What we don't know

What we don't know

I've discussed a lot of physics that we do know. But, what are the things we don't know.

1. What were the conditions that triggered the Big Bang? This is the holy grail of physics. What is a singularity and how does it form?

2. What caused the inflation period (the universe expanded at faster than light) after the big bang to end?  No one knows what even caused the inflation period.

3.Why did matter prevail over anti-matter? Why was there the slight imbalance between matter and anti-matter that caused matter to predominate? There are some theories but no positive data.

4.Why is there such a large gap in forces, particles and energy levels? This vexes quantum physicists because it doesn't make sense. It seems inefficient, but yet it works.

5.Why do the physical constants have the values they do? There has to be a fundamental reason for this, but no one can explain it.

6.What happens to matter and information (energy) that falls into a Black Hole? This is also a vexing problem because no one can predict for sure what happens when stuff falls into a black hole.

7. How does quantum mechanics really work? Despite the fact that the math predicts things like what the energy and spin of a particle should be, no one understands how the crazy stuff works.

8.What the heck is Dark matter and Dark energy? No one really knows what these things are.

9.Why does time always move forward? There is no good explanation for why this is.

10.What comes after the universe ends? This is completely unknown.

What the problem with all of these is that they are fundamental questions that science hasn't answered in the so-called theory of everything. One thing is for sure and that is that we have barely scratched the surface of what there is to know.

Thanks for reading.
