Three.
Baekhyun lead Chanyeol across the campus to the athletics building. It was separate from the main school building because the administration looked highly upon physically health. It was a semi-far walk, which was made out to feel even further when the sun baked the earth. Baekhyun had unbuttoned his shirt, letting it hang loosely open to blow back in the gently breeze, his white tank top on display.
Chanyeol had taken off his jacket and tied it around his waist, his white T-shirt also on display. He sighed and wiped beads of sweat from his forehead as he gasped, "Holy shit! Why is this building so far away?"
Baekhyun softly chuckled and muttered, "Because the board of directors are a bunch of health conscientious freaks."
Another moment of walking passed before they reached the building, and Baekhyun pulled the door open as he said, "I'll give you a quick tour of inside. Then we'll have to go back for the start of second hour."
Chanyeol nodded and followed Baekhyun inside. It was nice and cool, the gently hum of the air conditioners could be heard throughout the building.
"This way . . ." Baekhyun mumbled as he let the door close behind them as he lead Chanyeol inside. They walked through the main hallway that displayed all the won trophies, since it wouldn't make sense to put them in the school as all sporting events were held inside the gymnasium. Chanyeol admired them all, a sad small upon his lips as a wave of nostalgia filled him, memories of a better childhood filling his teenage mind. He sighed.
Baekhyun had paused in his tracks, noticing a moment after that Chanyeol wasn't beside him. He glanced over his shoulder to see him staring upon the trophies with an almost forlorn gaze. Baekhyun furrowed his brow and slowly walked towards Chanyeol. He stood beside him quietly, his gaze also settled on the display of trophies, but he was looking past them. Their delicate craft blurring as his eyes studied their reflections.
Chanyeol's reflection was tall, a head taller or so; and slightly sad, with a look of longing in his eyes. Baekhyun's reflection was shorter, shoulder height or so to Chanyeol; and his reflection mirrored all the things Baekhyun denied and shoved away. His reflection showed him his insecurities.
His brow furrowed and he turned away, putting his back to himself. He sighed and peered up at Chanyeol as he said, "Chan? We should continue on with our tour, we're almost out of time . . ."
"You're right . . ." Chanyeol murmured as his eyes flickered to Baekhyun's. They were sad, too sad to belong to the boy who, even if Baekhyun had only just met him, seemed like a boy who always smiled.
Baekhyun's breath caught at the sight, and forcing a smile to his own face, he reached out and grabbed Chanyeol's hand. It was cold, just as cold as before.
"Come on," he smiled. "Let's explore."
Chanyeol smiled too, and this time, it came more naturally.
"This!" Baekhyun exclaimed as he dramatically threw his arms open. "This is the school's pride and joy." Baekhyun chuckled.
"Well, that may be a bit of exaggeration. It's actually my pride and joy." Baekhyun grinned and stepped forward to clasp Chanyeol's shoulder as he said, "Dear, Mr. Park. You sir, are gazing upon not only the student body president, but also, the captain of our spectacular swim team!" Baekhyun jumped away and threw his arms up, before cupping them to his mouth and making it sound like a crowd of chanting fans were there with them.
Chanyeol laughed and playfully shoved his shoulder. Baekhyun eyed him sternly and teasingly yelled, "What did I say about pushing!"
Chanyeol fake pouted, digging the toe of his shoe into the cement around the pool as he murmured like a whipped child, "Too not to."
Baekhyun bursted into laughter, doubling over at the waist as he gasped. Chanyeol laughed too.
Chanyeol and Baekhyun were on their way out of the gymnasium when from to the left of their current position they heard voices — loud voices screaming and laughing. Chanyeol looked at Baekhyun questioningly, who only rolled his eyes and replied, "Don't mind them, it's only the football team." Baekhyun rolled his eyes again. "They have a free pass from their classes today to prepare for a game. Which is complete bullshit if you ask me." Baekhyun rolled his eyes again.
They continued walking, the obnoxious sounds growing louder, before they were literally on top of them. Baekhyun had made the unknowing mistake of walking forward to a intersecting hallway that branched off towards the locker rooms when someone came flying around the corner. Baekhyun was knocked to the ground with a cry of pain. The other boy fell onto his face with his bare legs spawled across Baekhyun's abdomen.
"Oh my god! Baekhyun! Are you okay?" Chanyeol asked as he aimed to help him up.
Baekhyun groaned and pinched their calf as he cried, "Get . . . off . . . me!"
The boy quickly jerked his legs away with a yelp. They rolled over onto their butt and looked at the person they had crushed. Baekhyun rolled his eyes as the boy laughed and practically jumped onto Baekhyun once again as they cried, "Baekhyun! Where have you been hiding?"
But when Chanyeol realized they knew each other he backed off. His eyebrows furrowed in confusion as he watched the scene play out before him. It was hard to watch . . .
Baekhyun furrowed his brow and flicked their forehead as he replied, "I was giving our new student a tour of the school. I told you this last night, stupid."
The boy pouted and hugged Baekhyun closer as he sheepishly replied, "Sorry. I forgot since we had this all-day practice."
Baekhyun pursed his lips and retorted, "Hmm. I'll decide later if you're forgiven. Sound good?"
The boy still pouted but nodded as he leaned closer to kiss the corner of Baekhyun's mouth. "Okay, fine. Will I see you at the game tonight?"
Baekhyun rolled his eyes and wound his arm up around his boyfriend's neck as he replied, "Of course, I have to support my brother."
His boyfriend's jaw dropped as he cried, "What!? Just your brother? I'm hurt, Baek, truly hurt."
Baekhyun rolled his eyes and said, "Yeah yeah, now get off me, Daehyun. I have to go to class."
Daehyun grinned and rolled off Baekhyun, standing up as he held a hand out to help him to his feet. Baekhyun smiled and kissed his cheek. "Thank you, sir. Your so kind!" Daehyun laughed. "But seriously, though, we gotta go. Bye! See you tonight!" Baekhyun kissed him once more before, smiling, Daehyun waved before running back to the locker room. Before he could fully escape ear-shot, Baekhyun called out, "And put on some freaking clothes, you idiot! That ass is for my eyes only!"
Daehyun threw a thumbs up before disappearing around a corner. Baekhyun smiled to himself, then he glanced over at Chanyeol, his cheeks turning a faint shade of red. "Sorry," he mumbled. "My boyfriend is incredibly stupid sometimes." Baekhyun laughed.
Chanyeol was frozen and he didn't say anything —- more like couldn't. Baekhyun frowned and sighed. "Aish! I'm sorry, again! You probably weren't expecting that, which makes two of us.... But seriously, I'm sorry if that made you uncomfortable. I usually don't start out by introducing myself as, 'Hello, my name is Byun Baekhyun and I'm gay'!" Baekhyun shook his head with a fake gag.
"No, thanks! I rather people find out for themselves because then I don't have to see the instant friend rejection first hand . . ." Baekhyun sighed.
Chanyeol still hadn't said anything, and growing nervous, Baekhyun murmured, "Hey? Are you okay?"
Chanyeol mentally shook himself and smiled as he said, "What? Oh, sorry! I'm not. I wasn't uncomfortable—- I mean, gay, lesbian, or bi-sexual people don't make me uncomfortable." Chanyeol corrected with another forced smile.
Baekhyun sighed and wiped away invisible sweat as he nervously chuckled and said, "Well, that's a relief."
Chanyeol smiled and muttered, "Yeah, sorry again. I was just surprised by the whole thing, that's all."
Baekhyun nodded. "Good. Well, we should probably head back to the school before we're counted absent."
Chanyeol nodded with a faint smile. "Yeah. I wouldn't want that on my first day."
Baekhyun laughed. "I know, right!" He chuckled as he shoved the doors open and they began the trek back up to the school. Chanyeol was quiet most of the way, his game of fifty questions seemingly over with.
