CHAPTER 11 - Detention
Shit.
He was done for.
Timetravelling was indeed a mess.
Harry sat there helplessly looking at Remus, whose face sported a deadly serious expression McGonagall would have been proud of.
He can't just tell him who he was, he would mess up his own life. So what should he do?
All his auror training came rushing back to him. The balding trainer's face came looming in his brain.
If you are trapped, defensive spells are your escape.
"Stupefy!" Harry yelled as he jumped up from his chair, his wand whipped out of his robes in such speed it was a complete blur. The young boy dropped onto the floor with a soft thump.
Who knew Harry's auror skills will come to use in this kind of situation?
Harry let out a staggering breath, his wand hand still raised in front of him. He slowly walked around his desk, tos the sprawled figure the floor, his wand still not lowered.
Remus lay there, legs bent in an awkward angle, his scarred face peaceful, as if he were in a deep sleep. His chest kept rising and falling with his short, shallow breaths. Harry knelt down and prodded him with his free hand, and the boy's head lolled to the side.
Harry relaxed and sat on the floor, Indian style, and gazed at the werewolf, not really looking at him. Honestly, where was he stuck? Sure, there were 3 months left for the year to end but he could just LEAVE from here now. Get away from all this trouble.
But he can't.
He has to clean up the mess he had created. Few weeks back he could leave easily, with people thinking he disappeared mysteriously because 'job was cursed' blah blah. But no! He wanted to see his father and Sirius.
Now he really understood why Hermione kept calling him reckless. He really felt guilty not listening to her, when he had the fake vision of Sirius in his fifth year. He had no idea why was he remembering it now, but he somehow found his situation deeply connected.
Harry ran his fingers through his hair, tugging at it. He wished he could just go, just obliviate Remus and leave the castle, but then a red headed figure floated in front of him.
Not Ginny. But his mother Lily Evans. Harry gagged, as memory of the you-know-what creeped into his head. He could almost imagine Ginny's reaction if she saw that horrendous thing.
Harry sighed. He really had a lot to do. He got up from the floor, cast a spell on the teens body and placed him in a decent position near the table. He looked at the Sandy haired boy sadly. Remus reminded him a lot of his son Teddy. Although Teddy was more like his mother's personality, clumsy and goofy, he looked a lot like Remus.
Harry took several deep breaths, calming himself, trying to clear his emotions. He raised his wand and concentrated hard on the memory.
"Obliviate." He muttered firmly and twisted his wand, so that a ray of light joined from Remus's head to the tip of Harry's wand. Harry could feel the tugging sensation, and the memory he was erasing flashing before his eyes.
The tugging stopped, the ray of light extinguished, and Remus's body jerked slightly. Harry let out a low whistle. He walked back to the desk where the map lay, and he opened it. He has to change his name, he can't risk this again.
Several labeled dots seemed to be walking outside his office, Harry catched few familiar names, like Severus Snape, (why couldn't he see him often?) , Lucius Malfoy and Bilius Weasely.
Harry looked at his own dot, which was written in bold for some reason, and removed his wand. He pointed it to the word 'potter' and muttered, "Ceretus Jones."
The 'p' and 't' of Potter wobbled a bit, but stayed the same, and instead squirted a nasty smelling ink on Harry's face.
"OWW!!" Harry shrieked, dropping his wand and the map, trying to rub off the stinging ink. He gritted his teeth, the ink was stinging terribly.
Harry removed his glasses which were stained in ink, so that there was a circular patch near his eyes where ink hadn't splattered. He dropped to his knees and began blindly searching for his wand, occasionally bumping into Remus, who lay there snoring lightly. Wasn't the spell worn off by now?
Finally, he felt a wooden stick, and grabbed it pointing it to his face desperately, which was stinging unbearably. "Scourgify!" Harry said annoyed, and the ink vanished from his face. He put on his glasses, and walked back to his desk. It was no use trying to change his name. Unless he wanted to be squirted with that nasty ink again.
A low chuckle escaped Harry's dry lips. The Marauders we're indeed clever to think of this. A well placed jinx if anyone tries to tamper with it. Indeed, the map sees through disguises.
Which can be dangerous for him.
Harry heard a groan behind him and he turned around immediately. He saw Remus stirring, his face in an ugly grimace, and honey eyes fluttering. Harry quickly stuffed the map in his drawer and helped Remus sit up.
"Why, why was I on the floor?" Remus mumbled, eyes slightly unfocused as he kept a palm on his forehead.
"You just tripped. You came here for asking me a doubt and then tripped. Don't worry you are fine." Harry managed a small smile, thinking how did he become such a good liar.
Harry's scar tingled again. He almost yelled with frustration, but refrained himself or else it would almost blow his cover. "Remus, I - I have some work right now so could you er - ?"
"Oh! Right. Sorry to disturb you prof- Harry." Remus smiled weakly and quickly hurried out of his office.
Harry hissed loudly with pain, he felt as if a needle was poking through his wound. After such a huge break Voldemort FINALLY remembered him? This one question will nag him till his last breath, how can his bloody scar pain if the horcrux is longer present in him!?
He closed his eyes for a minute, trying to ease the pain, and found himself walking slowly in a cool place, heading towards a large castle, his black robes trailing behind him. He felt a smirk creep up his face.
With a grunt Harry opened his eyes and swayed on the spot. "No." Was all he could say. "No. No. No! He's coming to Hogwarts. He's coming. No."
Now Harry understood the meaning of the message Voldemort gave him.
I'm coming.......
He was indeed coming. Coming to Hogwarts. Bringing destruction with him. And Harry, is once again the only man who can stop him.
__________
"Harry."
Harry stopped abruptly. He recognized the voice. Ignore Harry. Just ignore it. He started walking to the trophy room, ignoring the calls behind him.
He felt a hand on his shoulder, roughly turning him to the person. He staggered around to be looking into the green eyes so much like his own. Except that it was blazing with anger.
"Why are you ignoring me?" Lily asked crossing her arms across her chest.
Harry looked anywhere except those blazing eyes. It was like looking into a blinding white light. He pursed his lips, in an attempt to show Lily he will not be speaking a word of it.
"Are you actually dwelling on that kiss?" The redhead said, rasing an Auburn eyebrow skeptically.
Harry took a sharp breath as the word kiss. He promised himself not to think about it, but nothing good ever happens to him.
Lily tsked loudly. "I was right. The kiss." She emphasised on the kiss, as she noticed Harry squirming uncomfortably Everytime she mentioned it. She grabbed Harry's chin and forced him to look at her, she felt him tense the moment his skin came in contact with hers.
"I meant that kiss Harry. I really did." She tried to explain the man, who was looking at her with wide eyes full of.....fear? "That was my first kiss, and the best I could ever have. I love you Harry."
Harry looked at his mother as though she was mad. He brushed her hand away from his chin not so gently, and took a step back.
If it wouldn't be this awkward situation, he would be dancing with joy when he heard his mother telling him she loved him. Harry never really received his own mother's love and hearing her telling it now was enough for a volcano of happiness to erupt inside him.
But it sounded so wrong with the way Lily told she loved him. It was not the motherly love she was referring. Harry could make it out with the expression Lily had, and with the tone of her voice. It was a kind of love he and Ginny had. He could sense longing when Lily told she loves him.
As if she is seriously considering to spend her life with him. Harry blanched at that thought.
"Are you okay Harry?" Lily asked, concern replacing her 'longing romantic' look. She reached out a placating hand but Harry immediately stumbled away from her as far he could.
"J-just, stay away from m-me." Harry said and quickly sprinted in the trophy room's direction. He was already late for the detention he gave James and Sirius, he didn't want another mishap to happen if they were alone together.
Even though Harry was expecting it,he nevertheless flinched when he saw Lily brisk walking besides him, looking at Harry annoyed. "Why? Why should I leave you alone? I LOVE you Harry."
Harry clenched his jaw. This was utter torture. He kicked open the trophy room door, vehemently trying to ignore Lily who was breathing down his neck. He didn't even notice James and Sirius nicking stuff it their pockets.
"Can you stop acting like this? You are not the Harry I know." Lily yelled.
Harry finally lost it. He shot her a glare. "How long do you know me anyway? A week? A month? SO YOU STOP IT!"
Lily stood there, her eyes wide with shock, while James stared at her confused. He cleared his throat, a hand absently going up to mess his hair.
"Alright Evans?"
Lily's face contorted with anger. "Shut. Up Potter." She hissed without looking at him.
Harry sighed. "Lily. Just leave. James and Sirius have their detention right now."
Lily narrowed her pretty eyes. "I will NOT."
Harry stared at her irritated with her stubbornness. Well Harry, you have inherited that stubbornness after all.
A small voice said snidely in his head.
He turned back to James and Sirius, the latter looking at him suspiciously, while James busy ogling at Lily.
Harry held out a hand. "Give me you mirror Sirius."
Sirius's suspicious look vanished in thin air. He tensed for a second but immediately relaxed and looked confidently in Harry's eyes.
"Mirror? What mirror? I don't know what you are talking about Harry." He said casually, shrugging lightly. Harry's lips twitched into a smile. He would have believed him if not for the fact he already knew about the mirror.
Harry raised his eyebrows. "You know very well what I am talking about Sirius. The two way mirror. You and James often talk to each other if you are in different detentions is it?"
James has dropped open. Even Sirius looked surprised. Harry smirked triumphantly. "Accio mirror."
A Dusty mirror full of scratches soared out of the pocket of Sirius's and James's robes into Harry's outstretched hand. "Clean those trophies now."
"How does he know everything?" Harry heard James whisper to Sirius as they began scrubbing the trophies. Harry headed towards a rickety table, a small smile pulling his lips.
Lily slammed her fists on the table, making Harry jump. He sighed again, seriously irked with her behavior.
"What now?"
Lily was breathing heavily with anger. "I want to know why are you acting so weird. There is something wrong with you."
Harry rolled his eyes. "Yes. I'm weird, there is something wrong with me. Leave me alone?"
"No." She said firmly. "I'm not going to leave unless you tell you love me too."
CRASH!!!!
Harry and Lily turned to see a broken trophy near James's feet, who was staring at Harry with mixed shock and anger. "WHAT?"
Harry sideglanced at his dad, to see him staring at them both with shock, holding a trophy tight in his hands.
"I don't." Harry hissed at her.
"You do. I can see it in your eyes."
That's the love I have for you as a son! Harry almost screamed.
"I enjoyed the kiss we shared." She whispered.
"KISS-!?!?" James bellowed, positively shaking with fury.
Lily softened a little bit. She slowly approached Harry. She leaned in, eyes half closed.
Harry stood there frozen, and would have almost been kissed again by his mom, if James hadn't pounced on him.
They both fell on the floor, James on top of Harry, his grip tight on his collar. "HOW DARE YOU? SHE IS MINE!!"
"JAMES! Get off Harry!" Lily roared slapping James's shoulder.
Surprised, James quickly got up. "You, you called me James!"
Lily hesitated. "I didn't!"
James grinned. "You did! Padfoot, she just called me James!" He started jumping up and down like a child got his Christmas present early.
Lily groaned, stomping her foot. "Stop grinning that ANNOYING grin POTTER."
She turned back to Harry, who had gotten up weakly, with a determined face. "Why don't you love me? Is it because of our age difference? You are just a couple of years elder than me! So why do you always run away from me? Why do you -"
"Because you are my mother!" Harry burst out, finally losing his patience, fedup with the whole thing. Scar, his mother, his cover up, everything. He never imagined his mom could be so clingy.
Silence.
One of the loudest silence in history.
After what seemed to be an hour Lily managed to squeak out one word. "What?"
Harry put his face in his hands. "Yes. You are my mother. I have timetraveled here on McGonagall's orders, I have come from the year 2019." He looked up to see Lily's face flushed with shock, and his the boys' faces sceptic. "Have you never noticed the similarities between us? Specially my eyes?"
Lily's mouth formed an 'O' as she realized it was just like hers.
"It's just like Lily's. Green, almond shape." James whispered. Sirius nodded numbly. A look of dawning comprehension adorned the animagus' face.
Lily looked disgusted, and she clapped a hand over her mouth.
She kissed her son? On the lips?
"If you are telling the truth, it explains how you knew about the two way mirror and Remus's furry little problem." James said, trying to register all this unexpected news.
"And how you look like James......" Sirius said, his eyebrows furrowed with confusion. "Does that mean........."
Sirius and James looked at each other, dumbfounded while Lily looked ready to faint.
All the 3 looked at Harry, asking for confirmation if James was really his dad.
And Harry nodded.
