Chapter 57: Empty Dreams

~Flashback~

Jimin turned off the shower head, he was too tired now. He just needed sleep.
After he had been dropped at home by Yoongi, he hadn't gone into his house where he was sure to see disapproving looks from his parents.
He had, instead, walked to the nearest bus station and taken up a bus for Seoul.
Here, he had joined the trainee position he had auditioned for. He got selected in the first round, something he didn't think would be possible.
But now it was only due to his hard work and determination he was going to get a scholarship to the Dance Academy in England.
Until a letter came three days ago saying the seats are full and he should apply next year.
He had always wanted to learn to dance professionally, and this was his chance. He could finally pursue his passion as his career, and finally, do something on his own. But all his hopes crashed as soon as he read that letter.
He soon fell asleep on the bed in the rented apartment he had been living since the last six months. He always practiced dancing, even though his application was rejected now.
He was again spiraling into the dark days of despair but he was always reminded of the crazy girl who sang Levitating in her drunken state, ruining his plans of dying.
He would often wonder what might have happened to the crazy girl. She had accidentally saved his life, a decision he would have surely regretted.
As sleep was about to come, Jimin was disturbed from his slumber by a loud shrieking voice.
He couldn't make out the words but he didn't want to listen. So he pulled his pillow over his head to block the noises.
"...who are you?..."
"...please help us...we just need some water..."
"...we don't let in homeless people...go away..."
"...just a glass of water please-"
A door slammed shut.
Jimin stood up suddenly, sleep forgotten.
"The voice, I have heard it before," Jimin went out to look from the window, and sure enough, he could never forget that girl ever.
"The crazy girl?" Jimin muttered confused.
As she came under the light, he noticed her clothes were covered in blood. Jimin's body chilled, a shiver running down his spine.
Blood?
Was she injured?
Jimin took his blanket and went downstairs, only to see the girl limping away from the house. The landlady that lived below her muttered obscenities about how everyone just mugged up to get free food without work.
Jimin ignored her and ran to the girl.
"Hey, you! Stop, wait!"
The girl glanced over her shoulder to see Jimin running towards her with a blanket flailing behind him. Before she could react by running or getting out of the way, Jimin wrapped her in the blanket.
"You must be cold, let's get you inside then we can clean your wounds." Jimin guided her by her shoulders and she followed him, too weak to resist.
Once inside, the girl hesitated to sit on the couch. Jimin laid down another sheet so she could sit on it.
He brought her a glass of water, and she gulped it all in one breath. Jimin refilled it and she drank it until the third glass.
"Thank you so much," The girl said in a hoarse voice.
"No need. You have saved me once, I owe you a favor," Jimin smiled at her.
She looked at him confused.
"I don't recognize you from anywhere," She began uncertainly.
"But I do," Jimin said as he went inside to grab a medical kit. As he was frequently injured during dance practices, the basic kit was necessary.
Jimin took the antiseptic and checked on her wounds.
"Are these burns?" Jimin asked in shock.
She nodded.
"How on earth did you even get them?" Jimin said as he again went inside to get some water. Wetting the paper towels, he gently cleaned the blood off her hands as she explained.
"My house caught on fire. My parents are now dead, and my brother is missing. Two other people who were always with me, I can't contact them anymore. So I was asking for help from the lady downstairs, she thought I was a mugger." She winced as Jimin cleaned the wounds but didn't stop him.
"What about the two guys, Yoongi and, what was his name, Hoseok?" She froze.
She snatched her hand away, leaning backward away from Jimin. "How do you know them?", Her voice trembled slightly and Jimin wondered why was she reacting like this.
"You don't remember, but once you were drunk and bumped into me. At that time they both came to take you. That's how I know you and them." Jimin tried to explain.
"Who are you?" The girl was basically hyperventilating now.
"Hey, hey, calm down I swear I'm not a serial killer!" Jimin stepped back from her, throwing his hands up as a gesture of surrender.
"I don't believe you." She narrowed her eyes at him. "Why would you save my life if you had nothing to gain with it? I will ask again, who are you?"
Jimin sighed. He could see it was her trauma speaking but he was still feeling annoyed.
"I was going through a rough time and would have probably ended myself if you hadn't bumped into me that day. I am just returning the favor out of humanity!" Jimin explained.
The girl shut her eyes. "Why?"
"Because that's what everyone should do. Help people in need!" Jimin said exasperatedly.
"If you knew who I am you won't help me." The girl muttered slowly.
"I would. I know I would." Jimin said confidently.
The girl sighed and pushed her arm towards him, making Jimin smile as he cleaned the wounds. After they were all cleaned, Jimin boiled some water to make the instant noodles for her to eat.
As she was eating, Jimin asked her questions.
"How did your house catch fire? And where do you live? And how come no one has noticed yet?"
"I have no idea who did it. My house is on the outskirts, and I ran in my bike but it broke down the way, so I had to walk here." She said, slurping on the noodles.
"And what is your name? I didn't remember it from that day either!" Jimin added shyly.
"Y/N. Song Y/N," Y/N answered.
"Y/N sounds nice." Jimin complimented her.
"Thanks," Y/N replied, taking the noodles in her chopsticks.
"Where will you go from here?" Jimin asked. concerned.
"I don't know. Maybe to my old house. Or to Yoongi Oppa's house. I will be safe anywhere." Y/N shrugged.
"And your...parents?" Jimin asked hesitantly.
Y/N stopped eating and looked up at him. "I was born to be alone. Even though my parents are dead, they will always be with me as memories. I will make them proud either way."
As Jimin smiled at her, someone knocked on the door.
Jimin gestured to Y/N that he will open the door. He was thinking about who might be at this hour when the door opened to reveal Yoongi and Hoseok.
With a gun.
Jimin didn't even have time to scream when Yoongi pointed his gun at him.
His voice died in his throat.
"Where is- You?" Yoongi lowered the gun, confused, as he saw Jimin in the doorway.
They had tracked Y/N's location through her geode necklace, but they didn't expect Jimin to be here too.
"Why do you guys have a gun?" Jimin said shakily.
"Holy shit- Oppa put that down!" Y/N said from behind him.
Jimin looked at Y/N and then at the two guys in the doorway.
"I can explain," Hoseok said as he entered the door and ushered Yoongi inside. Once inside, Jimin knew either he kept quiet or he was dead.
And also that he had unknowingly entered the world of the Mafia.
