Party Decisions
"Damn, look how crowded it is already." Jace had parked his car on the street two houses away from Lucy's. Luckily for us no one in the neighborhood seemed to care about us teens. I sometimes wondered if people actually lived in the other houses. Maybe Lucy paid them off somehow. I was just going to mention it to Jace when I heard another voice. Magnus and Jace were glaring at each other.
"Magnus," I broke into a smile that I'm sure made me look like a clown.
Lydia grabbed my arm tightly. "You're so hot." She purred.
"Alec." He nodded his head at me before looking at Lydia. "And you are?"
"His date." Jace said with a smirk and glare.
My smile instantly disappeared as I saw the look of shock in Magnus's eyes. Magnus met my gaze with such force that I couldn't manage to look away. "Why don't you introduce your date to me?"
"This is...um...burger girl?" I blushed fiercely, "I mean um..." I gave up, even if I had remembered her name I would have forgotten it just from the intensity of Magnus's stare.
"Dick!" Lydia shoved me and sauntered away.
"Alec, I can't believe you." Jace complained as he watched Lydia disappear into the crowd.
"You're the one who set this up; not me." I shrugged while maintaining eye contact with Magnus.
"Let's go inside, Alec." Jace grabbed my arm.
"Go ahead I'll catch up." I tried to shrug him off.
"No, come on." Jace tugged harder.
"He said he'd catch up." Magnus broke the eye contact to glare at Jace. "Why don't you scurry on inside?"
"How about I tell Alec who you really are?" Jace spit out.
"What does that mean?" I asked, looking between them searching for an answer.
Jace shrugged his shoulders. "Oh, I don't. Ask him."
"Magnus?" I asked as Jace shook his head and walked away.
"It's nothing I assure you." Magnus touched my shoulder and I pulled away.
"Jace is my best friend. He doesn't say things just for the hell of it." I demanded.
"Then ask him." Magnus motioned to the party, "or you can get out of here with me... as friends of course."
I looked at Jace's retreating form then back to Magnus who was smiling with an eyebrow cocked in a challenge. I knew I should go after Jace, but I couldn't make my feet move. I looked back at Jace again and then shook my head before looking back at Magnus with a smile. "Where were you thinking of going?"
"How about a surprise?" Magnus asked.
"I'm not into surprises." I smiled wider at Magnus's surprised look because how could I not smile while looking at Magnus?
"I can change that." Magnus reached forward and I froze, afraid of what he was going to do. He winked and ran his hand over my shoulder. "There was a leaf."
"Oh, thanks." I looked down at the ground.
"Think you could be up for an adventure?" Magnus asked after a comfortable silence.
"I'm not going to another state." I teased remembering what he said about his normal adventures.
"We'll save that for another day. How about we just go for a ride?" He nodded to his motorcycle on the sidewalk half a block away.
"On that?" I cringed. "How about we just go inside?"
"Come on Alec, live a little. You'll be safe I promise." Magnus purred and I noticed just how close he was standing to me. It was closer than friends would stand. I looked around and took a small step back pretending to say hi to a girl who walked by.
"I think I'm going to go check on Jace." I finally said, lamely. Magnus frowned then his mouth made an O.
"How about we meet on the next block over?" He said with a grin.
I wanted to go but at the same time I needed to say no. I was already getting to close to slipping up as it was. I was about to say no when out of my mouth came a, "okay."
"Wonderful." Magnus took off towards his bike and I would be lying if I said that I didn't like what I saw.
"Alec, what's taking you so long?" Jace clapped me on the back and I jumped about three feet into the air.
"God, Jace, you nearly gave me a heart attack." I shoved him maybe a little too hard.
"Well, get in here. It's our turn at beer pong." Jace wrapped his arm around my shoulders. Would he still do that if he knew the truth about me?
"Can't someone else play?" I asked him looking out where Magnus had disappeared.
"No, you're the best. I never lose with you. It's not like you have anything else going on right? If you do I can get someone else. Wait, did Lydia come back?" Jace smiled.
"No." Dammit! Why didn't I say yes?
"Well, let's go." Jace dragged me towards the house.
"Jace-" I blurted.
