Chapter 5:Pass of Redhorn
Pov narrator
You were walking in the biting cold of the mountain when you noticed Frodo slip and tumble backward to you and Aragorn. "Frodo!" Aragorn called and caught the hobbit in his hands. "You alright?" You asked and leaned down to examine Frodo for any possible wounds. But you could find none. You then sensed both Aragorn and Frodo tense, and the hum of the ring filled your ears. You sighed heavily and turned aorund to see Boromir holding the ring by its chain, staring at it.
Both you and Aragorn placed your hands on the hilt of your swords. "Boromir," Aragorn said softly at first, but the steward didn't hear. "It's a strange fate that we must suffer so much for such a little thing," he trailed off, hands reaching for the ring. "For such a little thing..." you growled, loud enough to snap Boromir out of his trance. "Give the ring to Frodo," you said, your voice empty for emotion. Boromir glances at you, worried before handing Frodo the ring he took without much thought. "As you wish. I care not," the steward said and smiled a little before ruffling Frodo's hair.
Both you and Aragorn said nothing, leaving only your glares on his retreating form. You took your hand off the hilt of your sword and started to go, letting Frodo trail beside you, holding onto you for warmth. The wind soon started to get stronger, and you and Legolas walked on top of the snow. Your ears caught the sound of a familiar voice. 'Saurman,' you thought and sneered. "Legolas, do you hear it too?" You asked, your eyes scanning the landscape. "Yes..." Legolas said before he called out to the rest of the fellowship.
"There's a fell voice in the air!" Gandalf called back, his voice strained. "It's Saurman!" Just as he said that a thunderous crack sounded, and an avalanche of stones tumbled towards you. The snow buried you all. Soon enough, you emerged out from the snow and brushed it out of you. Legolas was the next one. You and he helped the rest of the fellowship. You hauled Frodo up and pressed him against your side, as for him to regain the warmth. "we must take another road!" Aragorn yelled thru the roaring wind. "no!" Gandalf said, but another thunderous crack followed, and more stones came falling. You let a wing spur form your side and took it over the fellowship. The stones bumped harmlessly off your scales, and you retreated it, and it vanished. "if we cant go over the mountain, let's go under it. We could go thru the mines of Moria," Gimli said. You glanced at t Gandalf, knowing about what lurked down in the darkness of the old dwarf realm.
"We let the ring bearer decide," he said after a long silence.
You walked along the river bank, behind Frodo. "Soon, master elf and dragon, you will be pretended the hostile of the dwarves. This is the realm of my cousin Balin. Soon we will be feasting on ripe meat from the bone. And some call this a mine! A mine!?" Gimli says. You say nothing, already knowing what will wait. "Dwarf doors are hidden when they're locked," Gimli says again and knocks his ax against the stone wall. "Yes, Master Gimli. They're invisible even if their secrets are forgotten." Gandalf answers a little long forth.
"Why doesn't that surprise me?" Legolas says, making you chuckle. Gandalf then stopped in front of something that resembled lines on the wall. "Moon runes. Shows only in starlight and moonlight," he says, and as if in the clue, the moon appears in the sky, making the scribbles on the stone-cold wall lit up. "Wow," you breathe. "It reads 'realm of Balin, Lord of Moria. Speak, friend, and enter," Gandalf reads. "What do you suppose that means?" Merry asked. But before Gandalf could answer, you did.
"That master merry is a riddle. You have to say the elvish word for friend." The whole fellowship stared at you in wonder. "What? As I said, I came from another world." You said. Frodo walked up to the door. "What's the Elvish word for friend?" You smiled. This time you let Gandalf speak. "Mellon," he said.
