bed. "Make sure they don't do anything to ruin the place and I'm going to see if I can get any answers." Quickly changing my clothes into black skinny jeans, a grey T-shirt and my high tops before heading over to cabin twenty. Walking towards the rune covered cabin, I could see that there were way more campers here then yesterday meaning that summer vacation must have officially started. As I approached the cabin, the door flew open as one of the daughters of Hecate quickly ran out and grabbed me by my arm which startled me. "We knew it was only a matter of time before you came over." She whispered while pulling me inside.
Stepping inside, I felt a surge of energy as I saw that their beds were hovering over one another that gave the impression of a mystical bunk bed. In the back of the cabin was a book shelf from floor to ceiling filled with books, plants, and jars containing mysterious substances. In the center of the cabin stood a statue of hecate with three faces looking facing one section of the cabin and six pairs of arms with a thick column of mist pouring from their hands onto to floor, which made it seem like we were walking on clouds. The strange girl guided me across the cabin towards another girl who was sitting in a chair made out of the mist as she was staring deeply into her cupped hands.
Upon our approach, the girl looked up and dropped her hands revealing a small cloud of mist before it dissipated. "Glad you came." She said with a smile "I'm Lou, the cabins counselor." "Hi?" I said curiously. "Rose you can let him go." She said to the girl who blushed and quickly walked away. "Would you like a seat?" Looking around, I could see that there weren't any chairs or stools inside the cabin. "No thanks" I replied timidly "I just came here to ask if you know anything about a book transforming?" "You mean that old journal you keep under your pillow turning into the black book?" She asked with a smirk which made me feel very nervous.
"What?" I asked stupidly. "I've been keeping an eye on you, especially after our mother made it clear that you were hers. I'm not able to look into many cabins but I can see into yours." As she said this, she traced a circle into the mist on the floor causing the center of it to dissolve into what looked like a giant hole. Leaning over, I could see the inside of my cabin through the circular hole in the mist, in the cabin, Nico was still laying in bed while the three hell hounds were playing and jumping around on my bed before one let out a yelp with a bright violet light following behind it causing the window into the cabin to fade.
"So you've been spying on me?" I accused as I looked at her. "More like keeping an eye on you? Your new to the craft and I wouldn't want you to do something to hurt yourself." She informed "Anyway, your dog's seem very unique, especially the one that was able to close the window." "What do you mean, can't all hell hounds do something like that?" "Not even close." She said as she leaned back in her chair "I never heard nor read of one that can create jinx's. Especially one that can effect minor doorways." She gestured towards the cabin causing me to look around and see that the mist had the same tinge of violet in it that the book had. "It would be awhile till we are able to remove the jinx unfortunately."
"So the jinx can cancel out a spell?" I asked curiously as I looked back at Lou who smiled. "I can't tell you that, but if you were to join our cabin, we can teach you and share what we know." She said persuasively. "It would be so much easier to practice and learn spells in here then out there, even the basics." As she said this a chair materialized out of the mist. "Tempting offer but I'm not leaving Nico alone." I said as I walked towards the statue of hecate "Practicing in a group would be better and the spells would be stronger but I would like to see what I can do with my own power." Bowing down to the statue, I left the cabin and returned to my own to see Nico on the floor with two of the puppies on top of him and alpha on my bed watching them.
"I thought I told you to watch them?" I scolded Alpha as I tried getting the girls off of Nico who were licking and nipping him. "You said to make sure they don't do anything to ruin the place." Alpha replied as he turned his head to the side and raised his ears. Rolling my eyes, I was able to get both of them off of Nico and set them on my bed. "Thanks for the rescue." He said with a smile "Where did you go?". "Cabin twenty, I had to ask about this." I said as I walked to the head of the bed and pulled out the black book from underneath my pillow. "Whoa, where did you get that?" "Apparently I always had it, it was just in a different form." "What does the inside look like?" Nico asked curiously.
'Good question' I thought. 'Can you hear me?' I mentally asked Alpha but instead got three separate replies which means that he and his sisters were still connected to me. 'Okay, I need another dose of jinx. 'What's a dose?' Alpha asked. ''A little bit of something." I said unintentionally causing Nico to look at me funny. Smiling stupidly, I looked at the pup with the dark blue stripe and nodded signaling for her to let loose another one of those light blast. Wagging her tail, she let out a high bark followed by crescent shaped waves flying out of her mouth which hit the ceiling. The moment the violet waves hit the ceiling, the top of the cabin began giving off a violet glow as it quickly spread throughout the inside of the cabin before fading away.
"What in Tarturus!?" Nico exclaimed. "Karma can make and control jinx's I think." I informed him "Or at least that it what I got from talking with Lou and I found out that Ember has some thing over fire yesterday." As I said this, I can hear both of them laugh with joy over finally having a name which made me smile. Opening my book, I saw hundreds of letters and symbols fly and move across the page with some going into the spine where all the pages were connected to flying to the end of the page to appear on the next one. "How are you supposed to read that?!" Nico asked hysterically.
"I'll figure it out." I mumbled. 'I'm just looking for a spell to keep others from spying' I thought as I began catching familiar words flying across the page. As I began to stare at the pages, the words began to slow down as I was able to catch and read some of the words. 'blindness to those who spies?' I thought as I read the phrase. "Týflosi se ósous kataskopévoun" I whispered causing a thick mist to appear out from nowhere as it quickly filled the room before dissipating as fast as it appeared. "Blindness...your going to blind spies?" Nico asked as he was able to comprehend what I just said.
"It'll prevent anyone from trying to sneak a peak inside, besides there are way more spells and enchantments in here then there were in the journal so I have some reading to do." "Well can that wait till after breakfast?" The moment he mentioned breakfast, I realized that I completely missed out on dinner last night which only amplified how hungry I felt. 'Food!' I heard all three pups scream in my head. "Okay, let's go get something to eat." I said with a smile as I rubbed the top of Alpha head before he turned to a cloud of black smoke and dissipated over my forearm where there was now a tattoo of him. "So that's how I get you back into a tattoo." I said ecstaticly. Kneeling down, I reached out my hand towards Karma and Ember as they both turned into a cloud of black smoked and quickly surrounded my forearm before it too dissipated leaving a tattoo of a small pack of hounds.
With all three back in their tattoo form, their hunger added on to my own causing me to nearly collapse in pain. "Are you okay?!" Nico asked worriedly. "Fine, just extremely hungry."

Finishing breakfast, I left my table to go see what Adrien was up to since we had a great together watching the Apollo cabin perform at the amphitheater last night. Walking towards the cabins, I saw Chiron and Mr. brummel run across the field towards the woods where we had the game of capture the flag. Not caring to much of what was going on, I saw both Ash, Ben, and Ethan quickly heading towards the direction Chiron and Mr. Brummel ran off to. Unable to keep my curiosity at bay, I ran off towards that direction too to see what gotten everyone's attention.
Finally arriving at the forest, I was able to keep Ben in my sights due to him not being much of an athlete. As I caught up with him, I noticed that we were in an unfamiliar part of the forest that seemed darker then the rest of the forest with a huge mound of dirt. "What is that?" I asked out of breath. "It's the myrmekers nest, we need to go through." Ash replied as he looked up at it. "And what is that exactly?" I asked concerned. "They're giant ants." I heard a voice say behind me. Looking back, it was the girl who escorted Arch on our first day here.
"Only few people has access to the nest, but I can take you through it." She said as she began to quickly climb the mound. I really didn't want to come face to face with an ant but I didn't want Ben going in alone and knowing that I couldn't talk him out of this decided to go for it. Making my way up the ant hill, I quickly descended down and stuck close to Miranda as she quickly escorted us through the nest. As we traveled through the tunnels, I saw multiple tunnels branching off from the one we were currently walking on with small pockets of glowing moss here and there which allowed us to see.
Thinking that we were going to get out of this without running into one of those giant ants, a German Shepherd sized black armoured ant quickly crawled toward us as it began letting off a hissing sound which seemed to echoed throughout the tunnels. Fighting my urge to run away, I grabbed Ben's hand and squeezed it to reassure myself as the ant's antennae prodded Miranda as she used her body to block the ant from coming any closer to us. Seeing that it wasn't going to get past her, it turned into a tunnel and disappeared allowing us to quickly make our way back towards are previous journey.
Catching the glimmer of the suns light at the exit, we all sprinted out of the nest into open daylight to see that we were in a different part of the forest. Looking around, I noticed that all the trees were oak and that Chiron and Mr. Brummel were with Rachel who stood beside the biggest oak tree I've ever seen as it had a wind chime hanging from it's lowest branch. Jogging over to them, I could see from their faces that they looked deeply concerned causing me to take a look at the oak tree to see that there was a black rot slowly creeping up from the roots of the tree. "What's wrong with it" I asked "and what is this place?". This is the sacred Grove of Dodona and this is the eldest tree here." Chiron said sadly as Miranda quickly went over to the rot. "It seems that the magic here is fading to an unknown source." Mr.Brummel informed us.
"But I read that the grove was connected to Rhea... So does that mean...?" Ben asked as he left the question hang in the air. "No" Chiron said hastily "it seems that what ever force has created this rot is trying to cut the connection between Rhea and the Grove." "So what are you going to do about the grove?" Ethan asked as a strong wind blew through the grove causing the wind chimes to created its music. As the chimes chimed, Rachel eyes began to glow green as she began to speak
"child of war with love and nature
S
hall find the cloak when they venture
The pond of Union of brotherly peril
Will bypass uneasiness with a Carol
With life and a friend that has always been dissed
The one you've known shall be missed."
As she said this, I felt an uneasiness in the air as it felt as if there were two people talking instead of one. Feeling as if she was possessed, I tried to figure out what I should do to snap her out of it. "What's going on?" I heard Ben whisper before she continued.
"Harmony, death, and discord shall venture west
And arrive upon false festivities, fun and rest
Not all is what appears to be
For truth one with peace would see
For thunder is silent, empty and gone
The crown would show hidden from the sun"
As Rachel finished her last phrase, the green glow in her eyes faded back to its normal coloration as she began to look as if she was about to collapse. Sitting her down next to one of the oak tree Chiron looked at us. "It seems that you two have been chosen for a quest." Chiron said with a smile "two separate quest at the same time, its been centuries since this has happened." "So what do we have to do?" Ben asked curiously with a smile. "We shall first go back to the big house to discover what action is to be taken to prepare you for your quest." Chiron stated "Rachel, do you remember which person each prophecy was for?"
"It was for Ethan and Ben." She said tiredly as if announcing both of them drained her a bit. "Then it's settled, Ethan and Ben shall come meet me later to discuss how to start this prophecy and to best plan this out." Chiron said as he quickly headed towards the Myrmekers layer entrance as we all stood there. "What exactly is this quest" I asked a bit worried of what I may hear. "A quest is a sort of mission that I'd given by the Oracle as a challenge by the God's" Mr. Brummel replied " the Oracle speaks of a prophecy that outlines your mission and its your job to find out where to go and retrieve the item."
"So these items are going to help the trees?" Ash asked nervously. "They were told in a short period of time so I'm sure these items are important." Mr. Brummel confirmed "I'll take you all back to the big house, while Rachel and Miranda see what they can do to slow down the rot."
------------------------------------
Arriving at the big house I stuck close to Ben as he, Ethan, and I went towards the porch where Chiron was waiting for us. Leading us inside the house, we followed him towards a huge set of double doors and upon entering, there were several other campers waiting inside including Jason. Closing the doors behind us, all the campers walked over to a round table where we all could see eachother clearly and talk as Chiron repeated the prophecies to everyone that was there. "Sounds like the prophecies may refer to Rhea's cloak and crown." Annabethe stated after listening intently "If so, then it would make sense why both items are needed if her Grove is in danger.". "But we wouldn't know where to start." Ben pointed out
"That's part of the journey, to figure out the best place to start and to move from there." Jason said. "So you each are aloud to take up companions with you. It would be best to stick to three per group due to it being a lucky number." Percy informed us. "Okay, she said harmony, discord and death so I'll be taking Eve and Avery with me. It seems like the easiest choice to make." Ben said with a smile "But I'm also adding Ash to the group....just to have someone with experience out there with us.". "Alright then and you Ethan?" Chiron asked. "Adrian." Ethan said forcefully as he looked unhappy with his choice. "Why not take Arch with you too?" Ben suggested "Three is supposedly a big number so he could help.". 'Or be used as a shield' I thought as I tried to contain my laughter.
"Yeah, he may add an advantage for your quest." Percy suggested as he backed Ben's suggestion. "Sure why not, I've seen him practice now and then so it would be good to have him." Ethan said, agreeing to have Arch as apart of his team. "Well now that you've decided who'll you like on your quest, you all have till midnight tonight to prepare your things and leave for your quest." Chiron announced before we all left the room and exited the big house.

After spending my most of my day practicing the basic use of my whip with Willow, we decided to head back towards camp as the sun started to set set, where I saw Avery talking to a worried Nico. Unsure if I should go over there or not, I heard Ben call out my name by the hearth as he stood next to Eve and another guy who closely resembled Coal. Heading over, they greeted Willow and I as we got closer as well as introduced me to Ethan, before informing me of everything that happened earlier today. "I don't know if I'm the best choice, I'm not big on fighting." I pointed out. "But you could still be a big help." Ben said "Besides, you get to go out and help save the camp as well as explore the world if you're quest forces you to."
The thought of possibly being able to see the world and other locations did sound great. But the dangers didn't sound to good and the fact that the main people I knew we're all on one team didn't make things seem any better as well. "I'll go, but I want Willow to come too." I stated. Ethan who was quiet about the situation thought hard about it before shrugging his shoulders. "If she chooses to come then there isn't anything I can say or do otherwise. But it's her choice." He informed "We have till midnight to pack, prepare for our trip and head out." I turned to look at Willow who seemed a bit nervous which worried me. Looking at me, she smiled before telling us that she'll meet us at half blood hill.
With all of us deciding to meet up later, I headed towards my cabin where I saw Percy speaking to Syntrofos about something with a black Pegasus standing behind Percy. "What's going on?" I asked as I approached. 'Is this the guy boss?' I heard the Pegasus ask Percy who nodded. "So is talking and controlling horses apart of our thing?" I asked Percy as I felt a bit weird that I could hear the Pegasus too. Percy quickly shook his head no before speaking "We can talk to them but we don't have authority over them like my dad and/or your grandfather. We can speak to them and if they choose to, they can do as we ask but we can't force them." Nodding in understanding, I felt as if that it would be much better to have control over them...but communicating is better then nothing.
'I heard of the quest you've been put on to carry out.' Syntrofos informed me 'I wish you the best of luck.'. "You're not coming?" I asked him. 'I'll be watching.' he replied simply causing me to look at Percy for any sign of what I was supposed to do next. Shrugging his shoulders, he guided me into the cabin and help me figure out what would be best to take with me. "Do you know why Syntrofos is like that?" I asked him. "I'm sure he has his reasons." Percy suggested "he use to belong to your dad right? So maybe their it has something to do with that.". 'Maybe' I thought as I broke my staff down to it's two separate parts and put it into a backpack that Percy lent me with my clothes and whip.
"I believe I have everything I need." I said " I have clothes, weapons and bandages.". "What about your watch?" He asked as he pointed to my wrist watch that was sitting on the dresser table. "It's broken, but I guess it may provide some kind of luck." I stated while strapping it on my wrist. Looking at it, I could see the mini trident like hands were stuck at six o'clock. Wishing me luck, I shook Percy's hand as I exited the cabin to see that only the Pegasus was outside. Feeling a bit bad that he wasn't here to wish me luck or see me off, I continued my walk towards half-blood hill where the others were waiting.
