Title and Book Cover : (1-10) → 9

The title matches with the story very well! I love it though how the author always tells or describes the place namely “Nocturna Haven” very well! And the cover also is so hot lol

Blurb : (1-10) → 8

The blurb is intriguing like it’ll drag people to read the whole story!

Plot/Creativity/Originality : (1-20) → 18

I found the plot so far had many twists and I like how the author kept mentioning Nocturna Haven in every chapter!

Character Development : (1-20) → 18

Isabella is the type of female lead who loves fictional horror characters like vampires -just like me back then when i was young-. So, I can relate with the book, how the author poured her emotion out in this book, I love it, I can feel it.

Her name herself also kind of reminds me of Bella from Twilight -my favorite movie about Vampires and Werewolves-. So, the story made me feel some kind of nostalgic feelings where I used to be hyped over these types of books or movies!

Story Flow : (1-10) → 9

The story flow is going smooth and sweet, especially the chapter when the female lead and male lead are about to do the wild things as I had expected lol but yet oh okay maybe not now, they’re going to do that! Lmao, what a plot twist indeed! I love it!

Grammar : (1-10) → 9

I found no grammatical errors, which is all good.

Writing Style : (1-10) → 9

The writing style is great! It makes you as a new reader want to read more and be curious always!

Overall Engagement and Enjoyment : (1-10) → 9

I’d like to rate this book a 9. Looking forward to this book to end, or else have a twist ending! lol

Overall Score : (1-100) → 89

Title and Book Cover - 8.5/10

I adore both the title of the book and the profound meaning encapsulated in it, seamlessly woven into the narrative. It complements the book exceptionally well. What enhances my appreciation for the title even more is the contrasting elements it holds.

The font of the title is distinctive, grabbing attention effortlessly and ensuring easy readability. The strategic placement of the title adds to its accessibility, making it a breeze to engage with.

As for the cover itself, I wasn't particularly drawn to the image, though it does possess clarity. It doesn't precisely convey the essence of the book, but it presents a refreshing departure from the typical covers in this genre. I still find merit in it as it signifies the uniqueness of this book.

Blurb - 10/10

I appreciated the concise and precise nature of the blurb; that's precisely why it appealed to me. While offering minimal details about the plot, it successfully piqued my curiosity about the main character and the overall narrative. The grammar and punctuation were impeccable.

Plot/Creativity/Originality - 19/20*

The species of the main character caught me off guard because I've never encountered such a concept in a book before—usually, it's the common theme of being half-werewolf and half-vampire. The author adeptly blended two mythical creatures, resulting in a pleasantly surprising twist.

The book unquestionably shines in the creativity department. From vivid descriptions of places and the names associated with them to the unique customs of the species, the author has successfully crafted a captivating world that easily immerses the reader.

I found myself reading the first ten chapters twice, not wanting to overlook any details or misunderstand the narrative. On both occasions, I thoroughly enjoyed the story. However, I couldn't help but feel that the plot unfolded a bit too early, despite initially thinking it was at the right moment.

*Note for the score: Plot - 18, Creativity - 20, Originality - 20 (19+20+20=58; 58:3=19,(3); overall note 19/20)

Character development - 14/20

The characters are all well-crafted, and it's evident that the author has a genuine concern for them. Each character possesses distinct traits and personalities. Those introduced in the initial ten chapters I read are distinctly influenced by the customs of their respective species, and I appreciate the meticulous attention to detail.

While I didn't necessarily feel a strong personal connection to any of the characters, the thought of any of them getting hurt or, hopefully not, worse would undoubtedly evoke a sense of sadness in me.

My sentiments about the main character are somewhat mixed. Despite the ability to sense her emotions, I believe there is room for a deeper exploration to make her more lifelike. Given her youth, there's potential for character development as the story progresses.

On the whole, the characters show a subtle maturation in the brief span of the first ten chapters, yet it's clear they still have a considerable journey ahead of them.

Story flow - 7/10

Certain sections of the narrative felt hurried, but this could be remedied by incorporating additional details, vivid descriptions, or even introducing flashbacks.

Grammar - 10/10

Everything here is flawless, without a single issue. The punctuation is also commendable; while there may be a few missing commas, they don't disrupt the overall reading experience.

Writing style - 8/10

The writing is straightforward and to the point, employing uncomplicated language that results in an easy-going reading experience. As a non-native English speaker, I found this approach favorable, although a native English speaker might lean towards a more sophisticated vocabulary. Given that the book falls within the Young Adult genre, the choice of vocabulary is fitting, making it an ideal choice for a relaxed read after work or school.

Overall engagement and enjoyment - 10/10

As a reader, I can unequivocally express my love for this book. The captivating world-building is what truly captivated me, leaving me eager to delve deeper into the traditions and rules of the various species. What I particularly cherished was the inclusion of a map featuring the locations mentioned in the book, facilitating a clearer understanding of the unfolding events. The palpable tension between the characters was another element that compelled me to keep turning the pages.

Let’s not forget about the ranks in each species which was chef’s kiss.

Overall score: 86.5/100

For our third 🥉 place winner!

Book Title : The Smirk of an Oracle || Choi Yeonjun ||

Username : strawberry1d

Read and judged by ratihfarida20

Please PM me SapphirianJ82 with your email so I can send your winning sticker for download. 😍

Title and Book Cover : (1-10) → 8

The title is intriguing, so far, it matches the plot. The book cover is good. But anyway, the sub title under the main title, what is that? I can’t seem to read that. So, please, the writer, enlighten me a bit.

Blurb : (1-10) → 8

The blurb is good, it makes me want to read more. But I think I found some typos, like in this one -i give in some underline- “Korean -Mexican Chai Luna is a painfully shy and reserved girl who has been shipped of with her younger brother to South Korea to live with their Korean grandma after a tragedy.”

That should be “Korean -Mexican Chai Luna is a painfully shy and reserved girl who has been shipped off with her younger brother to South Korea to live with their Korean grandma after a tragedy.”

Other than that, it’s all good. The small mistakes could be worked upon.

Plot/Creativity/Originality : (1-20) → 18

The plot makes you curious whether the male lead -Yeonjun- will be her soulmate or not, just to break the curse that Luna had. Even though I am wishing for such a twist ending lol but still it’s quite saddening if both of them won’t end up together, just like Luna or Yeonjun that have to end up dying for that curse. It’s like I'm not ready for the sad/angst ending as a reader.

And since I saw that this book is still ongoing and there have been other books that already wrote/created about the curse theme, like, you have to find your soulmate just to break the curse. This type of book might sound cliche. So, it is like homework for the author to keep the story unique, creative, and original till the last chapter! But so far, the author is doing a good job! So, keep it going to the end!

Character Development : (1-20) → 15

The characters are like those typical cliche female leads and male leads, where the guy is popular and the girl is unpopular and shy. So, I want a good development for the girl, like, even though she's invisible, she's strong and not easy to get bullied by that Yeji -the it girl- at school -the female that Yeonjun was smitten for-

Story Flow : (1-10) → 8

The story flows smoothly like butter so far. So, yes, I enjoy the flow!

Grammar : (1-10) → 7

So far, the grammar in the story content is good. I don't find any mistakes while reading. Even if there’s any in the future while re-reading, I don't think that's the huge problem since the author ever mentioned that English isn’t her first language. So, it could be worked upon, and there’s always been that editing method/process the author could use.

Writing Style : (1-10) → 8

The writing style is great and unique! That makes you want to read more of the book!

Overall Engagement and Enjoyment : (1-10) → 9

I’d like to rate this book a 9. It captivates you to dive into the story and wishing that the book could be completed soon lol

Overall Score : (1-100) → 81

Review :

The book is great. The title is intriguing, matches with the plot, where the female lead is the oracle –she had a power whose be able to see the future by her vision-

The book cover is good as well, just like the blurb, it makes me want to read more. Even so, there are any small mistakes that could be worked upon.

The plot is captivating, making you guess any possibility for the sad or happy ending, since the book is still ongoing though.

The characters might be cliche but I'm wishing for the better development for a female lead! Like, in the further chapters, she could be strong and unbreakable!

The story flows smoothly like butter, and the grammar is all good.

The writing style is great and unique! And I’d like to rate this book a 9 as I am wishing for the book to be completed soon! Keep on writing till the end, author!
