Chapter 61: Betrayal

||

~No one's POV~

||

Y/N knew something was wrong.

The way Jimin's eyes held all the emptiness, the way his shoulders were drooped, the way his face had less color than the whitest paint.

She knew something was horribly wrong.

Every one of the Song gang gathered here knew something was wrong.

"What did you find Jimin?" Hoseok asked in all seriousness.

He knew the trip was not as dangerous as Y/N had made it to be. When people get older in a field, they stop being careful. The same went for the Kims. Maybe because they hadn't been as scarred as Y/N had been, but Hoseok knew that the trip wouldn't be that hard for Jimin.

Cutting the four hours of travel from Sokcho-si to Seoul, he knew Jimin would be safe. He would be okay.

But looking at Jimin now, he knew he was wrong.

Jimin was not okay.

Jimin simply pushed a worn-out file forward.

The cover had paled due to years of sitting on the shelves, and probably the papers had also turned yellow. Everyone looked at Jimin, confused, until he turned the cover and everybody gasped.

They thought he found a clue.

Or maybe an answer about Giho.

Something.

But nothing prepared them for what the file was actually about.

Song Youngsoo.

Y/N swiped at the file, her eyes widening in the slightest.

With every word she read, her shocked expression turned into one of disbelief.

"Youngsoo was with the...Kims?"

Y/N froze, taking in the enormity of the situation. If this was true, if this was in any way possible, then they were too much in danger than they originally thought.

Y/N reread the pages, hoping that if she read enough times the words would change.

Into something she could accept.

Something that wasn't this heartbreaking.

But it stayed the same. Youngsoo was aiding the Kims with their attacks. They had known the Kims were involved, but they didn't know their own comrade was a backstabber.

Yoongi slowly took the file out of her hands.

As he read the words, his frown turned into disbelief.

"This can't be...he can't..." Yoongi denied shaking his head.

And yet the file proved it.

Why on earth would the Kims have a detailed account of each incident that has happened to the Song gang?

It was something no one in the whole underworld knew. The attacks were all kept silent because no one should know what has been happening with the Song gang.

No one knew three warehouses had been demolished.

No one knew Y/N had personally gone and killed off four of the mafias on her trail.

No one knew two of her safe houses were investigated thoroughly due to the leak of information.

No one.

And yet, the Kims knew everything.

"Why would he do that..." Y/N whispered, her hands running through her hair, messing it up and mirroring her inner turmoil.

The silence hung heavy in the air. No one dared to speak anything.

"It makes sense," Jungkook said when no one spoke.

All eyes turned to him.

"Only Youngsoo could tell about the safehouses we have. Only he knew about the defense alarms. Only he knew exactly how-" Jungkook broke off at the end.

He couldn't bear to say that aloud.

Only he knew exactly how to break us.

Y/N put a hand to her mouth to stop the sob that broke through her.

A sharp intake of breath was followed by Hoseok wrapping his arms around Y/N, in an attempt to console her. Y/N just leaned into the hug not wanting to cry.

Even though it hurt, she still couldn't lose control.

Everyone was breaking, piece by piece.

Everyone was hurt in their own way.

"I can't believe...I let him fucking touch me..." Maria whispered as her mind played memories of him, under the moonlight, both lost in each other.

"I...I let him..." Tears spilled from her eyes as she stared at the file in front of her.

"I loved him..." Maria whispered to herself, horrified.

Maria stepped back till she hit the couch, sitting on it, her knees too weak to keep her upright. She was vulnerable, unable to tear her eyes away from the name on the file, the name she once loved with all her heart, the name that brought warmth to her whole fucking soul, the name she once cherished with all of her.

It now only brought distaste.

Jimin side-hugged her petite frame as Maria broke down into sobs.

Y/N's heart broke as she saw the most beautiful couple she had ever seen break apart.

She knew Maria and Youngsoo loved each other, dearly. Both were made for each other. She had seen their stolen glances, their intertwined hands, their shy smiles. Seeing them made Y/N feel like love was the best feeling in the world.

But seeing her now, crying because she had made the mistake of giving her heart to a traitor? It made her feel disgusted. How could you hurt the people you loved so dearly?

Traitor.

Y/N's heart wasn't ready to accept it but her mind was already made.

Youngsoo was a traitor.

It hurt to think of it.

It wasn't possible and yet it was true.

He betrayed them.

And she could never forget that.

Not for her, not for Yoongi, he could've at least thought about Maria?

But he didn't.

Y/N looked at Yoongi and gasped.

Yoongi.

He was Youngsoo's bodyguard for fuck's sake, he must be feeling the worst blow of the betrayal. And yet Yoongi's calm facade never broke, his eyes never wavered.

He just stared at the file, emotionlessly, without any feelings.

Because he couldn't feel anything. He had been with Youngsoo for seven years. He had seen the boy grow, he had seen him fall, and he had seen him get up.

He didn't think he would ever see him stand against them.

He felt stained. Like it wasn't Youngsoo who had turned back on them, it was he who had stabbed them.

Because he was the one who taught Youngsoo everything.

How to use weapons.

How to protect yourself from harm.

How to stay inconspicuous.

How do the defense systems work.

How to build a firewall.

How to disguise yourself.

How to be the perfect mafia.

It was all that Yoongi taught him. How ironic it was that now even they could not find Youngsoo even after all this time. He used to smile at himself when he was alone, knowing that it was his training that led to Youngsoo hiding so effortlessly.

Who knows he might be living a normal life by now?

He wasn't.

He was only waiting.

Waiting for the right time.

To stab them all.

They all felt a jumble of emotions that they couldn't discern.

But they shared one emotion.

Betrayal.

And no one would forget that.
