Chapter 21

(Jace's POV)

After a few minutes of awkward silence, my heart finally started beating at normal pace. Thankfully, Emmett spoke up.

"Our crush?" he asked raising an eyebrow at the both of us. Okay, maybe I spoke too soon. There was nothing to be thankful about when he started speaking..

Sighing, Aiden answered for him since I was too shocked to do anything.

"Yes, our crush. We've both liked her for quite some time now," he replied.

"And since when is that may I ask?"

"Around three months," I replied for him now speaking low.

"Okay. Where did you meet her?" he asked.

"At a park. Early morning strolls, we've seen her around the ice cream shack as well with another kid-"

"Who's the kid?" he asked cutting Aiden off. He laughed.

"What is this? Twenty questions? How in the freaking world do you expect me to know who he was?" Aiden spat.

Emmett just rubbed his temple sighing.

"I don't know what to do with you," he muttered.

"Of course," Aiden said rolling his eyes as he dragged the word. I could sense that a fight was going to happen if I didn't stop these two and that's what I did.

"Okay, guys. Stop it," I told them both.

They nodded avoiding eye contact- the both of them looking anywhere but me.

"We'll take it from the start, alright? I also have something to tell you Aiden," I told him. I guess now's the time to tell him about what I witnessed in school.

They both looked at me and gestured to continue.

"So, we first met her around three months ago as we had already told you, Emmett. Her red hair and green eyes were just so mesmerizing that-" I started.

"Straight to the point Jace," Emmett reminded.

I rolled my eyes. "Her features were what caught our attention. Days later, we saw her again and this time we followed her. She lives a few minutes away from the shopping alley-" I was cut off again. Seriously, this guy was getting on my nerves.

"Wait.. You stalk her?" he asked incredulously.

I scratched the back of my neck awkwardly. "Kind of,"

"You guys are unbelievable," he stated.

I sighed and raised my eyebrow asking him if I could continue or not.

"Fine. Fine, continue with your god damn love story," Emmett said.

"Thank you, Emmett. So, as we were saying that was where she lived. However, whenever we used to follow her- she never came out. We always used to think that the guy was her twin brother or something and that day her so-called "twin brother" volunteered to help me. He had a younger brother, Dylan- who I soon grew fond of. Much more days later, Aiden saw her in the park and had a little chat with her." I said.

"Quick please, I haven't got all day- Jace what was it that you wanted to tell me?" Aiden asked impatiently.

I held my breath and said the words I wasn't sure she would appreciate I spread out.

"Well, you know Alvin? Ashley and Alvin are the exact same people," I said.

Their jaws dropped open.

"So, you're telling me that Ashley, Alvin, and Ash are the exact same person?" Emmett asked after seconds of processing that information.

"Yes," I replied as they both let out a string of colorful words. If you see them swearing like crazy together, you'll know for sure they're related.

(Ashley's POV)

The pain in my rib cage was worth all the fight today. It was about time to tell them that they weren't any special in this world.

"Ashley!" my brother called out.

"Yeah?" I asked screaming since I was too lazy and much in pain to move.

"I need your help! I need you to explain this question! I don't know what the answer is!" he yelled back from our room.

"Which subject?" I asked.

"Math!" he shouted. He was really lucky that it was Maths or I wouldn't be helping right now..

"Coming!" I groaned as I lifted myself up and head towards the room. On the way, I saw dad sitting with a mug in his hand circling a few things on the newspaper with a red pen.

I entered the room with a curious expression.

"Dad, what are you doing here?" I asked as I sat down beside him and squinted my eyes as i tried to see what he was doing.

Unfortunately, he was too quick for me. "Nothing, just work." he replied to which I gave him a disbelieving look.

He sighed heavily. "I'm not lying, Roxy. I was circling a few job offers," he explained.

I gave in and nodded my head believing him.

"Alright, see you later then. Bye," I said as I gave him a wave.

"Now where are you off to?" he asked giving me a glare.

I chuckled. "To my room. Relax, will you?" I said as the smile stayed on my face.

Rolling my eyes and shaking my head, I went to my room. The first thing I saw when I entered was the sight of Dylan pulling his hair out in frustration.

I laughed at his reaction and when he realized I was there, he gave me a sheepish look.

"Need help?" I asked, pulling a chair and taking a seat beside him.

"Yes," he admitted.

"With what?" I asked as I stared down at his textbook to see what he was learning about.

"Maybe a bit of everything," he told me. This reminded me of the first time I tutored Jace. He had spoken the exact words..

"Let's get started then," I said as I let out a small chuckle.

"Yeah, maybe from the carrying and borrowing in addition," he told me frankly before we both turned serious again and I started explaining all the concepts.

Two hours later, we were both done. I had enough of the day and Dylan looked like he was about to pass out any second if he didn't go to bed.

"Goodnight, Dan," I told him before tucking him into bed.

"Night, Roxy," he said before I shut down the lights.

Now thinking about it, I have no clue how they got my nickname 'Roxy' all the way from my original name 'Ashley'. I guess they really liked my name and thought that it would be nice if they started it. I guess it was mom who started calling me that and then everyone joined in.

Speaking of mom, I can't even describe how much I'm missing her. She really was the joy of our house. Now even Dad and I parted away..

I shook my head to clear my thoughts away.

'Sleep tonight and worry about tomorrow,' my awful mind told me.

And for once, I agreed with it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Wake up!" I heard as I almost cried. The last thing I wanted to do today was go to school, but apparently my day has different plans.

I could literally feel Dylan move so much beside me and if not for the morning laziness, I would've slapped him for disturbing my very, very important sleep- lightly, of course.

"Ashley!" My dad specially called me- it was almost as id he knew that I would not get up.

"Ashley! If you don't get up this this instant, I'm going to come up and throw a bucket of cold water on your face!" he yelled.

I shot out of bed. It was true, it happened before.. he threw a bucket of cold water when I didn't get u and the worst part? Everyone was laughing- including mom.

I ran my hands down my face as I groaned and sulked to the idea of having a whole new day ahead of me.

Super fantastic! Note the sarcasm.

Dylan wasn't there beside me so it didn't take me a lot of geniuses to understand that he left way before I even woke up. Damn these kids and their ability to wake up early!

I closed my eyes and took a long breath before grabbing my clothes and heading into the bathroom. It was by gods grace that I managed to reach the bathroom door without falling asleep again.

The relief that passed over me when I reached was indescribable.

I turned over the knob but it didn't open. A frown took over my face. I tried to twisting it again but to no avail.

"Who's in there?" I demanded furiously.

"Your one and only sweet brother!" the voice yelled back.

What. The. Bloody. Hell?!?!

"I have to get in! Take your bath faster!!!" I started screaming.

"Too bad that I woke early," he replied smugly and even though I couldn't see him, I could imagine a smirk on his face.

I think I said this before but damn these kids and their ability to wake up!

I took in deep breaths to calm myself down. "Ten minutes," I said loud enough so he could hear and walked back into my room, all signs of sleep long gone.

I got in there and saw the messy room.

'I guess I'll be helping dad in cleaning our home today,' I thought as I stared into the helpless situation.

I got into work soon after considering that I only had ten minutes. Miraculously,  only the things used by Dylan were messy and being the nice one- I managed to clean up his side as well as mine.

Once I was done, I took a step back and craned my neck to look at it. To say I was impressed would be an understatement taking that I don't like cleaning up my room a lot. I nodded my head in appreciation and mentally patted myself on the shoulder.

Just on cue, I heard a door click and I knew for sure that Dylan had come out. My eyes widened and I raced to the bathroom door before it would be occupied again.

Thankfully, I got in time as this time the door opened and I rushed in and took a quick bath as my daily routine before tying my hair in a messy bun without caring to comb it.

I wasn't in the mood to comb my hair, so I decided that I'd just comb my hair today once I came back from school.

Once I left the bathroom I went into the kitchen where both Dad and Dylan were sitting in awkward silence.

Before anyone of them could say anything, I ruffled Dylan's hair and pinched his cheeks to annoy him. It worked and he was giving me one of those death glares that may as well work perfectly fine on his friends but not on me. Oh, I was definitely not intimidated by those looks he gave me.

"Good morning, my one-and-only-sweetest-brother," I air-quoted and then turned to dad, " And wonderful dad who tried to threaten me to pour a bucket of cold water on me."

They both shifted uncomfortably on their seats. The look on their face was priceless- a combination of fear and worry.

"Umm.. good morning," Dad said smiling innocently at me.

"Guess who woke up on the wrong side of bide today," I heard Dylan mumble but accidentally loud enough for me to hear. I shot him a glare.

These two were annoying me so much today that they'd put my bullies to shame.

"Goodbye," I told them before grabbing an apple from the basket nearby and waving.

"Oh, please! Not again!" Dad pleaded.

"Deal with him," I told him faking a smile and then slammed the door on their face.

The engine roared into life as I put the stand up and rode on it to my next destination with my earphones plugged into my ears.

I stopped by the bar as usual to change into my disguise and got out unnoticed.

Next stop was to school- the one place I hated with so much passion but couldn't do anything about. I needed a job for the future to provide for us and I really needed the money besides streetfighting so I had no other options.

I parked into school and was making my way inside when a pair of hands grabbed me from my collar and pulled me inside the janitor's closet.

"Wha-" I was about to swear but got cut off as a big, strong hand covered my mouth harshly but not hard enough to make it hurt.

"We know all about you," he said softly and my heart beat paced so fast upon hearing the words that I thought my heart would eventually explode.

Just as a bit of light fell over them, I gasped at what I saw.

Aiden was there looking at me straight in my eye- but beside him, Jace was there too...
