Chapter Twenty-Eight
Chapter Twenty-Eight
Lexi's POV
After Amelia fell asleep, I quietly got up and walked out of the building, before I started running, running as fast as my legs would take me. I pushed stuff away as I ran past my house, and branches way as I ran through the woods before stopping at the base of a tree; and crying my eyes out. This was the spot, the spot where Ava was going to be buried; at the base of our childhood treehouse. I cried as memories played before me, as if a was watching a movie. I watched as a 6 year old me lead a 5 year old Ava to the treehouse our dad just built for us.
“Keep your eyes closed.” I said to my little sister, as I held her hand and guided her through the woods.
I watched as she covered her eyes with her spare hand, stuck out her tongue a little bit.
“Almost there.” I whispered as she tried to peek from behind her hand.
“Open!”
I let go of her hand, and watched her face as she saw the treehouse. She ran up to the tire swing, and had me push her. I smiled as her laughs filled the air.
“Do you want to see the inside?” I asked.
She nodded excitedly, and jumped of the tire swing. I held the rope ladder still as she climbed up, and followed her. When we got inside there as our old couch, a table with a laptop and movies on it, some chairs, a bookshelf and lots of books, some toys and games, and our dad kneeling down with open arms.
A-”Daddy!” Ava yelled running into his arms. (We didn't get to see our dad that much since we was in the army)
D-”Hi baby, I missed you.” He said and kissed the top of her head.
A-”I missed you too, daddy.”
D-”Do you like the treehouse?” He said looking down at her.
A-”I love it. Thank you!”
D-”You're welcome, Ava.”
D-”Do you want to watch a movie?” our dad ask as he pulled away from Ava.
I said yes, and Ava nodded excitedly. He grabbed “Sleeping Beauty” from the stack of movies, and put it in the DVD player in the laptop. Our mom mom joined us, and we all sat on the couch, and watched the movie.
The memory stopped and I fell to my knees. I looked over to where our dad was buried. He died in war, and now Ava would be joining him in an endless sleep. But this time, unlike the movie, a kiss wouldn't wake her up.
I remember Ava and I would grab our sleeping bags and some snacks, and spend the night in the treehouse. Or we would just go up there and play games all day. That treehouse became our second home.
I wiped my eyes as another memory began to play.
(Lexi's 11 and Ava is 9 turning 10 soon)
A-”Lexi come on! I want to watch Percy Jackson.”
“No, the books are 10 times better.” I said adding books, movies, and other stuff to my new bookshelf.
A-”Well I haven't read the books, and I like the movies.” She said crossing her arms.
“You could always read the books.” I said as I reached down into the box of stuff, and handed her “Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief”.
“Now you have the first book.”
A-”How many are there?”
“Five.”
A-”How long are they?!” She said looking at the first book.
I thought a bit before saying
“Lightning Thief is 377 pages, Sea of Monsters is 279, Titan’s Curse is 312, Battle of the Labyrinth is 341, and Last Olympian is 381.”
A-”That's too much. Besides there are 5 books, and only 2 movies.”
“Fine, but I get to point out everything that's wrong in the movies.”
A-“Deal.” She said putting her hand out.
I shook her hand. She has no idea what she's getting herself into I thought.
“Maybe you can read them in the afterlife.” I said after the memory stopped.
I don't know if she believed in heaven and hell or God, or if we'll even go there. But I can hope.
I started crying and felt someone wrap their arms around me. I tensed up before I looked down and saw my mother's charm bracelet.
“Why did she have to go?!” I said as I turned around and cried into her shoulder.
M-”It was just her time.”
“That's the thing mom, it wasn't her time; it will never be her time.”
M-”It was her choice Lexi. There was nothing we could do.” My mom said rubbing my back.
“That's what everyone keeps saying.” I whispered.
M-”Come on sweetie, let's go home.”
I nodded, and we went home.
Author's Note- Hey thank you so much for reading and staying with this book even though I've taken forever to update. I know I've been writing a lot of sad chapters lately, but I mean I can't really write super happy chapters when Ava just died.
The next chapter will be the funeral, I will try to write happy chapters after that but I don't know how many chapters are left at the moment. So again thank you so much for reading my book and I will try to update soon.
