Give Us Our Daily Bread
As the dust settled and the rings became a place inhabited with buildings and some miracles from Lucifer allowed agriculture grow in Hell, Lilith and Lucifer finished the palace as time slowly passed. As Contract Day swiftly approached once more, Lilith entered the Heaven Embassy. Azrael sat at the table, a scroll in his hand. She sat across him, raising an eyebrow at the familiar scroll.
"I have been informed by a small seraphim from the future that I have signed this scroll. You are not permitted to tell me the entire story. I need to know what I need to do to help Samael. Michael has been informed that the contract appears every decade. They are scouring the heavenly Library for a copy right now." His eyes, filled with genuine love and concern for his brother made Lilith tell him what she could.
"He's not a Fallen at all. His role was bestowed to him and his sacrifice will draw out the ones that Father has seen. Remember, he is to temp the humans and to divide them from the herd so the shepherd knows his sheep from the wolves. He is the other side of the coin. The Adversary. He signed the contract that holds the balance. In three thousand years, it will be his choice to continue to sign the contract. During Contract Day, it is impossible for him to appear as a Fallen. His halo glows as brightly as ever and no matter how many times he dyes his feathers, they remain as pure as snow." Lilith was interrupted by Azrael.
"I figured after observing that he wasn't corrupted. This is concerning considering what Sera has done. Resetting creation every three hundred years, right before Adam eats the Fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Eve hasn't tried to touch it yet. Perhaps make it appear that every Contract Day, you and your trusted commanders run about the entire day to cause the Elders to think that you are guarding him and play keep away for 24 hours. Michael is aware that the scroll has the hidden knowledge that he seeks. If they are able to get their hands on it, the contract will cease and they will not let Lucifer go ever." Azrael stated. Lilith nodded, agreeing with him.
"We will do so. They will start to look everywhere for him without ceasing, won't they?"
"Yes. They will hunt for him even if they have to rip time apart to get the answers they seek. When he must go to Heaven, ensure it is not alone. Send as many of your forces up every decade and have them try to make contracts so that Michael and the others will have so much work to do. Hide him away." Azrael suddenly stood as the door slammed open on his end, Michael storming in.
"Azrael! I told you to make sure Lucifer is in the embassy, not the Mother of Monsters!" Michael was blazing with blessed flames, angered at the perceived failure.
"You will have to forgive the King of Hell, Prince of Heaven. His Majesty is under the weather at the moment and me to be the one to speak to you." Lilith remained seated, a cruel smirk on her face, making Michael set fire to the table of the Heaven Embassy. She almost laughed.
-In Heaven-
"Temprest, we will find out how to reach Lucifer to demand the truth from him." Michael stated, cutting the connection to the building in Hell. Azrael had hidden the contract while waiting for Michael to pay attention to him.
"Why were you speaking to the witch?" Michael snared at him.
"Because Lucifer was not healthy enough to. We have to work together with them for the Great Design to continue. Any luck finding the copy in the Records Department?" Azrael remained calm and unreadable as he asked, uncaring of the spearing fire. Michael deflated instantly, the fire going out as he did so.
"We've barely made a dent in the department. We've been looking for it for ten years. Uriel and Sera said he would be at his weakest on that day. We just need to learn what day and for how long." Michael sure was determined to get his answers and to punish Lucifer for the 'murder' of Samael.
"Well, I guess we should start filling out the design of the world as Sera is determined that it be completed before we allow time to continuously." Azrael simply walked out of the room, uncaring of the way Michael glanced to the empty seat in disappointment.
