A/N I am so sorry that I've taken so long to update but I hope this long chapter and hot little moment will help make up for it!
I looked out at where Magnus had taken off to then back at Jace before glancing back towards Magnus. I didn't have to tell Jace where I was going or with who. I could just go. Yes, I wanted to. It was time for me to do what I wanted.
"What's up with you today?" Jace asked with a worried look. "First Lydia and now you look like you're making some huge decision. It's a game of beer pong."
"Right." I laughed it off. "You know I get like this sometimes."
"Well, suck it up and come help me win." Jace wrapped his arm around my shoulder and lead me inside as I felt my stomach tense up.
Would Magnus understand? I hoped he would and if he didn't that was fair too. He deserved better than me anyway.
"Alec, are you even listening to me?" Jace was raising his eyebrows at me.
"No." I shrugged.
"I said that we're almost up."
"I thought we were playing right now."
"No, but you looked like a loser out there with that douche bag and then you were standing by yourself."
"Wait, you saw us?" I felt my heart stop. There was no way he could tell we were flirting.
"Yeah, what is it with him? Why do you keep wanting to talk to him? I told you he's not a good guy." Jace rolled his eyes. "He's going to get you in trouble."
"But how?" I said much too loudly. "You haven't fucking told me anything!"
"I shouldn't have to!" Jace stepped into my space.
"There you are." Magnus walked up completely unaware of the tension. "I got that book I was telling you about."
"What book?" I asked, confused and Jace glared at Magnus.
"The book about the guy in the castle. Remember?" Magnus cocked an eyebrow and I finally got it.
"Right. Thanks."
"So that's why you were out there." Jace smacked my chest and smiled. "Thanks Maggie, you can go."
"Jace!" I hissed.
"It's fine, Alexander. Do you mind giving us a minute?" Magnus asked.
"I don't think that's a good idea." I said. I had never seen Jace act like that.
"It's fine, Alec." Jace nodded for me to go. I rolled his eyes and did it. That was what I did; he listened and obeyed.
I tried to stay close enough to listen to them but they stepped farther away. After a couple of minutes I snuck through the kitchen to get closer to them and caught a bit of their conversation. I peeked around a drunk girl dancing with a lamp to see them.
"Then why ask? Is there something you want to say to me? I'm all ears." Magnus stepped closer to Jace. I didn't understand why they were being so hostile, but the tension was so strong I could almost taste it. When I heard the growl in Jace's throat I jumped out of my hiding spot and stepped between the two guys with my back to Magnus.
"Woah, let's take a step back." I pushed Jace a good three steps back before he stopped me.
"Get your hands off me Alec. This doesn't concern you." He tried to shove my arms away from him but I kept them on his chest.
"Explain yourself. Why is Magnus pissed? What did you say to him?" I demanded of my best friend. I had never seen him this angry without a very good reason, but as far as I could see there wasn't one.
"Yeah, cause it's my fault. Whatever Alec." He stepped back and smacked my arms away. I hissed because his nail dug into my right palm, but I didn't stop him. "I'm going to get a drink. You can ask your new friend what he did."
"Alec, I'm sorry about that. Are you okay?" Magnus asked with guilt showing clearly in his dark eyes.
"What happened?" I asked him.
"You're bleeding." He reached out to take my hand but must have noticed how still I got because he stopped.
"I'm fine. Tell me what just happened. I was right there. You barely said anything to each other."
"It's nothing. I have a first aid kit on my bike. Let's get you something for you hand." He started walking towards where I was sure his motorcycle was but I didn't want a Band-Aid. I wanted an answer. I needed to know why Jace and he hated each other. There was clearly something I didn't know. I grabbed Magnus's arm and he looked at me over his shoulder.
"Tell. Me. What. He. Said." I said in such a low voice that it even scared me.
"It was nothing. He just asked if I was here alone. Really, just forget about it." He said in a reassuring voice but I didn't believe him. That couldn't have been the only thing he said. Neither of them seemed like the kind of guy who would get that angry over something so minor. I gave up. I wasn't going to put myself in the middle of it. I had enough to stress out about without this. I dropped Magnus's arm and started to walk to the house.
"I'd rather talk about how you chose to go inside instead of follow me." He finally said.
"I'm really sorry. Jace-"
"It's okay. I'll give you that one mistake." Magnus teased me which stopped me in my tracks but I didn't turn around. "He doesn't like me."
"I know." I admitted.
"Well it's just that. He thinks I'm not worthy of you even as a friend." Magnus was right behind me now. I could feel his hot breath on my neck. "So what happens if I ask you out? Will you agree with him or will you go against your best friend?"
I glanced around and was glad to see no one was near us. "Ask me out? Why? I've already told you I'm not into that." I turned around to look at Magnus. He looked so vulnerable in the light of the moon.
"Seriously? Alec you can lie to your friends and even yourself but I can see through the bullshit." He raised an eyebrow at me and looked to his left where a girl and guy were stumbling to a car.
"You have no idea what you're talking about." I looked around nervously again. "This was a mistake; you should go."
He ran his fingers through his hair. "Come with me."
"No." I took another step away from him.
"Fine. Whatever." He threw his arms up and I watched as his arm muscles bulged under his shirt. Why was he so hot?
I saw a couple walking towards us and was about to tell him to shut up and go but instead I blurted out, "where?"
"What?" He looked back at me with clear annoyance on his face.
"Where are you going?" I hissed at him as the couple stumbled closer.
"Somewhere so we can talk without you acting like we're about to get arrested." He ran his fingers through his hair.
"Okay." I said and still had no idea why I was agreeing except that I didn't want him to make a scene outside of Lucy's house and I thought that he might.
"Just trust me won't you?" He gave me a crooked smile.
"Fine." I couldn't resist that smile. I followed him across the street and down a block to where there was a small park and playground. I glanced back at the party often to make sure no one could see us.
He walked over to a small grouping of trees and leaned back against one of them so that he was under the street lights glow. He looked like a dark angel there with his ruffled hair and midnight clothes. My jaw dropped open at his beauty. He had on a black vest that was unbuttoned with a low-cut grey long sleeved shirt underneath and a pair of black slacks. I had never been more attracted to someone than I was in that moment as he bit his lip nervously.
I stepped forward with sure feet. I knew what I wanted and in that moment I wasn't going to hold back; for once in my life I was going to take what I wanted. I grabbed his face and kissed him. He didn't move and for a split second I really thought that I had made a mistake. But then his arms came up to my waist and he pushed me back against the tree where he had just been. He nibbled on my lip and I moaned then he slid his tongue into my mouth. I wasn't sure what to do and I couldn't think so I let my hormones take control.
My tongue lashed out at his then swirled around it and I sucked. He groaned and I smiled. His hands went under my shirt and he splayed them on my sides in a way I had never been touched before. It was simple but to me it was amazing. I linked my hands behind his neck. He pulled back but only for a moment before moving down to my throat. He kissed it slowly and made his way down to my collarbone. My eyes were closed as I experienced pure bliss for the first time in my life.
A car horn blared in the distance and I pushed myself back against the tree as hard as I could as I dropped my hands from Magnus. He stepped back and smiled. We were both breathing too hard to speak, but I sure as hell could think. I couldn't believe I had done that! What had I done? I was standing under the light. Anyone could have seen us. My heart started to race for a whole other reason.
"You sure know how to surprise a guy." Magnus smiled sweetly then licked his lips.
I didn't say anything. What could I say? I had nothing. It wasn't like we could start dating or anything. Part of me though wanted just that and more. That part of me was the one trying to get me to go kiss him again; it wanted to know with he looked like under that vest and shirt. I shook my head and ran. He let me. I don't know if that made me happier or sadder honestly.
A/N The first Malec kiss! What did you think?
