The Lurking Darkness
They say love is blind... But, love can also be deaf and dumb as well. Love seizes us to find faults of the beloved, love makes us overlook horrific realities at times! But, what love defies is betrayal!
Suresh was purblind to Kshitija's evil plotting. Although, in his heart somewhere, he knew that his feelings weren't reciprocated, but, again his mind insisted in his pursual.
He respected Anirudh, may be awed him as well, but everytime he would realise Kshitija's unfathomable longing for the man, his heart would wrench, filled with a certain unaccounted jealousy for the charismatic Barrister.
"Suresh Da... Are you sure about this?" Anirudh had asked him as they met outside the Dehradun Central Hospital.
"Even after knowing everything? What she did to Bondita and what she intended for Mira?"
Suresh couldn't answer him at that moment. What could he had even answered? That's he was the reason for all these madness ?
Suresh looked down as Anirudh spoke again, trying to convince him sincerely.
"Suresh Da... Think again! I know it's you life... I know you love her... But..."
"But? I love her and that's the end of discussion Anirudh!" Suresh has finally replied firmly. "I'll give her one last chance Anirudh... Just once chance to redeem!"
Suresh looked straight into Anirudh' eyes as he muttered his last words.
"Suresh Da... You are a good man. You deserve a lot better."
"Anirudh. I'm not sure what's the definition of a good man is anymore... I too have my share of sins Bhai."
Suresh took a deep breath trying to deviate from the topic forcefully.
" So tomorrow Maa is throwing a small baby shower for Mira... I hope you and your family would grace the occasion with your presence."
"I received your note in the morning Dada... We'll be there!" Anirudh smiled gently as he bid his farewell.
"Bring everyone... I repeat everyone! The Roy Chowdhury's kitchen shall not be lit tomorrow!"
Anirudh smiled back, keying the ignition of his car as a cloud of black smoke dusted the forlorn figure standing behind.

"Kshitija... " Suresh tried to hug her as she wiggled violently in his arms.
"Don't... We are to be married in three days." He planted a kiss on her cheek forcefully as Kshitija freed herself from his bond.
"What happened?" Suresh asked. " Don't you want to marry me? Do you want me to tell everyone about your little secret?"
Kshitija clutched the wooden frame of a chair, looking down on the floor as her lips started to quiver at his words.
"I know about Mavi... And Bheem and Raghav... And what you did with the money you took from me!"
Suresh inched closer to her, bending his face down to her lips.
Kshitija closed her eyes as her face flinched.
"I love you very much Kshi... So much that I can kill and die for you... Don't you love me?"
Kshitija opened her eyes.
"I do..." She muttered.
"Do you want me prove my masculinity to you again? That's what attracts you, isn't it? Strong chauvinistic masculinity!"
Kshitija couldn't speak as her eyes looked away feeling the pain and disgust in his words.
"I'm keeping your wedding saree here... Along with his box. Nothing like those Roy Chowdhurys, but some modest jewelleries." He paused. " Wear them. And my driver will pick you up on Friday."
Suresh kept a red ornamented Banarasi saree on the table along with a middle sized wooden box.
"See you soon my love!" Suresh turned to leave as Kshitija stopped him.
"Do you really love me Suresh?" She asked abruptly as her voice choked in an unknown emotion.
"Do you promise to keep us happy forever?"
Suresh swallowed hard. In a moment, his knees felt weak and his heart flinched as he heard Kshitija's question.
"I have always loved you Kshi... It has always been you... We could have had our epic love story as well, had you reciprocated my feelings." Suresh's voice quivered as Kshitija inched closer to him.
She stretched her hands and held his shoulders with a gentle firmness.
"It's a word then... Let's immortalize our love!" She smiled brightly as Suresh pecked a light kiss on his forehead.
"Don't let me down Kshi... Just one more day, and we'll be together forever!"

Anirudh was pacing restlessly in his study in his light blue nightsuit, as his thoughts were drifted to his earlier conversation with Dr. Suresh Chatterjee.
Kshitija was a clear sighted criminal, and how can he just let her be free!
The question churned his mind and soul in a loop as he pressed his head with his hands.
"Ufff...." A sharp gasp left his lips as he finally sat down in his table. He pulled out his typewriter and started to press the keys slowly... Kshitija can't just get away with her crimes... Atleast he can't let her be!
....................................
The darkness of the night had enveloped the lonely Sinha Residency as Kshitija lay awake in her bed, reminiscing Suresh's words.
'It won't be difficult to remove him from her path once they are married',she thought, ' the fool afterall loves her!'
She was half asleep in her bed, the scanty moonlight played hide and seek through the closed glass window and she visualised the upcoming facade that Suresh had called 'wedding'!
Her eyes had almost closed as suddenly a sharp loud noise snapped her senses up, reverberating through the darkness of the room... the sound of shattering glasses!
Kshitija sat up immediately, as she took out the sharp knife from under her pillow.
"Who is it?" She shouted out once as her eyes fell on the small round white ball that lay on the floor. It had entered her room through the broken glass panes.
Kshitija crept down the bed, and picked out the white ball. But only, it's wasn't really a ball. It was a letter, a typed one... wrapped around a stone. Someone had threw it from outside!
Kshitija sat down on the bed, as she switched on her bedside table lamp.
Straightening the letter on her bed, she started to read.
"My dearest Kshitija,
It's said that better late than never! Although it took me sometime to realise the intensity of your love for me... Your passion, your craziness! But, now all the shadowed clouds infront of my eyes have cleared. It's only and only you whom I want... The heat that I feel in me, it's only you who can cool me down. I dream of the warmth that your breath has for me, I dream of your beautiful body pressed against mine... I dream of loving you every moment Kshitija!
For a moment, I was caught in the mundanity of life that I called as love. But now, I know what my heart craved for... The passionate momentum and undying velocity... That's what I've found in you... Come to me Kshitija... Come in my arms! I'll be waiting, eagerly waiting to tie you in my embrace.
Tomorrow late evening, after sunset, at my Banglow. I promise I'll be alone!
Yours and only yours,
Barrister Anirudh Roy Chowdhury. "
Kshitija read the letter... once, twice, thrice, as her heart started racing everytime with each syllable!
Her Anirudh had finally admitted his love for her, and this was all she needed.
Not even once did he mention about that orphan in his letter, and why would he? The orphan means nothing when it comes to their ferocious love!
Kshitija lay down again as her lips curled up into a bright smile of satisfaction.
"Finally... Anirudh, finally!" She murmured clasping the letter close to her heart.
"But silly, don't you realise how difficult this one day is going to be for me!" She murmured and kissed the letter repeatedly before switching off the night lamp.
She was exhilarated with happiness, probably a bit too happy to realise that a small piece of the broken glass had pierced the sole of her right foot... And what else didn't realise was that dark large shadow that stood outside her window, hiding behind a huge Maple tree. The figure let a deep sigh as it pulled down its long black shawl covering the face, it's white pajama was muddled up as the misty shadows of the night slowly enveloped it's sinister silhouette.
