Chapter 40 - Who?
Chapter 40 - Who?
Zeke
"It seems like you already have your decision made then." Four says.
"Yeah. I guess I do." I reply.
I kind of trudge to my room to go and pack my things. Hopefully I can catch a train back to Dauntless in the morning.
I get on my knees and pull out my suitcase that I had brought with all of my things. I put it on the bed then unzip it. There was a dresser in the room, so I had started putting some of my clothes in that, but some I kept in my suitcase because I was too lazy to unpack the rest. I did unpack all of my things for the bathroom and put them in there. I'll have to grab those as well.
Mainly my shirts and jeans are in a drawer of the dresser. Everything else is either in the bathroom or still in my suitcase.
I start to transfer the shirts from the dresser into my suitcase, dropping them as I cross the room. Maybe it would have helped if I folded my clothes...
"AIN'T NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT!" I think in my head and start chuckling to myself.
I turn to pick up the shirts I dropped and stuff them in my suitcase. Then I do the same with my jeans, and go to the bathroom attached to the room to get my other things.
I hear the bedroom door open. Assuming that it's Four because he's the only other person in the apartment I yell, "Yo!" And start laughing.
"Yo!" He yells back mocking me.
"Are you mocking me?" I gasp like a little girl.
"Yep." He says so calmly that it makes us break out laughing.
"I was looking online and it looks like the first train that you could catch here is six tomorrow morning. Then there's another one at eight forty five tomorrow morning and then there's various ones throughout the day."
"Ugh! That's so early!" I groan.
"Zeke. We were at the Technology Room at four thirty this morning. How is six or quarter to nine early?!" He remarks laughing.
He rolls his eyes and says, "Whatever. I'm going to bed."
"Night. See ya tomorrow." I say.
Eventually I finish throwing everything in my suitcase and zip it up. Then I just lay there in bed. Who knows if I ever fall asleep from everything going on in my head.
* * *
"Keep me updated on what goes on here and I'll keep you updated on what goes on back home. Okay?" I ask.
I'm just getting ready to leave for the train. It's quarter after five in the morning. I still have to find where the train goes by here because we drove here and I don't remember from the last time I was in Erudite.
"Works for me." He replies.
"See ya in a few weeks, I guess."
"Yeah. Bye buddy! No wild parties without me!" I say fake scolding him.
"Ha ha. Good joke Zeke. Me, parties? Really?"
"That's what I thought."
"Call or text me when you can and I'll do the same for you."
"Yep." I say heading toward the door.
"Well, I've gotta go find the train stop, well whatever you'd call it considering it doesn't stop. But I've gotta go find it. See you later."
"Bye."
I walk out the door closing it behind me and let my journey begin.
Tobias
Zeke left twenty minutes ago, now I am heading off to the Technology Room for today's job:
Finding the sign of technology in that building.
I walk into the room to see that a few people from Erudite are here, but they are going nuts. They are running around the room extremely busy and look panicked. It makes me begin to worry what the heck is going on.
"What's wrong? What's happening? What are you all doing?" I ask no one in particular.
I'm not surprised when no one answers me. I walk over to someone who's frantically using a computer with a few people behind them.
"What's happening? What's wrong?" I ask the group around the computer.
"1236 has found what happened to Caleb and Cara Prior."
"What was it? Murder? Death? Bad timing?" I ask the woman.
"No, no, and no. They were kidnapped."
"Kidnapped?" I barely whisper not believing the words.
"Yes. Kidnapped." She repeats nodding her head but her eyes not moving from the computer screen.
"By who?" I ask.
I know they probably don't know by who, but you never know.
"We are trying to find another camera that wasn't covered had a different angle right now, but from what we saw from the camera that was uncovered, the people were masked. No traces of evidence were left behind though, so it was well planned. 1236 is still working on it, but this is the not only first clue, but a huge clue to what happened. Who knows if they are alive still or not though... I mean, they were kidnapped, who knows where they are or how alive they are." She says.
"I know you're probably not interested in my theories, but I'm thinking that it ties into this building outside the fence." I state.
"And that's why we have a group 36; because you're not the only one who thinks this." She says actually taking her eyes off the computer.
She has light brown hair that is pulled back into a fishtail braid with side bangs, she looks like she'd be pretty tall, but I cannot make that call concidering that she's sitting, and her eyes are a dark green, she looks like she could be in her mid thirties, and like every other Erudite, she has square glasses with a black frame. Who knows if she actually needs them or not.
"I'm Diane, by the way. Member of group 12 for ten years now." She says putting out her hand.
"Four," I say shaking her hand. "Member of group 24 for about five days now." I smile. She doesn't seem so bad like some of the Erudite here.
She chuckles in responce and turns back to the computer.
"I don't think that they missed any other cameras. Maybe it was intentional to miss that one... Has 28 found anything or any signs of anything in that building?" Diane asks.
"We found some kind of signal that could only come from some kind of technology coming from the building. These next few days we were hoping to find out what it's coming from like a laptop or computer or camera and then hack into it just to see what is really going on and if we should worry."
"That's great! We just need 28 to start on tha-"
Diane stops mid sentence when the door to the Technology Room slams open. A drunk-looking Greg tumbles into the room. All week he hasn't even bothered to show up to the room, and of course once we are getting somewhere, he shows up and he's not even sober.
I hear Diane mumble "Oh great." And I know that I'm thinking the same thing.
"Hey...um... Four! Get your a*s away from that lady! You should know better than to flirt with a nose like that Erudite! They're too smart for their own good!" He says starting to walk toward Diane and I.
"I'm going to go call for someone to get him out of here." Diane mumbles in my ear and heads toward the phone by the door.
"Hey! Where do you think you're going? He slurs. Then he turns and walks faster to follow her.
"Greg..." I warn.
He keeps trying to run after her, but can't walk right.
He gets around the one table, but Diane isn't aware of him getting closer and closer to her. I run over to try and stop Greg. I'm close to grabbing him when Diane turns around, let's out a yelp and jumps backward. I see another person look up then run to the phone now aware of what's going on in the room.
Just as Greg raises his hand to punch her, I catch up just in time, pull him backwards and hold his hands behind his back. It's like everything is almost in slow motion.
Greg struggles against my grip and keeps screaming curses at me and Diane. All Diane does is stand there and looks like she's in shock.
"Go! Get away from him!" I yell at her.
She blinks like she's trying to snap herself out of it. Then her eyes grow wide and immediately runs to the other side of the room, getting as far away from Greg as she can.
I hear the person on the phone yelling something to whoevers on the other line, then hang up the phone and go with everyone else to the other end of the room while I stand at the opposite end, holding a struggling Greg to keep him from attacking everyone. I didn't think that drinking could make someone this hostile and act so strangely. His eyes dart from one spot to another with a crazed look, but his legs never manage to give out.
It's like he's not even human at the moment.
He stops moving for a split second then turns fast and I loose my grip on his wrists. His knee connects with my groin and I hunch over in pain.
I get myself together fast because of expecting for him to attack again, but it never comes. He's just standing there looking at me with a crazed look im his eye.
How could I not have realized this earlier?!
The crazed look
His legs not giving out like they would if he was that drunk
Being hostile to only certain people.
He's in a simulation.
"Guys! He's in a sim!" I yell.
As soon as I finish my sentence, Greg charges at me.
I just need to hold him until the reinforcements that the other person called get here.
He throws a fist at my jaw, but I catch it mid throw and twist his arm behind his back. I push him on the floor to avoid getting kneed in my lower region like earlier. I hold his calves down with my knee and hold his arms in his back to keep him from punching or kicking me. I'm basically on top of him with all of my weight to try and keep him down.
He's defiantly in a sim.
I can tell he's about to get on of my grasp, and just in time the door slams open revealing probably eight people with tons of medical equipment, other people that I've been working with on 2436, and some Dauntless that came here with me.
As soon as they get over by Greg and I, Greg gets out of my grasp. He starts screaming things, but never throws a fist or foot at anyone.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! CAN'T YOU SEE HE ATTACKED ME?!" Greg screams at the top of his lungs.
"Calm down, sir. We're not going to hurt you." An Erudite woman in a blue lab coat says putting his hand on agrees shoulder.
As soon as his hand touches his shoulder, Greg turns and elbows her in the nose. The Erudite woman yelps, her hands immediately hold her nose; red seeping through her fingers. Greg defiantly broke it.
I step in and grab his one arm as tightly as possible. I don't care about cutting his circulation right now, all I care about is him not killing anyone.
I try to grab his other arm, but he's too fast for me and he turns, his fist connecting with my cheek bone. I take advantage of his hand being that close to me to take that time to grab his wrist and hold it behind his back. I turn to the side with my hip facing him to avoid his feet kicking me.
An Erudite comes over with two pairs of handcuffs and puts the one pair around Greg's ankles. Then he comes over by me and puts the last pair on his wrists.
"We'll take him from here." An Erudite man says. Him taking one arm, and another man taking Greg's other arm.
The cuffs on his feet are more like shackles, so Greg could walk with them on, but couldn't kick or knee anyone.
"HE'S GOING TO GET YOU! EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU!" Greg screams shaking out of the one Erudite's grasp.
One Erudite fumbles with a needle containing some kind of serum.
"What? Who is?" I ask.
Greg is breathing really heavily and is sweating like crazy.
The Erudite finally stops fumbling with the needle and rushes over to Greg; sinking the needle into his neck then pressing on the end. The serum is a greenish color.
"HE WILL! HE TOLD ME HIMSELF! YOU'RE ALL GOING TO BE DEAD!" Greg screams.
"Who did? Greg? Who told you this?!" I yell.
"HE DID! D--"
Greg falls to the floor, never finishing his sentence.
"It's just sleep serum. He will be awake in a few hours. Until then, we will run some tests on him and see what's going on." An Erudite says.
Two men are lifting Greg up onto a stretcher I didn't even realize was in the room. Everyone who was hiding on the other side of the room under tables and is the corner are now coming out to see what happened.
Half of the Erudite reinforcements leave when they roll Greg out on the stretcher, the other half stick around in shock to what just went on.
"Sir? Are you okay?" A Erudite asks me signaling to my cheek.
It isn't until now that I realized that my cheek bone is bleeding from where Greg punched me.
"Yeah. I'm fine."
"Hold on." He says.
He turns to his little medical bag that many of the Erudite had and pulls out a little packet. He slaps it on the table a few times causing to make cracking sounds. What is he doing?
"Here." He says handing the packet to me. Strangely, it's really cold, like it has ice or something in it.
He must realize how confused I am because he tells me, "It's a special ice pack. Put it on your cheek bone. It will help with the bruising. You should probably wash it up in a bathroom as well. Just keep it iced; it will help."
I nod, still in shock.
He zips his medical bag, picks it up, then leaves.
I just stand there holding the pack to my face in shock.
Was Greg insane for saying those things?
Part of me thinks he knew what he was saying, and it wasn't the sim talking.
If so, who's coming after us?
Who wants us all dead?
Who told him all of those things?
A/N-
Hi humans!
I finally got time to update! I was hoping to update on my half day of school yesterday, but my Grandma really wanted to go out for lunch and take my mom and I shopping. So I ended up busy.
