Chapter 14
Jay, Lloyd, and Cole were being transported to the palace in a police transport van. They were all in the back of the van in handcuffs. They knew why they were being taken to the palace. They were about to be executed on live TV. Before they were taken into the van, they had been trying to brainstorm ideas of how to get out of this and, sadly, they couldn't come up with anything. This didn't really seem like a situation that they were getting out of. Strangely, after hearing the truth about what happened to his family, Jay didn't really seem to care what happened to him anymore. This was just going to make him another victim of the emperor and empress. He was the last living member of family. He didn't really want to let the emperor and empress win, but if he was about to die, he wasn't going to fight it either. He was more worried about how Lloyd and Cole were feeling. Both of them have family that are still alive. Lloyd's mother and uncle are in prison and even though Cole isn't on good terms with his dad and hadn't seen him or talked to him in years, at least his dad was still alive. He did think about Nya, but he knew that she could find somebody else. She didn't need him.
After what felt like an eternity, they arrived at the palace. Honestly, it was like the whole day was moving in slow motion for them. There was a lot of paparazzi outside of the palace waiting for them to arrive. They didn't say anything as they were dragged out of the van and into the palace. They were led into the throne room where the emperor, empress, and Princess Harumi were. Lloyd took notice of how Princess Harumi looked at them with sadness in her eyes. It was like she felt sorry for them.
"The famous Tuth Seekers," the emperor said in a sinister voice. "To think, it a group of teenagers who dared to rebel against us. I never would've expected that." He then looked to the royal guards that the teenagers were handed off to when they arrived. "Take them into one of the cells until it's time!" The palace had a few cells in it in case they ever needed to hold someone in the palace. This was surprisingly the first time they were using one those cells. An execution seemed like a perfect time for them to finally uput one those cells to use.
The guards took them to one of the cells, took their handcuffs off, and pushed them into the cell. After the guards left, it took a few minutes before any of them spoke.
"What now?" Cole asked. "There has to be someway to get out of this."
Lloyd looked to his friend wearing blue. "Any ideas, Jay?" Lloyd and Cole noticed how resigned Jay had looked in the van. It was like he just accepted what was going to happen. They had just given him such a great motivational speech the day before right after he had found out the truth about what happened to his family.
Jay shrugged. "I don't think there's anything we can do at this point," Jay said in a monotone voice.
"Oh no!" Cole said harsher than he intended, but he continued with that tone. "Don't get all mopey on us now! We've been through so much together and we've always gotten out of it! We can get out of this too!"
"And how do you think we're going to get out of this!" Jay snapped back at Cole. "The emperor and empress have killed so many people including my birth parents, my adopted parents, and your mother! We're about to become three more of their victims!"
"Guys, let's not fight with each other right now," Lloyd said while trying to be the voice of reason. It's kind of funny how the youngest of the three had to act more mature right now. Lloyd turned to Jay. "We'll figure this out. Please, don't give up." Lloyd turned to Cole who was about to say something. "And you. Try not to be so harsh." Lloyd sighed. "If this really is the end, let's try not to fight. If we're taken out to be executed while being on bad terms with each other, I'm pretty sure we'll regret it in our last few moments."
"Right," Cole said and turned to Jay. "I'm sorry, Jay."
"I'm sorry too," Jay said.
"Thank you," Lloyd said relieved.
The three sat down in the cell and started talking about all of the good times they had together before a few royal guards came. The three boys knew that it was time. The royal guards entered the cell, grabbed them, hundcuffed them again, and started dragging them to where they were going to be executed. They were led into a room and onto a small stage. There were cameras all around them and somebody announcing what was going on. The royal family wasn't in the room. Jay guessed that they were probably watching it on TV in a different room. They didn't want to be seen in the room where the execution was going to happen. On the stage, Jay was in the middle of the three with Lloyd on his right and Cole on his left. The royal guards knocked the three boys down into a kneeling position.
"Today, you will witness the execution of the ones known as the Truth Seekers as well as an end to their lies," the announcer said.
The three boys took one last look at each other. They had been through so much together and this was how it was going to end. There was one royal guard behind each of the boys. The royal guards took out their guns and pointed them at the heads of the three teenagers. The three closed their eyes, readying themselves for the end.
"On the count of three...one...two..."
"STOP!!!" a girl cried out as she burst open the doors.
Jay opened his eyes and looked up at who was trying to save them. "NYA!!!" he yelled.
"What the Truth Seekers have said are not lies! They are called the Truth Seekers because they speak the truth!
"Lady Nya!" one of the guards who was not on the stage said. "You must leave."
"No! If you're going to execute them," she said as she walked right in front of the stage and turned around to face the cameras, "then you better execute me too." She looked directly at the cameras. "The rumors are true. I am one of the Truth Seekers. I did it because it is true. The emperor and empress have a list of their enemies and they order people to kill them. They've done a lot of unspeakable things. We are not better than we were under Lord Garmadon. If anything, society is worse and I can't just stand by anymore." She turned back to the guards that were behind her friends. "If you're going to kill them, you better kill me first."
"Nya, don't," Jay said when he locked eyes with her.
The guard behind Jay started pointing his gun at Nya instead of Jay. "I was given orders not to hesitate to kill you if you interfered," the guard said.
"NO!!! DON'T!!!" Jay yelled. Nya continued looking at Jay. She wanted him to be the last person she saw.
A gunshot was heard in the room.
Nya looked up and saw that the person shot was the guard who was pointing the gun at her. He fell backwards as the shot was fatal. She quickly whipped her head around to find her own brother was the one who took the shot. "Kai," she said.
"I've got your back sis," Kai said and walked to his sister. "And I didn't come alone."
Another guard pointed his gun at Kai, but Zane fired a shot at the guard first. "Hello, Nya," Zane said and joined the siblings. "Kai told me everything."
The guards that were behind Lloyd and Cole weren't expecting the girls that came up with frying pans and knocked them out. They then proceeded to grab the keys from the guards to get the handcuffs off of the boys. Skylor freed Jay, PIXAL freed Lloyd, and Seliel freed Cole.
After Seliel freed Cole they stopped and looked each other for a minute. "Hey," Seliel said. She recognized him as the cute boy she ran into a couple of days ago.
"Hey," Cole said.
Once Jay was free, he noticed the gun that the guard behind him was holding on the ground. 'Well, he's dead,' Jay thought. 'I guess he doesn't need it anymore.' He picked it up and ran off the stage to Nya who was still next to Kai and Zane. "Are you ok?" he asked.
"I'm fine," she said.
The others soon joined them and more guards ran into the room. The nine teens were surrounded and they knew they couldn't escape and only three of them were actually holding guns against a bunch of royal guards that were also holding guns. The only other weapons they had were the frying pans that three of the girls were holding. They all looked at each other. No one really knew what to do as the guards were all pointing their guns at the group of teens.
All of a sudden, a canister of tear gas got thrown into the room. The guards weren't even prepared for it and didn't have enough time to put gas masks on. As everyone was coughing, someone ran into the room and tugged on Lloyd's arm trying to signal him and the others to follow the mysterious person. He listened and told the others to follow whoever the person saving them was. When they got out of the room, they followed the person down the hall to a secured door.
"Ok. Who are you?" Kai asked as the person was entering a code on the pin pad of the door. Whoever saved them was wearing a black cloak. They obviously didn't want to be spotted helping them.
The mysterious person looked around to make sure no one was there before they turned around and pulled the hood down.
"Princess Harumi," Lloyd gasped.
"We don't have much time," she told them as she pressed 'enter' on the pin pad and the door opened. It revealed a garage.
"I didn't know there was a garage in the palace," Kai said.
"My parents might have been friends with your family, but they didn't tell them everything."
"Look at these bikes," Skylor said as she started looking at the motorcycles in the garage.
"We can use these to escape," PIXAL said.
"The keys are on the wall right here," Harumi said as she was still standing next to the door. The wall of keys happened to be right next to the door.
Jay, Cole, Kai, and Zane grabbed keys to different motorcycles and went over to start the vehicles up. Nya, Skylor, PIXAL, and Seliel each followed the boy that each of them liked.
Lloyd stayed back with Harumi as Harumi opened the garage door. "Thank you, Princess," Lloyd said.
"What my parents were about to do to you, it wasn't right," Harumi said. "Nya's words on that TV were powerful. People look up to you guys and you can't let them down."
Lloyd looked at her. "Come with us."
"I wish I could, but I need to stay here. They don't know I helped you guys."
"But if they find out, you will be in danger."
"I'll be fine." She looked over at Lloyd's friend in blue who was hopping on his bike with Nya right behind him. "I suggest you watch your friend's back." Lloyd looked at who Harumi was looking at and noticed that it was Jay. "They took DNA samples from all of you and tested them. They know who his birth parents were. They'll be coming after him."
"You know?" Lloyd asked in shock.
"Of course I know what my parents did. I tend to snoop around and find out information that my parents don't want me knowing." She turned back to Lloyd. "You should also watch your back, Mr. Garmadon."
"I should've expected that one after you told me about the DNA test thing."
"Yes, you should've." They heard voices coming down the hall. "Now, you need to get going."
Lloyd nodded, grabbed one of the keys and went to the only available bike. He took one last glance at Harumi before they revved up all five bikes and took off.
After the nine teens left, Harumi heard the voices coming closer. She quickly thought of what to do. She quickly took off her cloak and tossed it into the garbage in the garage and went onto the ground to look like she had been shoved down.
"Princess!" one of the guards yelled and went to her side. "What happened?"
"They grabbed me while escaping and made me open the garage using the pin pad code. Afterwards, they shoved me down and stole the bikes."
"Do you know where they went?"
"No. I-I have no clue."
"Alert the police!" one of the guards ordered. "Search all of Ninjago for them!"
Harumi looked back to where they had gone. She hoped that they would be safe out there, but knew that it would not be easy for them with everyone looking for them.
A/N: This is the longest chapter so far! I hope you enjoyed!
