Chapter 35- Epilogue

September 19th, 2029- Four Months Later- Four Years Old- 8 Months Along-

Otabek's POV- 1st Person

"Sacha!" Yuri calls, poking his head into the living room, "Come help me set the table please!"

"You know I could do that," I tell him from my position leaning against the kitchen counter,

"She's old enough to put out silverware Beka," Yuri replies, a hint of mock-exasperation in his voice as the little girl runs in. "Thank you," He says, bracing himself on the table as he leans down, handing her the forks.

"That isn't the part I protest to," I tell him, coming over and helping him regain his balance after stooping to reach his daughter, "I take issue with you doing this at all,"

"Standing up?" Yuri counters, quirking an eyebrow,

"Making dinner," I reply, eyeing his stance as he rests a hand on his abdomen, "I wish you'd let me do it, while, yes, preferably, you'd sit down," Yuri rolls his eyes,

"First of all," He says matter of factly, his lips slightly upturned, "You're a terrible cook, and, while on a normal day I'd eat it," He gestures to his prominent bump, "That option is now out of the picture, plus Sacha wouldn't try a bit of anything you made."

"Rude," I reply,

"Ah, but true," Yuri grins, "And anyway, your worries are unfounded, I'm fine. There's another month and a half to go yet," He turns to open the oven, extracting a steaming tray of piroshki. And, while I know it undermines my own argument, my mouth practically waters at the sight. That doesn't stop me from intervening though.

Grabbing a potholder, I scoop the tray from his hands earning me a partially exasperated partially amused, "Beka!"

"Ha-ha," I say triumphantly as Yuri watches me, head cocked to the side, shaking it slightly.

"Fine, I give," He says, raising his hands in surrender, "If you really want to do the chores that much, who am I to protest," He grins slightly, an evil glint in his eye, "Especially the dishes afterward, who am I to deny you that joy." I roll my eyes as I set one of the buns on Sacha's plate where she sniffs it happily.

"You say that as if I wouldn't have done them anyway- Yuri?" I stop as my husband has just let out a small gasp of pain, his hand immediately going to his swollen abdomen while the other braces himself against the table.

"I'm fine, Beka," He says, waving me away, though his voice is breathy and strained. "Ah-"

"Yuri!" He doubles over in pain, hand clutching at the heaviest part of his stomach, trying to relieve the pressure. I'm at his side in an instant, dumping the tray of piroshki on the oven-top and supporting him as he struggles to remain upright.

"Dad?" I turn and see Sacha, her eyes wide and scared on the other side of the table, the piroshki lying abandoned on her plate.

"It's okay," Yuri gasps, "Don't worry honey, I'm fine,"

"Sacha," I say, in the levelest voice I can manage, "Why don't you go into the living room and grab my phone, you can call Uncle Victor and Uncle Yuuri to come over and play with you- can you do that for me?" She nods and scampers off and I mentally thank whatever deity is listening that I let Victor put his number in my speed-dial.

I keep my arms around my husband until his breathing evens out a bit and he opens his eyes, nodding at me slightly. "We're going," I tell him firmly,

"They're just Braxton-Hicks-" Yuri falters under the look I give him, not withering, but certainly leaving no room for debate.

"We're going," I say again,

"But Sacha-" He tries, though looks entirely exhausted even as he opens his mouth,

"Victor and Yuuri are coming," I say and wrap an arm around his waist, "Now," I continue, hoisting him gently to his feet though supporting the majority of his weight, "Let's get ready, I'll grab your coat." Knowing this is an argument he won't win, Yuri merely nods, and lets me help him from the room.

"Bed rest!" Yuri groans as we climb the stairs together, "This is so stupid- I'm fine!"

"You heard the doctor," I remind him gently, "It's the safest option to get you to term,"

"It's unnecessary," Yuri insists, "That doctor doesn't know what he's talking about, I'm not some fragile daisy or something, I won't break,"

"He has a point though," I tell him and he groans,

"God, not you too,"

"I'm sorry," I reply, "But it's true, I've been telling you for ages: you need to slow down," He shakes his head,

"I'm fine Beka," I raise an eyebrow,

"You're eight months pregnant and just went into early labor; you are not fine," I tell him gently and help him onto the bed, holding him upright as he navigates his abdomen to a satisfactory position without losing his balance. After doing so he carefully lies down, one hand resting at the prominence of his abdomen while the other threads through his hair,

"But Sacha-"

"I can handle Sacha," I tell him, taking his hand, "Just think about you. Whether or not you want it, your body is telling you to take a break," Yuri deflates and I know I've won,

"I know," He mutters, "But I don't want to just sit in bed all day, I feel useless,"

"You're not useless," I tell him gently, "You're pregnant, very pregnant, and need to rest," He glances at me, "Just let me take care of you, it'll be a nice break, I promise,"

A little while later, after making sure Yuri has all he needs and is situated comfortably on the bed, I return downstairs. Victor looks up from his game with Sacha as I approach,

"How is he?" He asks,

"Resting," I reply, "And not happy about it," He chuckles slightly,

"That's Yurio," I smile too,

"I just worry about him- this break has been a long time needed but I doubt he'll follow it. It's not good for him to carry on like this- the stress isn't healthy. He won't listen to me about it though," I sigh and shake my head slightly, "He's a force to be reckoned with when he wants to be."

"That he is," Victor agrees before glancing down at Sacha, playing happily with the pieces of Chinese Checkers, though definitely not in the capacity for which they were originally intended. "What if we took Sacha for awhile?" He suggests, "We could have a sleepover for a night or two and give you two a break, forcibly make Yuri relax." I laugh,

"Are you sure? A four-year-old and an eleven-year-old can't be easy to manage," He just waves it off,

"It'll be fine, the girls love each other, they'll be thrilled for a sleepover," He replies,

"Well," I say, "If you're sure, thanks, I really appreciate it,"

"No problem," He says smiling, then, turning to Sacha, "How would you like to hang out with us tonight?"

"Yeah!" She says happily, "Let's watch movies with Maria!" Victor turns to me, grinning,

"Movies with Maria it is,"

An hour and a half later, after making sure Sacha has everything she needs for staying the night at Victor and Yuuri's and saying goodbye on both mine and Yuri's behalf, the house is empty except for my husband and I, and I'm finally able to set my master plan in action.

Creeping up the stairs, I poke my head into the bedroom, finding Yuri lying safely on the bed, reading. I nudge open the door with my knee, coming into the room and setting the tray I carry down on the covers.

"What's this?" Yuri asks, setting his book aside and peering at the fruits of my labors. Well, not really my labors, unless you can call scooping ice cream and popping popcorn laborious. Yuri smiles slightly, the corners of his mouth quirking up as he surveys everything I've brought up, "You didn't have to do this," I smile back,

"That's what made it more fun," I reply, climbing into bed beside him and pulling the laptop up in front of us, turning on Netflix. "I thought we could have a date-night, just a stay at home one."

"Where's Sacha?" Yuri asks,

"Sleeping over at Victor and Yuuri's," I reply, clicking on our favorite movie, "Now," I say, "Are you ready to watch The Cutting Edge?"

Yuri laughs, "God yes, this movie is so bad it's hilarious,"

Leaning over to give my husband a kiss I murmur, "I love you," Yuri smiles,

"I love you too," And, pressing play, we cuddle under the covers, happy and complete.
