Chapter 26 - Faster Than Life
...
The past week was tiresome, Jungkook could barely keep his temper in check. First, some asshole from upper levels took Jungkook's hard research about the ''Shadows'' case and presented it as his own, and didn't even mention Jungkook's name. He was just the help on the case, disposable. Yoongi calmed him down by saying that it was just a small price to pay for the clearance that he had at this moment.
-'' It's normal.'' – Yoongi says calmly, sipping at his morning coffee. – '' Our job here is to gather information and provide evidence and proofs, and their job is to handle the case.''
Seeing that Jungkook was not accepting this with his broody face, Yoongi added in a stern voice. –'' Your job in this branch is to do exactly like us, gather information and evidence, process it and then write the report on it so others might present it later on. Here, you are not a detective, you are a researcher. Don't expect a thank you. You know the hierarchy.''
-'' It's fucking stupid.'' – Jungkook grumbles.
-'' It is, but you asked to be on this case. You were so stubborn about it. Well, this is what you get.''
Jungkook avoids his eyes.
-'' Consider yourself lucky, you got to be in several places at the same time.'' – Yoongi continues. – '' You are here, which is a privilege, let me tell you. We don't have many outsiders here. And you are down on the field, not only on your cases but on others as well. That's a real treat for a detective.'' – He gives Jungkook a pointed look, who sinks into his chair a bit more.
-'' So stop complaining.''
-'' M'not, complaining.'' – Jungkook mumbles and promptly changes the subject to something more cheerful.
Yeah, it was a challenging week, and not only because of work. He also kept seeing Jimin more often, as he was visiting his new clients. Jungkook still shakes his head at that. He was curious why Jimin took the case, even as an advisor, as Yugyeom informed him later on, but he was adamant not to ask. He refused even to talk to Jimin, avoiding him as much as he could.
Whenever his traitorous eyes found Jimin, the blond man would watch him. Jungkook hate to admit that it still made his stomach turn with heat.
Today, however, Jimin walked out without even glancing in Jungkook's direction. His expression was clouded and his eyes deep in thought. His usual confident walk was now tensed, the quick steps were carrying him away and Jungkook soon lost sight of him.
Jungkook's brows furrowed as he wondered what got Jimin so worried, and was in half-mind to go after him, but managed to talk himself out of it. I'm sure it's nothing. He convinced himself, while his guts stirred in a light warning. Sure it's nothing, yeah...
His shift was over for today, Yoongi sent him home early to get some rest. -'' Go home Jungkookie, take a nap, you look like shit.'' – His Hyung said and Jungkook couldn't disagree with him. He did look like shit... his lazy ass still trying to get into shape after his recovery where he played video games and watched movies for a long time, completely avoiding a normal sleeping regime, and just slept whenever.
He ought to sleep, he knew that, but his restlessness kept him on his toes. He was in the middle of the inner debate about whether or not he should have a boxing session or just go online and play a game or two. Maybe he ought to eat something and take a shower as well.
He went to the fridge and start rummaging through it. He should go grocery shopping tomorrow.
-'' Oh, fuck it.'' – He murmured to himself. – ''I'll just order something.''
Just as he was about to grab his phone, it rang. Jungkook raised his eyebrow as he saw a hidden number. Jungkook's expression turned into a scowl.
The ringing was persistent, and after a few reluctant seconds, he answered it. -'' Yes?''
-'' Jungkook?'' – It was Park Jimin. – ''Jungkook, please don't hang up.'' - His voice was pleading.
There was something in Jimin's voice that made Jungkook pause. – ''Park, I don't have time for your games..." - He begins, but Jimin interrupted him impatiently.
-" It's not a game. I swear. I have no time for games either."
The image of a worried Jimin from this morning came into Jungkook's memory and realizes how shaky his voice is, as it barely holds panic back.
-'' Jungkook, there are men following me the entire day.'' - Jimin says in a hushed tone. – '' They are parked in front of my office as we speak.''
-'' What do you expect when you defend scum, Park. '' – Jungkook sighs, trying not to fall on Jimin's lies again.
-'' Jungkook, please. I know you are angry at me and you have every right to be, but I need your help, please.''
This didn't sound like the cooky and overly confident Jimin that Jungkook know. There was a clear panic in his voice now.
-'' Why don't you ask Taehyung?'' – It still hurts to say his name, but Jungkook managed to push away the disappointment and hurt from his voice.
-'' I don't want him involved. Jungkook, you don't understand... He...'' – Jimin stops, breathing hard now. – '' He will do something stupid and dangerous... please...please help me.'' – He says pleadingly. – '' I know I have no right to ask you, and you have every right to refuse, but I beg you not, please.''
Jungkook sighed exasperatedly. – '' What do you need me to do? Should I send the unit to check you up?''
-'' No. No police.'' – His words were a bit shaky.
Jungkook arched his eyebrows far up. – '' You do realize I am a cop.''
-'' No, you are different. You are not like them. I don't trust the police.'' – Jimin says urgently.
-'' Jimin...'' – Jungkook began but Jimin stopped him.
-'' Jungkook, please, just come and pick me up. Maybe I'm imagining things, maybe they are not here for me, or maybe they just, I don't know... just come, please. I had a tip that they are looking for me.''
-'' Who is after you?''
-'' The same people that were chasing my client, Mr Bhuwakul.''
Jungkook froze for the moment, remembering the assassin in Bam's apartment and he moved quickly, stripping down his old, holes-ridden hoody and sweatpants. He found his discarded jeans from today and slip them on, together with his shirt.
-'' Who is your informant?'' – He asked and Jimin just chuckled sadly.
-'' You know I can't tell you that.''
-'' Where are you?''
-'' I'm in my office building. I hid in the maintenance room for the sole purpose of having this call. I'm afraid my office is bugged. I will have to check it out tomorrow if...'' – He made a pause. – '' If everything turns out alright.''
-'' If they bugged your office they could also track your phone.'' – Jungkook spoke, putting on the holster, and checking his gun. – ''They probably listen to the entire building. Can you stay there? ''
-'' You mean here, in the...?''
-'' The maintenance room, yes.'' – Jungkook finishes impatiently.
-'' No, the caretaker is near, he would wonder what I'm I doing here.''
-'' Can't you just tell him you needed peace?'' – Jungkook asked, running around his apartment and getting ready.
-'' While my entire empty office stays...well..empty?'' – Jimin almost laugh, but Jungkook heard that even his good humour couldn't cover the fear in his voice. –'' And to answer your first question.'' – Jimin continues. – ''This is a disposable phone and sim card. I will toss them away once we finish this conversation.'' – Jimin says shakily.
Jungkook put on his boots and took his leather jacket. –'' Don't worry, Park. I'm on my way.''
He ended up the call and rushed out of his apartment. He went to the building garage and sat on his motorcycle. He hurried towards Jimin's office.
It was around seven pm and a lot of people have left their jobs for today. He observed Jimin's building and noticed there were only a few lights still on.
He parked around the corner and entered the building. The guards looked at him with interest as he went towards the elevators.
-'' Excuse me, sir.'' – He heard behind him and closed his eyes for the moment, taking a deep sigh. He turns with a surprised look on his face. – '' Yes?''
-'' On which floor are you heading?'' – The guard wanted to know.
Jungkook, who suddenly have the feeling that he should lie, remembered that there was a dentist two floors above Jimin's office.
-'' To see the dentist, I have an appointment. Toothache.'' – He points at his left cheek, and the guard relaxed.
-'' Oh, very well sir. It's on the 9th floor.''
-'' I know, thank you. I wish you a good evening.'' – Jungkook says and turns to press the call button.
Once he reaches the upper levels he got out on the 9th floor and turned straight towards the staircase, hoping that the guards have better things to do than to watch the cameras.
He went down two floors and reached Jimin's hall, but before he entered it he bumped into a grimly looking man.
-'' This floor is closed.'' - The man said. His voice was menacing.
-'' Oh, sorry, I didn't know. I was just looking for the bathroom.'' – Jungkook put on his best innocent face.
-'' Piss somewhere else, this one is closed.'' – The man growled and Jungkook simply reacted. He punched him with his fist straight in the face with every ounce of strength he had, as he was hitting his punching bag. The man hit the opposite wall and fell unconscious. Total knock-down.
Jungkook heard footsteps approaching so he hid near the door. He noticed the fire extinguisher and pick it up. The man walked through the door and seeing his colleague on the floor he gasped. His hand went to his mouth to alert the others when Jungkook hit him hard on the head and he fell next to his comrade. The fire extinguisher was heavy and Jungkook hoped that he didn't kill the bastard. Another murder was the last thing he needs on his file.
They were both heavily armed. Yes, these were the same men who were chasing Bam Bam. The mercenaries. The elite ones are highly expensive and efficient. He sent Yoongi a quick message with a picture of the two men. Send backup, Hyung. He typed and sent it together with his location.
He took out his gun and went slowly towards the office doors. So, two men were left to guard the hall... Jungkook thought. First, next to the stairwell, second, near the elevator, but now both were taken care of.
He moved in quietly, noticing that the computer and the desk lamp on Jimin's secretary's table were off, which means she left home. That's good. He thought. But the voices from another office were not good.
Jungkook heard small whimpering noises and one voice speaking menacingly. Jungkook could just understand ''tell us where it is''.
He took a deep breath calming himself and opened the door. The sight was infuriating. Two men stood around Jimin's table with one of them pressing a gun on Jimin's temple, his head lying flat on his desk.
They look at him in surprise and Jungkook, his gun already pointing at the man who held Jimin, pulled the trigger without a second thought. The man's brain splattered over the window behind him. The other man reached for his gun but Jungkook shot him in the head as well. Jimin screamed.
Jungkook went quickly towards him.
-'' Jimin, are you alright? Did they hurt you?'' – Jungkook asked, wiping at Jimin's tears. The blond shook his head. His hair and clothes were dishevelled and sweaty. He looked left and right where the men lay and then on Jungkook, his eyes wide.
-'' I have never seen anyone killed before.'' – He shook as he spoke. He was on the edge of panic.
-'' Jimin, there is no time. I called for backup but I believe there will be more of them. Come on.''
Jungkook pulled him to his feet.
-'' Wait.'' – Jimin said.
-'' No time.'' – Jungkook was growling, his gun ready.
-'' No, Jungkook, wait.'' – He removed Jungkook's hold on his hand and went to the corner where the big plant was. He dug in the earth and pulled out a small bag. He clutched it to his chest and ran to Jungkook. – ''Let's go.''
They ran towards the elevators when the guns start firing at them. The other two men were awake and pissed. Jungkook should have killed them but it would alert the ones in Jimin's office as well.
-'' In here.'' – Jungkook pushed Jimin through another door. – '' Go, go, go, go, go...!''
They ran as fast as they can to the opposite side of the floor. Jungkook turned and shoot one man who fell with a loud groan while the other one hid behind the wall. That gave them enough time for the elevator door to open. Jimin pulled him inside pressing the close button frantically.
-'' Oh, shirt. We are gonna die. I don't want to die.'' – Jimin was shaking.
-'' We are not gonna die!'' – Jungkook growled, checking at his gun to see how many bullets he got left – only two more. Luckily he was smart enough to bring another magazine with him. He reloads his gun quickly.
-'' My car is in the garage.'' – Jimin said hopefully.
-'' They probably put a tracker on it, that's how they were following you.'' – Jungkook was thinking fast.
Jimin pressed the first-floor button. – ''We will use the stairs, they lead straight out without going to the main hall.'' – Jimin says.
Jungkook nodded, grabbing Jimin's hand. – ''Stay close and be ready to run when I tell you.'' – He says. Jimin just nods.
They got out, and Jungkook wrapped his hand around Jimin's shoulders while hiding his gun underneath his jacket. – ''My bike is over there.''
They never reach the bike because the black car stopped in front of it and a bunch of similar-looking men stepped out of it, looking left and right.
-'' Fuck.'' – Jungkook cursed and pulled Jimin into another street. –'' Walk naturally.''- Jungkook said to Jimin. – '' We need to look like a couple waking so as not to raise suspicions.'' - Jimin just nodded, pressing himself more into Jungkook's side.
They reached another corner when Jungkook dared to look back. What he saw made his blood freeze. The man was following them, aware of many witnesses around them. The place was filled with people.
-'' As soon as we turn around the corner, I want you to run as fast as you can, alright?'' – He says to Jimin, squeezing his hand this time. Huge and scared eyes look at him and he just nodded again.
-'' Run!'' – He gave the command and pulled Jimin with him. They ran fast. They heard the men running after them. Jungkook pulled Jimin into the middle of the busiest street. The place was packed with people and cars, and Jungkook knew that they won't do anything with so many witnesses. Plus, they need Jimin alive and...
The sharp pain erupted on his forearm. The bullet went through his jacket, scratch his skin, but buried itself on the floor. The was no shooting sound. Gun silencers, shit! It crosses his mind. He pulled Jimin to run faster. – '' Head down.'' – He says. A couple of bullets flew close to them. There was a yelp on their left, the bullet that was meant for them hit the man that was passing by. There was a sudden scream and the hell broke loose. –'' Run!'' – He shouted and pushed Jimin behind the parked cars and then into the alley next to it. They ran for several minutes, Jimin was breathless and Jungkook's arm was bleeding. It was a flesh wound, but it still bled, and Jungkook noticed that he left the bloody trail like a bloody GPS.
They hid behind the dumpster. It seems that they managed to lose them if only for a moment. Jungkook took his phone. Yoongi answered after the first ring.
-'' Where are you?'' – It was the first thing that came from Min Yoongi's mouth.
-'' Hyung, I'm near the LOTTE building. I got Park Jimin. The same man I fought before is after him as well. I killed two, wounded one, but there a dozen more.''
-'' Jungkook you are bleeding!'' – Jimin exclaims in a hushed sound.
-'' You are bleeding?'' – Yoongi repeats. – '' Are you hurt? Were?''
Jungkook glared at Jimin. – '' I'm fine, Hyung, just a flesh wound. They scratch me while we ran. I'm ok.'' – He says, watching Jimin trying to untie his tie.
-'' Fucking hell.'' – Yoongi cursed. – '' Can you stay where you are until we get to you?'' – He asks.
-'' Negative. I think we have...'' - He looked down the street from his hiding place. – ''... maybe a minute or two until they find us. We need to keep moving.''
He felt Jimin yanking his right jacket sleeve up to inspect his wound. It was indeed just a scratch, slightly burned from the heat of the bullet, blood still dripping, but it wasn't bad. Jimin took the handkerchief from his pocket. Who the hell wears the handkerchief in their pocket nowadays? Jungkook wondered. Apparently, Jimin does.
He watched him put the hanky carefully over the wound and then proceed to wrap his tie around it to keep it in place and stop the bleeding. Jungkook hissed when Jimin tightened the ends together.
-'' Gotta go, I'll call again if I can. Follow my phone.'' – Jungkook said and cut the line in the middle of Yoongi's protestations. He pulled Jimin to his feet and they went on. They have to reach the street. There they could grab a cab or Jungkook could use his badge to have someone give them a lift or just borrow the damn car.
All those plans fell into the water as soon as they exit the alley. The men were there.
-'' Shit!'' – He hissed in annoyance. Jimin didn't need the reminder to start running, he did it before Jungkook could utter a word.
The street they ran into was empty. It was a residential area and Jungkook hoped that no one will decide to go out and throw trash or walk a dog at this moment. Unfortunately, that also meant that they will be an easy target as well.
They used the cars as shields as they ran. The car windows were breaking as the silent bullets flew through them, chasing after them. Several car alarms went off and Jungkook had to warn the people not to come out to inspect the noise, so he shoot three times in the air. People are afraid of the shooting sounds. Or so he hoped.
As they were about to turn to another street, a car, a red Toyota Crossover SUV came rumbling down, stopping with a loud screeching noise. The window rolled down and a blond woman with black sunglasses appeared.
-'' Get in!'' – Her voice was deep and commanding, and Jungkook felt Jimin pull him towards the car.
-'' It's alright, I know who that is!'' – He yells and ran with Jungkook in tow.
The woman took out her mini assault rifle and opened fire on the men that were after them. That gave them time to get in the backseat of the car.
The woman pulled in, window up, set the rifle on the passenger seat and pressed the gas. The SUV roared and hit the streets.
-'' Are you both alright?'' – The woman asked and Jungkook couldn't wrap his head around why her deep voice is so strangely familiar.
-'' Jungkook is wounded.'' – Jimin says, still trying to catch his breath. The woman turned towards Jungkook, taking her sunglasses off. Two gorgeous eyes of Kim Taehyung stared at him in worry. Jungkook was speechless. He would recognize these eyes everywhere. As for his face, it was heavily covered with make-up, and a long blond wig fell around his face. The blond woman from the hospital. His mind supplies.
-'' Where? How bad is it?!'' - The driver wanted to know.
-'' Taehyung.'' – Jungkook said weekly, still staring at the man in front of him.
-'' How bad?!'' – He insisted, and Jungkook had shaken his head to even fathom what the man was asking him.
-'' Not bad, flesh wound. He will survive.'' – Jimin answers instead of him. – '' He came in the nick of time and saved my ass. Tae, mind the road.''
The huge grin of Kim Taehyung cleared any doubts that Jungkook had about the ''woman's'' identity. It was Kim Taehyung dressed as a woman. A really gorgeous woman.
-'' I told you we can trust Jungkookie.'' – Taehyung exclaim joyfully, eyes returning to the road.
-'' Taehyung, what the hell is going on?'' – Jungkook asks perplexed by the entire ordeal.
Taehyung looks at him in a mirror. – '' I told you things are way more complicated.''
Just then a series of bullets hit their vehicle.
-'' Ah, fucking hell!'' – Taehyung yelled, looking at his rearview mirror. Jungkook turned back to glance through the back window, pushing Jimins head down. Three cars were chasing them.
-'' This car isn't bulletproof?'' – Jungkook yelled. – '' I thought you Kims like to be protected!''
-'' I'm sorry, I didn't have time to browse through a catalogue when I was stealing them!'' – Taehyung growled from the front seat.
-'' You stole them!?'' – Jungkook yelled back.
-'' Well, I was in a bit of a hurry, you know, trying to reach your sorry asses and drive you away!'' – He jerked when the bullet hit the back window. - '' Shit!''
Jungkook grabbed Taehyung's rifle from the passenger seat and opened fire on the cars behind them.
-'' Aaaah, motherfucking fuck!'' – He swore loudly. –'' But THEY ARE bulletproof!''
-'' Shoot the tires!'' – Tae shouted, reaching to his bag where he took out two more magazines. – '' Here, reload!'' – He tossed them to Jungkook.
-'' And where did you find this?''- Jungkook points at the riffle. – '' Another catalogue?''
-'' You would be surprised how easily these things are to come by.'' – Taehyung says. – '' Besides, I had it stashed, just in case.'' - Another glass broke, the bullet flying too close to Taehyung's head.
-'' Keep your head down!'' – Jungkook told him.
-'' How do you expect me to drive then! I can't see the road!'' – He shouted but slid a bit lower in his seat.
-'' Drive faster!'' – Jungkook yelled, reloading the riffle again.
-'' I'm trying!'' – Taehyung growled and then his voice changed to a softer one. – ''Chim, are you ok?''
-'' I'm fine, just trying not to die!'' – He shouts from beneath.
Taehyung chuckled fondly. – '' Atta boy.''
-'' Stay down.'' – Jungkook ordered. –'' Taehyung, drive more to the left! I need to open the door!''
-'' Why do you need to open the door!?'' – Taehyung yelled, but Jungkook didn't pay any heed. He opened the door and almost lay down his seat, half of his face and a rifle out. He began shooting on their tires. He managed to hit one that lost its control and hit the other one, forcing them to zig-zag to regain their control back. Just as he was about to shoot again, Taehyung jerked their own car harshly to avoid another vehicle. It was Jimin who pulled him in, in a nick of time before the door was slammed shut after hitting another car. That could be his head.
-'' Are you crazy!? Never do that again!'' – Jimin shrieked at him.
-'' I got one down!'' – He yelled back but was glad that Jimin was worried for him. He kept shooting at them, trying to group his hits on the driver's side of the window shield. Bulletproof glass or not, the bullet still left scratches on it, which made it difficult to see.
The police sirens joined them in the chase. One police car was pushed to the side where he hit another car and then crashed at the store. Please, let there be only a few life casualties. Jungkook murmured in his chin.
He felt Jimin putting something in his right jeans pocket. Jungkook looks at him.
-'' It's the flash drive.'' – Jimin explains quickly. – '' All the info they are after is there.'' – He looks at Taehyung and meets his eyes in the rearview mirror for a second and then back at Jungkook. – '' Tae and I need to escape. We need to hide. Don't mention you saw him, please. His identity needs to be hidden!''
-'' It's up to you how you use this info'' – Taehyung adds, nodding toward Jungkook's pocket. – '' Just use it wisely, and be careful who you trust and show this! They have ears and eyes even in the police.''
Their eyes met at this, sharing some unspoken agreement before Taehyung had to duck down again as several bullets fly in, luckily missing them. Taehyung took a sharp turn. Jungkook knew what he needs to do. He jumped to the passenger seat, unbuckling Taehyung seatbelt and grabbing the wheel.
-'' What?'' – Taehyung yelped.
-'' Taehyung, move! I'll drive!'' – Jungkook ordered and Taehyung obeyed without a single thought.
They managed to switch somehow without slowing down, crashing or being hit by flying bullets. Jungkook felt the engine of this car. It was very strong. Maybe they still have a chance. He knew these streets at the back of his hands so he drove even faster, hoking non-stop for the other cars and pedestrians to move out of the way. There will be a lot of damage. He thinks sadly.
He felt Taehyung fastening his seatbelt. Like it would stop the bullets from spilling my brains out. Still, he murmured a small thanks to him.
He check the rearview mirror and saw that the few police cars that were in the chase were taken down along the way. Jungkook hoped that at least some of them survived. He was cursing loudly now, gripping at the wheel tightly. He was furious.
His phone vibrates in his pocket, but he couldn't reach it. He couldn't take his attention from the road. He took a sharp turn in a small street. He knew that this was a bit dangerous neighbourhood, but he hoped that the gang leaders will not take lightly someone shooting through their territory. He was right. Soon, the black vans and cars were chasing after them releasing their firepower toward the mercenaries.
They were taken by surprise. Jungkook saw it as their driving changed patterns. He smirked and went even faster, praying that people will stay out of the way.
Taehyung and Jimin were low in their seats as the bullets flew over their heads. How anyone wasn't shot by now was a miracle. Jungkook's heart stopped when he saw another enemy car rushing on the opposite side of the road. It was a huge hummer and was crashing ordinary cars left and right so it could pass.
Jungkook glances to his left, but the building was there, so the only way out is.... – '' Bloody hell!'' – He shouted and with another sharp turn ran straight towards the mall and their garage entrance.
Taehyung and Jimin shouted as the car flew through the ramp. Jungkook pulled a hand brake and spun the wheel, causing the car to drift sharply and loudly around the corner. The people that were there began running franticly out of the way, and Jungkook just hoped that no one will be hurt.
He knew that they have to get away. He knew that this was bigger than his desire to keep Tae and Jimin safe. It was bigger than his desire to arrest the bad guys. No, these are professionals and he saw their work first hand – it wasn't nice. You don't hire these people if you don't have something huge to hide or eliminate. And whatever Tae and Jimin got themselves into, it was massive. His gut feeling was telling him so. He has to get them to safety in any way he can.
He continue using his handbrake while pressing the gas, so his car could drift around the sharp corners avoiding other vehicles. Taehyung looked back and saw the hummer rush towards them at a high speed, hitting everything and everyone. These motherfuckes didn't care for anything.
Jungkook's expert drive managed to get them out at the exit. He knew that the other car is probably waiting for them somewhere near, but it was the only way to reach the small streets. His hands and feet were working on autopilot right now, his mind was so focused like he spent his entire life on the street racing. He didn't notice Taeyung's fascinated eyes on him. At any other time that will thrill him, but not now. Not the right time, not the right place.
-'' When we reach the next street, I want you to be ready to jump out of the car and run!'' – Jungkook spoke deadly serious. – ''There are no cameras here since I assume they are following us through the traffic camera network, as well as trailing after us.'' – He avoided another car and turn sharply on the right. – '' See that building over there?'' – He points at the building on the far left. – '' As soon as we reach it I will turn right, there will be a small alley.'' – He glanced at Taehyung to see if he listens to him. Seeing that he does he continues. – '' There will be a small building next to it with the exit to the backyard. Shit!'' – He nearly managed to avoid a woman that just stepped on the sidewalk. Jungkook ran through all traffic lights. In the back, he could hear explosions and bullets still running, together with police sirens. What a fucking mess.
-'' I know this neighbourhood and the back ally you are talking about!'' – Taehyung exclaims. Jungkook dared to look at him only for a second to see if he is serious or not before his eyes were once more glued to the road and the cars ahead. He nearly gasped at how gorgeously beautiful he looked even though it was a woman staring at him.
-'' You know about the tunnels underneath the sewers?'' – He asks, not wanting to believe that the rich and spoiled boy Kim Taehyung could even imagine that place exist little less know about it.
-'' I know those tunnels very well.'' – Taehyung answered, kissing Jungkook's cheek which made the man look at him again in wonder.
-'' Watch out!'
It was Jimin's cry that turn his attention up-front, and all three shouted while Jungkook pushed at the brake as hard as he can, turning, when a big delivery van came from the corner. He managed to bump it on the side. Their engine stopped and Jungkook cursed again, trying to start it again. The bullets came rushing at them, hitting the delivery van as well. Jungkook noticed the driver escaped before the bullets hit him. He hoped that the poor bastard will manage to save his life.
Taehyung hissed as he hit his head hard on the side. He was on the floor, under the dashboard.
-'' Come on Jungkook, drive!'' – Jimin yelled between the front and the back seat. He was on the floor covering his head. The car was almost destroyed by the bullets. It will explode soon if Jungkook doesn't move.
One bullet flew right in front of his face, breaking the remaining window on his left. He felt shards leaving small cuts on his face. He turned the key one more time, looking out the passenger window, the cars were rushing towards them at a high speed.
We are gonna die. It flew through Jungkook's head when the switch clicked and the engine came to life. He pushed in the first gear and pressed gas instantly. The Toyota jumped from the force and into the small street.
He knew that they lost precious time and that he would have to gain more distance for Tae and Jimin to escape. He hit the gas.
-'' Almost there! Get ready!'' – He yelled at them.
-'' Jungkook, come with us!'' – Jimin pushed his head between the seats. Jungkook felt the small hand on his elbow.
-'' Someone needs to lead them away from you!'' – Jungkook shouts, trying to overpower the sound of bullets and the engine. – ''Besides, I have to reach my station!''
He turned again and the bullets stopped for the moment, which meant that he managed to escape from their view. He took another sharp turn and then another where he stopped with a force.- '' Go, go, go!''
Both of the men jumped out of the car, slammed the doors shut and ran inside the building. Jungkook didn't linger there, he pressed gas again and drove away.
As soon as he reaches the open streets the bullets start pouring again. This car can't take much more. One of them jumped out of nowhere and hit his rear. His car went on spinning several times before hitting three more cars. The seatbelt saved him from dying, but he was in pain from all of the tumblings.
Suddenly the car in front of him was blown up like he was hit by the rocket launcher. It flew in the air and Jungkook reacted instinctively, unclasping his seatbelt and opening his door to roll out just in time when the flaming car fell on the Toyota's rooftop and crushed it completely. He crawled under another car and onto the pavement, seeing the woman and her child in the car that he hit. He opened the door, took the little girl from the back seat in his arms, and then helped a woman to slip out. The bullets were too close. He told them to keep their heads down and push them behind the corner. Right then another explosion happened, blowing all four cars in the air.
Jungkook fell over the mother and the little girl shielding them from the shards of the nearby glass, hissing when he felt one stabbing at his back. It was not too deep, he felt, but still, it hurts like motherfucker.
He pulled them up on their feet, almost dragging them down the street before he ushered them into the nearby café. The people there were alarmed by all the noise, explosions and shooting, but luckily they were far away from it.
He left the woman and the little girl in the care of the waitress there. She thanked him for saving her and her daughter's life while crying hysterically. He just shook his head, knowing that it was his fault that they nearly died. He didn't say anything, just bowed to her before he left and ran back to see the damage.
The streets were filled with flipped and damaged cars, Heaven's only know how many victims, some shootings could be heard as well as the police sirens and the helicopters. It was a mess and he created that. That's several blocks of damage, so many casualties, how many deaths, and for what? He remembered the USB drive. He quickly reaches in his side pocket, brow furrowed in a panic until his fingers wrapped around a small thing that caused so much trouble. He let go a shaky breath, when he felt it was still there, safe, in his pocket. He hoped it was worth it. And he hoped that Tae and Jimin managed to reach safety.
The ringing was persistent, so he took his phone out. It was Yoongi.
-'' Hyung.'' – He croaked, only now realizing how dry his throat is.
-'' Jungkook! Oh, fuck shit, thank the spirits, you are alive!'' – Yoongi's voice was filled with fear and relief at the same time. – ''Are you alive?'' – He asks worryingly.
Jungkook groaned, feeling his body protesting badly. He was bleeding from several places, all cuts and small stabs. Taehyun will patch him up quickly, but still, he felt so tired. – '' Barely, Hyung. I felt like I was having a battle with the main Boss in the game.''
-'' Dammit Jungkook. Where are you?? What the hell happened?''
-'' I will tell you everything, but I need the medic first.'' – Jungkook hissed, feeling the shard in his left shoulder blade.
-'' Where are you?'' – He could hear the sound of the helicopter in the background.
-'' You see that big explosion on the Eastside? Well, I was there.''
-'' Jesus!'' – Yoongi cursed something as well.
-'' Now, I'm near the...'' – He looked around, checking the name of the café he just left. – ''... ''Moon'' café around the corner.'' – He groans in pain, feeling weak. He slowly lean down against the wall and sat on the ground. His muscles were in such tension for the entire ordeal and now were shaking like crazy. – '' Hyung, please hurry, I feel I could pass out at any moment.''
-'' I'm coming Jungkookie.'' – Yoongi rumpled with the suppressed emotion. No matter how much he tried to hide it, Jungkook heard it and smiled to himself. – '' Hold on.'' – Yoongi continues speaking in his ear, his low and calm drawling voice sounded so comfortable. Jungkook wanted to sleep. – '' Go faster.'' – Yoongi commanded to someone, his voice changing as he bark the order, but then switched back to calming. – '' Jungkookie?''
-'' Hmm?''
-'' Stay with me, kiddo, don't fall asleep yet.'' – He coaxed.
-'' Hyung, when you reach me, and if I'm out, check my left jeans pocket.''
-'' Jeans pocket?'' – Yoongi asks.
-'' Mhm... take it. Keep it safe. Don't show it to anyone you don't truly trust.''
He began drifting away slowly, still hearing Yoongi's voice in the background.
-'' Stay with me, Jungkookie. Hyung is coming.''

And so, that happens. I was genuinely excited about this chapter. I wrote it so bloody long ago and it's finally its turn. We get to see Vminkook together, breaking the resistance and Jungkook is not completely drawn into the shit that's been brewing for a long time.
Things will get even faster after this. We are at like 70% of the book right now, and I'm so glad you were with me from the beginning. I do understand a lot of you came here because of Vminkook and smut (there are least of them here, my apology) but I had the need to tell this story in all of its action. So, thank you again for being here and reading, and leaving your comments that I love to read. Until Wednesday, take care darlings 💜💜💜
