Chapter 35: Emotion

Rosalyn

A month later.

After the coordinated attack on our pack, we treated our injured, buried our dead, including my uncle Damon and Emmett's best friend Paul's dad, along with so many others.

My dad stayed for weeks at the hospital. Even with his wolf healing, there were so many bites he was even in the I.C.U. for a while. Because he's Alpha, he was targeted. And honestly, I don't how he survived. But what I do know is: he probably took some bastards with him!

There were more than 100 dead wolves collected from the woods and outskirts of the city. And I'm talking about just the other side! We lost almost 50 people, among warriors and other pack members. Not to mention countless of others injured. It was bad! We didn't go to school for a week. It would be more but the adults wouldn't let us.

Alpha Casper and Luna Lauren, from the Blood Moon pack, came with 15 warriors to lend us a help in protecting the pack, as our warriors were almost decimated. They were the first to fight and suffered the most casualties.

Unfortunately, Lauren also lost her father in the attack. She came for his funeral as well. So did Mike, dad's old friend who was mated to a Blood Moon warrior. He lost a brother.

Of course, all our allies visited us and sent us warriors. That's the whole point of an alliance.

And though the visitors left, the warriors they sent would stay here for as long as we needed them. And that is comforting. Though another attack like this is very unlikely, there's always a rogue or two.

John and Matt are staying with us because of the situation with his parents. Poor John, I felt sorry for him. We tried to be there for each other this whole time but the best that we could do was hold each other close and dry each other's tears. Which was nice and helped a lot.

It's Monday. We're at the dining hall having breakfast. There're so many empty seats, I had to block from my viewing otherwise I'd start crying all over again.

"So, son, how is your mate these days? I haven't heard from her in a while!" - Dad asked, he was still healing but he looked a lot better.

"She's fine, dad. We've been texting and seeing each other at school lately. She heard what happened from her dad and texted me to make sure I was safe. It's nice." - Emm told us, smiling softly.

"That's good, son. I know it hurts right now and will still hurt for a long time. In some cases forever, as one never recovers from the loss of a mate." - He said, looking at my uncle's widow.

"But we have to move on somehow, someway. If anything, for our children who are the future of the pack." - Dad continued. He was deeply saddened. The loss of his little brother took a giant toll on him. Not to mention what happened to uncle Nate and aunt Denise.

"Tony, how is Denise?" - Daddy asked him. Tony survived with a few bruises and bites, but aunt Denise barely did. She's still at the hospital.

"She's hanging in there, Felix. You know Denise, not even death can remove her from Delta!" - He joked with a sad tone. We laughed. It's true.

"John, how is your mom coping..." - Dad started but got interrupted.

"She doesn't leave the hospital, uncle! She pulled so many double shifts this last month, I think my brother and I are going to Disney next summer!" - He joked, but sounded deeply worried.

"I'm going to the hospital as soon as I finish here." - Daddy spoke, also concerned. He looked so sad for his nephews and sister.

"I don't need to tell you how hard I took this attack. Or how heartbroken I am at the loss of my  little brother. You've all seen me. But I pray to the Goddess everyday that my other two siblings get out of this alive." - Dad stated as he raised his glass. Tears fell from his eyes.

John looked at him with faint hope. But I too prayed for my aunt and uncle. John worshiped his dad and if he dies, he would never recover from it. Ever!

We finish breakfast and get ready for school. As sad as we were, life still goes on. And classes wait for no hurt or grieving werewolf.

Emmett

It's the highlight of my day!

After the shit show that has been this past month, losing my uncle and almost losing my dad, the Alpha of our pack, whenever I got the chance to see Sam it's the only time I smiled.

At school, she approaches me with a timid grin and greets me.

"Morning, Emm. How is your aunt and uncle doing?" - She asked me, timidly.

"Hi, Sam. They're still at the hospital, you know, so keep them in your prayers." - I said with a hopeful look. But the reality was my dad's siblings were hit the hardest by the attack. Uncle Nate fell into a coma and aunt Denise is still under heavy medication and hospital apparatus.

"I will. And how is your dad coping?" - She inquired.

"As expected, he took it really hard. You know, his little brother died. But he's trying to put on a brave face for us. And is hopeful for the remainder of his siblings." - I told her with a sad tone.

"Well, hang in there. See you later." - She said and goes to her class.

As you can probably guess by now, we haven't been on any more dates since last month. But seeing her was the best part of my day. We talked and texted a lot lately, so that's also nice.

However, the worst part was seeing Paul. Not that I didn't like seeing him or anything, but he took the loss of his dad really hard, as is to be expected. I tried to cheer him up and have been there for him for the last month. But there's nothing I could do, really.

"So Paul, not even a dream, nothing?" - I asked him during lunch. He is less than a week away from turning 18.

"No, bro. But I'm still hoping to be mated to your sister, don't take it the wrong way." - He snickered. It's not exactly a secret that he has a crush on Ros, the only reason why he didn't pursue her was out of respect for our friendship. Or so I hoped. And obviously now that she has John it's a non starter.

John glared him so many daggers I half expected a punch. Rosalyn wasn't happy either.

"Gross!" - I looked and sounded disgusted.

"Ewl! No offense, Paul. But I don't want to be your mate." - Rosalyn stated, grimacing.

"Neither do I." - John croaked with a death stare at him.

"You can't be my mate, John, you're too young for me!" - Paul snickered. That's not what John meant and we knew it. John glared at him even more intensely.

"Sorry John, you snooze, you loose!" - He joked. It was the first time I've seen him smile in a month. But what teenage boy wouldn't grin at the prospect of... you know.

"I haven't snoozed once in my life! And do you seriously think the Moon Goddess paired my girlfriend with a guy right next door and NOT tell her about it? She would already be planning her ascension party at this point! - John snickered. Rosalyn laughed. Paul does live close to us.

"Wait! If Paul is Rosalyn's mate that means she'll ascend? Didn't you tell me that even if she found her mate now, she can't become Alpha cause you've already found yours?" - Sam asked me, suspiciously. We all gasped at the realization.

"Yes, I did said that. But you have to understand, we're not mated yet, technically. I know you're my mate, of course I do. But my point is: it doesn't count until I'm 18. So that means if Rosalyn is mated first with an older guy, she'll ascend. Especially since she knows Paul since forever." - I explained to her, painfully. She gasped.

"But that also means that Paul wouldn't be Beta, right?" - She asked, quizzically.

"Right! No, I would be Luna. So Rosalyn would have to choose a Beta for herself. Probably..." - Paul replied, pointing at John. He did not look happy. Neither one of them.

"This story keeps getting better and better!" - Sam snickered, looking at all of us. There was a moment of silence. Then...

"I still can't believe some girl you never saw before will take one look at you and fall in love!" - Sam spoke with serious doubt in her voice.

We all laughed.

"It's not magic, Sam, she doesn't fall in love at first sight. But she will want to stay close to me. And we'll grow from there. It's not THAT easy! You still have to date and get to know each other. The only difference is: we will already be crazy excited for one another because of the pheromones." - Paul explained.

"Yes, Sam. It's not as simple as it sounds. But we do get a little help from the Goddess." - Rosalyn spoke.

She still looked a little suspicious.

"I know it seems crazy from a human perspective, but from a werewolf perspective it's natural. We're raised on this as all our parents were paired that way. Paul's parents didn't even know each other till the day they've met. She wasn't even from our pack!" - I said this and watched his face crack. Fuck!

"Sorry, Paul. I'm so sorry for bringing it up!" - I apologized, gutted.

"No, it's fine. It's a great story! My mom was about to die by his dad." - He pointed at me. - "But my dad shifted back into human and begged him to spare her life as he'd just found out she's his mate!" - He told her with a sad smile.

"Why was your dad going to kill his mom?" - She asked me, sounding scared.

"Because daddy had just been attacked by a rogue. And he thought she was in it too. She wasn't, thank Goddess! Or Paul would never have been born!" - I replied in a somber tone.

"We have a pack law that states: you can't lay a hand against someone's mate, unless said hand was raised against you first. And she hadn't. So dad couldn't kill her." - I explained.

"It's crazy, but I get it. I mean, don't mess with anyone unless they mess with you." - Sam observed.

"Exactly! It's one of the greatest love stories of our whole pack, Paul's parents. I mean, apart from the 'straight' werewolf who got mated to a guy!" - I smirked. My sister, John, Sarah, Paul and Georgia laughed.

"That means Paul can be paired with a guy too?" - She joked.

"Goddess, Sam, why would you say this? I need a female mate. I need a girl!" - Paul looked devastated.

"Sorry. You're totally getting a girl! Hey, they're available, right?" - She said as she points at the girls, who grimaced.

"I think we better leave or someone will break the law on you!" - I snickered, looking at Sam.

"Fine!" - She scowled.

We left the table and went to another place, after we returned our trays.

"So..."- I started as we arrived at an empty corner of the school. - "Can I kiss you?"

She gasped. I don't think she expected that right now. But I never stopped thinking about our first kiss.

"You caught me by surprise. I wasn't expecting that!" - She croaked.

"But can I?" - I looked at her, eagerly.

"Yes, you can."

By the time she finished the last vowel I lunged to her lips. I was hungry for it!

I kissed her so deeply, with so much intensity, I feared hurting her lips. After a few minutes, we parted. She had trouble catching her breath. So did I.

"Wow! You don't play around!" - She smirked.

"I've been thinking about our kiss for a month! Sorry, I was hungry for it!" - I told her, lustful.

"I can tell!" - She snickered.

"Can we go on a date this Saturday?" - I looked at her excitedly.

"Yes, we can. Where do you want to take me?"

"To my house. Is that cool?" - I said, anxiously.

"Meet the parents? Isn't a little soon?" - She sounded nervous.

"John's mom met his dad's parents on the second date." - I told her, nonchalant.

"OK, if you're cool, so am I." - She croaked.

"Great! Where can I pick you up?" - I sounded so excited.

"At my house. So you can meet my family too. Is that okay?"

"You mean, the Chief of Police? It's fine! Can't wait to meet them all!" - I replied, masking my fear.

"I'll text you the address."

"OK. Let's go to class, then." - I suggested.

I'm a bit scared to meet her parents, not gonna lie. But it's not like I didn't think it's never gonna happen. And I don't have anyone else to blame as I've opened the door!

But that kiss, though. Let's just say I'm glad I don't have P. E. today or I wouldn't be able to keep my eyes off her. So many feelings going trough my mind right now! And other parts of my body. I can't wait for our date!
