Chapter Two
*Four Months Earlier*
Rory had been acting suspicious for a while now, and the Doctor could see that. He became very secretive, he never let his phone out of his sight, and hardly came with Amy and the Doctor on the TARDIS, whether it was because of 'work' or 'his dad needed help' or 'his boss was locked out'. The Doctor immediately knew what those signs meant, he was over 900, for pete's sake. But he didn't have proof. He needed to obtain evidence that Rory was cheating, otherwise he could split up the Pond's for nothing. So he decided, being the Sherlock he is, to investigate.
It was a rainy Monday night. The clouds were a dark colour against the indigo night sky, and aside from the drizzle of rain it seemed a quite peaceful evening. To avoid suspicion, the Doctor had placed the TARDIS 5 minutes away from the Royal Leadworth Hospital, to make sure Rory wouldn't know he was there. He walked through the entrance and into the hospital, timidly approaching the front desk. Behind it there was a woman who looked to be in her late 20s, her honey blonde hair secured into a tight bun (with one or two stray strands of hair draping over her face) and her plump pink lips pursed in concentration as she viewed a file on the computer. Her glasses resided on the tip of her nose, and as she saw the Doctor approach her she looked away from the document and pushed them up the bridge of her petite nose.
"Can I help you, sir?" she asked politely, a smile plastered on her pale face and her baby blue eyes shining.
"Yes, actually, you can," the Doctor fished through the inside pocket of his tweed jacket and pulled out his psychic paper, displaying it in front of her face. "I'm looking for Rory Williams, perhaps you could help me--" he glanced at the Identification badge the girl was wearing, "-Martha? Nice name. I once had a compan--" he quickly corrected himself, "friend, I had a friend called Martha."
Martha moved her gaze from the Doctor to the computer screen, her eyes flicking from file to file as she tapped the keyboard. "Now, let me see- Ah, Rory Williams. Second Floor, Elsten Ward." She gestured towards a staircase. "You go up there, then turn left, then the second right, and just ask one of the nurses to call him on the tannoy," she smiled again, fluttering her eyelashes flirtily. "See you soon, Doctor Smith," she added, remembering the name she saw on the psychic paper.
"Please, call me John," he replied, winking at the beauty as he started in the direction Martha had showed him. It took him a few minutes (Martha's directions weren't that great) to find the Elsten ward, and when he got there he struggled to find any staff. After a bit of searching, he came across an old woman mopping a spill on the floor.
"Sorry to interrupt, but do you know where I can find Rory Williams?" He asked the lady quickly.
"Rory? Oh, last time I saw him he was with Nina by the store room," she replied kindly, revealing her Irish accent.
"Thank you, madam. Oh and by the way, missed a spot just there," he guided her mop a little to the left before taking off towards the store room.
It took another 3 minutes to get to the storeroom, with help from Julie, another cleaner who smelled of peanuts and soap, and when he had found his destination, he grasped the door knob and inhaled deeply. This was the moment he would find out whether or not his instincts were correct.
And, to the Doctors disgust, they were.
Inside the store room, was Rory Williams pressing another (female) nurse against the wall (who the Doctor assumed to be 'Nina') attacking her mouth with his own savagely.
And the Doctor was about to kill him.
