'I am..star-ting to thi---nk that... you had only called me that day, so that, I.. can suffer with you.' Hannah panted, kneeing down next to me as we paused for a rest after running for an hour.
My sister had insisted that I should follow a intense fitness routine as I do, and since Hannah was there when she gave me the timetable, she somehow ended up following it as well, although Hannah being naturally skinny really did not need to go through this, but Gina said it's good to build up a high metabolism, just in case.
I smiled in respond to Hannah's question, that was part of the plan, but also because I don't want to keep any secrets from my best friends
The past weeks consist mainly of more fitness routine, beauty lessons on make up and hair (Gina had now gotten bored of actually teaching us and make us watch youtube). Also we went shopping again to get new clothes, Gina had got some clothes for me the last time we were at the mall, but apparently she didn't think it was enough.
To be honest, I am starting to see the appeal of being pretty now. People are nicer to you, guys hold doors for you, waiters give you free deserts, and it's kind of fun, being pretty.
We walked back to our houses in silence, too exhausted to speak, my lack of exercises over the past years (OK, more like life time) has caught up on me and I am unfit beyond believe. Hannah wasn't any better than I am, but jogging is the most economic way to keep fit and stay thin.
Today is the last day of summer, we had managed to stay out of everyone's radar for the past months (not that anyone bothered to find out where we were), and I am very nervous about tomorrow, I mean, what are people going to say when they see me? I will most probably be accused of being slutty.
We parted way at the park entrance to go home. As I entered the door, Gina attacked me.
'What the heck, Gina, you could have knock me into the door!' I shouted, nearly stumbled over and hit my head, Gina ignored my comment and dragged me upstairs to my room.
'Gina, what have you done?' I screamed, all the contents of my wardrobe and her wardrobe are now fling around in my room in no particular order. Gina gave me a glared.
'We have to choose the perfect outfit for you tomorrow, you can't look like your old self.' Gina said, and then made me try on outfit after outfit. Dylan came in to watch our little 'fashion show' for a while, before giving out a snort of 'women' and heading back downstairs to watch TV, college doesn't start till October for him. Lucky.
By the time Gina was finally satisfied with my ensemble it was already dark outside. We had decided on a acid-wash ripped crop denim jacket and a little floral dress with canvas wedges. She had also instructed me to keep my hair natural (IE the permed beach waves) and light make up.
I laid in bed that night, restless. I know I shouldn't care what they think or say about me, but I am still worrying over it.
The next morning I got up earlier than usual, just to see how long my 'new routine' will take me. I took a shower quickly and put my curlers on while doing my make-up, then quickly blow dry my hair. Hm... the curls came out OK, I ran my fingers through the quickly so they become loser, then spray it with hair spray. I looked at my clock, 45 minutes, not bad.
Dylan offered to drive us to school today, well, Gina forced him to really, she said I should really 'appear out of the blue', meaning no one should see me until I hit school. She has watched too many chic flicks for her own good. I keep saying that didn't I? Well, it's true.
'Good luck monkey.' Dylan laughed as he dropped me off at the school parking lot, trying to ruffle my hair. I side stepped it and glared at him, he ignored it and wave dismissively before driving away.
I noticed that many people are staring at me, I tried to resist the urge to duck and rushed into school and walk slowly with my head held high.
'Hey Anna.' a voice called out somewhere to the left, sending shivers down my spine, I turn and saw that it was Will.
'Hi Will.' I smiled nervously, my hand twisting knoghts on my bag as Will Knight detached himself from his group of friends and ran towards me.
'How was your summer?' He asked, escorting me to my locker like a gentleman. I was starting to blush, Will Knight just dumped his friends to walk me to my locker!
'It was good, how was yours?' I replied, he gave me a wolfish smile, stepping in front of me and stopping me.
'Mine was not so good, you see, I was too busy thinking about this girl that I ran into at the mall.' He said, putting his hands on my shoulders, I blushed, and blushed more. No one had ever said anything to me like that before, what am I suppose to say?
Just then the bell ringed, as cheesy as it seems, I was saved by the bell. 'I will catch you later then Anna.' Will said, running off in the opposite direction, probably to his locker, half way down the corridor he paused. 'You know what, why don't you come and sit with us at lunch?' he shouted.
I swear right then the entire corridor fell into silence, all eyes turned to look at Will and me. Gina was at the other side of the corridor whose head was nodding vigorously.
'Um...sure.' I managed to choke out the words, Will smiled brightly, waved at me before disappearing into the crowd of students rushing to homeroom.
'Oh my god, was that Will Knight who just asked you to join him at lunch?' Hannah appeared beside me out of nowhere, scaring the living daylights out of me.
'Where did you come from?' I demanded, quickly shoving the books that I need into my bag before the two of us rushed into our homeroom right before our teacher.
'I was next to your locker waiting for you the whole time.' Hannah said as we slided into the two empty seats, giggling.
'Shut up.' I said, blushing. I looked around the classroom to ignore Hannah's jokes about me and Will, and saw the same old people. Everwood isn't a very popular town for people, it's one of those town that looks like every other town you have been to, uncharacteristic and unimportant. So we don't get a lot of transfer, more like we almost never have transfer students, I think the last time it was 6 years ago.
I noticed there were a lot of people pointing at us and whispering, the evil side of me is laughing inside, knowing that they probably think that I am a new transfers.
'Hey, I am Dereck, are you new?' someone voice pulled me out of my thought and I looked around to see a guy right next to me, who had pulled his chair so that it's in the corridor, right in between me and Hannah's table. I reconsigned that he is Dereck from the basketball team.
'Hi, I am Anna.' I replied, ignoring his last question, while I rolled my eyes inside, I-am-Dereck had been in my class since junior high, and now he comes and ask me my name. Guys.
'No, she is not new.' Hannah took the liberty to reply the I-am-Dereck's question, which obviously confused him.
'Really? How come I have never seen you before?' He said, trying to sound seductive but failing rather miserably.
'That's OK, you probably just forgot.' I said, I was laughing on the inside, but didn't want to be mean, so instead I put on a nice face. However I-am-Dereck just looked even more puzzled and decided to return back to his seat.
'Morning class, welcome back.' Our homeroom teacher Mrs Bridgeman ran into the classroom, as usual she didn't even bothered to look at us, but focused her attention the her cup of coffee. I never get the addiction people have to coffee, they taste so bitter.
'So now let's see who bothered to show up.' She said flicking open the register, and started to read off the names.
'Julianna Montrose.' I heard my name and quickly shouted yes, earning startle glances from the rest of class. Hm...so this is what the heroines in the movie feels like when they had a make over and return to school. Although all the attention makes me a bit nervous, I must say it feels good to surprise people.
'No way, that can't be Julie.' 'But she just called herself Anna, maybe there's another Julianna Montrose.' 'Don't be stupid, Dylan and Gina Montrose only have one sister, even if she has a twin they can't have the same name.' 'And she is sitting next to Hannah.'
I smiled widely as I took all the comments the class are making in, Hannah sent me a wink and mouthed 'hot stuff' to me.
Despite all the commotion Mrs Bridgeman's eyes remain attached to her coffee. As usual.
'Alright class, off you go to class.' She said, before exiting quickly before any of us even got up. Classic Mrs Bridgeman, nothing can hold her attention for more than 5 minutes, or even 1 minute. Unless it's to do with her drama club.
'Come on Han, what do you have?' I asked Hannah as we head out of the classroom with our schedule for the year. Argh double Trig, you got to be kidding me.
'Art.' She said, her face fell. I frowned, what am I going to do without Hannah in my trig class? We usually help each other out, because somehow we always manage to get the part the other one don't and explain it to each other. Otherwise we would both probably fail trig a long time ago.
'We can go over it after school.' I assured Hannah, but she still looked defeated, however the warning bell for lessons to begin rang and we hurried off to our respective classes before we get into trouble.
I went into the classroom and saw that it mainly consist of Juniors who are retaking, plus a few Sophomore that I don't really know. Then I spotted Andy in a corner.
I slided into the seat next to his at the corner of the classroom, he was doodling something on his notebook, but he closed it immediately when he saw me sitting next to him.
'Hey Andy, how was your summer?' I asked, taking out my pencil case and papers in preparation for the lesson. Andy frowned at me, then I remembered that I look 'different' now.
'It's me, Julianna.' I said, then I saw his face turn from confuse to recognition to surprise and back to a frown. Does that mean he thinks that I look bad?
'Ju-Julie?'
