Jackie's the best! No she's not.
Correction. Jacklyn is not a bad partner... She's a horrible one.
She's always talking about trees and nature and not focusing at the task at hand, and Arya has to admit, it's driving her crazy.
Now, Arya's not one to show her emotions, but she can't help but feel slightly annoyed every time she sees Jackie. There's just something about this other girl...
"And that's how plants make food!" Jacklyn exclaimed with a twinkle in her eyes. "Isn't it amazing, Ary?" She asked turning Arya's shoulders towards her.
"No." She deadpanned, stepping out of her grip. Arya turned back to the table that had files stacked all over it in piles and picked up one, ignoring Jackies pout and her arms falling to her sides.
"Okaaaay, so what are looking at?" She asked sweetly.
Arya gave a fake smile and said, "Oh, I don't know... Maybe the things we're supposed to look at."
Jackie gave a confused look and Arya rolled her eyes. "The mission Jacklyn! Harry already told you everything, so can you stop fooling around and be helpful?"
Jackies expression fell and she nodded walking over to the desk and searching through some files.
"Finally..." Arya mumbled.
Jacklyns mouth twitched. "Well sorry. I just thought we could have a bit of fun. Like getting to know each other a bit better."
Arya scoffed. "Yeah, because that'll help with this so much..."
Jacklyn set down the papers and stared at Arya in disbelief.
"What?" Arya said.
Jackie shook her head and pressed her hands together rolling her eyes. "Nothing. It doesn't matter."
Arya was about to reply when Jacklyn cut her off. "Lets just get this over with," She gestured towards the files of suspects.
Arya watched as Jacklyn studied the papers before looking at them herself. Her eyes scanned the list of names that covered the whole entire paper. She decide to stop on a man named Charles.
The number next to his name was 35 so Arya went to the other files and plucked out the one matching his. Skimming through it she found nothing useful. She sighed and plopped the file on the table. The black haired girl rubbed her hands against her face and stared at the file again.
Her eyes went wide and her breath hitched in her throat. At the very bottom of the file was the word: Lock. Arya felt the word on the page as if it was special and she didn't even notice that Jacklyn had stopped looking and was asking if she was alright.
"-ya. Arya, are you okay? Arya!" Arya's face looked up to see Jacklyns worried expression and her eyes hardened slightly.
Her face morphed back into a plain expression and she said, "I'm fine. Sorry to worry you?"
Jacklyn smiled and just nodded towards the file Arya had in her hand. "So what's it say?"
Arya pondered for a moment, wondering whether to tell Jacklyn or not. She went with the former. They were partners after all...
"On this man's file, Charles Freeman, it says on the very bottom... Lock." The word sounded foreign and felt like poison coming off her tongue. Jacklyn's skin paled slightly and her eyes drifted to the paper.
"Wh-I-... Excuse me?" Jacklyn mustered.
"It says, Lock." Jacklyn frowned this time and seemed to be in deep thought before she looked into Arya's eyes with a look of worry.
"This is our guy, right?" She asked, hesitantly.
Arya frowned herself and looked at the other files piled in front of them.
"Most likely, no. As you know they live in packs, almost. Wherever one is, there's at least ten more." Arya answered, shaking her head.
"Oh my gosh... We have to tell Harry." She said walking towards the door.
Arya stopped her by grabbing her wrist. Jacklyn stopped and quickly glanced at Arya's hand before glaring at her.
"What was that-"
"I think we should learn as much about this as possible before telling him," She cut her off and said , "Let's just research a bit more and then tell him, deal?"
Jacklyn's lips pressed together and she looked into Arya's eyes and she looked, almost... Desperate. Sighing she nodded and Arya immediately let go of the other girls wrist and went to searching for more files with "Lock" written on it.
About 30 minutes later, they found 7 files. Jacklyn thought they should stop and take a break, but Arya wouldn't have it. She was so sure that there were more people with Lock on their file that she continued looking completely ignoring Jackie.
Jacklyn reluctantly went back to searching through the hundreds of files with Arya.
Around 10 minutes later they found a complete 10 and Jacklyn let out a sigh.
"Finally! Can we tell Harry now?"
Arya's turned to look at Jacklyn. Her same plain expression rested on her face.
"Yeah... Whatever." She said, continuing to look through the mass of papers in front of her, completely forgetting the fact that she didn't want Harry to know.
Jackie shook her head and walked out of the room. She took large strides down the halls, until she stopped in front of Harry's door.
Giving it a light knock she waited patiently.
There was no answer.
Frowning, she tried again.
Still no answer.
Jacklyn was getting a bit worried at this point, so she turned the knob slowly, and thankfully it was unlocked.
Swinging the door open she stepped inside to meet a sight she thought she'd never see.
The office was empty.
Not, empty like "no ones here" empty, but "nothings" here empty.
She looked around to find a clue or just any piece of evidence that was left behind, but there was nothing.
Worry settled in her stomach and she mustered up the courage to tell Arya the news.
She wouldn't be pleased... or at least Jacklyn thought so.
