Chapter 16: The party never stops
I forgot to place an author's note in this chapter. I'm glad no one read it before I did. I hope you like how the prophecy begins and what the destiny has in store for Gabriel.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It has been already been two days since I sailed out. The first day was calm and the second full of cruise ships. It was quite a fun experience, you know? Just having gigantic metal boats about to crush you into pieces. Fun. As always, Mancel's reaction was none. He was talking to me through his powers of the morning. He could just transmit his voice to my head and instruct me like a bird watching from the sky. He just told me how to steer the wheel with calm as if nothing could hit me, but I was barely avoiding the ships. It only took a single wrong move to die. By the night I was thanking every god that I was alive.
At the first light of the day, I woke up to music, beach balls, and alcohol. A bunch of alcohol.
"Wh-where am I?" I asked Mancel who was now fully present sitting in the mast.
"So you woke up. Good. Here is where you will begin your quest: Miami. I wish I could help some more, but your prophecy was clear. You want to find a bunch of Chiron's brothers: The Party Ponies. They will tell you where to find the wolves. They go all over the country, so they should know," he answered.
"So... You are telling me I have to find a bunch of centaurs called Party Ponies mid a techno concert full of people."
"They are blind because of the mist. They must be seeing a bunch of very muscled dudes or something. Don't mind that. You'll be okay."
"If you say so..."
"You made a promise. It'd be wise to keep it. For you and for her."
"Yeah! Thanks for bringing me here and everything up until now. I really appreciate all you've done for Luna and me."
"You can thank me once you come back, okay? Good luck man."
As he said those words he disappeared in a gleam of light. Now it was all on me.
I had seen a bunch of videos and photos of these kind of parties but being in the middle of one was totally different. There were a lot of crazy girls bouncing everywhere and dudes pushing each other to flirt with the hottest gals. I had to force my way through, and even though I did, it would take the whole day to get out of the docks into the beach where all the people were. My boat was tightly placed behind me to a wooden column of the docks, and I couldn't try using it with so many people in the water. All I could think about was that time I somehow pushed Luna and Me out of danger from the sea serpent. That hadn't been fire. I must have had to be whatever links me to Poseidon. I never tried to use water but it was now or never.
I threw myself into the water. While maintaining myself a float trying not to drown, I closed my eyes and tried to focus. At first, I tried using my emotions like I do with the fire but it didn't work the same way. I wasn't doing a single thing. I tried for several minutes but nothing seemed to work. The sea grew stronger as I became weaker. I couldn't fight the strong tide for much longer.
A storm was beginning to form and the waves pushed me towards the wooden columns of the docks. I tried to swim to my boat but it was impossible. I was dragged too far while I closed my eyes. When another wave hit, I was knocked out by a blow to my head against the column. I lost my grip and the sea began to drag me deeper into it. The only thing I could do was scream for help and let out a few week blue flames with fear.
I was drinking too much sea water, it was hard to get enough air when I was on the surface, and the visibility of the beach was fading more and more. I really thought it was the end of my adventure. Even before it actually began... Suddenly, I felt a strong pull drag me out of the water in one go. I was now sitting on something firm that moved at great speed.
"Heck, water is such a party pooper," said a strange voice now below me. "Don't worry little half-blood we always have a plan b. There is this disco bar not too far from here where we can keep partying. Let's go shall we?"
While I was still trying to get my breath back and turn around to see who was speaking, a gust of wind almost threw me out of where I was sitting. It felt as if I'd jumped off a racing car. Except I was still in it. The stop wasn't pretty either. I almost hit a brick wall if it hadn't been for a dude that grabbed me mid-air. Also, I was partially dried by the speed. That was good.
"Well, who might this be?" Asked a new voice.
"Drowning half-blood at our party down Miami Beach." Said the guy that rescued me.
"Oh, then he is totally welcomed to join this one. Those who party are always welcomed.
It really took me very long to open my eyes and look around. Everything was blurry. There was water in my eyes and the wind that blew so strong made them shut tightly too.
"Are you alright little dude? Want some beer or Pepsi light? Here we have everything you want from yellow shots to m&m's.
While the blur cleared, I saw hooves becoming a torso. If these weren't related to Chiron, sure as hell I was screwed.
"Is this... Are you the Party Ponies?" I asked
"We sure are, bro," said a third centaur entering the bar.
"I need your help. I need to find—"
"Hi-hi--hooo-hold it right there little half-blood. We only help brothers in need. You want our help you must prove to be a bro. That or throw an awesome party. So what you say?"
"Fine... How do I become your bro?"
"Isn't it obvious?" All three centaurs laughed. "You party hard with us. All. Day. Long." A roar of approval then emerged from everywhere. Centaurs were all entering at once with many drunk teenagers behind them. I had only seen this kind of things happen in frat party scenes in movies. My many hours of boring Friday nights had prepared me for this. I now had to act like a stupid bachelor for at least 6 to 8 hours to get an answer.
Heck, it was a long afternoon. People yelling, bass dropping every ten minutes, bad snacks... It was a living nightmare. I had joined from time to time when there was something not techno or when one of the ponies was watching. By night at 12 everybody had emptied the place.
"So..." I said while yawning, "About the wolves, guys."
"Wow, little dude chill... Going so soon? It is now the time of the best parties. The night is the real deal."
I kept my act on, "Nah bro I'm no longer 'real party lit'. This DJ was a bump bruh. I'm no longer in the mood.' *dab* In my mind I was actually saying something like "I need a tongue soap! I need a tongue soap! Burn me in the fields of punishments right nooooow!"
"Too bad you felt like that little bro. Very well... If you wish to find those party poopers they are on Mt. Rushmore."
"Noooo dude," said one of the ponies on the bar. "Those are the Roman wolves. This little dude is Greek, remember?"
"Oooooh yeah true, true. Then we are taking Houston, Texas, but not for long. If you want to see her you better hurry bro. I heard she is going on a big hunt with some of her young psycho-girls chasing a mysterious force."
"How do I find them?" I asked.
"Take this," said the centaur in front of me as he tossed me a feather. "It can guide you to them. Take it as a gift from your new family, little bro."
An uproar of "woo" and "yeah"s boomed on the club. Then they all picked me up, and I found my way to the docks in a matter of seconds. I was on my boat again and the Party Ponies were all looking at me from the wooden planks of the dock.
"Take care!" Said one
"Don't trust parties with cheap lights," said another.
"Don't let them cut your head as soon as they see you. Especially since you are alone! They might want to hang you or skin you so don't make any false moves!" Said the last one before they unleashed my boat from the dock.
I was left speechless. I mean, those guys were a big problem, but they were also really good people...horses... let's leave it that they were good bros. Despite my differences with them, I would stay grateful to them. Now, going back to the problem... I realized I now had to set sail to Texas without Mancel's help.
You shall sail alone at night, huh... Seems it wasn't the last sail the one I was supposed to make alone. I had to go all out on this one if I was to get there in time. The question was how to use a feather to take me there. The feather pointed the way. That much I could tell but Mancel had told me what sea currents to take up until now. Without him, I could hit a coral riff anytime now.
I tried to talk to the feather, sing to the feather, pray to the feather, gods, I even praised the feather. Nothing happened. I just laid there on deck with a feather on my face. I fell asleep and for a second I thought I saw Luna. She took my hand and guided me to the wheel. There she put her hand on mine and disappeared leaving only her bracelet in my hand. I immediately woke up with the hopes of seeing her but all there was, was darkness and a feather in my hand.
I felt like crying. I looked at the feather, but now all I could see was Luna's hand on mine. I stood up and saw the moon shining brightly ahead of me. As I extended my hand to reach the face of my muse while the other felt the coldness in my chest around the sigil and held tight with hatred, the boat seemed to have accelerated. For a moment, the whole thing moved forward very fast. I now got the idea of what I could do with my Poseidon powers.
My only idea was that I could only use the power when I am thinking of someone I want to protect. At least, for now, that was my only theory, and I was more than willing to take it. I thought of my last moments with Luna and with the image in my head I extended my hand into an image of Luna's hand and the boat began to move rapidly in the direction I pointed.
"Psycho-girls, or wolves, or whatever that might skin me... here I come." I said. Then after meditating a few seconds about it... "Just to be clear," I said to the skies, "If anybody is seeing me up there in Olympus; that sounded much, much better in my head."
