The Unwanted Rose|5
Bright red, maroon and golden was all across the wall. Smiles, laughter and joy were echoing around the grand hall. I gazed at the handsome man sitting beside me in his sherwani. He smiled at me occasionally when our eyes met.
I was on cloud nine as the wedding ended. My wish was finally fulfilled. The person I loved, belonged to me for eternity. I smiled at the vows we prepared for each other. Our wedding had two ceremonies one for my family as I am Christian and the other in a traditional Hindu way.
"You are smart, I am funny. You hate Disney, I hate action. You love to sleep on the right side of the bed, I love to sleep on the left. You are a listener, I am a chatterbox. I am nervous, you are calm. You lost the keys, I found them. In other words? We are perfect for each other! I do!"
The crowd cheered and Sid smiled heart warningly at me. Kissing my head through the veil he went forward to say his vows.
"Because of you, I laugh, I smile, I dare to dream again. I look forward with great joy to spending the rest of my life with you, caring for you, nurturing you, being there for you in all life has for us, and I vow to be true and faithful for as long as we both shall live"
"I declare you man and wife. You may kiss the bride" The priest declared followed by some cheers. Sid removed my veil and smiled at me before pecking me on my lips. I caressed his jaw before he lowered the veil again.
I won't lie his vows made me smile and I felt like the luckiest woman on earth to have him as my husband. Finally, my dream came true. He was mine and I was his for eternity. We were married.
But sometimes marriage is not strong enough to hold two people together. Our hearts were tied but by the marriage. Or maybe just mine. I was blind not to notice the truth. Although it was there right in front of me. In his eyes.
He was never mine. His heart never belonged to me. It belonged to her.

"Let's go to McDonald's," Karthik said driving into the McD's parking area.
"I am not hungry," I told him not moving my eyes from the window. He parked the car and removed the key turning to me.
"But I am. Let's go" He said exiting the car. I followed him grumpily. Although I was hungry I didn't want to eat before a party as it will make my tummy look fat. I heard him ordering french fries, spicy double-layered chicken burger and chocolate brownie. My mouth watered and I couldn't help but ask for the server to make it two.
We took our seats, he was scrolling through his phone I leaning on my seat looking at the cars rushing by from the window.
"So who is your partner to the party?" I asked him bored of the silence and slightly curious.
"You" He answered without looking up from his phone. I was confused.
"Me?" I asked dumbly.
"Yes," He answered patiently. I looked at him, an unknown feeling tearing me apart from inside.
"Then what about Sid?" I asked him calmly.
"He is going with the boss's daughter" He answered finally looking at me. He must have chosen to ignore the pain in my eyes as he continued.
"She is extremely pretty and was partner less. So she asked Sid to be her partner and he complied" He explained to me. There was a storm of emotions going in my inside me. My stomach was twisting, my brain warning me. But I chose to ignore all of that and shook my head. Smiling pleasantly I smiled at him.
"Sid is a gentleman, isn't he?" I tried to keep my tone pleasant keeping the jealousy out of my voice.
"He is. But don't expect me to be one. I can hardly entertain one woman and my charming friend is entertaining two" He mumbled the last sentence under his breath. I heard it loud and clear. My breath hitched as I kept the tears at bay.
"Hmm" I replied not interested in talking to him anymore. Then I realised this was Karthik's words, not Sid's. How can I trust this guy? I laughed at my foolishness and applauded Karthik from inside for almost fooling me into believing his dirty lies. Sid would never do such a thing. I trusted him. I was his princess, right?
Smiling as I remembered his promises. I shook my head and tried to brighten my mood by eating the yummy meal. After eating he dropped me back home and I went to my bathroom to have a long shower.
I started painting my nails and air drying my hair. After the nail and hair were dried I started wearing the beautiful red Sari. It was beautiful and looked elegant. Wearing it, I smiled at the reflection staring back at me. Tying my hair in an updo. I did light makeup to complement my dress. I took my purse from the bed and exited my room as the doorbell rang.
I saw Karthik at the door. I raised my eyebrows confused.
"Where is Sid?" I asked him.
"He is at the party" He replied.
"He left without me," I said softly to myself.
"You can't take two women at a party, can you?" He said after some time. Moving out of his way I let him enter. Still standing in the doorway I tried to collect my thoughts. My mood was dampening as I stood there like a fool.
I tried to breathe in and out, trying to relax. But it wasn't helping. Going back to my room I looked in the mirror.
My plain black eyes stared back at me. My skin had blemishes and my figure wasn't perfect like a model. A lone tear fell from my eyes smearing my Kajal. One more fell following its trail. I continued looking at the mirror my tears falling.
Realizing that I looked uglier than before I quickly wiped my makeup off and washed my face. Applying Kajal under my eyes and some lip gloss on my lips I frowned looking at my pale bare face. It was no point in getting ready as Sid wasn't going to accompany me. Untying my hair I let it fall like a veil around my face to hide my slightly red eyes.
After a while, Karthik stepped out of his room. Without looking at him I followed him to the car. We arrived at the party after some time.
