With the school bell screaming throughout the school signaling everyone to go home, I steadily trudged towards the library where Mr. Brummel held his after school detentions. Walking into the library, I sat down closer to the back at one of the four tables the library had. As I sat there, I glanced down at my bracelet to see that it was practical bronze with silver specks causing my whole mindset to take a negative turn. I've done everything to try to stop the change, I thought it was rust but my science teacher said that it could of been silver platted and was never actual silver so there was nothing I could do even though that didn't stop me from trying. Sighing in defeat, I looked up in time to see the others make their way into the library with Eve now wearing a pink T-shirt with a crop top jacket and blue jeans who was visibly upset about the situation as well as Ben and Archy looking a bit uncomfortable. Taking a seat at the same table I sat they seemed to be at ease seeing how calm I was about the whole situation.

"Where's Mr. Brummel" Archy asked. "He usually leaves his class a couple of minutes after the kids leave so he can make sure he gathered all of his things." Ben said looking around " I can't believe we got detention on the last week of school. " I grumbled as I glanced over at Eve. "Stop your whinnying, I could be at a party right now instead of in here with the rest of you." This wouldn't have happened if you weren't such a spoiled ..." And before I could finish my sentence, Mr. Brummel walked in with Ash following suit.

"I'm going to need you to move to a different table Avery" Mr. Brummel said. Trying to get through detention as fast as possible with as little issue or conflict as I can manage, I made my way to one of the other tables where Ash was sitting. "Now here are the rules" Mr. Brummel announced "There's no talking, no electronics, and if you need to use the bathroom then come up and let me know..are we clear?" We all nodded before he sat down and began grading some papers. With the clock ticking away above the library door, I watched as Ash took out a notebook and began writing in it. Glancing around I saw as Archy had pulled out a book from the fantasy section of the library while Ben pulled out a book about earth's wildlife and at the table sitting by herself, I caught Eve's eye as she was also looking around the library. The moment our eyes made contact her face cringed in a irritated expression before turning her back towards me, shaking my head I pulled out the book I found in Ms. Susan's attic.

Looking at the book, it had an old run down look to it, but it seemed interesting enough if it was hidden in the attic and locked. Looking at the lock, it was now a gleaming silver with no trace of it's coppery bronze color that it had before. 'Copper plated silver, you got to be kidding me.' I thought. Putting my hand on the lock and closed my eyes as I thought of ways to open it I felt the lock click as if the mini gears within it turned on it's own. Moving my hand, the clasp that was strapped over the book and was previously locked now flopped over onto the table. Feeling as if my heart was about to burst, I slowly opened the cover of the book to expect some secret diary entree but instead it was just some weird phrases and symbols.

Flipping through the pages of the book, all I saw were weird phrases and strange symbols with mini paragraphs underneath them, sketches of plants, objects and strange creatures which was barely legible due to the faded ink. 'Is this supposed to be a sketch book or a poem book' I wonder as I examined the book more in detail as I tried to figure out what all this could mean I heard a slight gasp come from across of me. Looking up, I could see that Ash was visibly upset by what I was reading.

"Where did you get that?" He harshly whispered as he leaned in to prevent Mr. Brummel from hearing him. Deciding to follow suit, I leaned in as well before answering him. "I found it in the attic, it looks like an old art book filled with sketches and poems or something. But it's not like I can read it or make out anything since majority of it is faded, if I had the right tools I may be able to fix it." As I explained it to him I heard a slight 'tink' sound with something hitting the table soon after. Looking at the table I saw my mom's bracelet laying there in two pieces causing what felt like my heart to drop. I felt as if my heart stopped and the world stopped moving as I grabbed both parts of my mom's bracelet. I didn't know what I should feel, I barely could remember her face but this was the last thing I had from her and now it's ruined....how could this have happened. As I sat their lost for words the lights went out causing the whole school to go dark before the emergency generator turned on the emergency lights.

Quickly standing up, Mr. Brummel looked around to make sure we were all here. "Mr. Brummel" Ash called out "I think it's time." Looking over at the clock, I could clearly see that we still had another hour left so it made me feel a bit confused. Usually Ash isn't one for lying unless it's necessary, so could it be that he's scared of the dark? "Calm down wuss!" Eve called out "just because the lights are off doesn't mean anything so stop being so scared." "Ash, you ok? I asked him as I tried to read his facial expression which was etched with fear. "I'm fine" he said nervously.

I looked over my shoulder at the table where Arch and Ben was sitting to see that they were looking over at us with concern. I was a bit worried but more for Ash's sake due to him being paranoid and how he'll react to anything out of the ordinary. Deciding to try to get back into the book, I began hearing giggling coming from out in the halls causing me to look at the doorway leading from the hallway into the library. Looking around, I could see that I wasn't the only one who heard it. Watching as Mr. Brummel stood up, he called Ash over to his table which he obeyed and quickly made it over to him with little to no trouble. Standing up to stretch I could see Eve looking down at her phone with an annoyed expression on her face. Letting her stew in what ever has her all fussy now, I headed over to Ben and Arch to see what they thought about the schools lighting.

"Hey guys," I whispered as I approached "I don't think the school payed the electric bill." "I doubt that's the case." Ben whispered as he glanced over at his sister. "She's throwing another hissy fit huh?" Arch asked Ben. "More or less." he replied. "But anyway, what were you reading Avery?" "I found a book in the attic and I finally got it open!" I said victoriously "There's some strange stuff inside, I think it used to be an art book or something but I'll show you."

Heading back towards the table I was sitting, the doors to the library flew open as Rebecca came in wearing her cheerleading uniform with Zack causing both Mr. Brummel and Ash to stare at them as if they were deer caught in headlights. "What are you two doing here, I told you I couldn't come out!" Eve scolded angrily bringing out her inner queen bee which caused me to roll my eyes in irritation. "We know, so we decided to bring the party to you." She smiled as the doors shut behind them. Watching them I could see as their figures started to become wavey and the air around them started to change into a smokey haze. Rubbing my eyes I willed myself to see through the smokey haze to see that standing in Rebecca's and Zack's place were two strange creatures.

With both of them standing around my height, these things were built with muscles and veins bulging underneath their dark orange skin which would put body builders to shame. At the end of each beefed up arm and leg were two claws as long as dinner knives which curved inward resembling hooks. Watching as their small beady eye scanned the room, the creature that was once Rebecca smiled showing a mouth full of sharp jagged teeth as it began smelling the air.

"Oh" she whispered in low growl "I smell not maybe 2 but 4 half-bloods. I wasn't sure about Ben but to my delight, we get him and two bonuses." At the the smoke that hung in the air around the creature vanished with a sound of Eve gasping following soon after. Glancing at the others, I saw that Eve was covering her mouth with her hands, Ben was standing as if ready to run with his chair on the floor while Arch was on floor with fear in his eyes. "You don't seem surprised" I heard one of the creatures which use to be Zack growl out. Turning towards them, I smiled. "I honestly thought I was loosing my mind or the stress of school was finally getting to me." I said relieved "I am both happy and terrified to know that I haven't been seeing things." Saying this, I noticed that both creatures were staring at me and didn't look to happy about what I just said.

"Ash" Mr.Brummel said "Take the kids and..." Before he could finish his sentence one of the creatures charged  at him, as it threw one of its claws out as it tried to claw him "causing Eve to scream with her hands still over her mouth. Watching the attack coming I saw as Mr. Brummel blocked the hit with his crutch and use the other one to knock the creature back. Frozen by what was taking place, I lost sight of Rebecca which caused me to wonder where she could of gone. "Above you!" I heard Arch shout out causing me to look up to see that she had made her way up towards the ceiling and was staring straight at me with a smile on her face.

Releasing, I saw as the thing fall towards me with its claws stretched out towards me as if to impale me. Closing my eyes, I instinctively threw my hands up and as I did there was a surge of energy that passed through me as well a strong pull in the pit of my stomach.

From my seat on the floor, I had a good view of everything that was happening which seemed unreal. Watching Mr. Brummel not just hold his own against the creature but being able to walk without his crutches left me feeling out of place. As I watched Mr. Brummel fighting back the creature and Ash looking terrified, I noticed that the thing that was known as Rebecca was no where in sight causing me to fear the worst. Quickly scanning the room, I kept low to the floor as I tried to make myself as small and unnoticeable as possible. Doing a quick glance up at the ceiling, I saw her as she quickly crawled to a point above Avery causing what felt like my hair to stand up on end.

"Above you!" I called instinctively as I watch the creature position itself before falling from the ceiling. As I sat there frozen in fear as to what's to come for Avery, I willed my eyes to shut or look away to no avail forcing me to be an unwilling witness to my friends death. As I watched the creature fall with it's arms stretched outward, Avery threw his hands up defensively causing the room to drastically shake as if there was an earthquake which caused all the bookshelves and books to be knocked over as well as shattering all the windows in the library, as huge shadowy tendrils flew up from Avery's shadow impaling Rebecca and destroying a large portion of the ceiling as well.

Rebecca letting out a fearsome cry as she hung suspended by the tendrils piercing her chest collapsed before turning into yellow dust and polluting the air with a smell of rotten eggs. With the yellow dust falling down to the ground, I saw Avery fall to his knees as the tendrils dispersed into black smoke before dissipating. Getting up, I ran over to Avery to see if he was ok.  "Hey, are you okay?" I asked worriedly. "I'm fine." He replied getting up as Ash ran over as he carried his crutches.

"We need to go." Ash ordered as he helped Avery up. Before heading towards the broken window Avery grabbed the book that was closed and laying on the floor. Heading over to the broken window I saw as Ben was shaking his sister out of her catatonic state and lead her to and out the window. Moving past the planted flowers that were by the window Ash spoke up. " We need to head towards Mr. Brummel's van to get to a safe place." as he and the others started to head of towards the parking lot. "What about Mr. Brummel?" Ben asked as he still tried to snap his sister out of her catatonic state. "He'll just have to meet us there" Ash said right as Mr. Brummel flew backwards out the window and landing by the flower bed of tiger Lilly's.

Running over to him, I saw Mr.Brummel get up up and brush himself off. Without his hat on, I saw that among his short thick hair were a pair of goat horns that we're obviously sticking out among his hair. "What did that thing do to you?" I asked as I stared at his horns. "Nothing," Mr. Brummel replied "where are the others?" "They are heading to your van." "That's good then you should go wait there with them." As he told me this I saw the creature leap out the window and landing in the flower bed next to Mr. Brummel and I with another one landing not far behind it. The second creature was far bigger with both height and muscle on it's side, it took off towards the parking lot in a blur despite its size. Alarm and panic took over as i saw it take off towards the lot but before I could react, Mr. Brummel was kicked away by the creature next to us which allowed it to grab and lift me in my confusion causing me to to panic. Struggling to get out of it's grasp, I willed myself free as I tried to squirm out of it's grasp causing it to laugh. Refusing to give up, I struggled and willed myself to get free as I looked at the thing.

The creature which had a grin on its face was now looking at its feet, following its gaze, I saw as the lilies began to grow and wrap around its legs. Hearing the thing let out a deep growl it I looked up at it to see its mouth opening up as if to take a bite. Looking at its opening mouth I struggled even more as I felt my adrenaline rush through my body. As I willed myself free and tried to get out of its grip the lilies flew up and wrapped around it's arms, neck and torso preventing it from being able to take a chunk out if me. As I struggled I could feel my strength quickly fading away as the flowers continued to mummify the thing till it let go to try to free itself. Hearing a scream echo through the air shattering the rest of  the schools windows, Mr. Brummel who was bruised had a worried expression on his face as he came over to where I sat. Struggling up, Mr. Brummel tossed me over his shoulder and took off over to the parking lot where the others were waiting. Reaching the parking lot, I saw that both Ben and Ash were on the ground besides his sister who was passed out with Avery leaning against the vain with an exhausted expression on his face. On the ground in front of them was Nick who was on the ground twitching and drooling vigurously. "What happened?" Mr.brummel asked tiredly as he ran up to the van. That thing came and attacked." Avery said tiredly as Ash stood up and picked up Eve. "What what are these things?" Ben demanded. "Get in and I'll explain on the way!" Mr. Brummel ordered causing everyone to flood into the vehicle.

Setting me down in the front seat, he pulled out the parking lot and sped off into the street. Speeding down the road, the atmosphere inside of the van was ominously quiet so I dicided to break the silence. "What were those things?" "They were cacodemons, very dangerous and not easily defeated. But you should all rest till we get to our destination where it's safe. There I'll explain everything." As the steady whine of the engine went off I could feel myself slowly falling to sleep before darkness.
