Chapter 17 - I Put A Spell On You

...

Jungkook was quite surprised to receive an invitation to the Kim auction gala. It didn't say who has sent it, but he was pretty sure that it was Taehyung. At first, he was almost reluctant. The first impression youngest Kim made on him was strange but left him intrigued beyond all means. So he decided to go and see if he can get a fresh perspective on the case and out of sheer curiosity to see Taehyung. Still, a completely baffled look in his eyes appeared when he checked his closet and saw that he didn't have anything fancy to wear. His clothes were in dire need of some elegant upgrade, and he almost gave up and stayed at home.

After a few minutes of consideration, he decided to take his old and only suit, wishing that he at least had another tie, but alas this will have to do. He didn't tell anyone that he is going, not even his Hyungs. Not that they would say anything. They might be surprised, but still, Jungkook wanted this secret for himself. His thoughts rushed towards Kim Taehyung, the most desirable man in South Korea. Jungkook had to admit, he was stunning.

He thinks about that for the moment, realizing that's the reason why he didn't want people to know it's because they would tease him. They will say that he will never go to these things if it weren't for some hot ass. Jungkook was more than that, the thought was quite offending. They knew that, of course, but they will never miss the chance to tease him. And they were right in the way. Jungkook was certainly, although partially, going because of a hot ass.

The place where Kim's gala was held wasn't the same place the previous fundraiser was. This location was much bigger and offered several rooms to explore. One of them had round tables everywhere. So there's gonna be food and drinks here. How lovely. Jungkook thought satisfactorily. He looked around in other rooms and discovered that there was jewellery displayed in many glass enclosures. Of course, everything is for sale.

This was packed full, as always. Rich and modern people mingled around the gallery with their champagne flutes and fake smiles. Jungkook felt out of place here and almost wished that he brought Hoseok or Yoongi with him to keep him company. Come to think of it, he wasn't even sure that the invitation had +1 on it. Jungkook just naturally concluded that it was for him only.

He didn't see Seokjin nor Taehyung around and felt a bit disappointed. He thought that surely one of them will appear by now, but it seems that the Kims were fashionably late as the decorum required. Some twenty minutes passed since he got here and he had already seen all the jewellery that was displayed, drinking the champagne and thinking of going home soon when the low warm timbre voice spoke in his ear.

-'' Hello detective.''

Taehyung. Jungkook nearly shuddered. Damn this man walks so quietly. He turns around to see the handsome man, smirking at him. He looks so bloody attractive that Jungkook wanted to scream.

-'' Taehyung-ssi.'' – Jungkook nodded in politeness, acting nonchalantly like he didn't spend almost half an hour roaming the rooms in search of him.

-'' I thought I told you to skip honorifics.'' – Taehyung says, tilting his head and pouting adorably. –'' How old are you?'' – He asks.

- '' Thirty.''

Taehyung's face clears and he smiles. –'' Then I'm your Hyung.''

Jungkook bows his head slightly in acknowledgement. Taehyung steps closer to him, and he is smelling divine. Not too strong, but not too gentle, just the right amount.

-'' Call me Hyung.'' - His voice sounds so wonderful to Jungkook, especially when he says -'' I was hoping you would come.'' – And Jungkook's stomach did a small hot pulse.

He didn't appreciate the reaction his body has on this stranger, because Taehyung was exactly that – one very hot and charming stranger.

He clears his throat. – '' Yeah, well... here I am.'' – He makes some distance between them. – ''So...the jewellery... are they for sale or just decoration?'' – He turned from Taehyung to examine the jewels in glass showcases.

-'' Oh...'' – Taehyung turns towards the glass cases. – '' Both really.'' – Taehyung put his hands in his pockets as he stood right next to Jungkook.

-'' It's pretty.'' – Jungkook says, pointing at the necklace.

-'' Yes, it is.'' – Taehyung answers, but his eyes were on Jungkook, not the necklace.

Feeling the man's gaze, Jungkook turns his head to meet his eyes, faltering slightly at the intensity. There was some familiarity in this gaze, but Jungkook couldn't place it. It was driving him crazy as it was the second time it happened. Taehyung was looking at him like he was art himself. It made him a bit self-conscious for the moment.

Taehyung tilted his head, narrowing his eyes on Jungkook's suit. -'' You look...good.'' – He says. – '' But that's the second time I see you in the unfitted suit, detective.''

Jungkook looks down at himself, slightly embarrassed before looking at Taehyung annoyed. -'' I have better things to do with my paycheck.'' – He said a bit defiantly.

Taehyung pinched the back of his jacket, making it tighter, accentuating his thin waist. – '' It's a shame to hide this body. You are hot.'' – He says almost regretfully, hands sliding up Jungkook's arms, tightening on his biceps, then up to his shoulders.

Jungkook felt dizzy from Taehyung's close presence, his big hands on his body while people watched them. He began getting unhealthy ideas. He pushed Taehyung's hands off him. – '' Enough.'' – He says, strengthening his suit the best that he can.

Taehyung wasn't discouraged by this, he pouted in thought. – ''You could at least change a tie. It's hideous.''

Jungkook waved his hand in dismissal of that idea. -'' Too much of a hassle, besides no one cares how I look.'' – His eyes say otherwise as he scanned the crowd to see if they are being watched. Of course, they were. Everyone in Taehyung's vicinity was being watched carefully, scrutinizingly so.

-'' I care.'' – Taehyung ran a finger over Jungkook's lapels, and then down his chest. –'' You would look perfect in a tailored suit.'' – He says dreamily, hand wrapping around Jungkook's arm again, squizzing it slightly. – ''All that muscle.'' - He bit his lower lip while his eyes drank Jungkook up.

Taehyung hummed in thought, his eyes falling on Jungkook's tie again and his eyes narrow. His fingers reaches for it and began to untie it. Jungkook was slightly alarmed.

-'' Taehyung, what the hell are you doing?'' – He wanted to know.

-'' Hyung.'' – Taehyung says, not stopping what he was doing.

Jungkook didn't stop him either. Instead, he asked confusingly. -'' What?''

-'' Call me Hyung.'' – Taehyung was pulling off the wretched tie, wrapping it around his fist.

-'' Fine, Hyung, why did you take off my tie?'' – He was so confused and aware of people staring at them. Taehyung didn't seem to mind. He was quite enjoying himself. He unbuttoned the first two buttons of Jungkook's shirt. Jungkook wanted to sink from embarrassment and become one with the floor.

If you ask Jungkook at that moment why he allowed Taehyung to do this to him, he would not have the answer. It was fast, Taehyung presence was strong, and Jungkook was just lost. And as that internal turmoil raged in Jungkook's brain, Taehyung used that opportunity to pull the shirt slightly open, so Jungkook's neck and a bit of the chest could be seen. His long fingers slid across Jungkook's skin, making him shudder.

-'' Now, that's better.'' – Taehyung says approvingly, letting his palms run down over Jungkook's jacket, straightening it up and feeling his muscles in the process. Jungkook's ears were red now.

Taehyung took a step back, appraising him again. He nods to himself and grins. -'' There... you look like a snack.'' – He says joyfully. His expression changes instantly into something darker. He licks his lips. – '' I want to eat you up.''

Jungkook forgot how to breathe for the moment. Never in his life was he looked with this kind of intensity and lust before. Not even Jimin. Taehyung was indeed something different.

Taehyung smirks devilishly, quite aware of the chaos in Jungkook's mind. He moves his eyes from him and signals for the waiter. When the man approached, Taehyung put Jungkook's terrible tie into the man's side pocket. – ''Dispose of it, please.'' – He says and takes two flutes of champagne from the tray before waving him off.

-'' Hey, that's my only tie.'' – Jungkook protested.

Taehyung just gave a pointed look to the waiter who bowed and left without a word. When Kim orders, you listen.

-'' That terrible tie should be burned. Here.'' – Taehyung spoke, offering the new glass to Jungkook, who took it automatically.

-'' You owe me a tie.'' – Jungkook still stared at him.

-'' I'll buy you a dozen quality ones.'' – Taehyung took a sip of the golden liquid.

-'' No, you will not.'' – Jungkook was shaking his head now.

Taehyung looks at him innocently. – '' But I will, honest.''

-'' No, I mean I don't want you to.'' – Jungkook clarifies.

Taehyung moved closer. – '' I insist.''

-'' Well, I don't.'' – Jungkook tilted his chin up stubbornly.

-'' We shall see, darling.'' – Taehyung's eyes flared with mischief.

-'' Yes, we will.'' – Jungkook says with finality on that matter. – '' If you insist on a first-name basis, then at least use it. It's Jungkook.''

-'' I know.'' – Taehyung gave a flirtatious smile. – '' But darling has such a nice ring to it.''

-'' Please, refrain from using it... Hyung.'' – He adds the last part a bit ironic since there is only one year difference between them.

-'' Very well...'' – Taehyung agreed. – ''...for now at least.''

Jungkook felt that silly bantering with Taehyung would take up all night, not that he would mind in other circumstances, so he changed the subject.

-'' So...are you here for fun, or to help your brother?'' – He asks.

The twinkle in Taehyung's eyes was endearing. – '' Both.''

Jungkook smiles. – '' Wouldn't your brother be mad if you spend all your time here with me?''

Taehyung licks his lips, showing his perfect white teeth in a mischievous grin. – '' Oh, I wouldn't mind.''

Jungkook chuckles. – '' I don't doubt it. You look like a type of person who will evade tedious work if allowed.''– He teased while smiling, taking a sip of his drink.

Taehyung laughs quietly, the low timbre was barely audible and yet it causes Jungkook's insides to melt.

-'' Well, then don't let me escape my responsibility.'' – He says.

-'' Should I leave you to it?'' – Jungkook looks at him pointedly, one brow arched questioningly, not ready to depart.

Taaehyung pouts. – '' No. You can help me instead.'' – He grins, his fingers sliding over Jungkook's shoulder like he was brushing at the speck of dust from it.

-'' Tell me what you want me to do.'' – Jungkook looks at him through his half-lidded eyes, the corner of his mouth only slightly curving in a smile. He thinks he looks flirty, and if Taehyung's reaction is anything to go by, he deemed it a success.

Taehyung's eyes roamed his face and his body, licking his lips before biting the lower one. -'' There are many things.'' – He spoke seductively.

There is this strong chemistry between them, this raw attraction, that Jungkook was almost taken aback. He only ever felt it with Jimin before, and now with this god-like creature in front of him. Destiny has a funny sense of humour that's for sure.

He inhales sharply, turning his head towards the display in front of them, deliberately changing the subject again.

-'' So, any really expensive jewellery this evening?'' – He asked, suddenly observing, almost studiously, the glass cases where wonderful pieces have been showcased. He could hear Taehyung chuckle quietly next to him.

-'' All of this jewellery is expensive.'' – He answers. – '' But I'll use my hunch and guess you are wondering about those above 9 zeros, yes?''

Jungkook nodded.

-'' Then it's a no. Those are special auctions, highly secured.'' – Taehyung explained. -'' This one is rather simple. More affordable.''

-'' I see. Who runs the auction?'' – Jungkook asks, still feeling and hardly avoiding Taehyung's intense gaze on his face.

-'' Our secured personnel.'' – Comes the answer.

Jungkook chuckled. – '' I am surprised that you didn't want the spotlight. You love to be in the centre of attention.'' – Jungkook teased slightly and Taehyung laughed.

-'' Oh, no, no, too much talking.'' – Taehyung laughed.

-'' I got the impression that you really love to talk.'' – Jungkook continued, surprised by the sudden cheerfulness in Tae's voice. He made the mistake of looking at him again.

Taehyung gives him a seductive look. – '' Only with special people.''

Oh, boy... Jungkook felt his cheeks burning. Why the hell did he feel so flustered by this man? Shit.

Jungkook gulped, clearing his throat. – ''I see you love wearing jewellery.'' – He points at a sapphire earring on Taehyung's left ear. – '' Quite unusual choice for a man.''

Taehyung smiles. – '' I love being unusual, but you already figured that out.''

Jungkook nods, not knowing what to say. Taehyung, however, continues. – '' I love a good piece of jewellery, whether it was for women or men. '' – He came closer to look at the glass display where a gorgeous emerald bracelet was. – '' There are some quite breathtakingly pieces that I had the privilege to observe and hold. To learn their history, their worth, their beauty.''

His fingers gently glide down the glass. – '' It's like poetry when you wear it. Gives enormous confidence and a sense of importance. Like a small piece of history when you hold some really old ones in your hands...or wear them. The colour and the shine of the stone pull you in and insert a bit of magic in you. ''

Jungkook observed him carefully. The passion Taehyung spoke intrigued him immensely. It reminds him of Yoongi when he talks about his stones.

Taehyung turns his attention to Jungkook again. – '' Why do you think Kings and Queens look so regal and powerful while wearing some of the most magnificent gems in the world?'' – He asks with obvious passion in his voice, his eyes gleaming as he returns his gaze once more to the ones in front of him.

–'' Why the right jewellery can make any woman a lady?'' – He continues in the same voice. – '' Why do some carry with them a dose of danger? And why do so many people want to steal them, to possess them?'' – He wondered quietly. He was murmuring now, and Jungkook had to strain to hear him.

-'' Some of them would be even prepared to die to get them.'' – His voice is a mere whisper, and if Jungkook didn't stand next to him, he would have missed it.

-'' Breaking families and friendships, or committing murders, or betrayal without blinking. Selling their children into slavery. To a life full of suffering and fear. And for what? For some little expensive colourful stones. And money...yes, always the money. The money rules this world ...'' – Taehyung hummed, lost in his thoughts, taking a big sigh. His eyes ran back to meet Jungkook's, voice dying on his lips as he suddenly remember where he was. His mouth opens and closes, eyes round and in sudden panic, like he said too much.

Jungkook was sure he did. It was unintentional, sincere and so spontaneous. He was sure that Taehyung allowed him a glance into his soul by accident.

But what does all of this even mean? Jungkook wondered, watching quite fascinated, by the speed in which Taehyung confused and surprised face switched into a laid-back smile. The careful mask was back on.

Taehyung laughed suddenly, moving away from the display. He waved his hand dismissively. - '' Hah, don't mind me. I get stuck into the old tales my nanny used to tell me about pirates and cursed jewels.''

Jungkook knew that wasn't true, but he let it slide. He knew the man won't let his guard down again.

-'' I found them fascinating, you know?'' – Taehyung continues and then clarifies. – '' When I was a kid.''

He gulps the rest of his champagne, signalling for another before turning back to Jungkook and adding. – '' Not anymore, I'm afraid.''

-'' Oh?'' – Jungkook prompted for more, watching Taehyung plucking his almost empty glass from his hand and replacing it with a full one.

He took one for himself as well. – ''Seokjin Hyung force me to learn the prices of every piece that is displayed here tonight.'' – He says in confidence. – ''He says I should be ready if someone asks about them. Can you imagine? I felt like I was in school again because he is the mercilessly strict teacher.''

Taehyung's charisma and easy talk were on, once more in full power, together with his charming smile. He chuckles. – '' Pitty me, Jungkook. It was a quite boring experience.'' – He waved his hand around the room. – '' And no one even asked me about any of it.''

-'' Are you trying to tell me that you actually learned the prices of every single piece in here?'' – Jungkook asked sceptically. Surely, the notorious playboy will have better things to do than remembering the auction jewels.

-'' As a matter of fact, I did.'' – Taehyung said with a smirk. His eyes danced with mischief as he stared at Jungkook. –'' I'm not just beautiful, you know.''

Oh, you are definitely not just beautiful, Mr Kim. Jungkook thought.

He winked and Jungkook chuckled, ready to challenge him. – ''Oh, I believe you're not just the pretty face, but it's still hard to believe.''

Taehyung took a step closer, grinning with obvious mischief, his teeth grazing at his lower lip. – '' Try me.''

-'' Are you sure about that?'' – Jungkook teased, which made Taehyung playfully arch his eyebrows up a few times. Do you worst. It says.

They held each other's gaze, feeling the chemistry between them yet again. No matter how Jungkook tried to avoid it, it was impossible to ignore it. It was strong. It made his body tingle from anticipation. Jungkook broke the eye contact to look through the displayed treasure. He pointed at the first thing that caught his eyes, a diamond necklace.

-'' Christie's, 20.21-carat Pear-Shaped Yellow-Brown Diamond in a Graff Necklace. Estimated around 5 million won.'' – Taehyung answered instantly.

Jungkook rose his eyebrows up in surprise. That was very precise. He didn't expect this, but then, he wouldn't know if he was lied to and Taehyung simply made it all up. But he did know major stones and gems, thanks to Yoongi's lessons for the past month. And he could recognize the expensive stuff when he sees it, plus his gut feeling told him Taehyung was telling the truth, for a change. So he decided to try again.

-'' The weird-looking silver earrings.'' – He points, hearing Taehyung's chuckle.

- ''That's not silver, it's white gold.'' – Taehyung's deep voice was much closer now. Jungkook could feel his breath tickling the side of his neck.

-'' Twombly baguette-cut... damn, that was a mouthful.'' – He complains, making Jungkook laugh. -'' ...and round diamond earrings. Price around 114 million.''

Jungkook turned in disbelief and almost choked from the proximity of another man. – '' One hundred and fourteen million won, for those earings?'' – He managed to ask.

-'' Total weight of these earrings is around 5.60 carats, with two pear shape diamond drops weighing 1.00 carat each. It's worth its price.'' – Taehyung spoke amusingly.

Jungkook quickly turned towards the cases. – '' They teach you carats and gems in playboy school too?''

Taehyung laughs at that. -'' I'll tell Jin Hyung you consider his teachings a playboy school. He'll love it.''

He continue to chuckle and Jungkook felt strangely pleased that he managed to provoke his amusement.

-'' I must admit...'' – Jungkook spoke. – '' I didn't expect you to know so much about it.''

He could hear the amusement in Tae's voice. – '' And why is that?''

-'' Oh, I didin't think you care enough.'' – He answered honestly.

Low timber laugh chimed again. – '' Oh, I don't care, but Hyung insisted.''

He scratches the side of his jaw. –'' I do care for my Hyungs. I respect them deeply.'' – He smiled sheepishly. – ''But don't tell them I said that. Jin Hyung would become even more impossible.''

They both chuckled at that.

Just then the staff invited the guests to move into an auction room since the main event is about to happen. Taehyung turned towards Jungkook.

-'' Wanna get out of here? Nick some free food, a bottle of champagne and chill on the upper gallery?'' – He asks. – '' Trust me, these things are tedious if you don't intend to buy anything.''

Jungkook struggled with the pros and cons of dialogue in his head. -'' I'm not sure it's a good idea.'' – He admits.

Taehyung smiled devilishly. – '' Oh, come on, Detective. What's the worst thing that could happen?''

Jungkook could name a few, but the deep stare of Taehyung's eyes reached his soul. He knew he should reject the overpowering personality of Kim Taehyung, but he was failing. He was failing badly.

-'' Sure, why not.'' – He heard himself answering.

They moved up, entering a small room with sofas and a table. The waiter came carrying a tray with some small food – pieces of meat, shrimp, salads, cheeses, some sweets. Jungkook eyed it in wonder, it was a lot of food.

Taehyung sat on the chair, pulling his cravat loose and undoing a few of the upper buttons. He languidly crosses his legs and makes himself comfortable. He pats the place next to him, but Jungkook sits on the chair next to the sofa Tae was in. That makes Taehyung pout, not commenting on it.

Jungkook observes him, wanting to ask the question that was on his mind ever since he lay his eyes on that invitation. – '' Why did you invite me?''

Taehyung tilts his head and hums. – '' Hmm... and why not?'' – He asks instead of answering.

-'' Why yes?''

Taehyung's mouth began curling to a smile. –'' Should I not?''

Jungkook discovers that he's mirroring Tae's expression, feeling his teeth peeking out behind his lips. – '' I don't know. What are you trying to achieve? With me?'' – He adds quickly, breaking Taehyung's long inhale as he was about to give some philosophical answer of life purpose or something. The air from Taehyung's lungs escaped in a whoosh as he began to giggle.

-'' That's not fair.'' – He chuckles. – '' I was just about to tell you all about my newest ambition of becoming a famous trumpet player.''

Jungkook grins. -'' Do you know how to play it?''

-'' I just started some few months ago.'' – Taehyung admits almost shyly and Jungkook is fascinated.

-'' I like acoustic guitar myself.'' – Jungkook reveal and watched Taehyung's eyes glint with interest. - '' I used to play in the academy.'' – He adds, plucking a small shrimp and some cherry tomato from the plate and into his mouth.

-'' Why not still?''

-'' I left the guitar when I moved to Seoul. I didn't have the room to carry it with me and then I just forgot all about it. Work and all that.''

-'' How can you forget about it?'' – Taehyung took some sweets and began munching with gusto.

Jungkook shrugs his shoulders. – '' Many other things to think about. Career, other interests, people...''

-'' Love?'' – Taehyung wonders.

Jungkook looks straight into his eyes. – '' No love.''

-'' Hmm... life is always a little sadder without love in it'' – Taehyung hums, and Jungkook's gaze became unfocused somewhere in the room. The silence drags. It's not an unpleasant one, but rather comfortable.

-'' You haven't answered my question, though?'' – Jungkook says after a while.

-'' Hmm? Did I not?'' – Taehyung leans his chin on his long fingers.

-'' Noup.'' – Jungkook shakes his head, taking his glass. – '' What do you want with me?''

Taehyung's expression becomes lustful. – ''Oh, many things.''

Jungkook snorts at this obvious hunger in the man's eyes, feeling a bit smug that he managed to provoke such desire. – '' Besides getting into my pants.'' – He adds.

Taehyung was deeply amused by this. He uncrosses his legs and spreads them slightly, showing off his thighs as he made himself more comfortable. Jungkook didn't miss any of it.

-'' I have no desires to get into your pants.'' – Taehyung says. – '' They are not tailored, you see.'' – He adds the explanation and Jungkook tosses his head back to laugh openly.

Taehyung grins in satisfaction, his nerves twitching in pleasure at the sound of Jungkook's merry voice.

-'' As for the other thing... We shall see how our first date goes.''

Jungkook shook his head, still smiling at this display of confidence. – '' Are you always so confident?' – He asks.

-'' Mhm.'' - Taehyung hums as his head gave a few small nods. – '' Pretty much.''

They continued in that matter for some time, trying to make each other fluster by openly flirting with one another, only to switch to some serious life philosophies soon after. A few jokes here and there, a few personal confidence, and Jungkook was utterly charmed by this creature.

-'' You know...you are much more down-to-earth than I expected.'' – He admits. Taehyung's face grew gentle.

--'' Yeah...but don't tell anyone, I have a reputation to uphold.'' – Taehyung jokes.

That made Jungkook chuckle. – '' I won't. Just promise me you'll not go around, stripping people's ties and throwing them away without people's consent.''

Taehyung smiles wide. – '' I'm sorry, I just had to. That colour definitely didn't suit you.''

-'' Why is that so important?'' – Jungkook asks. – ''Who cares about the stupid tie and what you wear? It's the inside that matters, a human soul, their brains, their characters, not clothes.''

-'' When you live in a world where the image is important you care, I'm afraid.''

Jungkook chuckles at that. – '' You don't seem like you particularly care about your image?''

-'' Touche. I don't, and yet, I do.'' – Taehyung smiles almost sadly. – '' I have to.''

-'' Why?''

He shrugs. – '' Reasons on which I will not talk.''

Jungkook nods, accepting it. – '' Just so you know, Hyung. I like you like this when you don't pretend.''

Taehyung's eyes shine with satisfaction, he almost let out a purr. –'' I like myself like that too. Only a few people know me like this, to be honest.''

He sounded genuine, which made Jungkook wonder why the ''bad-boy'' act. He didn't comment on it and didn't feel the need to, which was good because Taehyung started speaking again.

-'' It's strange being this relaxed with a new person. You make me relaxed, Jungkook-ah. Only four people ever managed to do so, and you are fifth. I almost consider myself lucky.'' – He chuckles.

-'' Why? You don't trust people much, is that it?''

-'' Hmm... I believe it's their energies that determine that. Rarely do I feel the need to let my guard down.'' - His eyes dig deep into Jungkook's very soul.

Jungkook gulps and asks in a low tone. – '' Do I make you lower your guard?''

Taehyung stared at him for a long moment before he finally answers. –'' Yes, you do, and it's dangerous.'' – He takes a sip of champagne, eyes never leaving Jungkook's.

___

The next morning Jungkook went to work in quite a nice mood. Last night was more than interesting. He and Taehyung stayed there for good three hours. The gala was long over and everybody left except the cleaning crew. Seokjin came in search of his baby brother and found them in lively conversation, rather tipsy and dishevelled from laying around. His arched eyebrow stood in wonder as he tried to figure out what had happened between the two. Nothing did, but neither of them tried to correct whatever conclusion Seokjin's mind came up with.

Jungkook knew he ought to, but he just didn't. He was waiting for Taehyung to say something, but the man just stared at his brother in mischievous amusement. The silent argument they led with their eyes didn't escape Jungkook, even though he had no idea what the exchange was. Still, he was more than glad when Taehyung kept his silence, not defining what it was that they had, their little bubble they wrapped themselves in.

It broke down so easily with Seokjin's arrival, the surprise, slight disapprovement and tiredness of his eyes told Jungkook that the party was over. He grabbed his discarded suit jacket and bowed to both of them, first Seokjin, then Taehyung, wish them good night and left home. His dreams were full of Taehyung that night. More confusing and complicated than sexy, that's for sure.

Taehyung was charming and unpredictable, and Jungkook wasn't sure if he was ready for someone like him. Still, the mystery around him, the uniqueness that was pulling him like a magnet was weird and exhilarating at the same time. He wasn't sure if he would be able to resist it the next time they see each other. If they do, that is.

He was so lost in his thoughts that he didn't even notice that he arrived at work until Jackson's booming voice jerked him from his musings.

-'' Well, well, look at him, Mr Celebrity!''

Jungkook groans at the loud voice and he grumbles. – '' What's got into you this morning?''

-'' Me?'' – He looks at Yugyeom who sat at his place. The two of them were the first to arrive beside Jungkook.

-'' Oh, We were just admiring your ability to collect Kims, that's all.'' – Yugyeom grins like a Cheshire cat.

Jungkook groans, closing his eyes in defeat. – '' Is the newspapers again?'' – He asks.

-'' Mhm...got an entire page and all.'' - Jackson spreads the papers over Jungkook's desk, finger tapping at the picture of him and Taehyung, standing next to each other. Their wide shoulders almost touching and their faces rather close. Taehyung wore a flirty smirk as they looked each other in the eyes, and Jungkook knew it was moments before Taehyung took off his tie. Thank goodness they didn't catch that part. That would be embarrassing and unnecessary. Jungkook thought with relief. He never noticed that reporter, which was weird because he always does. He knows exactly who is there and how far. But, clearly, Kim Taehyung has bewitched him and he forgot the world around them for those few moments. His eyes narrow at the small sentence underneath the picture. It says: ''Kim Taehyung and the guest at tonight's fundraiser gala, in a private conversation.''

-'' The net is full of the ''mysterious man'' that suddenly appeared in Kim's life.'' – Gyeom muses, raising his phone to make a point. – '' First the eldest, now the youngest. It seems that the reporters had recognized you from the last time.'' – He says, eyes gleaming in amusement. – '' Netizens had their eyes on you now.''

Jackson laughs. – '' Yeah, you got too cosy with their scandal-sweetheart. You should have stayed with the eldest Kim, he is respectable.''

-'' I'm not with any of them, dammit!'' – Jungkook curses, disliking this stupidity.

-'' Either way, they'll be watching you.'' – Gyeom says. – '' Better stay low in the next week or two until the dust settles and they forget about you.''

Jackson snorts. – '' Two weeks? Give it a few days before Kim baby makes another love scandal.'' – He turns towards Jungkook. – '' Just be careful that's not you.''

Jungkook didn't like how everyone saw Taehyung. Like he was some spoiled, foolish, rebellious brat. He was so much more.

-'' I just think he is misunderstood.'' – Jungkook says, grabbing at the papers and tossing them in the bin.

-'' Hey, I was reading that!'' – Jackson protested.

-'' Not anymore.'' – Jungkook grumbles. Well, shit. Yoongi's gonna kill him.

The look Yoongi gave him as soon as he enter his office was disapproving.

-'' Care to explain how come you were there? I didn't sign any clearance for this.'' – He asked calmly.

-'' I wasn't there for work.'' – Jungkook begins, then check himself. – '' Well, I did go intending to observe and report, but I was invited.'' – Jungkook answers, feeling almost guilty.

Yoongi's eyes arch in surprise. – '' Oh? How come?''

-'' I met the youngest Kim when I went to talk to the eldest.''

-'' Aaah, I see.'' – His Hyung hums in thought, his long fingers holding his chin the most elegantly. He sighs. – '' I don't need to tell you that this sudden publicity is not good for this line of work. Now, I'll never interfere with your love life, but I will advise you not to get involved with him, strictly because we are in the middle of this case and I need you to be unsuspicious, and not famous.''

Jungkook bends his head down, feeling guilty. – '' Sorry, Hyung, but honestly, there are just speculations, nothing more. There's nothing between Taehyung and me.''

-'' Taehyung, huh?'' – Yoongi chuckles, observing him. – '' Just be careful, Kook. I know that papers can exaggerate a lot most of the time, but he is famous, and he is carrying that weight in any friendship, connection or relationship he enters, so expect to be followed.''

-'' Hyung, don't worry. I'll take care of that. It will probably just disappear itself since I doubt we'll ever see each other again.''

Yoongi's feline eyes stare into his naked soul. He had the feeling that Hyung didn't believe him. Still, he ought to listen, he really should. And yet, Taehyung was so magical, that deep down, Jungkook wished to see him again.

___

Jin knew this will be one of those days. That irritable day where Dong-Ho is in a foul mood and gonna talk some crap about Taehyung like he always does. Yeah, Jin knew those days perfectly well.

Ever since the auction two days ago, the Netizens began digging for Jungkook's information. Who he was? What does he do? Why was he there? Is there anything between Taehyung and him? Jin knew this would happen, which is why he told Tae to stay away from him, but hell, Taehyung has a mind of his own.

Poor Namjoon spent a lot of time online trying to calm the buzzing. The reporters were following Jungkook around, trying to get an interview, which the young man declined with a glower, but then Tae stepped in and feed them some new scandal. He was found in a passionate embrace with a young actress, and everyone began speculating about an affair. It was all arranged, of course. The said actress got some publicity, and Jungkook was long forgotten.

Things went back to normal. At least on the outside, that is. On the inside, well... Jin wouldn't be standing in the small hallway, in front of Dong-Ho's office, if it were, but that wasn't surprising. He knew things won't be easy today. He allowed himself a moment of grounding by closing his eyes and taking a deep breath.

He's been trained well in enduring all the bad words and threats about his brothers and himself, that they barely bothered him anymore. Still, he had to pretend they did, so Dong-Ho won't get in his head to make it more than just insults. Yes, Dong-Ho loves his control, he loved being feared and respected. He loved to stand on the top and look down on those less fortunate. And Jin wanted him like this because cruel Dong-Ho is calm and in charge, and everything runs smoothly. Careful Dong-Ho means trouble because you never know when he's gonna explode and kill someone. So, Jin prefered him calm and sure in his power, because then he had more freedom to do things he wanted. The revenge. The mission. The plan. Yes, he has to be very careful, and cunning, too.

Luckily, he knew how to stand his ground and when to keep silent. Some of Dong-Ho's men thought he was weak in the beginning, but they were quickly shown just how wrong they were. With his sharp mind, great strategic intellect and stoic manner he commanded obedience and respect in the room that could match one of Dong-Ho's if Jin wasn't very careful not to step too high, and stay just below their boss.

Jin grew up a lot from a shivering nineteen-year-old boy and turned into a respectful and powerful man, not just in the looks, but in character as well, and that's why Dong-Ho's men feared him and respected him at the same time. They would usually put Dong-Ho and Jin in the same basket – ambitious, cold-blooded and cruel. And even though Jin was never cruel, he was cold and heartless with them. The ice prince, as they mockingly called him behind his back. Jin didn't mind, he prefered that way.

They were some murmurs amongst them, discussing Jin's public persona, all polite and approachable, saying how people were too blind for not seeing the true character of the man – a cold motherfucker – as they would say. Yes, they knew his image in the media and the one behind the scenes, thinking that all of that was his and Dong-Ho's plan. It wasn't, but Jin let them think that way. What's more, Dong-Ho disapproved of such public exposure, yet, he still allowed Jin to have his way. None of his men dared to say anything to the press, because they knew Dong-Ho would gut them without mercy if his prized possession was taken from him. And in many ways, Jin was Dong-Ho's prized possession, his diamond boy, his connection with the cream de la cream, mastermind, someone who can plan the heist in every detail, quick entries and exits, tricking the security and people. Sometimes it was a burglary, and sometimes just a simple theft, either way, Jin was the mind behind it.

He had the respect of the thieves and was in Dong-Ho's inner circle, but that didn't mean that he and his brothers weren't still in danger. He saw so many ''trusted'' men from that inner circle stumble and fall to their deaths by simply lowering their guard down, and that's something Jin didn't have any intention of doing.

Dong-Ho hated mistakes, and the incompetent people even more. They were dead or never in the picture in the first place, which is why Jin made sure to be very useful to Dong-Ho for the past decade and a half. He knew that their father's debt was paid off long ago, but he also knew that with everything he and his brothers know about the Dong-Ho and the ''Organization'' they will never be free to walk away from this. The only way out was in the coffin, and it remained to be seen whose.

This dark thought crosses Jin's mind as he stood there for a whole minute, waiting, calming himself down, preparing for whatever he was summoned for, even though, deep down, he knew it was about Taehyung. Dong-Ho hated the youngest Kim with his entire being.

It was Tae's defiance and lack of respect that irked Dong-Ho beyond measure, and no matter how many times Jin begged his baby brother to behave, Taehyung would just explode the first instance their boss says something offensive, which, unfortunately, was always, since Dong-Ho enjoyed insulting Taehyung whenever the young man was in his vicinity.

Jin's decision to leave his brothers out of Dong-Ho's dangerous business was one of his better ideas, even though he still used them from time to time, or at least that's what Dong-Ho thought, which is why Jin had to work twice as hard. He couldn't remember the last time he took a break, went on vacation and slept through the night without waking up. There was so much his body can handle. He wasn't as young as he was ten years ago. Sure, his mind was sharper than ever, and his face was so young-like, but his body started to ache and complain from overworking. He knew this. This wasn't news for him. He knew he ought to have a break, he just had no time. It was quite impossible until all of this is over.

So, he took a deep sigh and knocked on the door.

-'' Come in.'' – The voice was sharp which meant that Dong-Ho was beyond irritated.

When is he not? Jin thought and entered the room. The office was medium-sized, with some oriental carpet, and white walls filled with the furniture of dark wood, from desk to chairs and shelves. The man sitting at the desk fixed him with a long stare. – '' Finally. '' – Dong-Ho snapped. – '' What took you so long, Seokjin?''

-'' Apologies. I was detained.'' – Jin bowed to show respect and added quickly. – '' I came as soon as I could.''

-'' Next time I summon you, you come instantly, do you hear me?''

Jin bows again. – '' Yes.''

Dong-Ho's eyes gleamed with some hidden distaste, but he accepted Jin's answer. His hand reach for the newspapers from one of his many drawers, tossing them in the middle of the desk. There were several of them, each having pictures of Taehyung and Jungkook.

-'' Care to explain this?'' – He says coldly, and Jin had to take a few steps forward to look at the headings printed in big bold letters. It was from a few days ago when Jungkook was still at the centre of attention.

Great. Jin thought. Just what I needed. Dammit, Taehyung.

Jin raises his eyes to meet Dong-Ho's analytical ones. Jin knew he was trying to see his reaction or any trace of discomfort which is why he did his best to stay as relaxed and passive as he was when he came in.

-'' What particular part do you want me to comment on first?'' – He asks calmly.

The irritation was back in Dong-Ho's eyes.

-'' Careful now, Seokjin. I'm at the end of my patience today.'' – The man grit through his clenched teeth. – '' Who is this Jeon Jungkook?''

Jin narrows his eyes in exasperation. This was the test. Dong-Ho was already informed by one of his ass-kissers who Jungkook is, and now he was trying to see if Jin will lie or not.

-'' That's Detective Jeon Jungkook from the Seoul finest.''

-'' And why was he there?'' – Dong-Ho's eyes flashed with anger. – ''And what's more, what was he doing with that poor excuse of your brother?''

Jin clenches his teeth to stop the snarky retort that was at the tip of his tongue. He forces his temper down and answers calmly as always.

-'' He came to consult me about some Jewell he came across in one of his cases, and Taehyung was just a good host and entertained not only Mr Jeon but many other people at the gala.''

-'' Oh? I didn't know you associate yourself with the police, Seokjin.'' – Dong- Ho stood up and walked towards Jin, and even though Jin was proud of his height, Dong-Ho was almost 2 meters tall, with wide shoulders and chest, which made him even more intimidating than his face was.

Jin met his glare with equanimity. – '' Of course, I am.'' – He answers. – '' I will always be glad to assist the police with my refined expertise in jewels. After all, Kims are the finest in South Korea.''

Dong-Ho looked at him long and then his face made a hard transition into some kind of a smile. It was everything but, and yet, Jin heard him chuckle, which was extremely rare.

-'' You are way too cocky, Seokjin.'' – He places a hand on Jin's shoulder, squeezing almost painfully. – '' it will cost you your head someday.''

The muscles of Jin's jaw twitch from sudden discomfort in his shoulder caused by Dong-Ho's fingers. Still, he forced his expression to stay unchanged. – '' Not if I'm not careful. After all, you thought me well.''

Dong-Ho's mouth widens even wider, which resembled more of a sneer than a smile. – '' That's true.'' - His raspy voice had a somewhat lighter tone when he spoke. – '' You are always very careful and loyal, Seokjin. I am very pleased with you.'' - It sounded almost affectionately, which Jin knew was a lie since the man had no emotions.

Jin watched the man's eyes turn even darker. He points at the paper. – '' They look close there.''

Jin raises his chin only slightly. – '' You have no reason to doubt Taehyung.''

The man's face turns into a scowl. – '' I have every reason to doubt his lack of judgement, stupidness, and aloof character.'' – He hisses acidly.

-'' No, you don't, because I have him under control.'' – Jin speaks with strong conviction.

This made Dong-Ho squint his eyes at him, arching his eyebrow. – '' You call this a control? The papers are full of them!'' – He growls and takes one step closer.

-'' Those are only rumours.'' – Jin says calmly. – '' There's no truth in it.''

Dong-Ho was in his space now. - '' Are you sure that your idiot brother is capable of listening to anything you say, or do you just keep convincing yourself that he does?''

Jin knew better than to answer this. He was biting his tongue so hard that he almost tasted the iron in his blood.

Dong-Ho clicks his tongue. – '' You spoil him too much. He only knows how to spend, drink and whore himself. Nothing else. He is like those millennial brats I hate so much.''

-'' I have him under control.'' – Jin repeats slowly, maybe too slow, his voice perfectly neutral. – '' He is a young, healthy man who likes to have some fun, nothing more.''

-'' There is nothing healthy in his lifestyle and his proclivities.''

-'' We will agree to disagree then.'' – This time Jin didn't manage to stop his words, which was a mistake because Dong-Ho's face harden even more, and his hand wraps around Jin's neck, squeezing hard.

-'' Seokjin, control your tongue, it's wagging.''

Jin tried to calm himself and breathe through his nose the best he could, not moving a muscle, eyes passive and patient as he stared at Dong-Ho's. The pressure on his throat was so hard that his face began turning red. Still, Jin didn't move and his eyes remained unchangeable.

Dong-Ho shows his teeth and growls, something in between amusement and displeasure. – '' You cold motherfucker.'' – He says, releasing Jin's neck and slapping his cheek a few times in a ''you got away with it'' gesture, before moving away.

-'' This detective was the one who busted Lee and his crew.'' – Dong-Ho spoke matter-of-factly. – '' I don't want you fraternizing with him anymore. We don't need the police sniffing around our business, I don't have to tell you this.''

Jin bows his head that he understands.

-'' Also, tell that slut of your brother to stay away from him if he knows what's good for him.''

-'' It shall be done.'' – Jin answers, bowing.

-'' Good. You are dismissed.'' – Dong-Ho barks and waves his hand in dismissal.

Jin gives another curt nod and leaves the room only to meet one of Dong-Ho's henchmen lurking in the hallway as soon as he closed the door behind himself.

-'' Seokjin.'' – The man says, smiling coldly.

-'' Jihoon.'' – Jin nods in response.

There was always cold civility between them. Jihoon was in his thirties, but his babyface made him look like a teenager. His physical innocence was utterly reversed in his mental cruelty, in a strange twisted game of fate. He was a devil's spawn in the body of an angel, as he killed more people in his life than his age, which was alarming. Jin always disliked him. He learned long ago to read the true intent behind the Jihoon's eyes.

-'' Taehyung misbehaving again?'' – The man asks in a sweet tone. Jin wanted to laugh since now he knew who showed those articles to Dong-Ho. Jihoon always had a morbid fascination with Taehyung.

Jin gave him a look. It was never good to talk with Jihoon for long. Every word, every information is stored in a young man's brain only to be used later to stalk and torture his next victim. He was cruel, vicious, and loves the screams of pain and suffering. Jin was always wondering just how vile can someone like that be? Was he born this way, or did he become this way by something dreadful? Still, Jin didn't want to know what caused this change in Jihoon, if there was any, he just hoped to keep him away from Taehyung.

Ever since the first time, Jihoon lay his eyes on his brother he was obsessed. He hated him and desired him, it was obvious to everyone. No matter how good a killer he was, the desires were difficult for Jihoon to hide. He wanted Taehyung. Jin wasn't sure just how, whether to fuck him or kill him, maybe both. He also didn't know if Jihoon tried to get close to his brother, only to be snubbed by him, or he just watched him from afar. Taehyung never told him. Whenever Jin would ask, his brother would just change the subject.

Still, keeping Jihoon in check was easy for Jin, mostly because of Dong-Ho. Jihoon wouldn't dare do anything by himself. He was too much in awe of Dong-Ho to ever try to betray him. So, Jin allowed himself a small satisfaction. He ignored Jihoon's words as he continued walking pass him, only saying. – '' Go and have a wank, Jihoon. Your boner for my brother is showing.''

He heard the man growl quietly and Jin smirks. He knew this was not the smartest thing to do, but he just couldn't hold his temper anymore. Antagonizing Jihoon was stupid, but Jin knew that no matter what he did, the man will still stay away. For now.

Jin hoped it was enough.

I know you are sending me to hell or stopping Taekook's flirty moment without any smut, but be patient, it is coming soon.

And do not confuse this Jihoon with Park Jihoon, they are nothing alike. Yes, the name fits. Yes, the looks fit. The Taehyung fascination fits. I admit I did took that as a reference, but I like the reaL Jihoon too much to use him as the villain in this story. So, it's not that Jihoon, and you are free to imagine whomever you want. The same goes with Dong-Ho.

Until Wednesday, take care darings 💜💜💜
