Chapter 17
"Hey! What a pleasant surprise." She exclaimed.
When I looked at her from head to toes, I was shocked to see that she was in the same outfit that I saw in my dreams, a short skirt which was brown and a white blouse.
"Hi." I answered shockingly.
"What? Such a dull 'hi'? Aren't you happy to see me?" Florence said.
"No... It's just that..... You hair... I thought they were black." I said.
"They are black." She said with a smile as she fixed her eyes at me.
"But... They're brown right now?" I explained, still in confusion.
"Are you sure? Look at them well." She said, still watching me and turned herself so I could see her hair.
To my surprise, they were indeed black. But I saw them some minutes before and they were brown!
I stared at her hair with my mouth opened.
She turned to face me and snapped her fingers.
"I guess you just woke up and you're still sleepy." She said as she chuckled.
Maybe she was right. I was feeling tired too. After all, sleeping next to Ryan was the hardest thing to do on earth.
I smiled at her, breaking up with my thoughts.
"Yeah maybe." I replied.
"So, how are you.. And how's Ryan?" She asked as she took a step back.
The line at the bakery was getting smaller now. The workers were doing their work quicker and I was not happy about that. I wanted them to attend the customers waiting in the line as slowly as they could so that I could spend more time with my umbrella girl.
"I'm fine. And Ryan too," I said as I took a step forward to reach near her.
"He's feeling better now." I completed.
"Okay. I am really sorry. You had to go through all of this because of me." She said. She looked sad.
"No. It's not your fault. It's my....." I was going to tell her everything about me sending Shane after her but then I immediately stopped. I knew she would be angry and would hate me for that. Any girl would react negatively. Hence, I stopped on the spot.
"Your what?" She asked.
"My.... Ummm my friend's.... You know Shane. It's my friend Shane's fault." I stammered.
"The sun is scorching. Can I enter under your umbrella?" I asked, trying to change the topic.
"Oh no no!" She exclaimed. Her facial expression changed too.
"What?" I asked.
"It's just that... I don't want anyone to see us and misunderstand us." She said as she bowed her head down.
That made sense. Any girl would feel like that. I started to curse myself in my mind for being such a stupid jerk in front of Florence. We just met and I already wanted to get close to her. I felt ashamed.
"I understand. I'm sorry." I apologised as I scratched my head.
