Chapter 4 the fairy god sister
So I have chosen a cast for the story, tell me what you guys think about it! I debated about choosing Lucy Hale as Julianna instead, and Adam Gregory as Aidan, do you like them better or this cast?
----
I snuggled into my window seat and started crying again, hugging my teddy bear close for comfort. I heard doors banging open and closed so I looked up and saw Gina walking towards me, already changed into her Pjs but her make up were still on.
'What's wrong?' She asked in her big sister voice which I hadn't heard in a while, kneeling next to me. I shook my head indicating that I didn't want to talk about it. She wouldn't understand, being beautiful and popular all her life, everyone loves Gina. Just like how everyone thinks I am ugly Julie.
She sighed and pulled me into a hug, sshing me. We stayed like this for a while before she let me go. 'So what happened?' Gina asked, I paused, debating whether or not I should tell her? I mean, my crush on Aidan must seems really silly and naïve to her, like a little girl in elementary school who read too many fairy tales.
I took a deep breath and told Gina everything. She didn't look surprised when I told her that I had a crush on Aidan, great, this probably means that everyone else knows too (well, to those who knew who I am, not many, but still). After I finished telling her what happened tonight she fell silence for a while.
'Jules, you really are not missing out much, I mean Aidan is really good looking, but apart from that, he really doesn't have anything.' she said in a soothing voice, 'And you are not ugly.' She added, pulling my glasses off. 'You just need a little work.'
I gave out a laughed at her last sentence, but since I had been crying, it ended up sounding more like a snort. I don't believe any amount of work can make me look better.
'Don't be so harsh on yourself, you can look pretty too if you dump those hideous glasses and wear contacts.' Gina said putting her hands on her hip. 'As for Aidan, you will get over him soon, there are plenty of guys out there, what about Andy? You guys seems to get on well.'
I nearly choked on my own saliva, give it to my sister to turn something simple into something complicated. If a guy say more than hi to a girl it is consider that that guy likes the girl in my sister book, so since Andy walked us to the car and I hugged him at the end, she thought something was going on.
'He was just being nice.' I said, my sadness momentarily forgotten as we get into our usual sibling bickering. After a few of our usual comebacks and insults, Gina suddenly stood up.
'You know what's the best cure for everything? Shopping.' She said, her eyes glinted with excitement. I involuntarily shifted further away, this do not sounds good. I had been shopping with my sister a few times, and let's just say I couldn't feel my feet at the end of the day.
'Dad just gave me his credit card, we can go on a little spree tomorrow, that should cheer you up!' She chimed, looking extremely pleased with herself. She went to my wardrobe and put together an outfit for me, she does that whenever we are going out together, she doesn't trust my sense of fashion.
'Do we really have to?' I asked, hoping there is a way out of this. I mean, I am the one whose feelings are hurt, not her, shouldn't we do something that I like?
'Do you still have to be called Ugly Julie?' Gina looked at me with her serious face. I flinched, and saw myself in the mirror. Maybe it's time for me to change, I mean, can I look any worst than I already am? And I can grant Gina her wish of giving me a makeover since I hit puberty (she watched way too many chic flicks for her own good).
'Fine.' I said grudgingly, god I am so going to regret this. Gina gave out a squeal of delight and gave me a big bear hug nearly choking me to death. She then ran out of the room screaming You won't regret this.
'What did you do to her?' Dylan popped his head into my room asking, I quickly whipped the tear tracks off my face.
'Nothing, but we are going shopping tomorrow.' I replied, sitting cross-legged on my bed while Dylan came in and sat down beside me.
'So what happened?' Dylan asked me, I knew he wasn't going to go to sleep tonight without asking me, and since he isn't one of those over-protective big brother, I told him.
As I finished relating the events of tonight Dylan sighed. 'Don't you listen to a word they say.' He said ruffling my hair. 'You are not ugly, or stupid, maybe just a little naïve.' He added, I shot him a glare.
'I guess that means you had just agreed for Gina to give you a makeover.' Dylan smiled, I nodded grimly. 'Well, I can't wait to see the new you haha, it's either going to be great or disastrous, and I don't mind either way!' Dylan laughed, walking out of my room.
I made a face at the door, he would love it if Gina come home tomorrow after turning me into a barbie , or even better, the cookie monster.
'OK, first we need to get you contact lenses.' Gina said excitedly, dragging in the direction of the Opticians. My dear sister had stayed up late last time creating my make over plan. She had even planned goals for me to achieve, brilliant.
I stared at the two little circle films each in a separate but linked circular case in front of me while the staff explained how to put them on. I tried to pries my eyes open with my fingers and put the lenses it, but the moment I touched my eye ball it instantly waters and closed. Dammit, this is so hard.
So there I sat, for the next hour, trying to put that sneaky little piece of thing into my eyes while my sister got bored and went off to the side texting. The assistance came back now and then to give me some advices on what's best to do and after destroy 2 pairs of contact lenses I finally managed to put both contact lenses in my eyes and not blinked them out, but the side effects are a very runny nose and irritated eyes.
'Good, now you know how to wear them, it will get easier with practice.' the assistance told me kindly, as I sniffled into my tissue. This is torture, I winced as I my fingers touched my eye ball again trying to remove that annoying lens, but Gina stopped me, saying I might as well leave them in for the day and not waste them.
After paying with our dad's credit card for my stock of contact lenses that would last me for the next 3 months Gina dragged me across the mall to the best hair stylist shop in our town.
'This is horrible, do you ever used conditioner?' my stylist said in a fake french accent, I rolled my eyes.
'I do, my hair are just naturally frizzy.' I replied indignantly, I tried hard to keep my hair under control, it just doesn't work.
'Well what about leave in condition? Anti-frizz mousse?' the stylist challenged me, I resisted the urge to roll my eyes again and shook my head, he smiled triumphantly.
'And you eyebrow? Have you ever heard of tweezers?' the stylist fumed, I looked at him like he is stupid, who does not know what a tweezers is?! He shook his head. 'Well use them, hm...at least you skin looks OK.' He studied me some more before coming to a conclusion.
'We have a lot of work to do.' He said grimly.
I was then rushed back and forth to get my hair washed, cut, blow dried, straightened, permed (after my stylist decided that straight hair look 'toneless' on me). My face pinched, tweeted etc. By the time they finish 'fixing' me, it was already 3 in the afternoon.
'Let me see.' My sister eagerly came towards me, I could see shopping bags dangling from her arms, Dad would be so mad, but Gina had him wrap around her little finger.
'Wow, you look so much better!' Gina exclaimed, I hasn't seen what I look like yet because my frigging stylist keep blocking out my view to the mirror, he seemed to be doing so intentionally too.
'Can you just move so I can see the damage you have inflict on my hair?' I said rather loudly, causing some people nearby to look at us. They stylist rolled his eyes at me and stepped aside.
I gasped, that can't be me, I don't look like that! The girl in the mirror has sleek brown hair that falls into beautiful beach waves just below her shoulder, her eyes a vivid deep ocean blue with plum lips.
'That's me?' I whispered, my stylist gave out a snort, I turned around sharply to glare at him, that made him stop. Gina on the other hand gave out a squeal of delight, rushed forward to hug me.
'I always knew you can look pretty, and I am totally right!' She squealed some more, I resisted the urge to cover my ears, I don't want to hurt her feelings after all the help she has given me. 'Wait till Dylan see this! He was so sure you would end up looking Bob the builder.'
Bob the builder? At least that would be better than cookie monster, I would have to be blue for that. I thought, Gina then promptly deposited all her bags on top of me and went to the counter to swipe Dad's credit card. She seemed to like doing that too much.
As she did so I looked through the shopping bags, hm..the usual Abercombie and Finch, Hollister, Forever 21, French Connection, OK Victoria Secret, great.
'Hey, we better get going, make over is not over.' Gina stormed back and dragged me off, I managed to grab hold of all the bags before almost tripping. But just as I caught up with Gina she stopped dead in her track, causing me to collide into her and almost fell back on my butt.
'Hey, are you OK?' someone caught hold of me before I fell and look like a fool, I muttered a word of thanks just to look up into the eyes of Will Knight.
