Chapter 11

A/N: Ok, just saying that I LOVED writing this part. I got to put in all of the corny, romantic, mushy things that are so hopelessly cliche, but so guiltily adored into this part. I had a BLAST writing it so it would mean the world to me if you guys VOTED. Thanks!

Christopher appeared in the back alley of my father's apartment late that morning. I was already packed and ready to go. When he rang the doorbell, my father and I were sitting silently at the dinner table, our breakfast untouched in front of us.

"Caley!" Christopher cried when I opened the door for him.

"Christopher!" I exclaimed, pulling a smile on my lips. He reached out and pulled me into a fatherly hug.

"Michael! How are you?" Christopher asked, turning his attention to my father, who had been watching the exchange between us with a sad expression.

"I'm well. And how about yourself?" he replied.

"I'm doing all right. It's just been busy at work what with all the break-ins and imposters," Christopher said. I raised my eyebrows and my father gave Christopher a look that silenced him.

"So, I promise to take good care of your daughter," he said to my father. My dad looked at me, his eyes downcast and navy.

We hadn't spoken much since the park incident. I think he finally understood that I would never forgive him for what he had done. But he didn't know that I now knew the truth about what he really did. He didn't know that I knew how he betrayed my mother and broke her heart. He didn't know that I knew how he destroyed the chances of me living a normal life because he was too blinded by his anger. He had no idea. And he never would.

"I know she's in good hands," my father said, his voice solemn. Christopher glanced between my father and I and then clapped his hands together.

"Are your bags in your room, Caley?" he asked me. I nodded. "I'll just go and send those..." he trailed off and without finishing his sentence, he walked off to my room, leaving my father and me staring at each other in silence.

"Take care of yourself, Caley," he said.

"Like you'd care even if I didn't," I replied, my voice cracking. I saw the visible pain that my words put him through, but he deserved every bit of it. I would never forgive him for what he did. Never.

Christopher came back out, dragging my medium sized suitcase and small carry-on suitcase behind him.

"Ready to go?" he asked, his voice bright and cheerful. I nodded and latched onto his free arm.

"Don't look so grim, Michael. I'll have her back in two weeks," he said.

My father forced a smile, but I knew that he wasn't upset because I was leaving him for two weeks. He was upset because he knew he had lost me forever.

"Good-bye," he said, his voice soft.

"Good-bye," I replied forcefully.

And then we were gone.

                                                             ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The sun was shining bright in Albany, where Trey's house was. When Christopher and I transported in front of the house, I saw a lone figure standing outside in front of the main entrance. As we approached, I realized it was Trey.
My heart was immediately overcome with unexpected emotion as I looked at him. He was pacing back and forth in front of the house, wrigging his hands together. He looked like he was muttering something to himself.
He was nervous.
I felt my own stomach flip-flop inside of me. Why was I feeling like this? It had been a little less than two months since I had seen Trey, but at that moment, I felt like I had been away from him for years. It seemed to me in just the past few weeks that we had not seen each other, he had changed.
His face had a different glow about it as the sun shone on him. He looked taller and a bit stronger, as well. Maybe he had been working out just as I had. But the one thing that was the same about him were his eyes. Even from the short distance that I was standing at, I could see they were the same warm mixture of green, amber, and grey that I absolutely loved.
He was still the same Trey, except he seemed a million times more appealing.
As we walked closer to where he was pacing, he stopped and looked up. I stopped as well, feeling nervous all of a sudden. He smiled brilliantly at me, making his whole face light up in joy. Beside me, Christopher chuckled.
The moment that happened next felt so surreal and unrealistic, that it could have been taken out of any cheesy romance novel or movie. But it was real and it happened.
Christopher muttered something about taking my things inside and then disappeared with my bags. I was still standing where I had been before, a few feet away from where Trey was. He was still smiling at me, just staring, and I knew I was doing the same. We both took small steps toward each other, smiles still plastered on our faces, until we were only about three feet away from each other.
Then I couldn't take it any longer and I ran the rest of the short distance to him. He laughed and held out his arms, catching me as I jumped onto him, throwing my arms around his neck. Before I could say anything, his lips crashed down on mine.
He set me down on the walkway, our lips still connected, my arms still around his neck. I felt the familiar electricity, that I now came to love, well up all around us. My stomach burst into an electrical fire that longed to stay in this moment forever. I felt my whole body ignite with an intensity so strong, it almost hurt.
After a few long moments of this, we broke away, each of us breathing heavily. He looked intensely into my eyes and then smiled.
"Hi," he said, his voice slightly louder than a whisper. I smiled back at him, laughing slightly.
"Hey," I replied. He laughed, too, and then pulled me in for another kiss. We pulled apart once more, breathless all over again.
"I have been imagining that moment since I said good-bye to you at Trinity," he told me. I laughed.
"Seriously?" I asked him. He nodded, grinning so widely that his dimple showed.
"And did it live up to expectations?" I asked, cocking an eyebrow. He chuckled and pecked my lips gently.
"It exceeded expectations," he replied. I smiled and threw my arms around him, hugging him tightly.
"You have no idea how much I've missed you," I mumbled against his chest. He chuckled and I felt the vibrations of his muscular chest underneath me.
"I think I may have a slight idea, considering I probably missed you that much and quite possibly more," he replied. I pulled away slightly.
"I highly doubt that," I said.
"Want to bet on it?" he asked.
"What does the winner get?" I asked. He smirked mischieviously.
"I can think of something," he said. I laughed and hit his chest.
"Mom's waiting inside. I think she may have missed you more than any of us combined," he said, his eyes bright.
I laughed and followed him inside the house. I was amazed once again at how incredibly beautiful and elegant it was. It was so starkly different from Elijah's grand mansion, although it was comparable in size. But in all else, exterior and colors, it was completely different. It made me feel right at home. It made me feel safe.
Trey wrapped his arm around my waist as he led me to the kitchen, where Natalia was currently making lunch.
"Guess who's here?" Trey announced as we walked in. Natalia turned and shrieked. She wiped her hands on the towel hanging from the oven and pulled me into an embrace.
"Caley! Sweetie! I've missed you so much!" she exclaimed.
She pulled away and examined me at armslength.
"My goodness! You just get more and more attractive every time I see you," she said. I laughed and felt a slight blush creep on my cheeks. "Doesn't she?" she asked Trey.
"She does," Trey agreed, brushing my hair back from my shoulder.
"I've missed you, Natalia," I told her. She smiled and kissed my forehead.
"I'm so glad you're here," she said. I grinned at her.
"Me, too," I said. She laughed.
"Well, I'll let you two catch up a bit. God knows how long you've been waiting for this day," Natalia said.
"Thanks, Mom. We'll be down for lunch," Trey said.
He grasped my hand and we both ran upstairs like giddy teenagers.
"Is Cole home?" I asked him.
"Yeah. He's in his room," he said, leading me to his younger brother's room. The door was open. Trey knocked on it and the little eight-year old looked up, brushing his silky dark brown hair from his eyes. He looked so cute.
"Caley!" he exclaimed, getting on his feet and rushing to me. He hugged my legs and I laughed, ruffling up his hair.
"Hey, cutie! How are you?" I asked, crouching down so I was eye-level with him.
"I'm good. How are you?" he asked politely.
"Better now that I'm here," I replied, tapping him on the nose. He laughed and pulled my hand.
"Want to see all the cool presents I got from England?!" he exclaimed, dragging me into his room.
I glanced at Trey, who rolled his eyes, a smile still on his face. I sat on the floor beside Cole and Trey sat on the bed behind me. As Cole showed me all of his new toys and souvenirs, Trey played with my hair, running his fingers through it and gently caressing the back of my neck.
"Did you get me anything from England?" I asked him. He nodded his head vigorously. I laughed and his enthusiasm as he rummaged through his still packed suitcase and pulled out a box. He pulled a little figurine of a princess in a light purple dress out. She had a little flag of Britain in her hand and a crown on her head. I smiled when he handed it to me.
"See? You're pretty like a princess!" he told me.
"Aww!" I cooed and pulled him into a hug.
"You should take some lessons from him, Trey," I said, looking up at him.
"Oh, please. He's got no game," Trey said, but he was smiling.
"I've got more game than you," Cole teased, sticking his tongue out at him. Trey stuck his out, too and they made faces at each other like five year olds. I laughed and pulled them apart.
"Ok, that's enough, you two. There's enough Caley to go around for the both of you," I said.
"Except not really," Trey muttered under his breath so only I heard. I blushed and smacked his knee, making his snicker.
"Thank you for the gift, Cole. I'm going to put it in my suitcase, ok? And when I get home, I'll put it in my room, right on my dresser," I told him. He grinned widely at me and I kissed his cheek.
I got up then, and followed Trey to my room. I set the ceramic figurine in my suitcase, taking care to keep it wrapped so that it wouldn't break. Then I turned to face Trey, who was sitting on my bed and smiling at me.
"What?" I asked, feeling a smile creep up onto my own lips. He shrugged.
"I'm just really happy that you're here," he said. I laughed and went up to him, sitting next to him on the bed. He reached out and brushed my hair behind my ears. His fingers trailed down to the necklace I was wearing and he smiled.
"You're still wearing it," he said, holding the stone in between his fingers. I nodded.
"As cheesy as it's going to sound, I feel like I have a piece of you with me whenever I'm wearing it," I said.
"How so?" he asked.
"Well, whenever I'm around you, I feel calm and at peace with myself. Whenever I hold the stone on the necklace, I feel the same things," I replied.
He smiled gently at me and leaned in, kissing my lips longingly. We fell back on the mattress, our lips staying connected. He leaned over me and I placed my hands on his chest, running them down to his hard abs. I broke the kiss.
"Have you been working out?" I asked him. He looked a little annoyed that I'd break the kiss to ask a question.
"Yeah. My cousin in England, the one that was around my age, had some friends that went to the gym quite a bit. I hung around them mostly, so I worked out, too," he replied, leaning in for another kiss. I smirked against his lips as he teased me playfully. Then I pulled away again.
"But you've gotten really strong," I said.
"Caley, honestly..." he muttered falling back and laying down next to me. I grinned and looked at him. "You're so obnoxious sometimes, you know that?" he said. I laughed.
"What?! Why? Because I'm not letting you kiss me?" I asked. He smirked and brought his face closer to mine.
"Exactly," he replied. I raised my eyebrows at him and sat up.
"Well, I don't mind being obnoxious, then," I said. He laughed and pulled me back down, his lips crashing onto mine.
"All right, kids. Enough of that," we heard Natalia say.
We scrambled off of each other and into sitting positions, both our faces flushed. Natalia smirked at us from the doorway.
"It's lunch time. Come on," she said. When she left, Trey and I looked at each other and then burst into laughter, falling back on the bed. I clutched at my stomach because I was laughing so hard, tears streaming down my face. I reached out and stroked Trey's cheek. His eyes were bright and full of happiness.
"I missed you," I whispered. He smiled and leaned forward, kissing my forehead.
"I know," he said. I smiled back at him and we got up. He took my hand in his and we made our way downstairs.
"We're out here!" Natalia called from the deck outside. We walked outside. Natalia was setting up plates and utensils on the decorated patio table.
"I thought we could eat outside, since it's so nice out," she told us. "Trey, do you mind setting out the utensils? I'm going to bring the food out," she said. Trey grabbed the silverware from the plate it was sitting in and began setting them. I sat down on one of the chairs and watched.
"You could help, you know," he said.
"Nah, I think I prefer watching," I replied. He rolled his eyes at me.
When he got to my plate, he deliberately reached around me so that his abs rested on my shoulder.
"Have you ever heard of a thing called personal space?" I asked him, an amused expression on my face.
"What? Is this bothering you?" he asked, wiggling his eyebrows at me. I laughed and smacked him.
"Oh! I know why you've been working out so much!" I exclaimed all of a sudden. He raised his eyebrows at me and leaned against the back of the chair next to mine.
"Oh, please. Tell me why, I beg of you," he said sarcastically.
"Because we're going to be at the beach and you would have been embarrassed if you had a flabby stomach. You're just trying to impress me," I said. He snorted.
"You've got quite the imagination there," he said, ruffling up my hair.
"Is that a blush I see?" I said, ignoring his comment and poking his cheek. He smacked my hand away and I laughed.
"Shut up, loser," he said, leaning in and kissing my lips gently. I smiled against his lips and then we pulled away before it got too intimate.
Christopher and Natalia came back out, their hands laden with food. Cole came bouncing in at their heels, a giddy expression on his face.
"Mmm, this smells delicious, Natalia," I said as she set the food down.
"She's just being nice," Trey joked. Natalia swatted his hair, making it stick up in the back. I laughed as he smoothed it down, rolling his eyes.
"You know, Caley. You should come over more often. Natalia only ever cooks good food when we have guests," Christopher said. Trey chuckled and high-fived his father over the table.
"You see what I have to deal with?" Natalia said to me.
"Must be hard living with two boys in the house," I said.
"Three," Trey corrected.
"You don't count," I said.
"Oh, right. That's because I'm a man," he said, winking.
"Actually, I was calling you a girl," I corrected.
"Then you'd be in a very interesting relationship," Trey said, smirking. Natalia smacked him again. Christopher and I laughed as he grumbled an apology.
"So, are we leaving tomorrow?" I asked Natalia. She nodded. "How are we getting there?" I asked, glancing at Cole.
"We're flying," Christopher replied.
"Cole, when are you going to grow up?" Trey asked his younger brother.
"What do you mean?" Cole asked, oblivious. Natalia gave Trey a look and he put his hands up in defense. I put a hand on his shoulder.
"Maybe you just stay quiet now," I suggested. He gave me a sheepish smile and nodded.
Later on that evening, after dinner, I was getting ready to go to bed. I put my hair up in a messy bun at the top of my head and pulled on a pair of Trey's sweatpants that I had stolen from his room.
"Are those my pants?" Trey asked, walking into my room.
"Knock much?" I replied, going into my bathroom to wash my face.
"It's all right. I'm going to see you in a bathing suit tomorrow. You don't have much to hide," he replied, following me in. I looked at him in the mirror and he smiled. I rolled my eyes at him and turned the faucet on, splashing my face with water. I washed my face with my cleanser and then rinsed it off, making sure to splash some water on Trey in the process. This made him take a handful of water and splatter it on me. Before we knew it, we were having a full blown water fight.
I shrieked as he chased me into my room, his hands dripping wet. He caught me around the waist, soaking my now exposed navel with freezing cold water. I squirmed and struggled out of his grip.
"Let go!!" I cried, fighting him off. He started tickling me and I started squirming even more.
"Apologize for that, then," he said huskily in my ear.
"I'm sorry! Sorry! Sorry!" I shouted and he let me go, chuckling. I glared at him and pulled down the hem of my tank top. "You suck," I said, going back into the bathroom and turning the water off. I came back out to him still smirking.
"You know you love me," he said.
"Right," I replied, rolling my eyes. I pulled the covers back on my bed and got into bed.
"No goodnight kiss?" he asked, sitting on the bed next to me.
"Nope. I don't feel like it," I said, pulling the covers around me.
"Wow, harsh," he said, putting his hand to his heart. I smirked.
"You should have thought twice before you attacked me with water," I said.
"Hey, I was just countering what you did," he defended.
"You could have let me off the hook," I said.
"Like that would have been any fun," he replied. He looked down at me and I looked back at him. "Ok, then. Goodnight, Caley," he said. He got up and started walking towards the door. He turned the lights off and began closing the door.
"Wait!" I cried. Even though I couldn't see him in the darkness, I knew he was smirking.
"What?" he asked, flicking the lights back on. I stuck my arms out of my blanket and beckoned for him to come over. He smirked victoriously and leaned over me, planting his lips onto mine. I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled him down closer to me.
"Lumina Non," I whispered against his lips and the lights went out. He smirked at this and deepened the kiss.
Almost instantly, a longing erupted inside of me. As our kiss grew deeper, the intensity of the electricity around us climaxed. I let out a soft moan as his hands began roaming the curves of my body.
"Trey..." I mumbled against his lips as his hands wandered under my tank top and began fiddling with the buckle of my bra.
"Too fast," I told him, pulling away. He was breathing heavily and rested his forehead against mine.
"Sorry," he said. I smiled and kissed his lips gently before pulling away again.
It honestly probably wasn't too fast for him. Trey had been with plenty of girls before me and from what Jason had told me at Trinity, he had gotten quite far with them. I was pretty sure that in the long while that we had been together, he would have expected me to give in to him already. But I wasn't ready yet. Trey was my first boyfriend and I wanted things to be just right before I agreed to make our relationship go to that level. I just wanted our first time--my first time--to be memorable.
He kissed me softly and then made to get up. I grabbed his arm, though, and held him back.
"Don't leave," I whispered.
From the light of the moon outside, I could see him smiling. He climbed back into my bed and wove his arms around my waist. I snuggled into the crook of his arm, taking in his scent and his warmth. I smiled as he planted soft kisses on the top of my head and whispered sweet nothings into my ear.
"I'm glad you're here, Caley," he said.
"Me, too," I replied, and then sleep took over.
