Chapter 2

After 'Saving', Storm headed up the stairs and through the doorway where Toriel was awaiting them.

"Welcome to your new home, innocent one. Allow me to educate you in the operation of the Ruins." She hummed, before stepping on four stone buttons and flicking a switch, causing a new door to open,"The Ruins are full of puzzles, ancient fusions between diversions and doorkeys. One must solve them to move from room to room, please adjust yourself to the sight of them."

Toriel then walked through the door, Storm walking forward and stopping as he tried to read a sign on the wall. They couldn't make out the words through.

"Oh! Eva can help." Eva smiled,"Only the fearless may proceed. Brave ones, foolish ones. Both walk not the middle road."

"W-what does that mean?" Storm asked, gaining a shrug from Eva before they both headed into the next room.

"To make progress here, you will need to trigger several switches. Do not worry I have labeled the ones that you need to flip." Toriel explained as she walked ahead.

Storm followed Toriel and approached a switch surrounded by yellow arrows and 'Please press this switch' writing.

Storm looked over at Toriel before flipping the switch. Toriel again walked ahead and Storm headed after her. This time there were two switches but Storm made sure to flip the obviously labeled one, causing a row of spikes to disappear.

"Splendid! I am very proud of you, little one." Toriel smiled,"Let us move to the next room."

After Toriel left, Storm wandered over to the other switch and flipped it... The switch didn't even work. Not wanting to waste anymore time, they followed after Toriel.

This time, all that was in the room was a dummy that Toriel stood beside.

"As a human living in the Underground, monsters may attack you. You will need to be prepared for this situation." Toriel warned him,"However, worry not! The process is simple. When you encounter a monster, you will enter a fight. While you are in a fight, strike up a friendly conversation. Stall for time, I will come resolve the conflict. Practice talking with this dummy."

Storm nodded slowly, walking up to the dummy. Eva smiled and floated around the dummy.

"Uh- Hi. You look... Nice, today." Storm told the dummy, although it didn't seem much for conversation.

Toriel seemed pleased,"Ah, very good! You are very good."

Toriel left the room and Eva giggled as she flew through the dummy,"Let's go! Let's go!"

Storm sighed and followed after Toriel as Eva happily floated behind them.

"There is another puzzle in this room. I wonder if you can solve it." Toriel hummed as her and Storm traversed the room.

Suddenly, a Froggit jumped out at Storm who froze up.

"Remember what Mama told you." Eva reassured Storm.

"Uh... You seem like a lovely monster." Storm told the Froggit.

"The Froggit didn't understand what Friend said, but it seems flattered anyway." Eva smiled.

Before anything else could happen, Toriel approached and glared disapprovingly at the Froggit until it hopped away.

The pair continued walking and reached a bridge full of spikes.

"This is the puzzle but..." Toriel looked between Storm and the bridge,"Here, take my hand for a moment."

Toriel took Storm's hand and carefully lead them across the bridge, the spikes disappearing as pressure was put on them. Eva seemed to be unbothered as she walked through the spikes in a straight line, unlike the path Storm and Toriel took.

"Eva's way was quicker." She put her hands on her hips, Storm didn't have the heart to tell her that he couldn't just walk through spikes.

"Puzzles seem a little too dangerous for now." Toriel shook her head as they entered the next room together,"You have done excellently thus far, my child. However... I have a difficult request to ask of you."

"A request?" Storm looked up at her.

"... I would like you to walk to the end of the room by yourself. Forgive me for this." Toriel then ran off.

'W-wait!" Storm tried running after her although they were left behind and couldn't see Toriel anymore.

They soon reached the end of the room and Toriel appeared from behind a pillar.

"Greetings, my child. Do not worry, I did not leave you. I was merely behind this pillar the whole time." Toriel reassured them,"Thank you for trusting me. However, there was an important reason for this exercise."

Storm tilted their head while Eva flew around without a care in teh world behind him.

"It was... To test your independence." Toriel told him,"I must attend to some business, and you must stay alone for a while. Please remain here, it's dangerous to explore by yourself."

Storm nodded slowly, Eva still up to hdd antics.

"I have an idea, I will give you a cell phone. If you have a need for anything, just call.' Toriel handed over the cell phone,"Be good, alright?"

Toriel then left the room and Storm sat down, leaning against the wall as Eva floated over.

"What is friend going to do?" Eva asked as she flipped upside down.

"I'm going to wait." Storm shook his head.

All of a sudden, the phone rang and Storm quickly answered.

"Hello, this is Toriel. My errands are taking longer than I thought they would. You might have to wait a little longer. Thank you for being patient." Toriel told them.

Toriel then hung up and Storm sighed, although they were willing to wait.

"Let's go." Eva floated towards the door.

"We- No, we can't leave. Toriel told us to stay." Storm shook his head quickly.

"Eva will lead you. Eva promises to keep you safe." Eva hummed.

Storm was hesitant but they soon got up, leaving the room with Eva leading the way.
