Maya's POV
I was hoping and praying I would spot a familiar face. Someone I knew, someone I could ran to and ask for them to take me far away from this place.
Well, the universe heard me, because that's exactly what I got. Kind of.
I spotted a familiar face but I couldn't ran into his arms and ask him to save me from this horrible night. I couldn't because the familiar face I spotted was Max's.
I sighed as soon as my brain acknowledged the fact that he wouldn't be able to help me. During this time I was staring at him without even realizing I was. His eyes eventually took a quick look around while he was laughing and enjoying his time with friends. It didn't take long until his eyes locked with mine. His smile faded and his visible teeth were now hidden behind 2 firmly closed lips. He frowned as he was unsure as to he could trust his eyes. He probably wasn't expecting me here. I immediately turned around and tried to find the closest bus-stop on my phone.
This night was a massive mistake.
Max's POV
"And then Max dove into the water," Alexander laughed as he was telling everyone one of the most embarrassing time of my life. My friends all laughed at me, pushing me aside for my stupid decision back then. I laughed along until my eyes met a special someone. It took me a few seconds before I realized it was her. What was she doing here?
Isn't she like Muslim?
Even though I was more than 8 feet away from her, I could clearly see in her eyes that she was lost.
Confused.
It looked like she was waiting for someone familiar to find her.
I took a quick look around to see if she was here with someone I knew.
No one. Nobody was around. She was alone at a Christmas market where alcohol was the main beverage.
I contemplated whether I should say hi and ask her if she was alright or just continue hanging out with my friends.
I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if something happened to her.
"Hey guys, I'll be right back okay?" I said while walking off. I received some confused looks but they quickly shrugged it off.
I was slowly approaching Maya while thinking about what I should possibly say to her.
"Hey are you okay?" I internally whispered.
No, too much.
"Hey what are you doing here?"
Nah, too nonchalant.
"Hey Maya great to see you."
Yeah no. I'll just go with the first one.
I cleared my throat when I was standing behind her. Her sudden tilted head made me realize she had heard me.
I heard how she took a deep breath as she turned around, her eyes still filled with the same emotions I was seeing from back there.
I looked at her while my eyebrows were furrowed.
"Hey Max," she whispered.
"You okay?" I asked with a slight grin on my face.
Internally I was worried about her, but I couldn't show her that.
"Uhu," she replied, breaking eye contact followed by her also taking a step back. Her taking a step back made her bump into a guy who made him spill his drink all over himself.
The guy, who obviously was furious, turned around to face the person who had bumped into him.
"Look what you did," he harshly replied.
"Oh sorry I didn't mean to," Maya innocently replied. Her voice softer than ever and her hands shaking from either the cold weather or the fearfulness.
I cleared my throat and stepped in. "Sorry man, she didn't see you." I then grabbed her hand and pulled her away from the situation. Now I could definitely feel her cold hands shaking from both situation.
I knew how she felt about the male sex touching her so I immediately let go when I knew she was following me.
She was my cousin, how could I not look after her when she was everywhere I was. It was like it was meant to be. Like God telling me I needed to have her back.
We were out of the epicenter of the Christmas market and it felt like Maya was able to breath again. Was she having an anxiety attack or was she just at the wrong place?
"Wait," I yelled trying to catch up on her.
"Max I gotta go now," she replied.
You're welcome by the way.
"Where are you going?" I asked.
She stopped in her footsteps and faced me.
"Not that it's any of your business but I'm going home," she said.
She continued her walk as I was still walking behind her.
"Okay then I'm coming with-," I replied but was cut off by a girl screaming while jumping into Maya's arms.
Her friends? So she wasn't alone after all.
"Maya we were all looking for you," Daniya uttered relieved.
"Maya where were you, we were worried"
Of course HE was here.
"Max," he said when he saw me.
"Sameed," I replied rolling my eyes at him.
Sameed was about to say something until Maya gently pushed Daniya off her.
"You left me, you all left me" She said, looking to both Daniya and Sameed. I could see that she was trying to hold her tears back, but they were stronger than herself.
She started sobbing, "Maya I'm sorry but-," Sameed tried but it was at no use.
Maya stopped crying and interrupted Sameed.
"You're a fucking douche for leaving me alone in a place where I know nobody and don't you ever touch me like that again." She started shouting.
What did he do to her?
Her saying he touched her was enough for me to snap at him.
"What did you do to her?" I first slowly asked. I was facing Maya the entire time, I didn't want to face him as I would flip just seeing his unbothered expression.
"Nothing," he first replied looking towards me but then immediately faced Maya, "Maya come on." He added.
We all looked at Maya waiting for her to say or do something back. She was looking at Daniya instead. "You left me with him, just because you wanted to be haram doesn't mean I wanted to be alone with a guy too."
Daniya was shocked by her reaction and scoffed back at her. "Last time I'm doing something nice for you." Daniya replied followed by her walking the opposite direction. Her boyfriend followed her trying to calm her down but failed. As their voice slowly faded away as they were getting further and further away from us, Maya faced Sameed again.
"Maya you just had me shocked with what you said that's why I left," Sameed said trying to mend the situation.
He raised his hand trying get a hold of her shoulder. I grabbed his hand before he could touch her and pushed it back down.
"Don't touch her," I threatened.
Maya looked at me and shook her head.
"You're both the same," she said turning around. She didn't walk away but she just didn't want to face us anymore.
"I'm so sick of you Max, trying to be the hero and shit," he started shouting until people at the Christmas market could hear us argue. He continued his rambling, "what? Do you have a thing for her or what?" My jaw tightened with every word he uttered. He was jumping to conclusions without knowing what I was going through.
"Watch it Sam, I'm warning you." I threatened once again.
"You can have her, I'm done with her." Sameed said in the most arrogant way possible.
And then it all fell into place.
Maya turned around as an unimaginably anger took over inside her.
My fists were clenched and ready to swing, my jaw more tightened than ever.
He was faking it.
He was playing her this entire time.

Damn, it has been a long time. How are you all doing? Getting married anyone? No? Okay. 👀
Fun fact is that this chapter has been ready for months but I wasn't happy with it.
Will I be updating again soon? Probably not but hey, you never know. Right?
I genuinely love every single one of you and I hope with my whole heart that your life is going exactly as you want it to go.
