..::< Donuts Make Everyone Happy - 13 >::..

Unlike the melancholic day the day before, this Tuesday morning was bright and sunny. James and I were sitting in a donut shop sharing a box of a dozen chocolate donuts. And I say sharing, but I mean arguing over.

"James. There are twelve pastries. I know math wasn't your best subject in school, but twelve is an even number. That means we can evenly split these betwix the two of us. Six and six." I explained slowly as if I were trying to bargain with a three year old.

James sat with his hand on his chin, looked at the donuts, then back at me, "Well I'm older, so I think I should get eight donuts, and you can have four." He sneered back at me with a wide smile.

Obviously this wasn't a real argument, at least not to James. He just loved getting a rise out of me. Sadly he knew the top two ways to do that; being ignorant, and taking my food. Like a true older brother.

My best friend threw his arms in the air when he noticed I wasn't budging to his 'brilliant' idea, "Fine fine Robin, agree on seven and five and I'll buy you an ice cream cone on the way home." He suggested as he took a bite out of a new donut.

I laughed and rolled my eyes, "Ding dong, why would you offer to buy more food just so you could have more donuts than me?"

This time a very chocolatey grin appeared on his face. "Becuff," He began as he swallowed the mouthful, "I love spoiling you, and I love donuts. With this deal, I get both things I want." He finished with a wink, which only pushed my laughter.

"Fine, agreed." I finally gave in. Though he had a weird way of getting what he wanted.

James triumphantly smiled and extended his hand to shake on the deal. Looking down to see his palm was covered in chocolate icing and pastry crumbs, I raised a doubtful eyebrow to my friend.

"What? It's not a sealed deal unless the two parties shake on it." He said teasingly.

I smirked and nodded in approval.

"I guess you're right," I admitted as I quickly spat into my own hand and slapped it against James' before he had a chance to pull away. I aggressively shook his hand for a solid thirty seconds before I let the poor guy go.

When his hand was free of mine, James held a regretful stare into his palm. Then he rolled his eyes to meet mine, "You're a sick person, Robin."

To prove his further, I wiped my hand off on his jeans. "But you love me, right?" I whined as his disappointed expression didn't change.

"Sadly, yes" He sighed in defeat.

Suddenly the chiming bell of the front door cause both of our heads to turn. I couldn't help but grin a little as Liam walked into the shop all decked out in his blue uniform.

"How stereotypical to see a cop in a donut shop." I called over loud enough for him to hear me.

Liam smiled and shook his head before he even looked over at me. His smiled caused my face to feel warm and I knew I had to be blushing, which made me hate myself a little. I shook the red off my cheeks before we finally met eyes and I waved him over.

Sadly I didn't shake it off fast enough for James to miss it. I turned back around to see him smirking evilly, "That must be the cop friend?" He mused.

The fact that it was so easy for James to know when I was even slightly flustered really irritated me, but that's what happens when you've grown up with someone your whole life. Can't hide a thing from them.

"Yes," I sighed, "It's the 'cop friend'. And that's exactly all he is. A friend, James." I insisted with a stern voice, though the smirk didn't leave his face.

While me and James were still darting glares at each other, I felt the cushion of the booth sink down as Liam sat by me. My stomach flipped after he'd sat down. I wasn't about to admit it out loud, but I was quite happy to see him here. Though maybe I shouldn't be.

While these two were probably my two favorite boys, them being in the same place were probably going to be nothing but trouble for me.

.:< LIAM'S POV  >:.

I stepped out of my squad car and the frigid air of the morning unpleasantly met my face. The sun was out but that didn't stop the cool breeze from intruding on the nice day. Locking my car behind me, I walked towards the donut shop that my father used to bring me to every Sunday.

The same bell chime I remembered from my childhood rang over my head as I entered the building. Quickly my nose was engulfed by the delicious smells of pastries. Once again I felt a wave of nostalgia. The small chatter of the customers was the same, the smells were the same, even the retro decor of the building hadn't changed. All of it was no different from when I last visited here years ago.

I wasn't standing there for long before suddenly I heard a familiar sarcastic sing-song voice calling to me from the back booth area.

"How stereotypical to see a cop in a donut shop."

I'd be lying if I said Robin wasn't the cause of the smile that slid onto my face. My eyes followed the direction of her voice and when we locked contact, I easily noticed the red beaming from her face. Which only made me grin wider. Her blushing didn't surprise me, but what did was when she waved me over even though she had other company with her. I assumed it was the boy she had referred to as a brother. Even though I was caught off-guard by her friendly invitation, I didn't have to think twice about making my way over to her.

On my way to sit down, I had over-heard the two's conversation and caught sound of Robin calling me a friend. It would've offended my ego, but I had noticed her cheeks once again get a little rosy when I sat next to her. That enough made me feel confident again. She acts like such a tough girl, but it seems she has a harder and harder time keeping her smiles away from me; whether they be sarcastic smirks or shy grins.

I sank into the cushion of the booth and clasped my hands together and looked over the two I made company with. Of course I sat next to Robin, and across from me sat the assumed friend/brother of hers who I hadn't been formally introduced to. Quickly I made the action to acquaintance myself first.

"Hey, I'm-" I started before I had been not-so politely cut off.

"Liam, the cop friend." The young man mocked the words of Robin. "Trust me, I know who you are." He smirked in Robin's direction, which only made her roll her eyes and turn her attention to another donut from their box.

The young man held a hand out to me over the table, "I'm James. I'd like to call myself this brat's brother. So if you ever need any inside scoop of what movies she likes, books she reads, or kind of porn she watches, I know it all."

I laughed at his humor while Robin continued to look unamused. By the way it sounded, James gave her about as much trouble and teasing as real brother would.

Taking his offer, we shook hands and shared a nod of approval to one another.

"My spit was on that hand." Robin sneered.

"Then I'll never wash it again," I teased toward her with a wink.

Even though she tried to hide it, I noticed a smile twitch at the side of her rosy lips.

"So what are you doing down here, James? Thought you still lived in Primrock?" I questioned, giving Robin a break from the poking.

James hesitated at his answer, "Call it a family emergency I suppose." He said cooly, but stern. As if he didn't want to push the topic further.

I wasn't sure what to assume had happened, but whatever it was must've been the reason I hadn't seen Robin at the Photography club the past week.

"But I'm going back this morning, so I took Robin out for breakfast before I headed home." He smiled sweetly at Robin next to me. She smiled back warmly. Man was she cute when she actually smiled.

James looked down at the watch on his wrist, "Actually, David should be coming to pick us up soon, and you look like you have somewhere to be too, officer." He said teasingly, sounding just like Robin would.

I chuckled, nearly forgetting I did have a job to get back to, and that job was chasing around goons and delinquents. When the only delinquent I wanted to spend my afternoon with was right next to me.

I began standing up from the booth, "I suppose you're right. Now you kids behave and uh, don't do drugs and stuff." I joked.

"No promises," Robin replied, winking at me.

Before I could walk away, Robin spoke out again, "Hey! Since I distracted you and am probably making you late, you can have one of these." She handed me one of her donuts, and I couldn't help but let a smile spread across my face.

I exited the donut shop with the same smile plastered on my face. Man that crazy girl made me feel a crazy type of way. I opened the door to my car and slid into the front seat. Right before I even bit into my pastry, my police radio was yelling codes and addresses at me, and it was officially time for my day to start.
