Late

"There you are! What the hell man? You said that you'd be here at 12:22." Jace demanded as he stomped down the stairs from his house.

"You're the one who said 12:22 and it's barely 12:30." I pointed out. I just hoped he didn't ask me where I had been. I could lie to him but I preferred not to. And how would I explain that I was with Magnus and hadn't realized that I hadn't told him where I lived after a half hour in his car, well his sister's car. That I had been hanging out with a guy who owned a motorcycle that he rode on at 2 in the morning to God only knew where. I was jealous but at the same time felt bad for him. As cool as it was it sounded lonely. I thought about the fact that his number was in my phone. I could help him with that problem.

"I'm starving!" Jace complained.

"Then stop whining and get in." I pointed out as I got in the passenger side of his car.

"You're paying." He demanded as he started his Mustang. It was something his dad and he built together. They started when we were only 11. I had helped enough that I knew if I got one of my own I could do it myself. Maybe that's what I could do. With Izzy gone I would need my own car.

"It's my turn anyway." I rolled my eyes as I kept thinking back to how Magnus thought we were a couple. "Do you think people ever think we're..." I snapped my mouth shut. Why would I ask him that? Because you want to tell him the truth. This would not be the way to do that. It's a start. I thought back.

"We're what?" He asked unaware of my internal debate.

"That we're going to the party at Lucy's tonight?" I covered up my real question.

"Of course we're going. What kind of question is that? It's the last party before senior year. You did remind your parents about our annual camping trip didn't you?" Jace asked bringing up the cover story we had come up with four years ago when we wanted to go to a party. It worked because it was the only reason that we wouldn't be at one of our houses.

"I forgot. I'll text them." I pulled out my phone and saw that I had a text. It was from Magnus I assumed because I hadn't had a contact name Unicorn before he took my phone.

Unicorn: Got my bike back if you change your mind about going for a ride.

I smiled. I couldn't help it and quickly responded.

Me: I'm good. Nice name. Want to go to that party tonight with Jace and me?

My phone pinged before I had closed the message.

Unicorn: Thanks. Does this mean we're friends?

I laughed.

Jace turned into the parking lot at the local burger stand. It was our town's crowning glory with their homemade foods from the buns to ice cream. It was the best place I had ever eaten at and they always had a line because everyone agreed.

"What is it?" Jace asked trying to take a peek at my phone. I quickly shut the screen off.

"Nothing, just a stupid meme." I said as I felt a drop of sweat run down my back. He had almost seen. Would he have thought it was anything more than me talking to the new guy? I jumped out of the car and got in line with Jace right behind me.

"What did it say?" He pressed as we waited in line. "Let me see."

"I'll send it to you." I said and held my phone so it was angled away from him.

"Dude, just show it to me. It's stupid to text it to me when I'm right here." He pointed out.

"Right." I laughed a fake laugh and quickly went into my saved images and picked one at random to show him.

"I sent you that last night." He shook his head, "but it's damn funny."

"Oh yeah," I laughed. "I forgot where I got it."

My phone pinged again.

Unicorn: Where is it?

I typed my response quickly so Jace wouldn't see.

Me: We can pick you up.

He responded immediately.

Unicorn: It's fine, just tell me when and where.

I was glad that he didn't want a ride. It would have been hard to explain especially since Jace didn't seem to like Magnus yet.

Me: At 11. 382 s 1400 w

I smiled at his response.

Unicorn: See you there Alexander.

He was the only person who called me Alexander and I liked it.

"Your parents took it well then?" Jace asked and I blinked out of the happy bubble I had been in.

"Ah, yeah." I quickly texted my mom about it and put my phone in my pocket. I knew she would say yes, they liked when I actually went out and did things opposed to when I stayed home wasting away.

"I'll take the double cheeseburger with onion rings and a peanut butter shake and this guy's paying because he's an ass." Jace ordered. I hadn't even realized that we had been moving.

The girl behind the window smiled at me while pushing up against the counter so her boobs stuck out more than they already were. She was pretty I guess, but she was barking up the wrong tree, that was for sure. "And what can I get you, sweetie?"

"I'll have a spicy chicken sandwich; hold the mayo, fries, and a peach shake." I ordered unaffected by her flirtatious smile.

"How about we put the shake on the house and you give me your number?" She offered as she clicked the buttons to put our order in. She flicked her blonde hair over her shoulder and batted her green eyes at me.

A/N Ah oh, is he going to go for it? What do you think of Magnus's name? Haha! What about him coming to the party? Is that a good thing or bad?

Coming next... Find out what happens with Lydia and Jace has some secrets but will Alec ever figure them out?
