Chapter Six
He felt dead inside. Both hearts were broken beyond repair. There was nothing left of him. No happiness, no joy, no love. Only heartbreak. It felt like there was a pit in his chest, a hole. It hurt, more than any disappointment, any let down, any heart break he'd ever felt before. He wanted to cry, but it was as if there were no more tears left.
Of course she would believe Rory. Why wouldn't she? He waited 2000 years for her, always showed her love and support. He had been there when Amy was branded 'crazy'. The Doctor had lied to her; told her that he'd only be five minutes. He promised not to abandon her, he gave her hope, and then took it away. And that's exactly what Amy was doing to him now. Taking away any possibility of them finally having their happily ever after.
What did he expect, though? Monsters don't get happy endings. The princess falls in love with the prince, always oblivious to the lonely monster who adored her. Amy was beautiful, he was a beast. The only difference was (aside from talking furniture, as well) that they wouldn't have a happy ending. The princess would go off with her dirty, cheating prince, never knowing or never believing.
That's what hurt him the most.
Amy, on the other hand, felt just as betrayed. Why would the Doctor, her best friend, try to split herself and her husband up, especially when they were starting a family! Amy changed back into her sexy underclothes, waiting for Rory to come home. She wanted to forget what had happened. She never wanted to see that lousy Doctor ever again.
Rory came home about an hour later, looking completely exhausted.
"There you are, big boy." Amy purred. "I've been waiting for you all day." She gently sat next to him on the couch, placing her hand on his thigh.
"Not today, Amy. Maybe another time." He sighed. "Has the Doctor been round?" There was a certain look on his face, like he was scared.
"Yeah, why?"
Rory sat up quickly, almost startled. "What did he tell you? Amy, what did he say?!" He sounded vicious, like his life depended on the answer. Her eyes found his, but she didn't see love in them...
She saw fear.
"He - just came around to tell me we won't be able to go on adventures for awhile -" she lied moving away slightly in fear.
Rory sighed with relief. "Thank god." He muttered quietly.
"Something the matter, Rory?" Amy questioned. He was acting rather suspicious... Come to think of it, he had been working a little longer than usual. And maybe he had missed a few adventures. And he also was very private and secretive with his phone...
Amy sniffed the air, inhaling a sickly sweet scent. "What's that sweet smell?" She leaned closer to him. "Are you wearing perfume?"
Rory looked anxious again. "P-probably just yours rubbing off on me-"
"But I don't wear that perfume, and we haven't been close in days..." Amy backed away slightly. "Have you been cheating on me?"
"Fine, you want the truth? I was late coming home because I was in the perfume shop, looking for your birthday present. It was going to be a surprise, but-" he shrugged, the way a good liar always does.
Amy smiled, wrapping her arms around his neck. "I knew you'd never cheat on me, Rory." Yet she was still very weary.
She couldn't help but think...
Maybe the Doctor had been right.
