27. The Text

Cillian had walked outside and typed up a text to an unregistered number in his contacts and with hesitant fingers, and hazy eyes, heart racing... he pressed sent. He regretted everything, and nothing at all. He was conflicted that he had had to involve someone who he did not have the slightly care to talking to but he had to get it done. They had already taken one too many steps into the depths of this dark path, going back now was sure to be an uncertain hell, but going forward would truly be a test of how strong and determined he and the girls were. He had dragged them into this without wanting to but he supposed that nothing would have kept Arlo home and the same went with Taro. Arlo and Taro were a force and Cillian was happy that he was doing this with them.

It might have been the late-night Chinese and or minor planning of a meet-up with unnamed persons that Cillian had contacted, but exhaustion had clearly be dashed over the teens for they found themselves passed out on their respective beds until their awoke them at 6am sharp. Their joint grumblings of disapproval were evidence that they did not wish to be awaken, but they had to wake up and get ready to leave the room. "We need to get up," Cillian said, his voice still thick from sleep as he exited the restroom, a towel swung over his shoulders, his hair still dripping onto his bare chest, his pants hanging a little low on his hips as he fumbled around in his bag for a shirt. Arlo's cheeks were flared.

"Urgh." Taro, who wasn't a morning person said as she finally rose from the bed. "I'll drive first," she said jumping off the bed to run into the bathroom. "Nice ink though Lee." She remarked, smirking towards Arlo.

Arlo sighed, trying to ignore her blushing as she sat up on the bed and took in Cillian's shirtless torso. So he was covered in tattoos, well a moderate amount that it. "Hey, handsome." He took a glimpse behind himself then chuckled softly. "Yes beautiful."

"Did you sleep?"

He chucklee then nodded, as he shook his head. "Not for long." She stood up, then made her way over to where he was and wrapped her arms around his waist. "You'll drive last then." He lifted his arm and turned around in her arms. "Arlo no-."

"Cillian, I said what I said. You cannot drive on two or three hours of sleep. Do you want us to get into an accident?" he sighed.

"No."

"Good, then it's decided." She smiled. "Perfect." She tiptoed to meet his face and he bent and took her lips in a kiss. "Thank you for keeping me safe."

"Thank you for doing the same." She smiled then went over to her bags to get a change of clothes.

When the bathroom was finally empty Arlo went ahead. She shut the door, closing in the remnants of what little heat was left over from Taro's shower. She was sure that her parents would be awake soon and most likely figuring out that they were all missing, she, Taro and Cillian... she bit her lip as she let the water wet her hair and sighed. She rolled her shoulders, rubbing at the soreness she felt that from the day before, flashes of Cillian's face in her minds eyes, remembering their date by the lake, how his eyes had stolen her heart that day and how his embrace had felt. She nearly lost her grip on reality when he kissed his, when his lips had touched her skin. He made her burn with some crazy kind of passion and gentleness that had no idea existed in the real world. She sucked in a deep breath at how his face was worried and then last night when he cried in her arms on the floor of her bedroom. She punched the wall softly, biting her bottom lip as she trembled, the fright and panic in Owen's voice still made her body shiver. She had known why she left home with him, why she dragged Taro into this and why she runaway. She was not some weak teenager who was only good for being silent and taking shit from bullies. She could be the strong partner that Cillian needed, the brave friend that Taro would always follow. She did not want to even think of what Owen was going through, but she was determined to save him even if it would put them in danger. Cillian was not a killer, and he was definitely too good to ever harm another person for no reason at all.

Arlo finished showering, brushed her teeth, dried her hair and got dresser until she realized that she hadn't taken her pants with her. She chuckled and sighed as she wrapped her towel around her waist and left the bathroom. Taro was sitting on the chair, her leg thrown over one of the arms of the chair as she checked her phone for any missing persons, namely to find her or Arlo's names.

Cillian was on his notebook laptop, but he was doing some more investigative work on Phillip Riley. He kept finding dead-ends and was becoming frustrated when he heard a sharp gasp then spun around and stood. Taro's face was filled with horror and he rushed over to her in two long strides. "Taro, what is it?"

"M-Mr. Klum... he must have filed a report after last night..." she turned the phone to face him and his eyes dimmed as his shoulders fell. The headline on an early morning updated Articles read: CILLIAN ANTHONY: EXPECTED KILLER IS ON THE RUN WITH TWO UNKNOWN ACCOMPLICES.

"Holy fuck." Cillian and Taro looked back to see Arlo standing behind them with her towel dragging on the floor and her eyes brimming with tears. "Arlo." He whispered, her watery eyes wavering as she swallowed hard.
